Southern Province becomes the 7th Province to endorse RB

Share

The MMD Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) in Southern Province have thrown their weight behind Acting President Rupiah Banda as the party candidate for the fourth coming Presidential by -election.

MMD Southern province Vice Chairman Benson Shibulobe said Mr. Banda is the right candidate for presidency because he is capable to run the affairs of the nation.

Mr. Shibulobe  said it was for this reason what Late President  Dr. Levy Mwanawasa appointed him to be his Assistant .

Speaking in an interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today , Mr. Shibulobe  has since  advised those vying for MMD presidency to withdraw and rally behind Mr. Banda.

He warned that the MMD party is headed for doom if the National Executive Committee (NEC) does not choose Mr. Banda to take over from Dr. Mwanawasa.

And speaking earlier, MMD Southern Province Secretary Emmerson Muchemba said the party in the province has resolved to settle for Acting President adding that no one would force them to rescind their decision.

Mr. Muchemba said the ruling party in the province is geared for victory and reminded the opposition against commenting on MMD internal affairs but to concentrate on their own affairs.

And  MMD Southern Province Women Affairs Vice Secretary Victoria Mwiinga urged the women not to shun the elections .

Ms. Mwiinga said there can not be meaningful development without the inclusion of women as they are vehicles to national development.

Southern province becomes the seventh province to endorse Acting President Rupiah Banda to succeed President Levy Mwanawasa .

Dr. Mwanawasa who died on August 19 in  France , Percy Military Hospital will be buried on tomorrow  at Embassy Park in Lusaka.

About 14  Heads of State are expected to attend the burial of the late Zambian leader, Dr. Mwanawasa.

  1. AND when i say Banda to take the day come november ati pa bwatombe wanya you will be on that boat until there is no more water for you to navigate.

  2. It seems RB has a lot of support from all the MMD provincial corners of Zambia. Now one wonders if the support RB is getting, is genuine and for the benefit of all Zambians. I ask myself that question as I know that some people especially ministers (though some don’t qualify to be called by that name) in MMD are afraid of loosing their jobs and looking forward to allowances in waiting.

It’s for the benefit of MMD to shield RB and utilise government resources in campaigning. Personaly I don’t know RB well and I can’t vote for him, for those who know him and have trust well and good help us by electing him to the top. All we need is a well meaning and royal to boost development.

  3. It’s sad if you are rejected by your own people unless of course they are being strategic and paving the way for a Tonga in 2011.. ???

  4. Forget about Sata please cant you feel pity for this man who is unwell. Do you want another State funeral and what will people around the globe think of us? You must be joking you chaps who think Sata can get it and remember this is 2008 and not 2006. Tides have changed over time and please fellow Zambians lets learn to be critical with issues than just making noise on this blog.

  5. it is clear that Rupiah will represent MMD at our next election, he has enough support. if you dont want rupiah, then support the opposition.
the sad thing about rupiah is that, he is too old, is a product of kuanda whom we wish to respect so much, the best is for him to resign from active politics. he has done enough for zambia

  6. #2 Are you obssessed with the word Tonga.please its disgusting that you always try the tribal game even when the point of discussion has nothing to do with tonga.MMD and Lupiya Banda has nothing to do with Tonga.Southern province has supported RB so what is your problem? You are so disgusting and someone with a very small brain.Who is mentioning bemba, nyanja, lozi or any other tribe for that matter? We should be discussing people’s capabilities to lead the nation instead of where they come from or what tribe they are

  7. RB is the man well-place in these coming elections
Magande thinks he will use the media (post) and get his vote. He must focus on people to gauge himself, because it is people who vote.
As for PF, their boat was overspeeding in the last elections, so it developed faults, which began to show when president and his MPs began to differ and quarel. This developed a fatal crack on an already loose stracture, a weakness that even Masebo can’t reduce.
HH is regional, he may not want that, but that is what is on the ground. therefore no chance.
RB will take the stage; I have not said i will vote 4 him, but that is easy to see, if you can’t see it you need help.

  8. Come 2011 a tonga will rule Magande will stand and HH unless someone comes from the blues with ideas that will impress everyone.
The situation in the MMD is similar to what happened in UPND when the president died. It is always first choice to a saving deputy to take over in your party that is if the opposite happens then there always is devisions

  9. # 11 UCHIPO you are a fool. Why are you talking about tribes? Chap any Zambian with presidential qualities can rule the country regardless of the tribe. You must be very backward still talking about tribe in this generation. Grow up chap.

  10. i think rb deserves a chance lets not get carried away by people supporting him they might be a nuisance but i believe his is own man his situation might be similar to levys and its only 3 years left we will see how he does.support rb

  11. just to educate some of our bloggers[-Zambians are spread around provinces and register to vote where they work or live.To think that all voters in southern province are tonga is fat from the truth. So the tribal small brains should know that this distribution is not merely on tribal lines even though the majority of the voters may be from that tribe. One Zambia one Nation to live for ever-Tiyende pamodzi ndimutima umozi

  12. dang this country is screwed, leadership crisis, where are the children of all these prominet politicians, is there no rupiah banda jr or arthur wina jr or sikot wina the third, or something to take over…. more than 40 years of indepenndence and smae old crooks….. hakainde its ur turn to steal

  13. it seems bootlicking is now a professional sport in Zambia. How do you support someone merely because he was appointed vice president. Dont make a follower president. We need leaders.

  14. well done 13 and please tell even other bloggers never to expose their tribal stupidity here. Lets be critical and not allow ourselves to be so cheap in our discussions and especially on issues of national importance like voting for the right person and not because he was appointed by Mwanawasa or because he is Veep and so let him be the next President. Things do not work like that and this is where we miss the point as a nation.Get the best chap whether blue, black, yellow or green and forget about the tribe here. It is not about a bemba, tonga, lozi chewa on the contrary, it is about the right candidate and with correct mind set to move zambia ahead.

  15. Ponyax,

    you seem emotionally fuelled,

in afrikan poly-tricks people seldom get elected based on what they can deliver,no!

i guess what the other forumites are trying say is looking at the realities now Rupiah clearly has an upper hand compared to the other contenders;albeit his age,UNIPISM etc

believe me people like you(and me) are very few in Zambia,

hence your threat to not exercise your francise(that’s if you’re even registered to vote) won’t alter the course of events at all,

question is how many folks in Zambia read Membe’s trash, debate issues in cyber space etc..very few

thus you(and me) are nothing but minute atomic players in this fiasco,so spare your heart the extra stress

  16. #16, if you are well able to interpret statistics, you will realise that, apart from LSK and CB where there is a significant contribution, the percentange of people coming from outside any province is very very small. This is very plain; check central statistics. It help to talk when you have much information.
So the regional factor will be a very dangerous issue to ignore. It is very sad for politicians who share your view.
#17, there is no need to look for children of prominent politicians.
Zambia is not a monarchy. we simply need to look for capable Zambias

  17. Let democracy lead the way.Whatever tribe a capable leader is coming from should deserve a chance to rule the country.Zambia is for zambians whatever the tribe we should be ready to accept who ever is chosen. All tribes in zambia are equall. All we need is someone who is capable and has the qualities of a president

  18. Most Zambians lack education as evidenced by tribal views which keep on reappearing on LT.Look at Uchupo what level of education do you think he is

  19. Rupiah is not being made president of the country that will be left to the people to decide once elections start as a concerned Zambia i wouldnt like former parties ie UNIP to be lost in Oblivion the minute they are not in power. Everytime we ask for change there is mashrooming of political parties it is simple with several provinces calling for RB to stand let it be the party might still be a force after the election should they loose. but should the wishes of its members be ignored there will be small parties formed same when LPM was hand picked PF was born. Should MMD become another UNIP because of everyone wanting to be president then we are not learning from ours past.

  20. The day Rupiah is nominated, we might as well go back and sleep and pray that he has a stroke and dies because that will be a wasted 3 years, but I forget; this is zambia where even Minibus conductors are allowed to rule, who will be next Austin Chewe, they call this casualisation of the Presidency. I wish speaking good english was equivalent to being a good leader.

  21. #23, you see; when a person is sick it does not help to say i am very fine. It pays to acknowledge that you are sick and need a doctor. that way you will receive help.
It is important to note and acknowledge that HH’s party is regionally inclined. This is not to say that this is what HH wants or desires, or indeed it is not to say that this is what zambians want, NO. It simply means that we acknowledge the problem and beware of its effects on our democratic process. The earlier our politicians and all zambians realised this the better for them to re-engineer their approach to politics and create a better democratic zambia. It is sad to very sick and you are not aware.

  22. May GOD GIVE US LEADERS WITH TRUE AND GENUINE SERVANT HEART:WHY CAN´T OUR ZAMBIAN POLITICIAN EMULATE MADIBA(MANDELA)
OVER 40 YEARS AFTER INDEPENDANCE,LOOK AT ZAMBIA AND OUR POLITICIANS VERY SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS:THE ONLY THING THESE CORRUPT AND POWER HUNGRY LEADERS LEARN FROM HISTORY IS NOTHING.

  23. #27, I think you dont realise that you are sick yourself. All i have said is we need capable leaders chosen for their know how and you call me sick, what is wrong with what i have said?I did not mention any politician because at the end of the day it doesnt matter who i mention as i am not the only voter. At the end of the day its voters who decide.I am sure you are sick yourself. If you dont like HH its your choice and you are free to follow what you choose but dont choose for others too as that wont be democracy

  24. #19, I wish we had 10,000,000 of your type!! In other words every Zambia was thinking like you, this is when variety is the spice of life is just absolute nonsense, homogeneity actually is bliss.

  25. #13 and #24
You see my friends the most rich people in the world are not as educated as you think some just have a break through idea and lebarate themselves some choose to save others with there intelligence. When i suggest that a tonga will rule basically there are 2 able candidates who will be there come 2011 if it doenst happen for them this time round and they are both Tonga and thats a fact. And trust me you do not have to be educated to express an opinion but you can be dawm enough not to understand the context in which the comment is intended.I HOPE YOUR EDUCATION GETS YOU SOMEWHERE #13 & #24

  26. #29, Have you read through my slot on #27?
I you understood what I said, you would not have said what you have said. The only comment i will have is that Pls read #27 again. The example gave has nothing to do with you as an individual, it is to do with Zambia as a nation.
If you read it through again and you will maintain your comments against me, i will be very shocked.

  27. Advice
I honestly have to say it is one of the first times that i have been on this blog and find someone commenting on serious issues that actually make sense and not just talk to pick up a fight or desrespect others keep it up with people like you around we might have serious people joing these discussion and correcting each other when we missunderstand a posting.

  28. It is very clear that RB is the man behind the wheel right now and stands in a good position to scoop the mmd top job and everyone of thes dogs from the provinces are yapping coz they want to b noticed and hopefuly have their jobs spared.

  29. Unfortnnately Rupia has not declared anything. Stop the speculation. It pays to be quiet and RB is quiet. RB is a proffessional Deplomat. So he is enjoying these speculations.

  30. 29 and 32 come on guys lets allow the follow of the debates than engaging yourselves in the very things that we are condemning here.

  31. Uchipo,
    Thanks for that encouragement.
Just like you, i believe we are here to share ideas and learn from one another.
That, i think, is the spirit behind this blog.

  32. #32 I am sorry to have misunderstood you. Please do forgive me, I thought you meant me in ‘It pays to acknowledge that you are sick and need a doctor. that way you will receive help’ i thought the ‘you’ in this sentence was refering to me.Hope you will forgive me

  33. Only Tongas are honest enough to keep the resourses of Zambia jerously. It can be seen from the results of Magande, LPM etc. Bembas are thiefs just like easterners. westerners & n/westerners are not educated enough and copperbelt fellows ( lambas ) are jokers. Think zambians.

  34. #25 thanks for your comment but i would respect your points more if you named individuals rather than the tribes they come from.Yes they may be tonga but peple already may know that instead of you mentioning it.It seemed to me the emphasis in your comment had mre to do with tribe than anything else.If i offended you in my comment i do apologise

  35. Those from southern province who have indosed RB are fools. This is the only time we have to take over zambia as tongas besides we are the only indigenours zambians and so why can`t we rule?

  36. I have also the sense that RB might appear to be quite but underground there could be Hurricane Gustav moving at a very ferrocious speed.Remember the third term saga.Lets be careful with the turn of support suddenly emanating from the so called supporters in the provinces and this is what makes me dumbfounded as a Zambian. We never learn and we are always falling prey to the same tactical approaches employed by our politicins.Maybe it is lack of education with great majority of our people and this is working as an advantage to the politicians.

  37. #44
Can you not come up with your own name you want me to change my name i wont if i wanted to post anything nasty i could change my name but i am not like that so stop wasting your time

  38. #44 please refrain from using tribal comments on this blog..Please see #46.Its unfair to generalise as there are men and women of dignity and honour in every tribe all over the world

  39. Please 37 do not hide in making people believe that you are from Southern and we are abashing such type of thinking here and you keep on bringing it back. What is your problem? Be critical here and stop embarrassing yourself.

  40. #43, thanks for checking through.
And, thanks getting back, that is obviously commendable.
In fact, I knew you would see my view, and more over this is a sharing/learning platform. In the process we can all make mistakes, but it takes only wise and objective people to acknowledge a mistake.
I salute you 100%. I too am sorry, if i did not communicating it very clear.

  41. Lets watch RB carefully coz the way he has become popular in MMD over night its a shock. Katele talked of seriours coruption within MMD and if this is what has given RB support then the same techniques will be brought into the govt. Lets watch this booming popularlity carefully.

  42. no more comments from me tonight coz someone out there is playing double stands correct me if am wrong but its ponyax. i will follow comments and reserve mine for another day

  43. #54,
according to the interview i watched, Katele seemed not to point to RB but someone else. Those whatched the clip may agree with me.
In any case you quotion is great, because we are all supposed to be watching over our leaders and their governance.

  44. MWANAWASA APPOITED R B SO ……….VIVA BANDA.THE MAN IS DOWN TO EARTH,WE ARE BEHIND YOU.I KNOW GOD HAS ANSWERED OUR PRAYERS.

  45. # 6. Zambian you are a fool, even you tommorow can die. no one holds life in his/ her hands. therefore the death of mwanawasa should a turn point to everyone. death is no a respector of personality. today its me tommorow its you.

death waits at the door of every person once they are born. we just live by the grace of God. lets us therefore acknoladge God in all what we do and say.

    God bless you all.

  46. UCHIPO..please my dear friend I think the comments you made on number 44 are insensitive, void of truth and unjustifield.I think the issues of tribe should not take centre stage on this forum because we are talking of national building and we need a high calibre of leadership regardless of tribe.we all need a prosperous Zambia that my children and yours will be very proud of one day.lets sow seeds of unity based on truth, honesty and high moral values but not discord.

  47. RB is not the right candidate for republican presidency. He is ok as MMD presidentas the movement has no leader at the moment. The support for RB is from MMD job seekers only and not the general Zambian population.RB is UNIP and obviously we do not want UNIP back in Government.

  48. MMD a batch of thieves scared to loose their jobs.
RB has got no idea what is going on in the country.
RB should go back and continue supporting chimparamba great eagles FC.
If Zambian people will vote for him then you must as well vote for NEVER whose got a mind of a five year old.
Some Zambian people are like pumpkins!!

  49. Yes i can remember how the drunk Sata once caused confusion on a London bound flight just after being appointed Minister Without Portfolio! Presidential material?

  50. I personally wouldn’t endorse RB. Anyhow who I am? Let the majority decide. If he’ll floated a presidential candidate, I’ll have no option but to vote for the opposition.

  51. Who is RB?
    • Born on 19 February 1937a s Rupiah Bwezani Banda in Zimbabwe where his parents migrated to
    • Holder of BA in Economics from Lund University in Sweden
    • Also studied briefly in Ethiopia
    • Re-married after his wife died. His new wife is Thandiwe.
    Key positions Banda in government:
    . Vice President
    • Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mines
    • Senior District Governor-Lusaka
    • Member of Parliament for Munali Constituency in Lusaka
    • Ambassador to Egypt at the age of 27 years
    • Ambassador to the United States (Washington)
    • Zambia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (New York)
    • Chief Executive Officer – Rural Development Corporation

  52. some pipo are saying HH is a suitable candidate because he’s quite, he doesnt talk too much like other politicians. As a politician you are suppose to talk sell yourself, keeping quite wont take you anywhere. Tatulefwaya chi president ichfufuta.

  53. RB does not deserve to contest elections for MMD Party President, he should have declared interest when he was asked to stand in for late president. He has sent emissaries to all provinces to campaign for him while people were mourning! Declaration made by provincial party leaders should be nullified. Let democracy triumph!
Therefore leave him out of elections or risk losing elections. He cannot hijack a country like that. This is corruption of the worst kind.

  54. seems banda had some kind of training from the late LPM. give him a chance to prove himself. This is not the time for sata who will strain relations with china. mind you china is now a big economy that even the USA is borrowing from it. be careful with sata and his mission. its not time for playing games.

  55. No 47 you want an answer why you tongas can’t rule? It’s bcoz you are stupid, so full of youselves, and so backwards you can’t see beyond southern province. How many times are pipo going to tell you that it is not about the tribe? We are talking about the nation, wake up fool.

  56. Lusaka times is supporting Banda anyway, which is not helping the independence of the press. They dont report news which is in favour of other candidates. Just analyse their headlines and those from other papers. They are clearly advancing Bandas cause and not as independent as i thoght they were.

  57. Ponyax and Uchipo you need to get lives and keep yourselves busy. You seem to be so bored that your only form of entertainment is arguing and posting rubbish on this forum.

It’s unnecessary that you guys should be posting trash back and forth instead of being constructive.Grow up and start making sense. I love you both. Just a word of advice from your concerned sister.

  58. Ba RB what credentials does he have? Ba pompwe mu MMD are too many thats why leadership crisis making RB look like the option.

  59. Ati rupiah Banda is a shameless judas who has betrayed levy imwe sure what has become of the post? And I thought DDay is Friday for the MMD are they working for mmd anyway let’s wait and see because after this if rb goes thru we shall see another party called ULP or something along those lines

  60. #73 Kabusha
Thanx for that I have just realized that just by my name people think am tonga so they want to start a tribal war so careful am ok with it I just feel bad that there are people out there turning the forum into a personl ground to insult other peoples intelligence

  61. #72 ONE ZAMBIA….yes i agree with you that LT is supporting RB.If you read their articles they are more inclined to supporting RB.They are not giving us the other side of the story. Are you also looking for positions in govt?LT please cover stories of those opposing RB too.Be objective and give us divergent views. Please dont forget that many ZAMBIANS are not well informed about these so called presidential candidiates and we rely on the mass media to inform us. Therefor you must be as objective as possible. Please tell us what exactly is on the ground so that we can make an informed decision.
    “ONE ZAMBIA, ONE NATION”

  62. All these monkeys wailing from the provinces are not even members of the NEC who will decide on who votes, therefore, Banda’s so called support is superficial and plainly not just there. Banda is just a trustee of the party, he has no legs whatsoever in the NEC to be chaired by Mabenga with Katele as secretary and as yet undeclared candidate. The MMD is hearded for serious split and this could as well mark the demise of Zambia as a unitary state. Look at the East, how can all ministers, MPs and Party officials from there all back one Banda, this sounds like brainless ‘Umodzi Kumhawa’ to me! Its clear that when the MMD sinks, fresh MP polls are due 2009, period.

  63. RB IS GETTING SUPPORT FROM MMD IN THE VARIOUS PROVINCES PARTLY BECAUSE IT IS A BACKLASH AGAINST MAUREEN MWANAWASA AND HER MEDDLING TRYING TO PUSH MAGANDE DOWN EVERYONE’S THROAT INSTEAD OF MOURNING HER HUSBAND AND WAITING UNTIL HE’S BURIED! LOOKS LIKE THE RACE WILL BE BETWEEN RB (MMD), SATA (PF), HH (UPND)….

  64. Apparently Thandiwe, RB’s young wife (old enough to be his daughter and/or granddaughter !) is very keen and looking forward to moving into State House and is not at all happy with Maureen throwing spanners in the works by supporting Magande. And there is another woman – an old and continuing mistress of RBs & who is married !! – who is waiting for her man to be made Presido of Zambia… this man will bring shame to the Presidency ! Anyway, he won’t be the first one I suppose after the Chiluba-Regina-Vera-McTribouy saga

  65. This is sad for RB to ignore his own principles. He basically is a mare nomitaed MP and all those supporting him are either nominated Mps (eg Daniel Munkombwe behind every decision in SP)or not favorites to the late. If he is bold enough, he should withdraw from the race and we will respect him for that (Madiba is an example). We need a leader who will not be manipulated by people who are after personal gains than the country at heart. We deserve good leadership and never the likes of RB. I would rather KK lead than RB because he (RB) has nothing to offer but just to be manipulated. Looking at it again, MMD is actually leading to the achives should they float RB. MMD grow!!!

  66. This is pure propaganda ! Are you sure thats what the rest of the electorate are saying ? Wait for the day we shall cast votes. Its time for old folks to just become spectators/advisors……….

  67. Ukwalola umweela, ekotwalolo! stupid people in MMD they are so scared of opposing each other. Already bootlicking has started!

  68. It doesn’t mean that if one person in Southern Province like him means all the province has endorsed him, no!! He is too old to be a president and he is still holding UNIP card. We need young people with new ideas.

  69. WHY ARE PLUNDERERS BEHIND BANDA AND CHITI BWALYA.
WHY PLUNDERERS DONT WANT A MAGANDE OR HH.
HH FOR PRESIDENT SATA FOR VICE.JANZA KUMBELE.

  70. Iam I the only one to notice that LT is pro Rupiah?
Please lets have a good leader like the late.
May the NEC vote wisely back home

  71. PEACE COMES WHEN A TONGA AND BEMBA WORK TOGETHER.
HH CAN WIN IF SATA BACKS HIMM. SATA IS TOO OLD AND A RECYCLED POLITICIAN I THINK HE CAN REALY HELP HH AND THE TWO CAN THEN END TRIBALISM IN ZAMBIA.ONLY THESE TWO CAN UNITE ZAMBIA AT THE MOMENT.
HH FOR PRESIDENT SATA FOR VICE IS A SURE WINNING COMBINATION.
    ONE ZAMBIA,ONE NATION.
PLUNDERERS HAVE DESERTED SATA THEY ARE NOW BACKING CHITI BWALYA.WATCH OUT ZAMBIANS.

  72. These are politics pipo, credentials and all are breifly left at the doorstep. As a political party aiming to win , you need someone you can easily sell to the ordinary pipo. I love PNM and i respect his total commitment to duty, but he is just not marketable, this is the same man who was denied by his OWN PIPO wen he wanted to stand there.LPM(mhsrip) had great ideas about who should succeed him ,but God had his own plans for him and so at the moment it can only be RB or MCS….With sata all he needs is to be given enough rope to hang himself,he is one potential leader who is capable of destroying himself without outside intervention. The old man LOVES POWER to the bone.PIPO BE WARNED!

  73. In a democracy..people’s wishes are respected. It it very clear that the majority of MMD and some Zambians prefer RB.

And while we respect the views of ba Post and Magande etc, the majority views will prevail.

Post-Friday when MMD chooses it candidates (RB from the look of things), every-ones (Post and Magande) must get behind the consesus to field RB. And this is democracy.

Magande, Nevers, Sondashi & the Post must never feel like losers. Actually Magande must start making a strong case for his nomination in 2011.

I suppose RB will still be considered as Care-taker Presido should he win the November Polls. He just need to sustain the current economic gains.

  74. What care taker presedo . Once the man is sorn in its done RB will be in power for the nest 8 years ..forget the 2011 …Zambians wake up .look back at your history then ask youself how the future will pan out. Once RB feels the power i mean true power not as VPEE but presdo then the NEC will wake up and smell the coffee only it would be a day too late RB will make his own cabinet rest asured he will he will appoint his own poeple ovcer sea’s ..this has been done all the time a new man takes control of the tourch sooner or later .
The same people in the NEC will wish they never heard of RB becaouse he will be untouchable. plain and simple..as VPEE he had to be humble .

  75. Where is Gen. Miyanda? Can you shake yourself and do what you were born to do!!! MMD/UNIP, PF/UPND? Come General wake up it’s about time. MMD/UNIP: RB is still and will always be UNIP- a wolf in sheep’s clothing!!!
PF/UPND: This courtship isn’t healthy to nation at all. in fact not needed. Why? Sata is addicted to crowds- Nakumalilo konse he has to be there.
HH is power hungry! What a shame!!!A few months before the demise of LPM, HH talks merger with PF, but alas only days into the national mourning, HH manifests his hunger and will not stop at anything to satisfy hunger. Former RAMCOZ workers have still not have recovered from this man’s selfishness.
    Gen. Miyanda please wake up!!!

  76. But as President he will be giving out the candy to those he knows will take care of himm in the line of fire ..this one some one needs to gets the rights for a movie because the show is about to begin.
You must realize as an apointee RB realy had no big say in the power halls of the true MMD because he was an outsider just an appointed person ….NOW YOU WILL SEE THE REAL RUPIA BANDA…watch.

  77. 71 in London. You must be a fool too yourself to think the way you are thinking.Do not make blanket statements. If kaunda, kabwe, Katele, Chungu, Musonda, Chiluba and others are plunderers you do not wakeup and say Bembas and Lundas of Luapula are thieves but it is these individuals in their own capacities as plundrers or whatever they are called. We still have brilliant guys like Mutati, Chisanga and others and so is the case here where you talk about tongas, please just single out those you feel are what you think and not attacking the whole province on the basis of your small analysis from a small sample of few individuals.

  78. Forgive us we are as equaly corrupt as those we condem and point our dirty finger at.

We want a person who can protect us and our interests eg Zambian Airways, Plunder Cases (we are also plundering via our HIGH LEGAL FEES from as “MNB Legal practioners), and some other deals which we are hidden under.

Ifwe ba POST tukondema balya abatuchinga.

So Magange is our choice and that is why we have descided to BE HIGHLY UNETHICAL by openly and shamelessly and without fear to OPENLY campaign for MAGANDE.

  79. I salute you # 100. it is indeed time to scruitinise plunderers as individuals rather than thinking on tribal lines. Rb will have to please plunderers at the expense of economic development. Hence need for a leader who goes to plot one with clean people.

  80. I don’t like the way Mmembe & his Post are writing off RB by portraying him as a Judas Iscariot! Just because Mwanawasa preferred Magande as his successor, does’nt mean anyone else vying for the presidency should be viewed as evil? C’mon, we are not a monarchy! even if Mwanawasa was alive today, Magande would have still faced the convention before 2011. So why the fuss? let them go for a vote & NEC will pick whoever they think is best to represent them in the bye election, be it Kavindele, Banda, Magande, Mungomba or even Sondashi!

  81. Fred Mmembe sits on the board of Zambian Airways (owned by the Nchito brothers). Magande has been good to them by stating that GRZ will use their airline on all official trips, provided it’s a route they service. This protectionist policy is the reason the young chap Fred is campaigning so hard & insulting RB for no good reason! Apparently, Zambian Airways have been hit by the recent rise in oil prices & their very survival depends on friendly Govt policies to help them cushion their financial woes (for which they did not hedge appropriately, I might add!). The Post has long been a credible publication but their recent behaviour makes me think otherwise.

  82. # 100 (Zambian),you chaps are just shameless thieves and tribalists. The sooner you accept to cleance yourself as a people against theft and the evil BEMBA tribalism, the better for you people.Thats a fact, the truth hates!!

  83. I beleive MMD can carry the day in the forthcoming by-elections but if only they get their act together. Both RB & Magande could be good choices perhaps even Mungomba (highly credible guy though not well known). Magande should just sit down with RB & see how best they can pull it off together. A cat fight is the last thing they need & will be a sure way to lose to Cycle Mata (God save our souls…!)

  84. #99 Today’s Editorial of the Post leaves much to be desired. Insults on poor, old RB who has been called names “disloyal, greedy, ungrateful, lunatic etc.” I don’t really support RB but I think the Post has lost its objectivity out of desperation to see their ally (Magande)in State House. They claim RB was suppose to remain loyal to LPM (RIP) and let Magande takeover. The irony is that they are now claiming that “loyalty is better than the law”. Wasn’t it just yester year that the Post supported LPM in being disloyal to Chiluba by letting the law take its course. What has changed? The Post should campaign on issues and not insults!

  85. So the Post today is viewed as biased just because they have stopped writing about your preferred candidates. What a shame to the few who think that way.I thought the Post has always been constant and to the point.

  86. Bembas can do anything for power, mind you they’ve killed & corrupted people for power. Its written all over the wall for all to see.

  87. #92 Good idea; especially that the political math of simple majority mostly favours the ruling party when the opposition is divided. But does Sata think beyond himself?

  88. #108 Can you prove the Post’s objectivity from this weeks editions? even just today we are putting to rest Mwanawasa and there is no story related to RB but the editorial is focusing on RB? how? why?

  89. #71 Dont fall into the tribal wars as well. You can mention individuals and not tribes please.Jopin us in educating the others that its not tribe but individual brains that we need to pave the way for our country’s development

  90. #100 i salute you.If this blog was left to people like you we would go far as a nation. Some small backward brains are hijacking this blog and only disturb the sharing of good meaningful ideas by bringing in tribal sentiments

  91. # 79,you have hit the nail on the head, very intelligent observation.indeed this massive support for RB is a backlash.Maureen over dramitised things, chasing ba Sata then endorsing magande,a man rejected by his own people once again.Im not tonga but i salute these people, they are very objective and democratic. Anyone would have thought that they would have naturally endorsed Magande, bafwile balimwishiba bwino uyu umuntu.

  92. #107 Disappointed, you’ve hit the nail on the head (thumbs up from me). Your analogy shows your sharp intellect – loyalty over rule of law? If The Post were ethical & consistent, then rule of law would be to let NEC vote for their choice regardless of who LPM ‘preferred’. But Mmembe is intoxicated with his communist ideology (always quoting Che Guevara, pls!!!), & believes that rule of law should apply to FJT while loyalty should prevail for Peter Magande!!!

  93. It would appear to me that RB is headed for adoption on MMD ticket. Isn’t there a clause on age for the president in the constitution. If there isn’t, then we must propose an age clause in the next constitution. I proporse maximum age of 60 years for candidates. I will appreciate your views

  94. 111. You can go and prove your point to their offices if you are highly disappointed. But the truth still remains that the Post have been writing that way to anyone without fear or favour and i still reiterate my earlier statement that it is not well for you because your candidate is analysed not according to your taste. If it were someone else you should have been praising the Post by now.Be objective too and use correct lenses to see things clearly.

  95. The post has be come a disgrace. At a time like this, focus should have been on LPM burial. But it seems they planned to hit old RB when it hurt him most and hence this timing. I hate such dirty tacts.

  96. May the soul of the Late President Rest in Peace. Now that u are gone, abashala ni ba ngwele and hence this leadership vacuum in Zambia. Now I know why FTJ the political manipulater hand picked Levy. May God deliver Zambia

  97. Iwe Solwezian, Politics is all about timing and numbers. I dont care if you call my post a disglace. Atleast my kids, staff and dogs wont call me a disglace after i amass all that money when Mangange wins!! Palis here i come… ye ye

  98. After MMD’s convention meeting on friday, they will nomore be Magande,Moreen,Sata,HH.After the elections Banda Rupiah sworn in,the post newspaper will stop selling to public.Make my words.End.

  99. Am uncomfortable about other options other than RB.eg. the Post’s very clear interest in smearing him.Why they didn’t do it when Levy was living? The editorial today calls him a traitor.Such cheap politicking it doesn’t convince me.It’s not an objective assessment of his credentials.Or is objectivity too much to ask from the Post? The consensus of provincial voices seems more convincing for me than attack editorials and consistent overt support for a particular candidate judging by the past headlines in the Post.I smell a rat, don’t you.Am not in the country to benefit from our usual dining table, office lounge and church yard political discussions.Miss it.Will be back to in time to vote.

  100. Uchipo mwandi dont take it personal, U have the right to give opinion and if anyone thinks its pointless then they shud not pay any mind to eat. when u start humiliating each other here you are ruining one zambia one nation. sulako mwandi

  101. I was until today a supporter of Magande but the reasons forwarded for his candidature have arisen a wound in my heart, the way these Tonga chaps treated Saki. Then, it was also that Mazoka annointed HH so all Tongas brought all their weapons, runyoka, mabelo, mosoya, chibwantu etc to block Saki and annoint HH. Today, they want to use the same trick that Levy annointed Magande so the giant frog must be supported! Levy was not god so his wish cannot be treated like divine word, never. I herewith declare my support for Ligande withdrawn, Tongas can go to hell and marry the devil, all of them!

  102. Ndate Kamunyonga!!! Try to be very fair as you attack Tongas in favour of Rupiah Banda. When you look at how the support for Banda started, one knows clearly that it was all the MMD MPs from the Eastern Province endorsing Rupiah Banda for president. But because these are not Tongas there is nothing tribal about it. This is why it had to spread like bush fire through out the Country. But the truth of the matteris that the MMD constitution does not allow Banda to stand for president. For one to be eligible he must have been an MMD member for atleast 3 years. Banda (a UNIPIST before this) was appointed as Vice President in October, 2006. So he is less than 3 yrs to make him eligible.

  103. Somebody please fill me in: What or whose agenda is Fred Meembe’s Post newspaper attempting to push here? It seems they will stop at nothing in pushing Maureen’s claim of Magande as the anointed successor to her husband. I may have missed something here: Has the MMD invented a new way of ascending to the Presidency of both their party as well as the Republic? Please educate me how the Post and the former first lady think by merely their saying so the people of Zambia will vote Mr. Magande their next president?

  104. Im no fan of Rupiah either, but Is there a deocratic process of electing party and republican presidents – under the constitution, such as it is?

  105. Read #132 as “Im no fan of Rupiah either, but isn’t there a democratic process of electing party and republican presidents – under the constitution, such as it is?”

  106. No 128. You are indeed foolish and stupid to say the least in the manner you analyse issues. You must have been at a community school and not from a normal school that we have gone through ourselves. I cannot believe that Zambia still has such type of characters who are hellbent in demonising others like that. Please lets be objective with our comments and if we have nothing to say it pays just to go and sleep and you will lose nothing.

  107. I will be back after the National mourning period of 21 days.

Hint: The CIRCUS CONTINUES, Ng’andu Magande, Maureen Mwanawasa, and others for Magande as MMD candidate will let the ball go to Rupiah Banda if MMD NEC fails to uphold the MMD constitution. This will allow HH to take over GRZ in the next 2 months and some days. Watch the SPACE.

The thing is that PRIDE willbreak the MMD to pieces.

  108. have we honestly run out of able bodied zambians to lead us? weve reached a point where all we can do is recycle politicians. i have read alot of intelligent comments from many of you.but let me ask if i may, what good does it do us to blog our frustrations and not prepare ourselves to act on our ideas?
zambians, we are very hard working , intelligent people, please, lets not loose this to our current out dated politicians. we are our future leaders.
i dont mean to direspect anyone who feels strongly about any of the current candidates, im just expressing my humble opinion

  109. I will not embarrass Government through mis-use of Government Resources

Lusaka, Wednesday, 9th July 2003. Finance & National Planning Minister Ng’andu Magande has called on Senior Management Staff in his Ministry to put Zambia first and be impartial in discharging their functions especially now that the country very much requires reaching the HIPC completion point by December this year.

Speaking to heads of department at his Ministry’s headquarters during an orientation seminar this morning, Mr. Magande said his management style would be even-handed and based on well-thought-out national priorities transcending the boundaries of political affiliation and artificial social dissections

  110. # 10 UCHIPO, you are petty. Why are you talking about tribes.ask your self why it has been so diffult for your favoured tribe not to rule this our country. its because of shallow minded chaps like you you who tanish the images of you capable tribemen.

  111. It is time for the younger generation of polititians to rule. Look at the USA, Russia, Tanzania, DRC etc.Our Good old people like SATA and RB give us covering fire.We thank you for liberating us from the British rule.By the way, marrying a 29 year old when you are 72 does not make you a 29 year old or an average 50 and 1/2 year old. You are still 72.Every dance comes to an end. You have had your dance.Those supporting these worn out politicians are doing it for selfish or the ugly tribal motives. RB retired and was happily resting on his farm when the sweet power was brought to him without a drop of sweat. Please RB and SATA let your future be managed now by the 30, 40 and 50 year olds;

  112. Imwe mwe bantu, SATA is the man until 2011. Have you all forgotten that he was robbed of this presidency? Come on guys. Let us give the guy what is due to him. We will all say beautiful things about Levy now that he is no more, but the reality still remains that that, yes, while the national economy was improving, the people economy was deteriorating. Wake up. Zambia is still far from free. Viva local investors. We have too many foreign investors. Everything is now being given to Chinese – Shame. SATA, you are the man for the job.

  113. # 71 you are DOG ok! why being so critical about Tongas. pipo like yourself are not even supposed to be contributing to this blog.

  114. Where is Miyanda the man of integrity in all this fiasco? He can save us from this nonsense and stire the country to some sensible destiny

  115. We need a younger person with guidance from an older experienced politician.Sata is has been.He was ok some 10 years ago and its the same picture most of you still have of him.As of now sorry forget about him.Try some young guys from any party as long as he has the capabilities of running the country.Sata expired some time ago.

  116. RB is the man for presidency. Let us support him.Abash the post and their ilk.Their evil intentions will not succeed.God is in control.

  117. RB in 2016 will be 80 years old. Only fools will vote for RB and corrupt MMD. What Zambia needs is a young, energetic, vibrant as well as a diligent person so that we can have REAL and TRUE change. Since 1991 we have had all recycled, same all corrupt leaders, 20 years of plunder from some stupid MMD criminals. Zambia in 2016 needs a president from Barotseland, North Western Province or Southern province and that will be the REAL CHANGE. We don’t want anymore crooks from Kolwestan or Ratland please.
