Togo Arrive For Big Match Date

Share

Togo arrived in Zambia 24 hours ahead of Wednesday’s crucial 2010 World/Africa Cup Group 11 qualifier against Zambia minus star striker Emmanuel Adebayor in tow.

Coach dismissed reports that Adebayor from English Premier League side Arsenal had  pulled out of the team at the last minute as the team prepared to leave for Zambia on Monday.

“It is not true that Adebayor will not be joining the team,” Camelio Akoussah said on Tuesday in Ndola upon arrival. ” He(Adebayor) will be coming this evening on a special fight.

“He did not come with us because he had some personal commitments.”

Meanwhile, there were a lot of disappointed faces at Ndola international airport as airport personnel and passengers gathered outside the international arrivals hall to catch a glimpse of the no-show Arsenal star.

Togo landed in Ndola at 16:45 on a Togolese presidential BAC 1-11 Jet  after a four-hour delay in their arrival.

Zambia and Togo face-off at Konkola Stadium in Chililabombwe on Wednesday in a 14:00 kickoff.

Victory for 2nd placed Zambia over 3rd from top Togo would end the latter’s interest in the qualifiers for the 2010 World and Africa Cup finals to be hosed by South Africa and Angola respectively.

Zambia are on 4 points level with leaders Swaziland on the same number of points from three games while Togo is 3rd and  bottom on 3 points from two fixtures with a match in hand.

The group winner will qualify to the Angola finals and also advance to the final World Cup Africa zone qualifying pool stage.

  1. This is the best chace for Zambia to advance as gorup winners. The nation has to rally behind the players and the coaching staff. The problem with our team is the more hope you have in them, the more you get disappointed with their performance and by their results. Go Zambia Go and defy the odds.

  2. #6 Mutolilo, watch out also for the fallen hero Mbesuma. The lad is trying hard to regain his past glory. Mutolilo first goal from Mbesuma; second from the Portugal based lad.

  3. Thats our problem bane we win the game before the ball is even pumped….lets support the lads and hope for the best.Togo is not side we can beat easily with or without Adebeyor.

  4. that’s good news. no Adebayor. dont know why those zambians at the airport were disappointed….. misplaced priorities :-))

  5. It will be great if we win but my hopes are low. Our current crop of players have very low technical ability. Even if we got past this stage we would face major difficulties in world cup qualification.

  6. #4 I’m with you, we were in the same situation with Togo during last qualifiers when we lost 4:0 in Lome which essentially ended our ambitions. I have hope in this team especially winning the South Africa game which was also a do or die. There is no room for complacency this time around. The sooner we score the better as that will calm the nerves and give the Chipoloplo more ammunition. I strongly feel the coach should throw caution to the wind and go all out attack those punks. I wish I could watch the game, i’m getting excited just thinking about the mood in Zambia tomorrow ouch! Twalitemwa fi bola, hardcore supporter Go Zambia Go balange bola ya pa Zed!

  7. Totally in agreement with you #6 and #11, it’s all systems go tomorrow! The usual suspects-watch out for Zambia tomorrow!!! We can’t equally lose the match even before we play….!

  8. you are all right but lets just wait for tomorrow. But if you start exaggerating things you will find that the results will be contrary to your expectations, as a result you will start rioting.

  9. #11 dont worry i wil do the boostele for you. I watchd chris’s team mu bundesliga pa weekend, he scored the match’s first goal tho they were beaten 4 – 2. The dude is good uku dribler aba sungu!

  10. Go Zambia! Please redeem us and put Zambia in its rightful soccer spotlight. I Wish Renard a good judgement to read the proceedings of the game and make inspired substitutions. The player to kick, head and splint in to the Togolese half for the remainder of 90 mins. Fans to cheer and sing Iyeee !! Chipolopolo!! Good luck Zambia.

  11. Iwe ba LT what is this nonsense you are telling that am posting to fast i shud slow down each time i want to post my comments?

  12. ba chipolopolo dont dissapoint me guys i bet $50 bucks on you with my togo co-workers!!!

  13. Crucial game…….Zed can make it even that Arsenal boy comes.
90 mins will tell. If the boys can die a little then the day can be ours.Could be so nice seeing our national colours at the up coming 2010 SA World Cup.Lets go ZeZed!!!!

  14. bola yaisa nomba let us consider the possibility of losing and do the impossibility of winning for now.GO ABANA BA ZED THE BELOVED
COUNTRY!!!!!!2-0 in favour of CHIPO BOYS.

  15. Today Zambia will rise from the ashes and tame Togo
Chipolopolo show us today what you are made of and make Zambia proud

  16. Lelo Mwanya, Ba Zambia Makula Period!! Unless they prove me wrong with this physical trainer for coach. Sorry Bane just being realistic!!

  17. Go Go boys. May God be in front of the Zambia players. Its time we show the togos that they are crippled. One Zambia One National. chipolopolo!!

  18. Bane Adebayor is not coming .Check out BBC Sport ( Africa) Lame excuse. Li fontini.

I suspect he is scared to get hurt or something as he is making 80, 000 pounds a week at Arsenal.

    Good for ZED!!

  19. Togo will be thumped. Leaving the office at 1.00pm sharp to support the lads. The game will be live on Supersport 3. Good luck Chipolopolo. Angola and SA, here we come!!!

  20. Go Zambia go, no matter how much the lads break my heart after some matches, il always have hope and know that they can win.
This just has to be ours, think of the repurcussions – thats what lets me know we will win, besides Mbesuma is back.

  21. all the best mother zambia. no hard feelings but zambia is not a side u can bet your life at. lets jst wait until 90mins or else unangu azataika na stroke. despite yo average performance, we love u zambia. jst try to do us pride (tunwekofye) not another funeral, twalosha pafula..

  22. From BBC

    Adebayor withdraws from Togo trip

Adebayor had demanded that the TFF president fly with the team
Togo captain Emmanuel Adebayor has refused to fly to Zambia for Wednesday’s key 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Arsenal striker’s decision came after a row with the players demanding that the president of the Togo Football Federation (TFF) travel with them.

But the TFF said Tata Avlessi Adaglo would not fly as he was preparing for the burial of his mother.

The rest of the team accepted this, but Adebayor remained in Lome.

A TFF spokesman later confirmed to the BBC that Adebayor had stayed in the Togolese capital.

  23. Lets put everything in the hands of the Lord and pray hard that these boys beat Togo by a big margin. All the best chipolopolo boys we love you so much. God bless you all

  24. I am a true lover of football and would be very happy to see the chipolopolo boys thump togo with or without Ade. but i must express my disappointment over the indiscipline i have seen in the camp.
What is happening is that the trainer or rather “coach” is busy frequenting cycles and Chez Mtemba with local prostitutes and his boys are also busy with their own ‘business’.
How can a coach monitor the behavour of his players of he doesn’t share the same accomodation during camping?
RENERD IS NOT GOOD FOR ZED FOOBTALL!

  25. #29 i agree with you.Abaiche aba makula. The boys who will take Zambia to higher hights are not yet born.Dont fool yourselves,Togo is a tough side with or without Adebayo.Watch out!

  26. Twaba wina eya ee! zambia is taking the day by 2 goals to nil though 3-0 would be sweeter. c Katongo and mbesuma amoung the scorers.

  27. Going by the flags for countries, most negatives mat.ha fa.kas are those living away from ZAMBIA, say USA, UK etc. For us in the neighbourhood (RSA) we know what Zambia can do. Zambia will carry the day today. I know you (in UK, USA etc) you are frustrated by cleaning old people’s backsides, and then you venting your anger on our chipolopolo. Just come back home bako.lwe, or atleast come to RSA where you can make good business and earn thousand of Rands.

  28. Go Zambia go,we are behind you lads and best of all, today is no doubt our day of rennaissance.Angola here we come!!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. #48 Myself, there no printers in Zed do you expect to find cameras? lol. Sorry mate. Even if they had cameras do you think it would be on line? Who would be bothered when politicians go to watch for free unless they do not want. Yet the ordinary zedian pays through his nose to watch the game.

  30. Adebayo isn´t coming for todays game.Go Zambia..would ave been much better hammering them with their famous player.Go Zambia

  31. # Ras Rasted…where in Helsinki do you live? Iam in Helsinki right now and will be around for a few days…fancy a pint?…to celebrate tonight’s victory?

  32. Dont let these flags fool u, im in the centre of lsk but iv been given a foreign flag. il try correct this image.
ZNBC will show the game, just google and hope to find ZNBC live. we need as many supporters as possible

  33. Hope for once zambia doesn’t have to depend on Mathematical chances to

go through to the next round…

lets win clean fair and square and lets not take Ade’s Absence for

granted this guys can still do some damage to us..

Hope we have all learn’t the Teams actually play better when they

don’t have celebrity stars in their line up.

  34. anxiety, excitement slowly mounts to a fever pitch as kick off approaches. wut can be better than being a able to support the team u love. today i do not support arsenal, i have even taken off my zesco jersey: for today i eat copper and bleed in green. I stand proud in the green shadow of a copper eagle.

  35. #63 Zedist clearly said stop copying and pasting. What`s wrong with that?
Mwaletamo ifya complex. Awe limbi abakwete complex nimwebo.

  36. #44 sir lulu, dont really know the source of your information. but if u dont even know that the nite club is called Circles and chez nthemba, i wonder whether your claims have any merit. I sincerely hope it is not the case

  37. Chama Boy should start toegther with Chris and Mbesuma. He can play as a third striker/Right winger. Play felix at the left winger. In second half Bring in that wastefull boy called Mulenga to ride on the wave by his nowhere runs.

  38. Number 63 thanks, i was only trying to show the contradiction between what the Togolese officials stated and what information the BBC had, and further more the BBC are a more reliable source, that is even why i courted my source.

  39. Mbuzi #29 I do agree with you but then we need to hope for the best, its not that physical trainer but Zambia and you. Good luck boyz

  40. Boys , this is a special game o.All of you should put in extra efforts than normal.Hammer togo well so they cant say anything bt succumb. All the Best

  41. Guys lets wait till the game is played, surely do you think Togo has come all the way to loose?? going by the current trend of being “stable” i wonder in what state our national team is???

  42. Zambia 2 Togo 1 Togo has come for a draw meaning i donot see Zambia scoring alot of goals, and whilest they will score through counter attack or some silly mistake from one our defenders. They will close their defense and try to disturb our central midfield

  43. The Zambian National Team Line Up

    1. Kennedy Mweene
    2. Clive Hachilensa 3. Joseph Musonda
    4. Elijah Tana 5. Billy Mwanza
    6. Rainford Kalaba
    8. Felix Katongo
    7. Jacob Mulenga 10. James Chamanga 11. Felix Katongo
    9. Collins Mesuma

    Coach: Herve Renardihno

  44. Myself # 54……….i am within Helsinki, would be nice linking up.
It? a pity the game can be watched live but still all is best, the
weather is together,or stable they say for Zed to get on top of the
    table.
    Myself………how you in Helsinki?

  45. no 83. Though shalt not mislead the bloggers for starters billy was dropped, the official line up is

Kennedy Mweene, Joseph Musonda, chivuta, Hichani Himonde, Elijah Tana, Kebby Hachipuka, Felix Katongo, Chris Katongo, Raiford Kalaba,Jacob Mulenga, Collins Mbesuma

  46. Yesss! its almost time. We gonna win this thing. Mbesuma wil give us a hat trick then a few other Zambian players will score.

    Lets go Zed!

  47. # Iwe HK, you have Ukrainian flag next to your name and yet your update aooears if you are watching the game…. anyhow, keep us updated

  48. best to wait for updates from the admin at Zamfoot . net like i am doing. www(dot)zambianfootball(dot)net/?p=1299

    1-0 Zambiaaaaaaa

  49. I we mambala #119 uli pa zed, uletibiko update. This is the only place some of us can follow. How did the boys play, Mbesuma & all

  50. We are under pressure in the second half..Togo is dominating.. Chama boy has come in but for a wrong player…Felix, the goal scorere

  51. We have re-gained composure, and attacking at the left Flnak with Mbesuma who unleashed a shot to test the new goalgeeker.. narrow angle.. A cross would have done.

  52. MMmmm, coach uyu. Ya shani ukufumyamo felix. I am not watching the game but that doesnt seem like a brilliant decision. I hope we wont end up paying the price, cz we need at least another goal to be safe.

  53. will someone help me with the url where i can see the rules for the 2nd round of African qualifiers. What counts first, goal difference or head to head result

  54. Togolese making a second change.. number 14 Djako, replacing number 4Sege. and Corner taken.. Correction, Felix Katongo is still in the macrh have to comfirm who was taken out..It cud just be that useless Jacob Mulenga

  55. Chama Boy dribbled at the right anc crossed the ball.. Mbesuma missed it and went to Chris and Mbesuma chest it but u can see that his weight is not helping him much.. he has a lot to do to regain his sharpness .
We had a beautifull mood, and kalaba waste it..what a move by felix to chris and a thru ball to kalaba who kicks it hard and goalkeeper saves..lack of imagination by kalaba

  56. I can smell a goal soon.. 68 minutes gone, Zambia lead by 1 goal.. Corner , Noel Chivuta is a good revelation..He has a good touch

  57. A corner taken, missed by Tana and pushed by togo to find hachipuka shoots and goalkeepers saves it..and in the goal scrumble a togo defender injured.. We are pushing for that crucial goal.

  58. C.Katongo, beats the defender on the left flank..and over kicks it and goalkeeper pushes it for corner.. Corer taken by kalaba and mbesuma using a left half biccle kick sends it over the bar for goal kick to Togo.. 72 minutes gone Zambia still lead by one goal

  59. HK, I admire you. You are very hand and you know how to use technology effectively. During the election of RB you gave us ‘live commentry’ and there you are again today. What do you do for a living?

  60. looking like we are going to make a substitue…Number 18 warming up, ..Will give u the name..Chma Boy, is the man..This man should always start ahead of jacob mulenga.. Togo has made their final change.. Mbesuma comes out and replaced by Kola

  61. HK you should consider a career in Journalism. Your descriptions are really good and creating a sort of clar picture of whats happening….Assuming those updates are really true…lol
    Cheers anyway!

  62. Zambia has camped in the togo half, i hope Togo do not catch us on counter attack. A free kick for Togo and yellow Card to Hachipuka for handling the ball.. A second booking of the match. Mweene organising the defenceisve wall

  63. A losse ball sent into Zambia defence line and togo striker almost scored.. Mweene leaves his line and scrumble in a goal..and togo send it for goal kick to Zambia…
Another Yellow card to Kalaba and Substitute of f Chivuta for Kampamba..
A free kick taken and Corner for togo..Zambia clears the danger

  64. It is time to close shop now… Togo has not made any shot on Zambia goal so far.. That was a chance by Roger Kola, the golakeeper tips it over the bar.. we have a corner

  65. Great shot by Kola, but I thought with two other players next to him and only one defender back, they could have gotten a little closer to goal.

  66. We are wasting alot of scoring chances..We definitely need to work on the striking force..and also improve on the passes to our Striker..
Regular time is finshed.. 4 minutes of added time comfirmed

  67. The refree has blown a whistle for a foul on the edge of 18 against zambia.. tis is a dangerous position.. Over the bar.. 2 minutes to play

  68. Ba Zambia iyeeeeeeeeeeeee…….

    Ba Zambia CHIPOLOPOLOOOOOOOOO….

    Ba Zambia iyeeeeeeeeeeee……..

    Ba Zambia CHIPOLOPOLOOOOOOOOO…….

    IYEEEEEEEEEEE……. CHIPOLOPOLOOOOOOO…..

  69. Wow, I can now relax. At least it is a win. Great and special thanks to HK, a true son of mother Zambian. You stepped up to the plate when it mattered , we enjoyed your updates and the adrenaline was pumping. Thanks HK, have a good one and enjoy your day.

  70. # 189 , Uchipo, if the Swazi win, we will be level on points, and they may have a better GD but we will qualify becoz we beat them: head-to-head result counts before goal difference…..i stand to be corrected

  71. Swaziland to win in Togo, forget it, in a million years.Togo will want to finish 2nd they will go for broke to win this one. I can put my head on the block.Zambia 7 pts, Togo 6 pts, Swazi 4.Thats what the table will look like.

  72. how come the guys on super sport where saying should the Swazi’s win 1 nile they are through and how many in the group go to Africa cup/

  73. Twanwa again, shala lila impolopolo lelo.

Thanks HK for the scripted live commentary.

I will remember to include your name on ‘cheers’ to Zambia at the Pub.

  74. I’m pretty sure the rules are head to head and not goal difference. This is to prevent match fixing (i.e. Togo throwing the match against Swazi). Therefore Zambia should be qualified, since we have a 1-0 aggregate head to head with Swazi.

Anyway on 7 points, even if Zambia finished 2nd will likely grab one of the 8 2nd place positions. But we don’t have to worry about that!

Thanks Boys…you played well…just a bit shaky at the back. Please don’t give unnecessary free kicks!!

  75. Felix Katongo scored a superb goal on the half-hour mark to give hosts Zambia a 1-0 win against Togo in their 2010 World Cup/Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Chililabombwe on Wednesday.
The victory for the Zambians has assured them of top place in their group and virtually seal their place in Angola 2010 going into the last qualifying matches in October.

The last game between Swaziland and Togo will be staged in a neutral Ghana after Togo was banned from playing their home matches in Lome following rioting by fans during their 2006 World Cup qualifier against Mali.

The game between the two countries was postponed because of the official mourning period decreed in the country foll

  76. Thanks guys for all the updates and the website. Thumbs up to HK for live commentry. One Zambia one nation. Chipolopolo boys go go go go

  77. We are through even if they use the mathematical formula they are going to applly to see who is going to be among the eight best runners up. Guys look out for this on BBC. CONGRATS TO ZED

  78. Yes, well done lads. Played quite well, especially the mid-field and good to see Collins back in action. I’m sure his fitness will only pick up from here…..however we need to learn to kill-off games when we have chances. Last five minutes seemed mo like five hours..

  79. can somebody guide me on what might happen if Swaziland beat Togo in Lome next month?

They may then top the group. What happens then to Zambia?

  80. Bane..Natuwina Bola. We can resume the debate now. Rupiah Banda was at the Match. He is a soccer fan, am sure that will augur well with a number of fans. He looked quite comfortable and watching the Match. I am sure he will be campaiging all the way back to lusaka, instead of using a Chopper or Presido JET.

  81. Swaziland beating Togo, I just don’t see that happening coz Togo are not completely out of it…..remember the score lines in this group have been pretty tight so a point away from the top team will still give them hope of coming out second best losers! If at all the Swazis beat Togo, we are still in it coz we will definitely come out as second best losers.

  82. OK.This win puts Zambia to next round of the 2010 Africa and World Cup qualifiers even if Swaziland beats Togo next month in the final group game. If that scenario happens both countries will advance and Zambia will qualify as one of the best eight second placed teams. Swaziland will top the group with a better goal difference. Head on head criteria is NOT applicable in this campaign.
In the final qualifying round, countries will be placed in five groups comprising five countries. The top countries from each group after the qualifying series will join the host, South Africa to represent Africa in the 2010 World Cup finals, taking the number of African teams to six at the biggest fball show

  83. Zedist, if Togo WIN, the top the group with seven points. Then Zambia will also qualify on rule number 2 on the best 8 teams.
2 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss. The probability is that Togo would also want to go for the best second placed team, hence the chancs of Togo win or draw more certain.

  84. All those giving me Kudos: Thanks guys, Am happy that you appreciated the small gesture of Political cease fire.. Maybe in future we can improve on the services through a regular Webchannel for Zed matches.

  85. #218 ba zedist
thank you for clarifying i was wondering what will happened next though we should wish the Swazi’s bad luck i gues the better team in the group should make it to the next round for the world cup

  86. Hk, A point of clarification at #220. Togo cannever top the group. they have only 3 points. Yes Swaziland stands to top the group if they beat Togo by any margin because they have 4 points and by winning they also come to 7 points but would have a better goal difference to Zambia’s. Then we would have the same number of points at 7 apiece. We would all qualify because we would have the same points but be second on account of goal difference.
If they draw, Zambia would have 7 points, Swazi 5, and Togo 4. If Togo wins, it will be Zambia 7, Togo 6, Swazi 4. So we are already through to the last round. Congrats to the Chipolopolo. Iyee!!! Nalelo twawina, Chipolopolo.

  87. Dont worry zedian fans. Swaziland has only won one away match in the last twenty years, in the cosafa to Zimbabwe (3-2). They are one of the worst travellers on the continent. They are tough at home (what ever they use at at their stadium no one knows) but hopeless away. They will lose in Togo and the best for them will be a draw. Togo will not lie down and wait to be beaten. We shall still top the group but the next stage will be tough as we are unable to take our chances.

  88. The Zambian Team is getting better. I still have hope. The other advantage we have is that we will considered as “underdogs”.

Viva Chipolopolo. Lets do it, one game at a time.

  89. The guys played superb football in the first half. I was there at konkola Stadium and I believe Zambia is on the way up.

We have to work much harder in the next round as it will be tough

  90. Its like you read my mind! You appear to grasp a lot approximately this, like you wrote the e book in it or something. I think that you simply can do with a few p.c. to pressure the message home a bit, however instead of that, that is fantastic blog. A great read. I’ll definitely be back.
