East PS evacuated to South Africa for treatment

Share

Eastern Province Permanent Secretary, Kelvin Kamuwanga, has been evacuated to South Africa from the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) where he was admitted for six days after he collapsed.

Eastern Province Minister, Charles Shawa, said today in Chipata during a media briefing that Mr. Kamuwanga was last Saturday flown to South Africa for medical treatment.

Mr. Kamuwanga collapsed at his house in Chipata on September 7th and was evacuated to UTH where he was admitted until last Saturday when he was flown to South Africa for further treatment.

Meanwhile, Mr. Shawa has thanked the people of Eastern province for their support during the illness and subsequent death of President Levy Mwanawasa last month.

He stated that the turnout of people from all the eight districts for the body viewing ceremony in Chipata was a clear indication that people in the area appreciated the leadership of the late President and wanted to pay their last respect.

And Mr. Shawa has called for peaceful campaigns for October 30, 2008 president by-elections.

He said there was need for people to conduct campaigns peacefully, adding that all political parties should base their campaigns on national issues and not on character assassination.

“Insults and character assassination should not be practiced in the province,” he said.

  1. Amalilo ya li mupepi. Things are not looking good. Let us get a proper update on this. The man might be already the late. So long my brother so long.

  2. But why havent you told us what he s suffering from? Has he not been witched? Please dont waste Govt resources on people who just collapse without cause.Try witch doctors when it comes to such.Hope he ll survive.

  3. But does he have to leave the country? Wat if am not minister, it means I will die fast. can somebody pliz improve our hospitals, let him get well soon but next time let die in Zed if he also die in RSA it will be very expensive for Govt to get him body too. just like Levy’s

  4. let these guys die from UTH then they will try to improve services and sanitation, this nonsense of evacuating or whatever they call it to RSA is rubish.zambians cant be paying for their medication in other countries yet they cant improve our own facilities.the money used in the countries can drastically improve our clinics and hospitals in Z just find out how many of thses chaps rush to RSA bambi kula sanfya blood so the ARVs work well, ifthose finaces are diverted to buy/update equipment and services there wont be need to fly to south as the DR who will attend to him is a zedian actually formerly at UTH.let him come back so he can indure what we do when we go to local health centers

  5. here in russia i am even tired of collapsin due to hunger so you shud evacuate me to london for treatment. may be he did not eat because he is a PS en u think not.so is me u think am in europe but i dont have money. HELP SOMEBODY HUNGER IN RUSSIA ZAMBIAN STUDENTS.

  6. # 6 na #7 Baiche Namusosa sana pantu these people wil never improve our health system in the Country. People in Government and their family die abroad which is a cost to the Government. This is why VJ also wants to be in Government because he wants to be evacuated…IMPROVE EDUCATION and HEALTH SYSTEM. CAPACITY BUILDING Bakalamba.

  7. Too many people collapsing nowadays. Whats going on? This time they have avoided the use of the term “stable”. I hope its not a stroke.

  8. Please improve on our Zambian hospitals rather than rushing to evacuate to hospitals outside the country. The doctors and nurses you find there, mostly are zambians.

  9. Guyz I think its very unfair for people to joke over sickness.
When you comment just remember these people have relatives who value their lives so much.Who are you to say we should prepare for a state funeral??? For your own information the man we are talking about is my Uncle and he is doing very well. I’m by his bed side and believe me, we are praying and fasting for him as a family and God is own our side.
    Get well soon uncle Kelvin.
    We Love u.

  10. The amount of money spent on evacuations and hospital bills in other countries could build a nice excutive wing with state of the art machinery at UTH. How long is this going to go on. Even Ka FTJ is still treKking!!.

Where’s is Miyanda to bring Sanity to the Nation!!

  11. IWE ZOON NDIWE MBUZI! YOU THINK MIYANDA CAN DO ANYTHING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE HEALTH SECTOR? HE IS ACTUALLY JUST A GOAT LIKE YOU.

  12. MAWE YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
ELOLWANYA….nafuti…niku hospital…all the time is to go outside the country for medication moreover bamu govt…nga ifwe inchushi…nimuloko…plz ba govt improve the standard of hospitals in zambia otherwise kulafwa fwe….icisheleko..

  13. This tendency of susequent evacuation of government officials to foreign countries for better medical attention clearly outlines two issues, either unqualified staff back home or poor medical facilities.
I suggest that the next governement should invest more in medical facilities and ensure that all hospitals have all the necesaary equipment and staff well remunerated for motivation in order to sustain the lives of poor Zambians who can’t afford to fly to other countries for treatment.

  14. ‘Stable’ ba Kelo collapsed? why did they take him to Maina Soko where they treat pipo who collapse eg Masebo? These chaps are using tax payers’ mane even ba PS being evacuated? elo lwanya zoona so who is going to improve the standards of hospitals pa Zed? this trend should come to an end. all his clan are in SA. This is bad guys Kelovin nikabwanga chabe…. but pa Zed

  15. I think there is a need to compel the government to publish the amount of money which has been spent on these ‘evacuations’ to RSA and other places for medical treatment. The Zambian people can then compare this expenditure with that spent by the Ministry of Health in the Country. I am not suggesting that they publish the names of people evacuated. Just the money spent.

  16. Wish all those that are evacuated to RSA could come back died like those poor souls in UTH. Coz this is unfair or better close UTH and send all patients to the same RSA clinics.
    MMD to goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  17. thez guys never learn.we need more burrial sites for foreign cargo. we will be waiting for the dry cargo i hope GVT why not bring those special equip AND Dr for all ZAMBIANS? plis use the increaments to procure these for all poor zambians. come on guys for how long are we going to SAY THIS. HH SATA PLIS ACTIVATE THIS ON 1st NOV?????????????????????????

  18. Mulongoti might just give some updates on this man, he’s an expert in “strokes and stability” mwalaba shani!!!!!!!!!

  19. Get well soon our beloved PS. We are with you in prayers and God is going to cure you. We wish you well and Jesus is in contral.

  20. Quick recovery PS.

I’m just concerned with the evacuation business; when is it gonna end??? What will make us improve our facilities to the extent that even our neighbours will be evacuated to our hospitals. We can’t be having the same problem year in, year out like we don’t know what we are doing. How about the people who can’t afford … what happens to them?

  21. Which Hospital entrance is that? plse LT, tell me which Hospital is that? Looks like Rosebank Clinic in Johannesburg, I worked there 8 years ago!

  22. Imwe naimwe start by first answering the question WHAT ARE U DOING RIGHT WHERE U ARE? Your answer applies to the reason why the many Doctors that we have produced but not available to serve the pipo in Zed.

I tell you UTH is pathetic. So far only the Pediatric wing seems to be doing fine though it is also under staffed.

    1. Kulibe equipment

    2. Low income for Docs (shamefull housing allowance)

    3. No “responsibility allowance

Elo manje vi boma navo kungo tamangila evacuation instead ba chiteko improve vipatala vatu. I even wonder why they are so proud of building another hospital in Lsk when UTH and other Hospitals and clinics around are horrible. Ati to “decongest” UTH my @%@#&^….

  23. KASIZANI can you tell your uncle evrything we have writen especially while he is in pain so he can realise what pipo go thru in UTH. rubish, you are so upset dont you know that he doesnt even deserve to be uplifted to RSA if u went 2 UTH u will find more deserving patients than him you think we dont know and if he dies my old mothers tax will pay for his funeral.be realistic.tell him to improve petauke katete or lundazi hospitals thats if they even have.in these places were he is PS they still have childrens scales on trees and this is 2008,shame on him.tell him we need our taxes well spent.bonse tukafwa but lets allow our loved ones also to die with dignity in UTH,even u,will die in UTH.

  24. bafulwa ba guy,its okey.you feed on the same plate with him wait until all this is over then you will understnd why pipo react the way they do,the reality is sick or not he doesnt desrve the luxury he is getting, just in pretoria n joberg there about 16 zedian dr,but we cant attract them becoz yo uncle and his network are useless to the welbeing of zambians.they prefer to fly out to get a drip and panado when they can get at UTH.and an ordinary zambian is even given prescription for panado and asprin.imwe bantu sure.i think our politicians have vibanda thats why we cant progress.even with all the education their brains dont work.i hope hez the last to get evacuate

  25. what about the poor chap who collapses and then his family has no car and then has to beg for money to hire a car beacuse theres no more humansim left in this country and no one will give him a ride for free to take him to a hospital which has no casualty department to talk about and then finds no doctor beacuse they dont get paid enough and a nurse with a bad attitude because she is not paid enough and then when the doctor eventually comes after doing god knows what with a nurse to tell you theres no medicine and gives you a prescription….and theres nothing you can do.. the poor guys fate is sealed.
wish these guys could get a taste of this..

  26. i think marlon Zaza is our ‘prophet’. he predicted LPM’s death. maybe he can predict who will win the electons. Hahaaa
its better he prepares us ka.

  27. Shame to fly all the way to JHB only to be cared for by the same Zambian Drs and Nurses they chased.Hope its not another problem of obesity and lack of exercise. We read that reflection on what happened to Levy i hope the wise are cutting down on imichopo and kachasu or is it mosi?lets learn to live health, and lets work on our health sector mwebantu. Are we not ashamed to be flying in corpses from all over the world because of lack of Hospitals and staff sure?Iam sure South Africans laugh at us whats the problem with us,twalitipwa?

  28. The lord has a way of dealing with plunderers and fortune seekers. If the PS was an ordinary citizen, he would be have been left to fend for himself. That is why we need to get rid of the MMD government as we as the citizens of zambia deserve the same health care benefits.

  29. Welcome back to One Party Participatory Democracy. There is no doubt that RB (KK) will win the presidential elections. KK and UNIP are busy doing repairs to the old election rigging machine. After the by-elections the machine will be further modified to allow the electorate to Vote YES or NO. Mwanya ma Zambians. Those people who tried to expel KK from Zed muza chi ona. And that smart mouth who went about revealing state secrets (tunnels) will face the music. The mines will be re nationalized at least 51%, thank you. Chisokone bane, chisokone….icho, icho, icho…..!!!!!!

  30. This evacuation nonsense at government expense must stop. And No 14 you are a fool; who cares if he has relatives. Government is failing to pay poor former civil servants, some of whom die because they cannot afford to buy simple medicines! You are courting revolution in Zambia imwe ba galu!!!!!!!!
