Woman back after giving birth in transit to Dubai

Share

A Zambia woman, who gave birth in Addis Ababa Ethiopia in July while on transit to Dubai on a business trip, has finally left that country for Zambia.

Barbara Mushota, 32 was seen off at Bole International Airport by officials from the Zambian embassy in Addis Ababa yesterday.

On July 18th, 2008, Ms. Mushota went into labour when she arrived at Bole International Airport and was rushed from the airport to the nearest hospital by Ethiopian airline officials. She gave birth to twins on the same day. One of the twins, a boy, died after birth but the girl survived and has been in an incubator in Addis Ababa’s Korean hospital for the past two months.

Ms. Mushota told Zambian embassy staff that saw her off at the airport that she was grateful for the assistance and support she received from the Zambian community the past two months.

Acting Head of mission at the Zambia Embassy in Addis Ababa Patrick Ngoma has however, advised women with advanced pregnancies to avoid traveling in order to avoid such incidents.

This is contained in a press statement issued to ZANIS by First Secretary for Press at the Zambian Embassy in Ethiopia, Dorcas Chileshe.

  1. Ms Mushota,at your age (32) u mean u neva knew yo DDay. U r a disgrace to our mother zambia. U r so iliterate, grateful finshi?Ba mayo imwe tamwaba mweka, mwalipena atase. Ukutemwa business mwaipaisha innocent baby.Mwikabwekeshapo, efyo yaba amafumo ya damage. Kapoli iwe.

  2. This is a sad situation. Twin pregnancies are high risk. What in the world was she doing traveling foreign country with advanced high risk pregnancy? May the little boy’s soul rest in peace. I hope the little girl joins her mother soon.

  3. Ms Mushota, even when you were travelling you couldnt feel that your pregnancy was in advanced stages? This should be the first and last warning to you and many bussiness women who like travelling to far places when they are pregnant. That is risking the unborn babies. Dont repeat it.

  4. This is really sad
But i thought women who are at an advanced stage of pregnace were not supposed to be allowed to fly especially long distance. She should also have known better than to take sucha dangerous risk. Indeed umulume nao alelinga ukumuma ifikoti ifingi sana kumatako na kuntanshi mambala!!

  5. 1-6 let me introduce you to a new word “premature birth” what makes you think she was 9months pregnant, no airline would have let her board.she may as well have been 7months pregnant.Lekeni ukuponta!

  6. Koma gelo unaitaya zoona..umabaila dobo…nanga niyabwaji kumachalo kwabene na mimba ya 9 months….si unayende kusukulu….ndiwe ozima

  7. elubanga delandapo eyi.Yibi lubanga mwebanensu.lubanga cakulya ca mfumu eco batila umulya nfumu.Noba wamona ms mushota umwana afwa.Kanshi libange lyashani mupepa?Lyanseke nangu lya mu bulanketi?Ulenjeba tawamwene ati uli pakati taufwile kwenda?iyo napapa.

  8. Sinkani yamene tunanvela.steal borns in Asia, Dubai and TZ ar fecthing high or thats the capital for most women .Mhhh Mhhh Mhhh,I smel a rat. There is Know way some one who is over eight months or even seven months can be allowed to go on a six hours fight how??????

  9. Mary # 9 you dont know what you are talking about…even at 7 months, the airline shouldnt have allowed her to fly only on Medical grounds …5 months to 6 months is ok but still you need a letter from the Doctor atesting that there is no risk to the mother nd the baby…i just had a baby so i know

  10. #9… Even 7 is too much for a twin preg. I believe she did not know but Zed makwebo……Dubai? Chimo chikafwila mu ndeke.

  11. #14 you aren’t the only one who just had a baby. I travelled at 33 weeks, ofcourse not an exceedly long journey like our bana mayo who went to dubai. airlines differ.some will let you fly up to 8months.She may have travelled with a doctors approval.Besides Ultra sound scans are not routinely done in zambia,so she may not have known that she was carrying twins especially if it was her 1st pregnancy.

  12. Congratulations but you should have been intelligent enough to know what was going to go down.Especially at 32.Where was your man when you where leaving.I blame him too.Hustling for a dollar at that stage of pregnancy aint worth it.Now,go back home, chill in the house & take care of your baby girl.

  13. Jesus. the boy would have been the future president who can increase our stipend in russia. now that he is dead we will blame you girl. i shout at you, nakukalipila, isiye vaupuba. i didnt go school today because i dont have transport money for metro. hope RB en his policies will pay us soon. njala.

  14. Its really disapointing to find out that such a mature lady could not properly follow her calender poperly.does it mean that you neve went thru grade 9 for sure, becoz nowadays even a G9 can count around wat tym she expects to deliver.Unless you say U did not know you were PABUKULU imwe ba bamayo.
Too bad you cant convince any one…
like all concerned fellas, pliz take the advice and watchout next tym rest you loose your life.

    one zambia,one nation!

  15. No:9 Mary has spoken well. It seems like this was premature labor. The infant had to be kept in an incubator for a while. That was definitely not a full term baby. Besides airlines do not allow heavily pregnant women to travel. For her not to show, Hers must have been a second trimester pregnancy especially considering she was carrying twins. Just the fact that she was carrying twins should have made her tummy twice the size of a single baby pregnancy. There is no way the airline would have allowed her on the flight with a 9 month, even seven or eight month twin pregnancy. Don’t be quick to judge.

  16. #20 Mary…Yes i do agree with you but she should have used a better judgement even people in far rural Zambia know. SHE JUST WANTED TO GIVE BIRTH IN DUBAI BUT SIVI NAYENDE MUSHE

  17. Sad indeed. Men take it easy.#9 is right.Dont jump to conclusions because you ve never experienced child bearing. All what you know is faka faka faka thats it.Especially Chi Anonymous you are the loudest on LT.

  18. what was in Dubai anyway.she would have sold thoses babies.Get a RAV4 or something. That accident is good redence ..take the surving baby away from that monster. or call me on 999999999

  19. cont…..if she had arrived in Dubai give birth quite ok sell the babies then. tell the unsupecting relatives ati umwana alifwa.. 3 mounths later a fleet of RAV4s…with personalised # BAB 1 ,shopping at MANDA Hill. Trips to South, Fxxxxxking ypung stars.
    Come on tumaiziba.nifwe ba MATERO.

  20. I don’t understand the abuse or that she has brought shame etc. I travelled to Norway when I was 7 months pregnant.

Things happen in life. We all make mistakes. So gentlemen and ladies calm down. Your language on the lady is unnecessarily harsh.

  21. #9 Mary, you are very wise, alot of babys are born very premature. We don,t know how far she was gone, thus see no reason why people should insult the lady or Mary.As we all don,t know the real story…but just suppose she were meant to give birth in dubai or maybe her partner lives in Dubai.Gentlemen before we go on the blog ,to insult, put your sisters or even your partners in MS Mushota,s position.Good luck and God bless to Ms Mushota and the baby

  22. You rascals listen attentitively. Our lady was not due. Her EDD could have been many moons away. These african earoplanes perform a lot of gymnastics up there such that women deliver prematurely. Ive heard of stories where Some people usually defeacate when these planes encounter tarbulents. So blame it on the old fleet of planes you africans have and not on this innocent lady.

  23. # 27,…. i very much agree with you, some men only know how to faka faka anyhow and when babies are made they run away so fast like dogs with tails in between their legs.
So we dont know why she travelled at 7 months… definately the twins were premature. As for the boy MHSRIP and the girl good luck so you can be our future female president so people can debate on your origin…. some will say she is zambian others will say she is Ethopian.

  24. God bless Barbara Mushota and all you mothers arround the world..Respect peace and love.
Hey guys lets show maturity…why Zambians are always quick to conclude….MULAKONKLUDA SANA

  25. Would be good if travel agents take time to provide needed advice to expecting women upfront before they even produce the money to pay for their travel. We are so overtaken by making money that we lose out on our own safety and that of others. We need to be well educated and informed about these situations. Lack of education causes us to pay high prices and cost our life. Let me say sometimes time and unforeseen circumstances befall us all and maybe that is what happened to this poor woman, she may not even have been close to her due date but due to complications or other things, she went into premature labor, but a WORD OF CAUTION minimise travel when you are expecting and far along..

  26. Most guys on the internet are kawayawas…they just have access to the PC and they play big..and yet they are just ngwangwazi

  27. Imwe ba fika..(censored)are you going to feed her? Let the woman alone. She is enterprising. Your doormats just wait for handouts. Malabishi

  28. it fun to read postings as i get something to laugh about.

the twins were pre term and maybe she didnt even know that she had twins in Z scans cost alot unless you can afford to have most women just give birth without ever having one, pregnancies are diferent one from the other so she may never have experience any problem for her to suspect any risk.but ofcourse high presure due to flights can trigger other issues but all in all pregnant women are allowed to travell long distance until 33 weeks and short distances their after.unless its ugernt.i know a half brit/zedian who evrytime she is 37 weeks she goes to uk to give birth all her 3 kids she did that.so it depends also na airline

  29. #43 i think u are the one who is kawayawas….landafye…..am sure wer you are…niwebo ka kaboi…kasanfwa inkumba…na mpongo

  30. She was trying to make ends meet. Why do you want to demonise her. I salute her for being hardworking, it is only sad that the boy died. One thing you aught to realise it that Barbra gave birth probably to prematures hence the reason for the surviving girl being put in the incubetor, you can’t blame her because it was an early delivery which she never expected. What did you want her to feed her twins when they were born, you on this blog who are condeming her for going for business? Be realistic and come to sense that it is hardwork that brings food for our children on the table.

  31. Havana pa zed.Ninshi chiluba alipele bonse bonse uku tester?Umunenu ali na malilo imwe mule shooter fye.Check youtube ftj,kk and madiba.

  32. Thank God Ms Mushota and her daughter are fine and now heading for home Zambia. Sad about the boy who died, MHSRIP. Please, Ms Mushota take care of the child and train her in the way of the Lord God. May you be blessed.

  33. #46 am just a thamanga based in ZAMBIA…I live in Chilanga..Mt Makulu…ati shani kubulaya mwebanensu muletutuminako western union
    imwe ba suntwe minungu yahau

  34. Sometimes a baby may come a month early than the due date. In Zambia most people do business to make a living and sometimes it involves travelling. Barbara it is good that you are working hard God bless you. When I read some of the comments I can tell that most of those making bad comments have not visited Zambia in a long time to see what people go thru to have a meal for there families.

  35. How are wish we could use this without too heavy a language. LT this is great but we the writters may spoil it if we are not watchful.

Too bad for the lady. Be careful next time otherwise it will be irresponsibility on your side

  36. to the uninitiated a an ultrasonography costs 10pin at UTH and for some to afford an airticket the odds are they definately can afford one vevn at a private clinic. premature labour sounds a likely bet but a twin pregnancy is shorter than a normal pregnancy. may the boy rest in peace

  37. uyu umwanakashi ni MS taupwa. SO taishibe nelyo akwete ifumo. Aba business balapelapela sana. A pregnancy for twins does not go the full 9 months, never.Twins are delivered before the 36th week. So delivering at 7 months in not uncommon. Now considering that our sister did not when she got pregnant and by who anything can happen.

  38. I hear in Dubai they sell pregnances (unborn babies) to satanists in exchange for cars or money. Maybe …………

  39. I have been away from Zambia for 10 years and I intend to visit at the end of the year. Is it true that most Zambians are now practicing satanism? I don’t want to believe that most of the people I intend to visit are worshipping the devil. Someone even mentioned that my own family in Zed was also practicing. Can someone give me an idea regarding the extent of this disturbing issue? Help!

  40. She was not going for business, she was going to the father of the twins so that the twins could be born there and have that country’s nationality. She got pregnant during one of her trips in dubai sometime back.

  41. Muna wahae kisanganu ahulu. Ukona cwani ku siya musalahae kuya kwalipisinisi inge aitwezi. Kapa yena musali yo neli fela mba yakufumana mwanzila?

    Very schopet bati!!!!!!!!

  42. Some ignorant people will now claim that the woman gave birth to stateless twin birds.

Just because the children where born on the place enroute does not take away their Zambian citizenship.

Many here claiming that if a child is born outside Zambia then he is not Zambian. Go ahead and state that this woman gave birth to stateless birds (born in the air).

Ignorance must be punished with the highest penalty.

  43. Bloggers! if this is the way you can give advice to us then its not on. Anything can happen at an expected time. To begin with she is Ms not Mrs. She is trying to make living and maybe the man is not industrious enough. or was hit and run. is she suppose to wait for him to pay the bills and give her bread and butter? if she hadnt want the children she would have not been pregnant, for her to carry the children for that long then she was ready to have them pity one died and two months in an incubator means premature. she should have been 5 mnths. dont throw stones at her if you have never faka faka as someone has put.
LT posting comment too fimo fimo is irritating.

  44. ACTUALLY, THIS WOMAN HAD NO LOVE FOR THESE LITTLE THINGS. SHE MUST HAVE CONCEALED THE PREGNACY EVEN AS SHE WAS BOARDING THE PLANE.
    LESE TEWAKWANGASHA?

  45. Iwe #9 were is it indicated tht twas a premature birth?Bont advertise yo ignorance puuuuuuuuuulllllllllllliiiiiiiiiiiiiizzzzzzzzzzzz. So iwe wen a baby is put in an incubator ninshi ni premature?Certainly nt,twins pregnancies r complicated hence da nid 2put babies in incubators. So premature is a new word 2u,thank da pipo wu tuk u 2sku 2learn tht word.

  46. Ba barbara needs help from Alangizi, how could she travel in that condition. Its true she wanted to trade off the twins in dubai. shame on YOU Barbie!!!!!!!!!!!

  47. Leave the poor woman alone. You know you can’t not predict what will happen. All those condemning her do can you prevent the future, this is the way God designed it to be nothing happens from without.

  48. No.84, Ba Barbaras friend since you know her why did not advise her to leave way before due date!! What is the father to the twins saying about all this. Its rather sad. Howeva is she a business woman?

  49. ukutemwa business she might have even lied to the air line that she was seven months because no one can tell apart from the owner ninsala mayo where is the owner of the baby he should be sad ya kupula ifumo

  50. to william who has stayed away for ten years its true zambians for the love of money some have involved themselves in to satanism but you know you cant tell who s in it and who’s not but the best thing is to be prayerful then you ill be able to desern especialy those that attack you some are hiding in the name of church so its just you and your God if you worship the true God he will help to keep away from these people or even review to you ,some tey join unkowingly so its a tricky situation.

  51. The poor lady should be left alone. Whatever happened is sad news and am sure it was somehow unexpected. With the Doctor’s consent,I have travelled before for a flight of 20 hours- with my wife at 27 weeks pregnant and all was well. People need to understand that that we can not tell what led to this lady’s situation unless we get all the facts right. We should just wish her and the baby well.

Can the government also do something to the economy to avoid some of these trips! They have turned our country into some “supermarket” of some sort.

  52. LT, give us more information on this lady !!!!! where does she stay pa zed , how long has she been in business, has she been married before, and is she really normal

  53. #9 Don’t make us look like we don’t travel and don’t understand what goes on. Barbara knew her condition and she decided to travel. Shame on her!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  54. Twin pregnancies by their own nature are complicated and there’s no telling when one would deliver but that does not mean one has to be an invalid.secondly in this country scaning of pregnant women is rarely done and all that the medical staff do is palpate, check foetal heart manually, etc. At 32 weeks many a pregnant woman would not know they are carrying twins so it would not necessarily be her fault. There are some bodies that can carry twin pregnancies to full term while others can not.there are alot of factors that could have led to this unfortunate situation but all in all it was not within her control.

  55. CETERISPARIBUS-ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL.

Let us forgive this mother for her mistake. If the owner of the house knew that the thieves will visit him,he wud have stayed awake…Just like this woman,if she knew her fate, she wud hav stayed hom…but evn then our plans are not Gods, neither are our thots…if that child was destined to survive he could hav survived come wat may.God bless u all.

  56. We shouldn’t accuse this woman for having travelled to Dubia. I blame the airline that allowed this woman to board the flight. I believe every airline takes the risk and responsiblity of carrying pregnanent women. What needs to be done is educate the public that they can not travel when they are pregnant. Flying at any stage in pregnancy is very riskly. It’s even more risky to travel in the early pregnancy. I was due to travel home but i have not been allowed to do so!!! Educate the woman and not blame them or insult them because you don’t solve anything. Remember we all came from a woman who needs to be respected!!!

  57. #103 You are right. Twin pregancy is complicated. You can deliver anytime even before your due day. Am expecting twin and i have been advised by doctors that the twins can come any time and any minute before your due date. So please keep quite if you don’t know anything about pregancies. Than insulitng the poor woman.

  58. THE DEVELOPMENT WAS SAD BUT NOT SHAMEFUL.FOR THE BABY GIRL TO BE IN THE INCUBATOR FOR ONE FULL MONTH,IT MEANS SHE WAS FAR FROM BEEN DUE.STORIES HAVE BEEN GOING ON FOR SOMETIME NOW THAT BUSINESS LADIES SALE BABIES IN DUBAI BUT LETS NOT JUMP TO CONCLUSION. I THANK GOD ONE BABY AND THE MONTHER ARE ALIVE.

  59. #9 Mary Even if she was 7 months, that was advanced and anything could have happened, i.e she could have premature babies any time at 7 months. The best way for her would have to start expecting around that time (at 7 months) and not to risk by putting her business interests ahead of her own unborn babies. Uyu mayo alitemwisha indalama ukucila umweo. It’s like you also do not realise how sacred life is. Any pregnant woman is advised not to travel long distances for the safety of her pregnancy and herself.

  60. Ulindoshi we mayo. Sorry for the baby boy and good luck to the baby girl, I hope she is Zambian. Wapapusha Zambia we Hule we.

  61. i had my twins at 35 weeks a boy and a girl I was on bed rest throughtout my pregnancy It was harder than a single pregnancy.I salute Ms Mushota for her courage.Do you Think if she knew this was to happen or put her unborn babies in danger she could have travelled? You people before calling her all sort..( ) just THINK????????eh

  62. i have no sympathy 4 that mushota woman wapapisha i ndola . i dont think she is married coz no sane hubby will allow wife to trvel . u dont need ultra sound to detect twins our midwives a very competent ka mushota ta wa leya kuchipimo iwe

  63. To “Anonyomous” at #97:
Thank you so much for your response to my question concerning the practice of satanism in Zambia. I appreciate your feedback. I am very religious and I pray to God that anyone who tries to trick me into joining satanism fails. You are right, it is a very tricky situation. There are very few people even in my own family whom I can trust. I am very sad that I can’t trust most of the people I know back home. I still want to visit, and invest in Zambia. Thank you again.

  64. Ba Mary, pliz don’t tells us about premature. We are all parents. U should understand the dynamics of cabin pressure. wen my wife was 7mths we had to ask for a doctor’s consent for her to fly to SA. If u ears can block think what would happen wen u fly with twins inside u. Barbara, money aren’t life you should have taken it easy during the later stages of the cycle. You risked your life and that of the babies. Selfish girl

  65. The husband of this woman doesn’t know what happens when these women just get aboard the Aircraft. U bu hule utampila pa Airport, where they spend a night is another story. THOSE TWINS MIGHT NOT BE HIS. do DNA Check! Believe me u, I have travelled with those women at one of my travels. U should listen to what they boast and talk about their SILLY HUBBIES back home pa ZEDI!.

  66. It was bad of her to travel a long distance expecially when ones prgnancy is between 6 – 9 cause for some women they don’t even reach in the 9th month. I hope women have learnet a lesson not only for those who go for business trips but even for those who go on visits unless with permited medical gorunds in terms of how safe and secure on is to travel. May the almighty forgive her and i wish the soul of the faithful baby rest in enternal peace.

  67. I remember on my 3rd pregnancy, Zambian Express could not allow me to fly from Ndola to Lusaka as I was just SIX Months pregnant, I had to sign a declaration of ‘flying against their advive’, Well I signed, after all I had the ticket already.

  68. mwebantu please learn to forgive and take things as they come ,honestly who would want to have pregnancy ,go through all the pains and in the end wants to loose the child or sell .To all the doubting Thomas shut up and analyse the matter critically with all whole your senses.YOu know its nasty to have full of and short of brains.
