Kanyama residents chant anti-MMD slogans

Some Kanyama residents chanted anti-MMD slogans when Acting President Rupiah Banda visited Kanyama Clinic and threatened that they would not vote for the ruling party in the forthcoming polls if government did not address the problems that Kanyama clinic was facing.

Some residents cited power outages as one of the major problem that the Clinic was experiencing in the provision of better health services to the community.

They threatened that they would not support the ruling MMD party in the forthcoming October 30 presidential election if government did not procure a generator in order to address the power outages that the clinic was experiencing.

The Acting President was accompanied by MMD National Chairman Michael Mabenga, MMD National Secretary Katele Kalumba, MMD Campaign Manager for Mr Banda Mike Mulongoti and Presidential Affairs Minister Cecil Holmes.

Others were Lusaka Province Minister Lameck Mangani, Home Affairs Minister Ronnie Shikapwasha and other senior government and party officials.

And usiness yesterday came to a stand-still for over 30 minutes as Acting President Rupiah Banda launched the MMD party campaigns in Lusaka’s Soweto and City markets respectively.

People who came from different walks of life lined-up in a queue along the Los Angeles road trying to get a glimpse as the Acting President was leaving for City Market were he launched his campaigns in readiness for the forthcoming October 30 presidential election.

Mr. Banda, who first toured Kanyama Clinic before going to City Market, was received by scores of Kanyama residents and MMD party members.

Some MMD party members and some Kanyama residents chanted slogans in support of the adoption of Mr. Banda as the MMD party presidential candidate in the forthcoming October 30 presidential election.

I expect at this point for a positive result (reduction in prices), while at the same time the result not meaning an automatic triumph for RB in the elections. Watch this space

Mealie meal has been increased from K50,000 to K53,000 per 25 kilogrammes and fuel price has not been reduced (K9,640) yet it has gone done on the international market from US$I47 to less than US$100 per barrel for the last six months.     The urbanisation process is the cause of this. GRZ must make rural areas attractive for them to effectively deal with such problems. The rural dwellers move to town in search of Jobs, healthcare, Education and inquest for the promises of ‘town life’.

    This overstreches the service delivery of the local Authorities. Services are planned and implimented based on projected populations.
    Unmitgated urbanisation is the cause of this ‘Artificial congestion’ and incapacity of in urban centres.

    Shanty townships represent the most vulnerable population because apart from lack of basic services, the proneness to disease is much higher and as such perpertuating and exacerbating the situation.

  99. When I watched people chanting (on Muvi TV last night and this morning) “SATA let’s go”, I feared for the Acting President’s security. Women at the clinic were almost charging towards his entourage. Mabenga looked embarrased. I did not see Katele although he is mentioned here (Perhaps he was hiding like Peter in the Holy Bible for fear that some one would say “Even this one is with RB”)

    This shows that people are not interested in the low interest rates, low inflation rates, low exchange rates etc but flow of water from their taps, food,medicine, low fuel cost and other practical things.

If we reach a stage where we carry buckets to give birth and some says our economy has improved is in a state of total lack of brain function!   195. It feels good to have an interesting topic once again. Yesterday while going for work my car jerked and finally stopped. I had run out of fuel. I had forgotten I needed to change my refueling policy of 20pin a day in view of the increased fuel prices. I was upset with myself. I briefly abandoned my car so I could get some fuel. I took longer than necessary when I got back cops were all over my car trying to toll it,giving the excuse that they thought it was an abandoned vehicle.   231. No 88 has false information. The last electoral contest in Western Province was Mulatimila Ward in Kaoma in June this year. MMD won followed by ULP, PF was a surprising third and next was UNIP. Bringing up the rear with a mere 74 votes was HH’s UPND. Clearly UPND cannot hope to carry Western Province. Any right thinking person must agree with this. To butress your argument that even intellectuals support SATA is simply missing the point.
