Hichilema files in his nomination papers

United Party for National Development president, Hakainde Hichilema has successfully filed in his nomination papers for the october 30 presidential elections.

Mr. Hichilima filed his nominations before chief Justice, Ernest Sakala, at the Supreme court on Wednesday.

And Mr. Hichilema has called on the electorate to vote wisely in the coming elections.

He said people should not vote on the basis of party and tribal lines but should vote for the best candidate.

The UPND leader told journalists that people should vote for the best president who will be able to take the country forward.

There was jubilation among the UPND cadres as their leader successfuly filled in his nomination papers.

Patriotic Front leader, Michael sata, filed in his nomination papers on Tuesday.

MMD candidate, Rupiah Banda, who is also acting president will file his papers on Friday.

Zambia is at the moment heavily divided on tribal lines and any leader who fails to observe this problem is out of touch, if I may borrow Obama’s terminology. Leaders must address real issues and from the days of Chiluba tribalism has become a real problem and ignoring or pretending the problem is not there will not solve the problem. Even here on the blog where there are educated people we have seen comments like “that tribe will never rule Zambia”. Our leaders have a duty to treaty tribalism with the urgency it deserves just like AIDS otherwise the country will end up dividing into provinces.

  409. is it really posible for zambians to vote not based on tribal grounds. first of all lets look at history and precedence set before us. honestly speaking lets call a spade for a what it is. tongas are known to be highly tribalistic that is snot to say n other tribe is but when you lok at the degree to which it is practised the variation between tongas and lozis is quiet high compared to other tribes.
