Rupiah Banda Refutes K15 million claims

Acting President Rupiah Banda today refuted claims by opposition National Revolution Party (NRP) former Secretary General James Lukuku that the party received K15 million from him to endorse his candidature.

Speaking to Journalists shortly after his visit to the ACC, Mr. Banda said it is not possible for anybody to buy leadership in Zambia.

Mr Banda paid a surprise visit at the offices of the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) in Lusaka.

Mr. Banda who is the MMD candidate for the 30th October Presidential by-election, praised the ACC for its tenacity in fighting corruption and assured the officers serving under the organization that their jobs would be safe under his leadership.

Speaking when he addressed management and staff of the Commission, Mr. Banda said Zambia should completely get rid of corruption in order to attract more investors.

He said investors would want to invest in a country where they know their investment is safe.

Earlier, ACC Chairperson, Justice Valentine Chileshe assured the Acting President that the commission will work harder to reduce corrupt practices in the country.

Justice Chileshe said so far Zambia had improved its ranking from 9th to 17th position on the radder of corruption in the world, adding that the Commission was determined to reduce the levels of corruption further.

  10. HH sponsors a good number of UNZA students. HH also paid for the high cost UTH ward transfer fees for the two UNZA students who were shot by the Zambia Police and their treatment.
    HH took relief food to flood victims when we ahd rain season sometime in March much much earlier than DONOR-GRZ aid did go. HH has alot of Business partners. HH has helped in sponsoring traditional ceremonies.
    Lastly but not the least, HH wants to empower all Zambians regardless of race and tribe so that us all can be economically independent like he (HH) is. Vote the UPND’s HH for real cahnge and hope that all Zambians can believe in.

  410. Though we havent read the story in detail we have to wonder why such an act was not reported to the ECZ or even ACC at the least…why was it rushed to the POST?

    We however, suspect that there could be some truth to it though, because the accused has also not threatened to take any legal action against the accuser.

    Overall this accusation does not add to the integrity of the MMD candidate rather it portrays him as being of the same ilk of politician we have now grown tired of.

Zambia has got some of the longest and most beautiful rivers in the region. Not only that-Zambia is landlocked.     Each of these parties have got candidates; RB, SATA, and HH respectively.
    Each of these candidates has got campaig teams.

  440. Please note that one has not legally entered the contest before they lodge their nomination papers and are accepted by the Chief Justice.
    So, until today Friday whatever RB could have done was not campaigning. He could pay as many people as he wants before today but that is not illegal. So guys and girls get your facts right befre you start accusing peole of theft. I also hope that Mr Membe as a newly admitted lawyer will help the Post newspaper.

  441. On the other hand anyone who has publicly denounced him as corrupt or a thief until today is liable for malicious slander or libel. As things stand at the moment, Mr Sata, Mr Hichilema and the Post have a prima fascie case to answer for libel. This is one good reason why Lusakatimes.com and LT have thi disclaimer at the bottom of the page.
    Bear in mind that what is said needs to be false to sue for slander but not necessarily so for libel. It might be argued that what is said is of ‘public interest’ but where the law provides that all are innocent until proved guilty, I do not see how these gentlemen will extricate themselves out of this.
