Information Minister, Mike Mulongoti, says there is nothing wrong in offering financial assistance to small political parties.
Mr. Mulongoti who is also MMD Elections Chairman says small political parties have in the past approached government for financial help in running their affairs.
He told a media briefing that the MMD gave the New Revolution Party K15 million after it’s leader, Cosmo Mumba, requested for financial assistance.
According to Mr. Mulongoti Dr. Mumba had sought financial help to enable his party participate in the forthcoming Presidential election.
Mr. Mulongoti said it is sad that certain sections of the media want to politicise the assistance given to the NRP to help it file in nominations for the presidential elections.
He also said Dr. Mumba presented him with an K80 million budget to help him hold rallies around the country.
The Minister further said Dr. Mumba had been phoning him for a long time to help him secure an appointment with Acting President, Rupiah Banda, so that he could endorse his candidature.
An official of the New Revolution Party was quoted by the Post Newspapers recently as saying his party was paid K15 million to endorse Mr. Banda’s candidature.
But Mr. Mulongoti said this is not true as small parties have been assisted before.

MMD has blocked HH’s rallies in north western province on grounds that RB will be in the area but RB is at high court filing his nomination. Reports are that HH was expected to draw big rallies and MMD picked the info through ba shushu so they have banned HH’s rallies and cancelled all his police permits for rallies in north western province. RB is now grip with fear, it appears he is even scared of his own shadow. He saw himself in the mirror and screamed “Where have these Men in Black come from”. He forgot it was his image.

OPPOSITION PARTY COMPLAINS
The National Democratic Party (NDP) has launched a formal complaint to Electoral Commission of Zambia over some negative media reports on MMD presidential candidate, Rupiah Banda.
Secretary General, Charles Kafumbo, says the negative reports on the Acting President are affecting his bid for the position of republican president.
Mr Kafumbo told ZNBC news in Lusaka on Thursday that it is unethical for any media institution to exhibit unwarranted hatred against a particular candidate.
He called on media houses to offer balanced coverage to all the three presidential candidates.
Zambia goes to the polls on October 30th, in a presidential by-election, following the death of Presidebnt Levy Mwanawasa on August 19.
The contest is mainly among three candidates, Rupiah Banda of the MMD, leader of the Patriotic Front, Michael Sata and UPND’s Hakainde Hichilema.
Mr. Banda is also the Acting Republican President.
