The Acting President Rupiah Banda has kicked off his campaign trial in Northwestern province with a pledge of of opening up oil fields in Chavuma district.
Mr. Banda assured Chavuma residence that with the help of God, he was geared to ensure that the oil fields in the area were opened.
He disclosed that foreign investors were already in the country and were prepared to start oil explorations in the district.
He disclosed that the Energy minister Kenneth Konga was not in his entourage Saturday afternoon because he had rushed back to Lusaka to finalise paperwork with foreign investors.
He further said he was ready to continue the fight against poverty and complete Mutanda Chavuma projects started by the late President Dr Levy Mwanawasa.
Mr. Banda also said that his administration was prepared to open up new coppermines in North Western province.
He said the mines will create more jobs for the Zambians so that their lives can be improved more than they have lived so far.
He further pledged to expand schools so that more children will be provided with space.
The Acting president said he will ensure that more medicines are provided to the remote parts of the district.
He was speaking during public really at Chavuma welfare ground Saturday afternoon.
He urged the people to vote for him in the forth-coming 30th October presidential by elections.
The Acting President pledged to use the vote to save the people of Chavuma.
He said he has experience and ability to do what he says he will do for Zambia and will deliver his promises.
Mr. Banda said he was grateful and happy with thunderous welcome accorded to him by people of Chavuma.
He said having saved under the late president Mwanawasa he was told to care for Zambians.
He said he was aware of the grief and pain that the people of Chavuma went through when they heard that the president had died.
He said Zambians are going to remember him as a great son of Africa and a good leader.
He recalled how the late president called him from his retirement at his farm .
Mr. Banda said although he was old at 72 years, he was still willing to save the people of Chavuma and Zanmbia in general.
Speaking at the some function Information Minister Mike Mulongoti appealed to people of Chavuma to give Mr. Banda the some votes they gave the late president.
MMD Chairman for information Benny Tetamashimba on the said the late president had confidence when he appointed Mr. Banda as the acting president when he left for Egypt.
And district MMD chairman Warrece Liana appealed to the Acting president to continue with the developmental projects left by president Mwanawasa.
Mr. Liana said the late president promised to tile Mutanda Chavuma.
He further said the electricity traffics were too high beyond the reach the reach of citizens.
He said electricity should be extended to other parts of the district and also appealed for early farming imputes and continue the cattle restocking exercise.
He however, stated that the poverty levels were growing strong in the district.
Acting president is accompanied by Information Minister Mike Mulongoti, provincial minister Kenneth Chipungu, and local government deputy minister Benny Tetamashimba Home affairs deputy minister Grace Njapao.
He was received at the mosses Lunta grounds by the Provincial executive chairman James Katoka, former Permanent Minster Richard and provincial and senior government and part members.
The acting president also attended the Likumbi Lyamize traditional ceremony, will also hold public rallies
Tomorrow he is expected to hold similar rallies in Kabompo and Mufumbwe districts. He will also visit some copper mines in Solwezi before he return to Lusaka..

RUPIAH Banda is a desperate old man resorting to desperate measures which he does not even understand, responded Post editor Fred M’membe to the Vice-President’s injunction to restrain him and The Post from publishing defamatory editorial comments against him.
M’membe said the injunction which Vice-President Banda had obtained was the simplest for The Post to obey because it restrained the newspaper from publishing any libellous words against the Vice-President.
M’membe said The Post has never published anything libellous to Vice-President Banda.
“And this being the case, the injunction amounts to nothing because it allows us to continue to publish everything that is true, althoug

We will only be found to have disobeyed this injunction order if we publish anything that is libellous to Mr Banda and this is a matter that has to be proved by facts or evidence in trial. It is not a matter that can be determined without trial,” M’membe said. “For us everything continues on the same basis and we will publish everything that is truthful and that falls within the ambit of fair comment on Mr Banda. And in this way we will obey the injunction order.”
M’membe said if Vice-President Banda thinks that he will escape public scrutiny through The Post by this action, he was cheating himself because that is not the way things stand in issues of l
libel.
He said there was no way the injunction could stop The Post from writing editorial comments on Vice-President Banda and his campaign.
“There is no way this action will stop us from writing editorial comments on him and his campaign – not in this country. He should go to some other fascist country with draconian laws, not here in Zambia. He should go to Zimbabwe where he was born where, maybe, such actions can be entertained. If he thinks the law in Zambia will protect him from honest criticism, he is cheating himself and whoever is giving him this advice is also cheating him,” he said.
M’membe said Vice-President Banda could only survive such criticism through conducting
a clean campaign.
“The only way he can survive such criticism is to conduct a clean and honest campaign and stop dishing out sugar and mealie meal like a ‘sugar daddy’ to the electorate. We have never seen this type of foolishness and misguided libel action,” M’membe said. “This is really desperation of the highest order. Mr Banda is cheating himself.”
Vice-President Banda is seeking to obtain an injunction restraining The Post from publishing or allowing publication of libellous words against him.
According to ex-parte summons for interlocutory injunction taken out by Christopher Mundia on behalf of Vice-President Banda, he wants The Post restrained from publishing the running edi
editorial comments defamatory to the plaintiff namely that he is a crook, a criminal, unreliable,
untrustworthy or words to the like effects or publishing words to the effect that he is not a person who is trustworthy to he elected President.
“The defendant should further be restrained from publishing or further publishing or permitting or causing to be published the same and/or similar articles against the plaintiff until after the trial of this action or until further order,” read the summons.

116, OPPOSITION Heritage Party presidential candidate Brigadier General Godfrey Miyanda has admitted that he sweated for this nomination.
And Chief Justice Ernest Sakala on Friday declared that Brig Gen Miyanda, UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema, Patriotic Front (PF) leader Michael Sata and acting Republican President Rupiah Banda had validly filed in their nomination papers as presidential candidates for the October 30 presidential election.
Brig Gen Miyanda struggled for about four hours to mobilise the 200 supporters, who are registered voters, required to back a presidential candidate before he or she files in the nomination papers.
Brig Gen Miyanda, a former Republican vice-president, was supposed to file in his nomination papers at 14:00 hours on Friday but only managed to do so about 17:55 hours the same day.
The first group of supporters arrived before 14:00 hours but very few had voters’ cards and National Registration Cards (NRCs) hence they could not endorse his candidature before the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) at the Supreme Court.
Brig Gen Miyanda and senior party officials panicked to mobilise supporters but whenever a bus bringing supporters arrived, there were few or none with both the voter’s card and NRC.

What the have to do is explore or search for oil. This is just campaigning! When the Americans say they want to drill ofshore, it’s because they already have the estimate of oil reserves. How do you open up oil fields when you don’t know what is beneath the ground? Creation of employment of well trained geologists is what is needed to do exploration or find oil.
