Lundazi Zesco clients seek compensation for damaged appliances

Share

Several Lundazi residents, whose household elctrical appliances worth millions of Kwacha were destroyed following a sudden rise in electricity voltage, are now demanding compensation from Zesco.

Group spokesperson of the affected Zesco clents, Mary Mkandawire, who is a civil servant and district chairperson of the Zambia Congress of Trade Unins (ZCTU), complained to ZANIS in Lundazi that since their electrical appliances were damaged on Saturday, September 6, 2008, Zesco has not compensated them, a thing they described as unfortunate.

Ms Mkandawire narrated that, on that fateful Saturday morning, between 09:00 hours and 11:00 hours there was a sudden power surcharged on 11kv hospital power line, and named the Farmers Training Centre (FTC), Dunavant Cotton Ginnery Company, Kanjala, Hospital, Zesco, Drivers Compound and Upstairs compound, as the most affected areas.

She lamented that when the incident happened, affected people whose appliances such as conputers, fridges, stoves, TV sets and radios were burnt, they immediate reported the matter to Zesco district manager, only knmown as a Mr. Pumulo, who acknowledged the fault, and advised them to put their complaints in writing.

But the affected customers say they are now worried as they had not received any positive results since they lodged their complaints to the power company last month, adding that, whenever they inquired from Zesco, they are always told the district manager, Mr. Pumulo, is out of Lundazi district.

And when contacted for a comment, Eastern Province Zesco Regional Manager, Aubroad Chanda, said he was aware of the matter, adding that all letters from the affected clients had since been forwarded to the Company Lawyer in Lusaka for consideration.

  4. When power goes switch off all sockets and unplug. Zesco will never compensate, whether under the tribalist HH or the kaponya Sata. You guys are shagged in the East.

  5. “All letters from the affected clients had since beeen forwarded to the company lawyer in lusaka”. Nonsense! why did zesco acknowledge the fault in the first place?

  6. Sorry if I might be out of Topic, but I found this ‘recipe’ from my green grocer after I bought a nice looking pawpaw. You see, I haven’t eaten a pawpaw for donkey years.
(1). x1 pawpaw or papaya,(2)). x1 tin Mangoes,(3). x4 passionfruit, (4). Brown Sugar. Cut up fruit and put into dish and pour cream over it, leave in fridge overnight, next day sprinkle some brown sugar and bake in oven until crisp brown, serve with ice-cream.

BAKE PAWPAW?????, I haven’t tried the recipe though.

  7. 4 # SEXINA!!!! Thats not the way to treat your brothers and sisters. Pray for them so that their case goes well and they
get compensated. Money is hard to come by. What am not sure
of was this after load shedding or what? Sisala wanamutima wa chiwangwa!! A Chiuta Mupeniko wa munofu. All these things are
happening for a purpose. For us to open our eyes when voting so that we choose credible people.

  9. The problem is that in Zambia people responsible for something wrong never resign because of poverty until their contracts are terminated or retire. Can some one at ZESCO show that they have failed and resign and try peasant farming and start using a solar pannel because there is no power at the farms either.

  10. Lusaka Times, nivichi kansi?Ma topic yamala olo muyembekeza vinyake vizenge?Nyengo yamala weh.

Do not understand the language?Ask Thanks-Tionge

  11. sorry for wat happened!setrect speaking the system used in zesco are 100 years behind.Any fault has to be detected & controlled at the transformer thru fuse isolating it btwn service line.with modern nanotechnology things are repaired electronically.vote wisely next time it ll be hses.try to use plugs & extentions with fuses never connect direct to the wall socket.

  12. Imwe a Nyamukandawire mukukhumba Zeskolo yibalipilani mose nteura? Zeskolo did not do that out of neglegence. You should know that Zesco in in maningi problems. Gulani waka ma TV yanyakhe.

  13. THE WAY ZESCO IS CURRENTLY OPERATING LEAVES ALOT TO BE DESIRED. THEY PUT UP A LOT SHEDING SCHEDULE THEMSELVES WHICH THEY FAIL TO EFFECT. WHY IS THER SO MUCH DOUBLE STANDARDS IN MPLEMETATION.THE SCHEDULE IS SUPOSED TO HELP THE CLIENTS BE INVOLVED AND BE ABLE TO PREDICT ZESCO ACTIONS. REALLY EVERY THING HAS GONE TO THE DOGS. WE NEED A CHANGE OF MANAGEMENT IF EXPECTING A GOOD SERVICE
YOU WON’T BELIEVE IT IF I SHARE OUR EXPERIENCE HERE IN LUSAKA, NOT FAR FROM THEIR HEAD OFFICE, WE CAN NOT WATCH NEWS ANYMORE BECAUSE THEY CHOOSE TO LOAD SHED BETWEEN 16:00 AND 23:00 AT NRDC RANCH/NGWERERE AREA. WE DO NOT EVEN KNOW WHO TO VOTE FOR AS WE ARE NOT INFORMED ANYMORE. ORDINARILY LOAD SHED SHUD BE SHORT

  14. CAN YOU PLIZ WARN THE ZESCO GUYS THAT WE WILL TAKE THE LAW INTO UOR OWN HANDS BECAUSE WE ARE PAYING THEM TO GIVE US A SERVICE AND NOT TO BE ABUSED. RIGHT NOW SEVERAL OF MY ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY DISRUPTIVE POWER.
I THINK I SHUD ZESCO TAKE YOU TO TASK , BUT THATS A WASTE OF TIME, TIYENI TIYAMBE CHABE KUBAMENYA CHABE LIKE IT SO HAPPENED TO THE NURSES AT U.T.H

  15. please adada it is time you invested in over or under voltage protection devices.yaliko ku EML.DO NOT JUST BLAME ZESCO that is your obligation to protect your ka katundu at home.

  16. #19 I AGREE WITH U.ITS EITHER THE DOGS HAVE COME TO ZESCO OR ZESCO HAS GONE TO THE DOGS.KSQ STG2/CHAMBA VALLEY LOAD SHEDDING IS EVERYDAY FROM 5:30AM TO 22:00PM.ITS NOT FAIR AS THINGS ARE ROTTING IN FRIDGES AND MOREOVER WE ARE MISSING OUT ON CURRENT AFFAIRS.SISALA HAS FAILED TO RUN ZESCO….SHEMUNAAAA

  17. Good luck, a few years ago Zesco did the same here, I received a letter saying it was my fault as my house was not earthed and my neighbour received a letter saying it was not their fault, because the electricity they supplied that day was from Victoria Falls, so not their responsibility!! What a load of rubbish!!! Not worth the effort arguing, they have no money and if they pay you, then they have to pay everyone.

  18. mwebana chipata ukupwalala tulemweba ati voteni pabwato all this nonsense will cease wen sata comes, bati mulifye dwiiiiii na chi RB fine tell RB and see if any action will be done. mulimbe
