More load shedding coming

Share

Zambia must brace itself for more load shedding following the break down of two power generators at Kafue Gorge and Kariba power stations.

The two generators have a combined installed capacity of 315 megawatts.

ZESCO Senior Public Relations Manager, Monica Chisela, says generator one at Kariba has developed a fault and was shut down on October 7 for maintenance work.

Generator four at Kafue Gorge power station with a capacity of 165 megawatts also developed a fault on first October and was consequently shut down.

Mrs. Chisela says this means consumers will experience enhanced load shedding contrary to earlier promises that power cuts will reduce significantly this month.

She however, notes that ZESCO limited will be able to repair the two generators in the next two weeks.

Mrs. Chisela also says the inter-connector between Zambia and Zimbabwe will be re-connected in the next two days.

  1. Southern Africa shall continue to suffer power shortages for the next 20 years. We were warned many years ago.

  2. sounds like we lack some skilled man power.
something says we need some expatriate technical help and urgently.
put our pride where the sun dont shine and get the help we desperatley need.

  3. POOR PLANNING..THE RESULTS OF POOR PLANNING..WHAT DO U EXPECT WITH TETA,MULONGOTI,MPOMBO, AND THE LIKE. I DONT SEEM TO APPRECIATE WHAT LEVY SO IN THEM. WELL ITS CALLED POLITICAL EXPEDIENCE..ITS JUST A GAME POLITICIANS PLAY WHILE THE POOR HARDWORKING CITIZENS SUFFER. WELL I GUESS WE SHALL CONTINUE SUFFERING AFTER ALL CHALIBELELA

  4. number 6 dont say that. u sound like you have lost hope. thats one thing no one can ever take away from us. change is the only thing that is constant. dare to believe then u will achieve.. i know that sounds cliche but there is truth in it.

  5. Pa Zed ni pa village. Load shedding in this day and age. Imagine if there was load shedding in Canada, head would roll

  6. i dont understand how these chaps operate, they keep overhauling the same generators.at the cost of taxpayers. why not ask Alstom or G.E for a long term solution, rather than give the chinese and indians for half backed jobs we are tired the Monica and your Rodney sisala. no wander sisala was chased from CEC by his own directors. we are tired.

  7. Awe mwandi this load shedding..Manje ni baula nafuti. Its so annoying.Isn’t there ANYTHING that can be done??

  8. # 6 the power is in your hands, the card. vote wisely. chuck those bastards out. with Robie Mwansa there was sanity in Zesco not the way it is now. Vote wisely. Rabson mwansa is in TZ doing the biggest dam in the region. they dont have a power crisis there. its only in Zed where things are badly managed. every thing is run like Faulty Towers. hang on in there ma brother.

  9. Sisala is wrongly placed at Zesco, these re problems left by Levy, the problem with that man is that he never appointed pipo on merit instead he just planted his relatives and friends in all key areas. Thats why we need Pf to come and sweep. Vita Pabwato

  10. # 8 iwe illegal immigrant who cannot even come back to Zambia to bury your own brother because you will be arrested and wont go back. Get over yourself for making a bad decision to leave the country. Chibolya where you were living was better than the dingy neighbourhood you live in on 200 dollars a week. Shame.

  11. People welcome to “Advanced Election Rigging RB 1.1” were power cuts or load shedding just appear during a crucial time when electricity is needed since election results will be transmitted electronically in just under 3 weeks from today. What does that say about the would- be correctness of the election results that are supposed to be communicated via wireless and information systems. What about the biometric information system, how is that going to work without power? Do people understand the implications on a computer system that is supposed to transmit the election results? Has ECZ taken into consideration the coming power cuts? Do they have alternative plans in place?

  12. Is ZESCO part of the grand scheme to have RB in power by cutting out electric power during this ‘New Age Election’ of using computers, the internet, wireless technology, Geographical information Systems, Biometric technology and satellite information communication systems?

Is this the death of democracy or rather, have we ever had democracy in the first place? Is this just about RB winning or is there must more to this ‘new age era’ of digitising everything? Who stands to gain from all this? Could there by a hidden agenda?

  13. Nonesense. Indeed the entire ZESCO team should be fired. I would want to examine the maintenance records. This is management failure at its worst.

  14. Last month SA requested for more power from zambia which we are already suppplying. Am not surprised to hear this. Zesco was probably reqested to double the power export and in view if the untimed by-belections expenditure, govt couldnt refuse the offer.

  15. Dr Kaunda advised to Dr Chiluba during handing over to repair and build more generators for obvious reasons. But FTJ opted to ignore all projects which were left by KK.No wonder ZED shall continue suffering load shedding. Its all bcoz of Kafupi.

  16. Sisala should be sucked or constructively resign.we are tired of this rubbish at so many years vof independence.

  17. # 8 – why is that we are always in a hurry to compare our country with developed Western countries ? The fact of the matter is that we are a developing country and we have a problem at hand that needs to be addressed.

Can anyone enlighten on whether any of the Presidential candidates have bothered to outline how they are going to resolve the power crisis that looms ? They seem to be more busy with pointing fingers at each other and/or bribing

  18. The power problem shall soon overwhelm us. Only 20% of urban dwellers and 3% of rural dwellers have access to electricity in Zambia. We have increased power consumption without increasing capacity. Most Sub-Saharan countries are facing the same problem because we have not invested in infrastructure for the past 15-20 years.

  19. In a budget address of the mid-90s, then finance minister the late Ronald Penza introduced a rural electrification levy. Zambians have paid that tax for nearly 15 years now. We need know how those funds have been applied.

  20. ZESCO is reconnecting Zimbabwe at the time when two generators are down? Whats wrong with these chaps?!

How well have they been maintaining the two generators and how old are they? ZESCO should have foreseen such problems and prepared for them adequately. Sisala’s group lacks ability to plan.

  21. IMWE..WHAY CAN’T U JUST BE HAPPY THAT THE GENERATORS ARE BEING FIXED EH…U TUMA SAME ONES ARE THE 1ST ONES TO CRITICISE BUT WHEN WE GIVE U THE JOB U MESS UP EVEN WORSE..STOP HATING AND START HELPING AND LETS MOVE 4WARD AS A NATION!

DO U THINK THAT PLACES LIKE THE US AND EUROPE WOULD BE WHAT THEY ARE TODAY IF IT WASNT FOR SOME KIND OF UNITY..I TELL U BLESS YOUR GOVERNMENT (WHOEVER THEY ARE) AND THEY WILL BE A BLESSING UNTO U..BUT CURSE THEM AND YOU TOO WILL BE CURSED…ONE ZAMBIA!

  22. Do the root cause analysis on the failures on these units and improve on preventive maintenance.

We are sick and tired of this ZESCO fire fighting mode. It is Affecting business pa ZED.

  23. the more reason we need to make sure our votes are not wasted vote HH for emproved electricity supply , conditoins of living
these morons are so irritating chi RB , dirty schemes of politics………..

  24. The only solution is to kick MMD out of govt & all this will be sorted out…..whoever is voting for MMD has got no foresight and is as corupt as RB.

  25. The loadshedding is good for our political decision it has really helped some of us who didnt know who to vote for but now we know that the pre-occupation this time is not to vote for someone in but to vote the MMD out because they have failed. loadshedding is as a result of poor management of resouces. Let Gen.Miyanda & HH take advantage of this coz Dr Bill is besides you guys we nid a change

  26. Us in Kabwata, power goes everyday as early as 05.00 hours sometimes three times in a day no timetable for loadshedding now whats this nonsense they are talking about. Yes we just have to kick MMD out of Government. This is rubbish. Sisala must resign on moral grounds

  27. Oooh no! more of this load shedding? mwankala ma savage ba ZESCO. are you telling me Sisala and this present government never so this comming? same na kubala bana pamene ulibe plan. Fire that Sisala and get rid of this MMD. viva HH

  28. Its high time we thought of alternative energy sources and increase the number of hydropower generators. We have enough hdroelectric potential in Zambia. We tap on it.

  29. What we need couragerous leaders,ZESCO is a sharm they have failed us period, we fail to keep the less than 10% electrified. 30 Oct vote wisely lets put in power pipo that have the love for Zambia in power, look out for fox in sheep’s clothing like RB and Sata.

  30. I am anti-Sata and anti-HH. Brigadier is a lost merchant so na talk about him but it will be a very big disgrace on the people of Zambia to have that shrinked face in Rupiah Shrek Bwezani Banda as our president. Lets vote wisely and give a better fool the vote. Either HH or Sata.

  31. # 7 Change Seeker I fully agree with you. What we need now is change. Change, Change, Change. We are in dire need of change. Plz Zedians let us not lose hope. Let us work hard on 30/10/08 and make sure that we change this government no matter who comes in power as long as it is an opposition party.

  32. we are now tired of your unending excuses. Energy Regulation Board has to be resolved for us to have fresh brain in there. Otherwise we still face the same problem over and over again.

All what is needed is change of GVT. PABWATO in & MMD out. not otherwise, even rigging this time around will not work.

    PABWATO

  33. These baggers have failed how many times are generators going to break for gods sake and whats the type?
We need answers because this is a failure on management the earlier we resolved this the better.Sisala out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  34. People – we must be serious. In Kitwe, Natwange East – Loadshedding is from 16hrs – 23hrs and 05hrs to 12hrs on a daily basis. There is no one home when we have pawer during the day. When we get home after a days works – there is no power, then we go to bed – power comes back. So what time does one get to use power??? Yet the billing is ever the same – Fixed rate non sense. Surely better planning is seriosly lacking. It is un acceptable…..
Look at changing management. This is unfair!

  35. The power cuts will be there at counting ballot papers. It is more likely boxes will be swaped – All political players should take this as a warning and buy lantern lamps, candles ect etc.,as alternatives

Where is the money coming from to pay the image builders for RB?

  36. Whoever comes in power should first deal with the power problem, obviously that means dealing with Sisala. This problem is surely affecting the economic performance of the nation as production has to be brought to a halt from time to time. This is unacceptable!

  37. ZESCO BUSY SELLING POWER TO SOUTH AFRICA WHILE HERE IN ZAMBIA DAILY LOAD SCHEDULING.KWENA I WONDER WHAT IS HAPPENNING IN ZAMBIA.EVERYTHING IS BAD,ROADS,WATER,SUGAR SHORTAGE NOW ELECTRICY

  38. The time ZESCO replaced these generators they bought them from China instead of the originals thay previously used to have from Yugoslavia though it no longer exists as a country. A long term solution must be found coz we r tired of the same old story of brocken generators

  39. ZESCO is full of jokers.Guess they get paid hefty perks and all they can deliver is darkness. What frustrates more is that despite the load shedding ,Bill still come high. And their popular excuse is “we don’t Know!”Surerly, this level of mismanagement is representative of the current govnt.gettting paid for delivering darkness, poverty, hunger, unemployment and lies.
Change is inevitable for both govt. and ZESCO management.

  40. To blame zesco ONLY is to be short sighted. It all boils done to lack of planning. you dont have to be smart to realise that all our leaders lack planning. look at our roads, or lack of them, our schools…and a lot more. we never plan for the future. zesco should be an eye opener. the question is WHAT ARE WE DOING ABOUT IT?

  41. Like i said yesterday, what do we expect when we’ve been electing mediocre people to office, and for exactly that reason we are facing this problem…..but it’s amazing that stupid zesco and this sisala guy can’t even load shed equitably,i will vote for anyone who promises to fire this incompetent excuse of a human being….
wake up people of zambia…..if they rig we should do what ukraine did….there is no way we will accept that RB joke to continue the so called levy’s legacy….just look at what this has left us with….
    poor mother zambia…..

  42. the power problems are as a result of poor forecasting.
if the managers of Zesco new the capacity of the infrustructure they were working with they would have had some solutions by now.
i dont refuse that this is as a result of increase in demand. but how come they never forsaw the increase in demand. i think its because they are not up to date with the development taking place in the country. they should inform themselves and do every thing to stay in touch so that they do their jobs accordingly.

  43. When we swear in RB on Nov1, we’ll start cleaning out the Mwanawasa family tree, starting with SISALA…to be follwed by Shakafuswa, Mbula, Shikapwasha…..

  44. l really think the way the loading is allocated is unfair, you find that certain places dont are not even affected by loading whilst others are affected through out.l think it should be balanced coz pipo out there are affected badlt by it.What is MMD government doing about it? Even if am not voting, l dont think ld vote for MMD..am an affected person of loading…these pipo are spoiling pipos electrical items.

  45. zesco must reveal thier maintanance management system to the zammbians so that we advise.a big company like zesco must employe engineers to sort out the load shedding and not trusting the craft certificate holders just because they have experience.

  46. #64 Its true I stay in Kabwata. Half of Kwabwata have electricity 24hrs a day and 7days a week whilst the other part of Kabwata dont see the electricity. Can load shedding please be done equally. We are all Zambians who should suffer the proplems together. Zesco please do not divide Zambia. Monica Chisela please explain why Kabwata is divide.

  47. Anynomous I did not know you are this smart. Can you show this smartness even in the timing of voting. I say so coz we share a lot in common. You sound to be more technical while I’m also a Technician In particular a computer Techinician with Degrees in wireless and web designing. Chao man I would also think there is a hiden agenda behind this.
