ECZ Indaba to address electoral issues

Share

The meeting scheduled to take place today (Friday) in Lusaka at the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) is expected to address various electoral issues, ahead of the October 30 presidential election.

ECZ Chairperson Judge Florence Mumba told journalists here (Durban) shortly before departure for Lusaka on Wednesday that the meeting which the Commission has called for participating presidents and their officials would touch on a number of electoral issues to ensure a smooth election.

ZANIS reports that Judge Mumba who led the Zambian delegation in Durban to witness the printing of ballot papers at Universal Printing Company (Uniprint) among the issues to be discussed would include the electoral code of conduct and the result management system.

On the result management system, Judge Mumba said ECZ would explain how election results filter in from the polling stations after polling and counting of the votes.

She also said complaints received from political parties participating in the election had been attended to by respective complaint committees set up by the Commission.

Judge Mumba said she was happy with the way the complaints had been resolved and that more issues would be addressed at today’s meeting.

And the ECZ Chairperson has disclosed that the Commission has acquired generators to avert possible power outages during the electoral process and to ensure continued vote counting.

Judge Mumba said any problems that may arise would be due to human error and not because of ZESCO power black outs.

‘’Where there will be problems it will not be because we didn’t plan but because of human error’’, she explained.

Turning to participating political parties, the ECZ Chairperson hoped that they had trained their polling agents for them to be conversant with the electoral system as they were the eyes and ears of these parties.

She assured stakeholders that the playing field had been leveled hence they had to play their part as well.

Meanwhile, Judge Mumba has implored voters to turn out enmasse on October 30 and participate in polling.

Zambia is holding a presidential election this month following the death of third republican president Dr Levy Mwanawasa in August.

  1. It is easier to chase a hungry hyena with a stick than to try and panel beat RB’s image. The former is instinctive bravery and the two young men have my deepest sympathy and praise for protecting their animals and their lives. The latter is foolishness of biblical proportions arising from greed and I have only contempt for RB who like the hyena is stealing our money and property to panel beat his irretrievable image. Come 30th October, Zambians should use anything they can reach for to chase the thieving hyena called RB.

  2. What about this rumour that VJ is in SA where the ballots are being printed. and all of a sudden we here that some people were bribed and in the end more ballots were printed exceeding the number of registered voters. isn’t this a scheme to RIGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGggggg??????????????????

  3. we hope that ecz will take action against the abuse by the mmd of closing schools and ferrying kids to their rallies. also the use of grz facilities in the districts outside lusaka. they sholud also destroy all templates after the printing of ballot boxes to avoid vj from printing more as he is in south africa ready to pounce.

  4. Imwee y should you print 4.5m ballot papers when the number of registered voters is far less than that.We do want a situation where people that died will be pasting in voting.Abash rigging ,viva HH

  5. Why allow Rupiah with his fellow retirees use taxpayers money to campaign, besides they are getting allowances for campaigning which is ridiculous

  6. Go for it. vote wisely and be part of the new dispensation. look around you and find out whom you should vote for. never mind the name (s) but make a judgement to the best of your knowledge. Wah! what was VJ doing in RSA at a time when the ballots were being printed. remember what he did in Zimbabwe???

  7. Sakwiba Sikota is a good politician. He has put his interests aside to support someone else. If Sata and HH could unite, they would win this election. But because of their selfish interests they are losing this election again.

  8. i think sikota like ben tetemshimba are losers. though they say politics are like prostitution, these are too much.they behave like old aged pros, dont mind them.and about Sata, hes the man, it’s only disappointing that my people in solwezi are a let down, how possible is it that they are the only ones that dont want change.we want change , mmd has had its time, and worse still Mr Banda in UNIP and MMD.Lets see what ba shi chilufya can do.
