Did mysterious illness really originate from Zambia?

Share

Zambian health authorities are not convinced that the causative agent for the mysterious illness is the  deadly “rodent-borne arenavirus” identified by South African experts as no cases of the illness have been reported in Zambia.

Zambian authorities are seeking a second opinion from laboratories in the US and Japan.

On Sunday, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases said the virus has been found in rodents in Africa, but has not previously been found to cause disease in humans — other than in West Africa.

Dr Canisius Banda, a spokesman for Zambia’s health ministry, said: “ Though it is good that they have identified the cause of death, it is also important to note that we have not seen a single case here or a record of a death.”

Investigations began after an office employee of a safari tour company in Zambia died on September 14 in a hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa, two days after being transferred from Zambia.

Cecilia van Deventer, 36, a South African who was resident in Zambian , contracted the virus and infected paramedic Hannes Els, who accompanied her when she was airlifted to the Morningside Medi-Clinic.

Banda said: “We are expecting results this week. We also tested blood samples of Van Deventer at the University of Zambia. Tests were conducted for the Ebola and Marburg viruses, and these came back negative.

“All the contacts who interacted with them [Van Deventer and Els] a month ago are healthy so far.”

Dr Robert Swanepoel, of the special pathogens unit at the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, said the types of rodent that carry the virus are not found in urban areas. He said that it was likely that there were rats on the smallholding, outside Lusaka, where Van Deventer had lived.

Dr Simon Miti, the permanent secretary in the Zambian Health Ministry, said that no other cases had been reported.

“It is still quiet here. We have checked all the places the woman [Van Deventer] passed through and no one has presented with any of the symptoms or died with similar condition. Out of the 12-million Zambians no one has presented with these symptoms,” Miti said.

  1. Very bad PR on the part of SA Health authorities, always blaming others in such situations. Can a disease originate from a country where no other case has been recorded? I hope Zambia is vindicated after all the tests are done.

  2. I really doubt if this so called mysterious disease originated from Zambia, however, there is a posibility that it could have come with people travelling from South Africa to Zambia and back.

But am really sure that this disease came from South Africa, because we have never experiences such awkward diseases in Zambia before.

Therefore, my Apeal to the Ministry of Healthy is actually for them to appoint experts to probe this Disease before things get worse.

  3. i strongly believe that, the diseae did not materialised from Zambia and the South Africans are busy saying that, the disease started from here….for once these people are destroying our beautiful name and in the proccess alot of people wont be coming here…please the health people do something and correct the situation before its too late…awaiting for a quick response,God bless Zambia…

  4. Bt th woman hu died 1st was admimted at CFB clinic in lusaka..js tht mayb th pipo in sth africa we nt cautious enof.

  5. This whole thing is now making some sense. The lady must have contracted the disease form an animal as she is in wildlife.

Smart though I hope they don’t mention the safari tour company otherwise it will be out of business!!

  6. Shame on them. Wise men are from the East. Mbewa has been our recipe for Ngoni and related generations. Kaya ci mene adya muzungu you. You know adventurous these people are!

  7. Private clinics in Zambia are on a money making venture. Her disease could have been ‘created’ by one of the clinics she frequented in her last days.

  8. Nobody has died of this disease in Zambia Please.A man of God has even concelled a trip to Zambia i feel he has little faith in God, because a man of god is not supose to fear Death

  9. the fact that we have not had any such cases in the Zambians has been sure proof that it did not originate from Zambia – how could it be?.
and #9 please can you zip up your mouth and stop creating stories that might grow big. authorities have done all the can to varify the origin of this disease and have answers to your delima and manje ukamba matuvi yako. mukamwa kuipa, styopet.

  10. #9 AMAKA MUNGELI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! keep quite before you create a bad name for Zambia and Zambian Medical System. Kwata amano mwaiche – Mbuzi.

  11. Didnt these guys say it was Congo fever? Too bad she used to walk barefooted with her animals. Am really sure the disease is from animals.

  12. The Disease is definitely not zedian because non of us died and if you really read the research that has been carried out, the west African Rodents that are responsible for the said spread of the disease!!!!

However, am meant to think there is something more to it than we have known so far, for how long have these rodents lived among humans and we have never experienced such a thing!!!!

    SATA FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!

  13. There is no prove whatsoever to say that illness originated from home.Thy better find a cure or all this will hit them than ever before

  14. WELL YESTERDAY I SAID ALTHOUGH SOMEWHAT NOT LIKEABLE BY MANY OF THOSE STILL COLONIZED, THIS LADY EXPERIMENTED SEXUALLY ON THE ANIMALS, BELIEVE YOU ME!!!!

  15. Zambia’s name should be cleared as in my view the disease did not originate from here, cos we could have witnessed more pipo dying of the same in zambia within this short time. Simple diseases like cholera claims lives in zed, what more this mysterious illness if it were in zed what would have happened? SA is just trying to clear itself, mind you they have the world cup to protect so if such diseases are being reported , they could lose out. Pliz SA control your disease and cleare our good Zambian image. TD Jakes opted to stay where the disease is(SA) thinking that its from Zed, too bad!!!

  16. Here is the what hapened, that white lady ,got sick after being bitten by a tick from one of the horses , while playing polo in mazabuka. the horse are said to have been brought in from ZAIRE [congo] thats wee it all started. so the virus being zoonotic was transimited in that manner.

  17. I think south africa owes us an apology, they should have waited for more conclusive evidence before they started pointing fingers.
From the start i knew this would turn to be total bull and in fact just added to their misunderstanding of what they were dealing with coz they got lazy to do their job rightly….
even if the virus came from a rodent in rural zambia, this lady’s life style was pretty careless..i mean ,walking bare footed…in the 21st century, why would you wanna do that….

  18. Typical of South Africa – they are the worst xenophobs ive ever come across – what have we ever done to these people to deserve ridicule and scorn all the time – they owe us their lives and i hope there is a South African reading this right now, thats right, you owe me your life!!!STOP THIS NONSENSE SOUTH AFRICA LEST WE START RETALIATING – AND ZABMIA, WAKE UP AND START DEFENDING YOUR DIGNITY!!!BE PROUDLY ZAMBIAN

  19. #9, though you have apologized you should receive the beating because that was a very stupid comment. Do you know how many people check out what is said at this place? If you, a Zambian, can be saying that what will non-Zambians say? Dont get over excited nga mwakwatako ka 50pin mwaya muCafe! You should aim to build when posting your opinions here. Grow up!

  20. HO PLS, GOD HELP US. AND I QUESTION THE SO CALLED TD JAKES INTENTION OF WANTING TO COME TO ZAMBIA. HOW DOES HE REALLY HEAL THE SICK IF HE CANT GET TO WHERE THERE IS SICKNESS. Give us a break mr pastor and your dreams you claim are visions. PABWATO bane……

  21. Hey #30 how come your Id has changed today, its Cex1 yaashani ulikoo bad…catch me on the other said if its you!you know where!!!!Am WAITING!!!!

  22. An Englishman would probably respond to the question as follows – ‘of course not, stupid’! However, being a princess (me) I will say ‘no dear, the mysterious disease did not originate from Zambia. It started from South Africa by their very own Van… something.

  23. This disease still remains a mystery (?); I think they know by now that it probably originated from Morningside Medi-Clinic. Its like the casualties were hospitalised for something else (e.g. malaria) but ended up contracting the disease in question right at the hospital in question?

  24. THIS XENO….. SA ARE MBULI CLEVERS, THEY KNOW THAT 2010 IS ROUND THE CORNER AND WANT TO DENT OUR BEAUTIFY COUNTRY SO THAT ZED DOES BENEFIT THE 2010 WORLD CUP IN TERMS OF TOURISM. MALABISHI XENO

  25. #23 I think you are sick in the head. If you admire animal sex, do not dirten our image by accusing people without any proof whatsoever. You are a fool.

  26. Reona darling (#27), what’s kicking babe? Good to see you get hot and sweaty for something. Hate to spoil the party, but that woman was resident in a place called, errr let me see……….Zambia. Oh me gosh! So they didn’t fly her out of China or Mexico, no?

You can bleat all you like, but disease does not respect person, nationality and such superficial crap. Take Shetani (#23) for instance. He has written his name all over the place because he has nothing better to do. Same with viruses. If they find a weak host, ni sangwapo mudala!

  27. What is this thing with Shetani and this Cex1 thing, chi Shetani i thought you where smart and you would know that this guy is pulling a prank on you yaabaa shallow minded indeed, tell me if you succeed with your mission or whatever it is!!!

As for the Disease NOT ZAMBIAN FOR SHO!!!!

  28. The best the government can do is ask for an apology coz our tourism venture will suffer and for this we shud introduce strigent measures for people travelling from south africa and blow this trumpet louder than them to balance the equation if they are not going to apologize. They think zed is dirty and evertime i board a SAA plane from lusaka they spray their so called disinfectant while travelling from south africa, they dont, foolish zuluz

  29. It is called Bestiality!you know there is also Necrophilia and you think all these things don’t happen they do my friend that how low some pipo can sink.#39 count your Blessings Name them one by one its your lucky Day coz am lucky….

  30. #43 thats a good observation, but GRZ is stupid, they allow any monkey into zed without taking a measures thats why we’re so vulnerable

  31. This disease is bad but again I doubt the investigative intelligence and facilities in our health centres and the quality of record keeping. If any common man has died of the same, it’s very posible no records are there and no investigations were done. imagine in rural areas is it possible to diognise if the UTH and ministry of health are refering to WHO for the same mysterious disease?

The consolation is God protects us Zambians from such calamities because it could wipe us out completely going by the current medical standards and facilities we have.

  32. The Zambian Health Authorities dont have info, they have no capacity. They are just guessing that its not from Zambia. There is a good chance that it is from Zambia only that you guys eating rats and other rodents are immune, you are probably just carriers of the bloody illness. Dont just deny things, Mulongoti style. Wait till an out break erupts and you will be wishing you had taken this thing seriously.

Why should you send results to be validated in the USA? That shows that you dont know what you are doing. We should have invested in state of the art labs which would be authoritative for the results you produce. The South Africans know that they are speaking from a scientific basis.

  33. Mr Sata addressing a rally in Kasama recently:”epo mfikile pano nshufwile po unyele icisushi pantu muli ne nsala elyo tamwikuta!”
That is representative of the syntax of the PF language! If u dont know how to insult u r out of place at PF!
What do u think of this #17 SPECTATOR?

  34. a lot of things beings said in Zambia. HH can you please redeem us from this. We need real change in Zambia so that even the world can also value us. Why everything is being pointed to Zambia is because of our way of living. Poverty levels are too high. Can we also join our friends who are living better lives. Go HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Go

  35. UFO #49 Are you Zambian? There are times I have critised our government but not on this nonsense. What was the b*tch doing in Zed as an office worker any way? Kising dogs and all that! lol!

By the way, you people should forget this rubbish of walking bare feet. We have millions back home who wak bare feet. No excuse as far as I am concerned. They live with bogs and treat them like human beings. They are people who we know can do anything.

Remember that idi*t who was jailed for “doing” his dog and got it on tape which he accidentally lent to his neighbours?

  36. #49; Even the South African Authorities had to send their samples to USA; Its common to do that in the analytical world as it is something to do with QA / QC procedures. I still do not think the disease niyapa Zed; Its internal matters within SA!!!

  37. Have respect for the dead, for all those saying she was sleeping with an animal. She was just a victim of a mysterious disease just like you could be let her soul rest , it was not her wanting to die so early or to get sick with that disease. Watch what you say God is watching YOU!

  38. In Zambia this disease is till being called a mysterious disease! What does this show? That you have no clue what you are dealing with. If we had capacity we would have isolated the causative agent and analysed it in detail. In veiw the Health Authorities have behaving very unprofessionally. This is the age of information, you cant just say the disease is mysterious. If you dont know what it is how do you look for it?

Standards in Africa are low and they are worse in Zambia. No matter how deep you bury your head in the gound the situation will not change. Come the Rain season and you will see all sorts of funny diseases breaking out.We have cholera every year for the last 20 years.

  39. #49,please dont belittle yr own Zambian Health Athorities, bcos they are well informed, learned & for your information, Zambia has produced some of the highly specialised doctors in Africa and in the World. Why do you make us look like we are the worst in Africa yet there highly industrialised nations who are even worse than us. In the Ministry of Health, they do Surveillance which monitor diseases like measles, tetanus, leprosy, meningitis, cholera, rabies, dysentry, bilhzia, Viral haemorrhagic fever, yellow fever, plague to mention but a few thereby producing weekly Epidemiological Reports. surveillance units are in all 9 provinces of Zambia & so this disease would have been dictated

  40. from our health centres or hospitals if it was there. dont think our doctors and nurses are daft, they are actually doing a very commendable job. Government institutions are the places to go, after all when you are critical and about to die you are rushed to UTH by the same private clinics who fail to handle your situations.
Ndiwe chi STYOPET chabe iwe who seem not to know what you are talking about. All these statements you are seeing are being issued by the Ministry of Health and dont think your papers are digging dipper.

  41. UFO; As long as the first casualty was a South African national resident in Zambia; I have a lot of doubts agreeing with the notion that the disease could have originated from Zed.

One wonders if the first casualty a black Zambian from somewhere near Ntumbachushi, some Zambians would have been quarantined upon arrival (?)

  42. The purpose of democracy — supplanting old belief in the necessary absoluteness of established dynastic rulership, temporal, ecclesiastical, and scholastic, as furnishing the only security against chaos, crime, and ignorance — is…

am sure #52 you heard wrong and in Pf that is not our nature!!!!

    VIVA SATA!!!!

  43. #67. U.F.O. is right. In SA, over 11 people who where believed to be contact with the ill were quarantined. Did we do anything of the sort here in Zambia? No! Imagine if this disease had manged to infect one Zambian, say at C.F.B. It would have been an epidemic of epic proportions. Zambians, we need to change our attitudes towards health. You’ll never know when something serious hits us. This was a close call. Next time we might not be so lucky. I recommend you read about the Spanish flu and the Black Death.Just google them and read, so you can understand the danger of such a disease.

  44. #40 Sinjoko…good to see you being civilised today,i asked that question yesterday to engage a convresation, but believe me,am way too smart for your type…..
Zambia doesn’t have the making of producig some weird desease, there is just no such enabling environment here….they should have pointed fingrs at congo it would have made sense….it’s Leona by the way,not Reona….
    #48, i hear you….spot on…….

  45. The mysterious ilness surely needs serious investigations. The rodent part of it is somewhat suspecious as no such cases have yet been reported in Zambia. Loooking at the common Kachemas we have in the villages, most of them go on bare foot in the bush despite the bush having plenty of rodents but none of them have aquired this disease. This woman cecilia must be investigated carefully in terms of recent past movement in and outside the country and establish the exact point of infection if there are to acertain the true truth of this issue

  46. Vote for Shetani ! Those extra 600,000 ballot papers have his mug shot and an ‘X’ next to it! Vote Shetani !!

  47. Zedians in Zed, lets joke and laugh and share constructive views and also protect our country at all costs. We are in Zed and of course some Zedians have gone and they now look as Zed as malabishi chabe. most are saying ku Zed insala, ku Zed ifiko, ku Zed ifi nefi, shamuna bene!
#67, that patient at hand was at CFB and evacuated from there (apamwambas of course) how did you expect the government to quarantine her. Did the medics at CBF consult? no and the lady deteriorated while in SA.

  48. so let me get this straight, a south african living in Zambia got this illness in Zambia, did not infect any Zambian, then she went to SA and infected the people there. these fima boers and xenophobics owe us a major apology

  49. I think the SA Government should have used “mysterious disease suspected to have originated from Zambia” instead of the definate statement being highligted.

  50. This C.F.B. is useless. They charge so much money just to tell you that its only a flu, when in fact its a mysterious illness. I wonder how many ordinary Zambians have died this way after being misled by greedy and useless doctors. It had to take an apamwamba muzungu to die for us to know what was going on. H.H. for president. He is the only one who can change our lives meaningfully…

  51. #83; I agree with you and the South African national in question might have traveled to risky (health-wise) before she eventually got bed-ridden. Talk Radio 702 in Jozi reported that the disease takes time before it eventually manifests in people.

And what if she was a loved breast-feeding (sucking?). She could have contracted the disease from the hidden body fluids we rarely see?

  52. Who knew the man of God’s faith could be tested with a simple unsubstantiated rumor? And then you wonder why I have no regard for these guys (TD jakes, Benny Hin etc). Simply put, these guys are businessmen. Remember the drama Benny Hin caused in Nigeria about money? Go well man of God and heal those afflicted with flu in the USA. Am sure that’s your specialty.

  53. Sorry for being vague Osama. Let me clarify. The MMD in Zambia have neglected health care in research. With good health infrastructure, we would have been able to identify what happened to that woman. To me it doesn’t matter where this thing came from. What matter’s is how we are able to control it. Looking at what happened, our health system is totally incapable of containing such an epidemic. This can be attributed to poor policies by our leaders. When voting on the 31st, i need to consider which candidate will provide the best health care plan so we can all be safe. From what i have seen and heard thus far, only HH has given a comprehensive plan on health, among other issues.

  54. #91 ok he has the plan,we all have plans you know.the question is does he have the rite pipo to implement those plans?

  55. Stupid RSA, we have become an appendage of them. KK had said it. The nation we hate to love. They abuse us, we still love them. We need to start to be independent of this nation. A disgrace.

  56. he can’t endorse, he wants to be the ka silent voice of confusion but azaonekela muzeke KK ana chaya ka open arrangement!!!

  57. When one is sick, it is possible to contract another disease during your sickness as diseases are not exclussive when they come on our bodies.
It is therefore possible that this patient may have come from Zambia with a different disease but caught this mysterious disease right in south africa. So the disease may have originated right in South Africa except it pounced on a patient who came from Zambia with different illness.

  58. Most of you folks are detarched from reality. I am on the ground, i know what am talking about. I work with medical doctors and I know their woking conditions. UTH is supposed to be the premier medical institution in Zambia, but it is not coz the infrastructure is not there. All theatres are so dirty that paitients get septemia from there. Go to UTH and you will be shocked. You have people sleeping on the floor in the wards and still say our healthy system is ok.We do surveillance yet when you go to the health centers they dont even do tests to confirm their diagnosis. You constantly ferry people to south africa for treatment and still say we have capacity?
    Remeber the Depro issue?

  59. The answer is yes Osama. There are people like David Matongo and Patrick Chisanga, unheard of yes, but truly dedicated to the cause of our country. Also, president Mwanawasa showed that you are not restricted to work with people from your own party. People like Sylvia Masebo and Ngande Magande did not belong to the M.M.D. And rumor has it that they are behind HH. Let’s vote wise country Osama. I’m not saying vote for HH, but see the facts and see who is telling intellectual and workable things. Nothing is impossible.

  60. ok though am pf i must admit our party is full of kaponyas. look at the mps in kitwe, musenge, mulojas, willie nsnda, all kapoyas who stoop so low as to pik up prostitutes.what a shame

  61. How can we vote for HH who is making false promises with full understanding that what he is saying is not workable.
He promises free education up to University and free medical services knowing well that only less than 20% of zambians earn incomes (most of which are also below food basket) can such sustain his promises?
HH, please you are aspiring for leadership be serious. For SATA we can excuse him based on the fact that he may not understand economics, but not you HH. How do we excuse your violation of macro-economics.

  62. it is sad with the way south africans think of zambia.the day they talked about the disease many SA were not free with uszambians.its nice that the disease is not there in zambia.or bali ibika pali AIDS RELETED DISEASE

  63. i wonder if Jesus would have cancelled his trip to Zambia! Anyway, jakes is a “pastorpreneur”, its all about money for him. faith is doesnt mean much

  64. For the ignorant out there the van Deventer family is prominent Lusaka Afrikaner family. They have farmed in the Lusaka area for at least the last 60 years and are well known in farming circles as well as bowling circles. The van deventer family have represented Zambia in bowling at the Commonwealth Games and other international events. The lady in question may not be Zambian by citizenship but is certainly Zambian born and a Zambian resident. As for the disease, this is more likely a one off. She may have come in contact with a rodent that bit her. For the records rodents are not just rats even rabbits are rodents !!!! She could have caught this anywhere !!!

  65. Imwe it does’nt really matter where this disease originated from. An epidemic is not restricted to borders, so South Africans and Zambians alike are sitting in the same boat. In the end, it aylways goes into the medical books as an African tropical virus.

  66. How can we have two candidates in a small place like mbala at the same time asking for votes

RB and SATA are both in Mbala asking for votes and right now there is comfusion in Mbala.

Guys plan and RB stop following the boat coz you can`t compete with SATA.

  67. SATA is also with the chopper and RB is also with the govt one and right now Sata is addressing a rally and RB is scheduled to address the same small community of mbala at 14:30 today.

    No lunch for mbala residents.

  68. 114 so what is your point? Dont tell it was all about kaHistory lesson! Its not about who she is but the fact that in SA media the picture is that there is an outbreak here, are you with us all you are xenophobic as well?

  69. iwe ponyax where are you getting that info, mbala in northen……why cant he go elsewhere kanshi. ala ubwato is treading on dangerous waters

  70. PLIZ ZAMBIANS DECEASE FROM EATING CERTAIN THINGS. NINSHI. TOO MUCH NSALA OR MAYBE ITS JUST TOO MUCH APPETITE. TRY OTHER FOODS OR BETTER STILL BE LIKE SOME OF US WHO EAT FROM RHAPSODY. A LITTLE KWACHAS WONT KILL U. MULATUSEBANYA SANA WIT YOUR RECKLESS EATING HABITS.THANK YOU.

  71. osama mwaiche am ponyax and dont doubt me.

RB could not hold his planned rally in kasama today coz the all district is on the boat.
Naishupa mwaiche wandi he will also die from BP

  72. Its high time that zambians stood their ground.Zambians have been used by senegalese, malians, congolese.Currently Nigerians are doing their rounds at the expense of zambians. We managed to fend the Zimabweans but even worse now the Chinese are having a field day in our country while we stand aside and look.
A significant number of zambians were victims of Safrica’s xenophobia now we are being accused of being a deseased country. Can someone out there please start respecting zambians.Remember when LPM got unwell the thenSAfrican president announced without checking. Now they have again announced without checking the facts and our tourism is meanwhile surfering.Check the kwacha today.

  73. not only anything that breaths, they have some plastic manhood which only needs cells to be recharged. When it comes to sex, never seen a Race that is so crazy bout sex, think they whorship it as well.

  74. She must have been carrying out some experiments with rats! These bazungu are full of experiments. I’m sure the experiment went wrong somewhere and she got some infection from it.

  75. can somebody there in lusaka tell the south african high com to apologize to zambians for they careless talking about zambia without checking.it is affecting bussnes with zambia or anything to do with zambia.

  76. The rodents we eat from the east are good, thats why it makes no sense to say the disease came from rodents. If it truly is from rodents, then try eating them. May you become immune by hummering them. I’ll teach how to prepare them Gossip…

  77. IMO South Africans are dull. My interaction with a number of them has been very disappointing. However, our health authorities should get to the bottom of this and clear the air.

  78. The SA chaps want to clear themselves by tainting the image of Zed. That disease is theirs. They have now scared off the false Prophet T.D. Jakes.

  79. #128, 136 ubututu! dont you know mbeba iwe ka styopet. be african be real and be proud of what you are. ngamwalya ba frog ati its okey and you give it a sweet name to make it sound better. ninshi ama keeping up appearances? iyo muli batutu. abasungu balya fresh game meat and we enjoy it in dried form and all that am sure is an issue with you guys abroad. i feel sorry for you guys who have left your impoverished homes in Zed and being haunted by your backgrounds pantu ninshi mulechula sana nemitima.

  80. Biological Warfare at Work! All these viruses and germs were developed during the Cold War. The idea was to wipe out the Black Race, but on this one it has boomeranged…

  81. The problem with the zambian authorities is they want to come out all diplomatic lets call a spade a spade this disease doesnt seem to come from here. Now can someone tell us where this lady lived in the outskirts of lusaka so that rodent’s in the area can be captured and tested

  82. these whites are very stupid. Obviously they came with it from South Africa and started making claims that the disease originated from Zambia. South Africa wipe out your unknown disease!

  83. #149 am proud African , but not too proud to an extent of eating dirty rodents.some advice please, don1t waste your money on paying for internet service in some internet cafe.leave some change for some fritters for abana ku nyumba cause i have a feeling that u rely on minimal wage.

  84. Spare the people their heritage you s…. or sorry i dont swear. you must have been long gone, when did you ever hear or know of Zambians esp from Eastern eating roddents. ngamwalya frog ninshi chawama – imported habbits.
please leave my family out of this because bululu ninga ku sungu pa Zed. You zip up your mouth and go to bed, because you dont know what you are talking about. mudya galu ninshi chawama?!

  85. SORRY CANT GO TO SLEEP NOW.AM GOING TO DINE AT RHAPSODYS.BET YOU ARE EVEN SCARED TO GO HOME.NAMUPWISHA MPIYA.ATI BAMUNA ATA

  86. #156. Anonymous, you sound dull. Your sentence and logic are not making sense. You actually seem to be describing yourself. Only cowards post anonymously.

  87. Aaaah so Anonymous is GOSSIP GIRL – ULIZOBOLI FYE IWE. Bwaila Nomba kachongeshe baku peleko iya chicken and chips nangu pizza.
    very sorry for you!

  88. I have have spoken several times about this anonymous or is animosity! The Dude thinks he knows even what he doesn’t. Wemukuly kuliboneshe? How do you say all that trash about someone you don’t know? You are more than dull!

  89. ya! if you gat cash spend it how you want but dont tell people what to eat because your choice is not their choice. mulei mwanesha fye pretending to be living very well yet musanfya fye imputi sha bakote. i doubt if you even have the papers to live abroad or even have a permanent job to give you that kind of living that you are pretending to enjoy. bring issues not that kind of cheap talk…. you are the same guys who come back home as cargo with money contributed from Zed. if not you fear to come back due to lack of papers! for how long?!

  90. #43 GRZ is stupid i do agree with you. they say that spray is recommended by WHO. if you are driving into SA yo have to get out the car from the Zim side and walk on a sack filled with disinfetant but from bots, there is nothin like that. again i say GRZ is stupid coz they dont control who comes here and wht they come with. they lady who died had cerebral Edema. what ever that is there was no disease

  91. Princess, your highness (#167) I am disappointed. Even you (of all people) are in denial about this simple thing? Cecelia (the late) was resident in Zambia and was flown out of no other country than Zambia after unsuccessful management of her illness. This issue has nothing to do with nationality, but is about the fact that we are all human beings who are equally susceptible to to all manner of disease. Would you prefer they said she was flown out of (take your pick) Russia? There is nothing to be ashamed of here. But if you insist, please remember that “patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel”. Surely not you!!!!????

  92. Do you know where the virus is coming from, zed .sa og wastafrica, maybe it comes from your home ,how do you know. This virus is not nice for the nation.look into it and think.if this virus is not from zed than be happy and i hope it not from zambia.thanks.

  93. Before tamula koncluda Ku Zed. Ngufweniko panono.
The Issue with South Africa is to get all the Safari credit they can. And I mean tourism, many tour operators are south Africans, on SABC I see an advert about the falls and southern Sun is advertising it. It seems of the places you can see in Republic of South Africa. the Vic falls is one of them! When you querry some people they say it’s just two and half hours by what? plane? POfcourse by plane but our ignorant tourists don’t know that why you need a visa it’s because the falls is in another country! South Africa wants the lions share, they will say don’t travel to Zambia, there is a health risk stay in South Africa.

  94. South Africa will wreck other SADC countries economies whilst they gain. I am in South Africa and one guy today made a stupid comment about Zambia I intend following it up with his station manager. It’s sad that they decampaign other countries economic sector. Whatever Zambia did to South Africa if its football governement should try and sought out. South Africa issues ill statements against Zambia. They are always looking out fo their good. They drag their feet with Zimbabwe because the situation is giving them economic foothold over other countries.

  95. #172. Got a point. This is the second time I have heard that Mosi-O-Tunya (Vic) Falls is advertised as being tourist spot in SA. Vic falls is part of their tourist package. The unsuspecting and uninformed tourists fly 2 L/stone, Zambia thinking they are in South Africa. Is this an official agreement between the Zed and SA govt that Vic falls be advertised as SA hot spot? Could the Ministry of Tourism Zed or someone from the OP kindly check out this and inform the Zambians what is going on. Promoting self interest cannot be underestimated by SA. They are busy empowering themselves as a nation. A wake up call 4 Zedians. Promote tuma small business home. Source of Rodent disease 2 be known soon

  96. Gossip Girl, nkalako serious. I dont want to be petty but it explains why you were charged for an abortion when you gave birth. I rest my case.

  97. I BLAME THE ZAMBIAN GOVT FOR ALL THIS NONSENSE GOING AROUND. THE PR IS PATHETIC, THE COMMUNICATION IS ALWAYS LATE . WHEN ARE WE EVER GOING TO RESPOND IN TIME? IT TOOK ALMOST A WEEK TO GET A COMMENT FROM THE ZAMBIAN AUTHORITY WHICH BY THEN WAS TOO LATE AS THE PRESS IN RSA WAS CRUCIFYING ZAMBIA EVEN DENYING THAT TH WOMAN WHO DIED WAS ZAMBIAN. ALL THIS TIME OUR GOVT WAS SLEEPING AND EVEN WHEN THEY SPOKE IT WAS NOT CONVINCING.

  98. #172 criminal mind and #177 Sosa I totally agree with you.Its not only vic falls that these people are claiming to be in SA its all the lodges too. If you try to get info on tourist lodges ets you are always redirected to a South African website and asked to dial South African numbers.Perhaps the ministry of tourism decided to privatise zambias tourist hotspots also! Wake up zambians this nonsense just has to stop.

  99. ….most probably the 1st victim contracted the disease from the Hospital where she was admitted to in South Africa and the Hospital officials are just trying to run away from that fact

  100. We have a very weak national propaganda wing in the country. If the disease did not come from here the propaganda wing must make such noise to clear our name. If we fail to make that noise then know that our tourism industry that has known some growth is in danger. As much as the politicians are busy campaining they must not forget that there political will is needed here.We only have one Zambia and it must be protected.

  101. All what you say comes from a lack of knowledge,Miss van Deventer was from what I heart a lovely careful woman who died to young. She was seriously ill before she went to SA for treatment, but could got the disease from a Congo horse used for the polo tournement or on the wedding she went to in SA,its not originally from Zambia or Zamians are imune for it,she did visit many people before she went seriously ill, shame on all you who talk bad about her,I hope this is not representative for the majority of Zambian people,it will be my first trip and maybe also the last to Zambia if people really are full of hate, its not a black/white thing, not SA versus Zambia.its about human life.
    One love

  102. Yes Zambian health authorities were slow. Infact the lady who died had attended wedding in RSA where she got sick and she is south African but they are not even mentioning this in RSA.
