Rupiah Banda announces 75% fertiliser price reduction

Share

Acting President Rupiah Banda has announced a reduction in fertiliser prices from K200, 000 to K50 000 for a 50 kilogramme bag of the commodity.

Mr Banda said that the measure is meant to encourage more farmers to engage in agriculture activities this season.

Speaking when he addressed a mammoth rally at Kasama’s President Park this afternoon,(Wednesday) he said 200, 000 farmers will be targeted to benefit from this year’s Fertiliser Support Programme.

ZANIS reports from Kasama that the Acting President also opposed the proposed increase of trade licence fees for marketeers from K185, 000 to K400, 000. Councillors across the country made the proposal a month ago.

He advised marketeers not to pay the proposed increase should it be effected until the matter has been discussed and resolved conclusively.

At the same rally, Mr Banda assured Kasama residentsin Northern Province that he would uphold the rule of law once elected president.

He warned that he would not tolerate anarchy and will deal firmly with individuals fomenting trouble in the country.

Mr Banda said his aim was to promote unity and peace in Zambia.

He further pledged to work hard and woo investment in a bid to open up Northern Province in mining and other activities for the economic benefit of the local people.

On the Kanchibiya by election results, the Acting President congratulated the Patriotic Front (PF) for scooping the seat but advised PF leader Michael Sata and his party to congratulate and accept whoever will win the October 30 presidential election.

Mr Banda started his campaign trail for Northern Province on Monday and has since held rallies in Mpika, Isoka, Nakonde, Mbala, Mpulungu and the last public rally was in Kasama this afternoon (Wednesday).

Those in Mr Banda’s campaign team comprised former Vice President Nevers Mumba, United Liberal Party President Sakwiba Sikota, MMD’s National Party Chairman Michael Mabenga, MMD’s National Secretary Katele Kalumba who just joined the campaign and Deputy National
Secretary Jeff Kande.

Others part of the campaign team included Commerce Minister Felix Mutati, Isoka East Member of Parliament (MP)who is also Community Development Minister Catherine Namugala and Mbala MP Gunstone Sichilima.

The A/President is expected back home this evening

  1. I was about to log off but this one caught me. ‘Ninsh ni election fever’ Ba mwine b4 passing on idicated that it would not be pssible to reduce since we were trying to stabilise. Sooooh we are reversing….’pink panther strides backwards’ ha ha ha ha aaah!!!!

  2. Dear me and this guy is supposed to be an economist? This is what I call Desperado. Who os going to cover the difference or is it that the MMD govt has always over charged us? And How long is this reduction in effect. I think it is time to do an arbitrage. I’ll organise my big truck and mop the market and hope to sell back after elections at just 10% profit

  3. Twa papata we don’t want fake promises! it seems everything will be done when MMD wins??????
    Bufiiii.
    Ni pabwatooo chabe!

  4. AHHH pliz! napapata, what manner of desperation is this sure! pliz buy the fertilizer and vote HH, he’s a farmer by the way so he understands the importance of Fertilizer. our Mbuya RB we’ll only remember the importance before electionsin 2011. Sata we’ll just sweet talk you and you all wont even have a voice if he wins. Thank God he’ll never be president in Zambia !!!!

    GO HHHHHHHH !!!!

  5. #11 am sure they’ll give you a flag eventually but don’t be surprised when you get a flag for a country different from where you are blogging from (as with mine)and a few others.

  6. “Acting President Rupiah Banda has announced a reduction in fertiliser prices from K200, 000 to K50 000 for a 50 kilogramme bag of the commodity.” How come there is this serious reduction in Fertiliser when 1 USD = K3850 now as opposed to 1 USD = K3200 when late Mwanawasa was still alive?
Is there some cheap politicking which is now making the ECONOMY suffer by investors looking elsewhere as reported in the other thread about the Kwacha and Economy?
Magande and BOZ governor, what is happening to our economy and how is reponsible for the downward path we are experiencing?
Viva HH for Zambian President, Given Lubinda for Zambian Veep and Micheal C. Sata for Prime Minister.

  7. did anybody see what felix lwipa puma, deputy health minister, said about the ministerial salaries a few days ago? ili lyashi talilapwa. if rb wins, they will give themselves humongous salary increments that will even dwarf what they proposed to give themselves. zambians muchenjele nabo ba mmd. even the fertiliser story, balemiikata fye mumenso.

  8. RB is bringing GONOMICS to Zambia! The same Gonomics has failed to work in Zimbabwe. Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Gideon Gono has now resorted to prnting money on bond paper. Owee mutule uko. BaCaleb landenipo if this is possible.

  9. Ubu bushilubu nomba. This why Africa is Africa. He has the powers to do whatever he wants.Guys this is beyond politics now. This id*ot should face charges seriously.

Someone tell me please, if you are a dealer who bought this fertiliser to sell and gain a profit what happens? Is he just yapping like we have seen before?

  10. We will enjoy the reduction while holding on to the candidate with a viable vision and thats HH. I wish all days where campaign days, I can liken this to a family where children become uncontrollably happy when there is a visitor not because they like them but because the diet will improve, shame on you!
Pliz lets not waste time, just park your belongings coz time is not on our side.

  11. It amuses me to see that a lot of you will support you prefered choice when they say they will give these things out for free. As an economist i would say reducing the price is better than giving away for free you are subsidizing as compared to handing out freely and barring the cost. In my opinion the more desparate people would be the ones coming up with ideas of 90 days sorting out things not in this day and edge with the credit crunch.
I for one do not agree that fertilizer should be given out for free not even the cars for chiefs this is encouraging laziness when people are meant to be working had. Evolution is almost reaching its end why should we go back to recreate the past

  12. #24 Thanks

Farmers buy as much as you can meanwhile you know who to vote for come 30 oct. Elo na Kwacha yapwalala pa zed nalatuma nendalama ya Fertiliser

  13. Who determines the market price in our economy? Though am not learned but production cost coupled with the issues of demand and supply, inflation levels and other economic indicators are crusual in any price determination. Only susdies will work but why now? Only them know better……

  14. One thing that I have come to understand during this campaign is that a lot of prices of items in zambia are too high due to deliberate uncaring attitude by the govt. If fertiliser can be reduced by 75% it means our country is poorly run. However I know that production cost of fertilisers is more than what RB is promising and I wonder what has gone into his head.

  15. RB has reduced fertilizer by 75% why can’t he reduce mealie-meal by 75% aswell since it seems he can do anything inorder to be voted.

  16. RB/MMD seem to be in a panic mode.Promises, promises but why now ? Even Zesco has been drawn in.I wonder what RB will promise next.Is it all LPM’s vision he is following ? More like an illusion to me.

  17. WHY NOT REDUCE FUEL? THE MAN WANTS RURAL VOTES HE KNOWS HE CAN NOT WIN IN TOWNS. ITS TOO LATE. VIVA HH A CHANGE WE CAN TRUST AND BELIEVE.

  18. I just called my parents where they live somewhere in the bush that they should not vote for RB. We want permanent solutions to problems, not election day solutions.

  19. RB maintains lead, Sata makes inroads in urban areas while Northern Province becomes a major swing area in the October 30 election.

The October 30 presidential race has come to be between two grey-haired age-mates – they are both 71 years old – acting President Rupiah Bwezani Banda and Michael Chilufya Sata. Both are former Lusaka Urban District Governors in the administration of Dr. Kenneth David Kaunda. Both have strongholds. But at this stage at least, Banda has the lead – Executive Issues

  20. Nangu kubwesha umutongo from K200,000 TO K50,000, this is total madness and cheap campaign strategy by Sugar dady. RB is not fit to be president he has failed to use his experience in governance to campaign properly and convince the people that he can be a good president instead he is showing us our corrupt he his.
    pabwato ze BIG.

  21. ….Banda is likely to scoop the entire Eastern province, parts of Northern and Luapula, Northwestern and Western Provinces. He may trail the winner in Lusaka, Copperbelt and Southern depending on how the other candidates work out their strategies. This gives him a good lead……

  22. …..Another negative for Sata is the protracted wrangle with the 26 ‘rebel’ MPs from his party who defied the party directive to boycott the ongoing National Constitution Conference (NCC), a body that is drafting the country’s new constitution. On September 6, the rebel MPs through their spokesman Dr. Peter Machungwa announced that they would not campaign for Sata in their constituencies. “We shall stay away from the campaigns,” Machungwa said. Most of these parliamentarians are from PF strongholds. Even though their actions and stance may not be universally popular, it could make Sata’s campaign difficult as he will now require to touch almost all the constituencies…..

  23. …We hear some of the rebel MPs have hinted their support of Banda. Sata is likely to capture Lusaka and Copperbelt provinces and some parts of Luapula and Northern. He will trail badly in Southern, Western, Eastern and Northwestern Provinces. Sata will certainly need to do a lot of homework in areas such as Southern and Eastern, which command a sizeable number of registered voters. Without them he is likely to be in deficit yet again. .

  24. BUYING VOTES WITH FERTILIZER…….MMD SHOULD BE ASHAMED FOR THIS ACTS OF USING STATE RESOURCES TO ADVANCE HIS POLITICAL FAILURES.

PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA ARE SMART…ENOUGH OF LIPSTICK DEVELOPMENT WHICH ONLY WORK AT ELECTIONS TIME..

WHERE HAS MMD BEEN IN THE LAST YEARS…RB IS CORRUPT AND COME OCT 30, WE WILL SHOW MMD WHERE THEY BELONG….RETIREMENT.

  25. This is sad and reckless politiking. Nhow, he can chop the prices of everything that sales. And after elections, the reality will come to roost.
    Yangu mutule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111

  26. The move to subsidize fertilizer seems to be ill informed. Its a political motive and not economical and it will not help the agriculture sector in anyway. Actually it may lead to chaos, panic buying, holding of the commodity and profiteering.

  27. Subsidising production is okay but not subsidising consumption and encouraging the kaponya business at the expense of henuine job creation. Ask Sata what types of jobs he intends to create? he talks about stopping the chinese from selling Chitenges. Are those the jobs he hopes to create for zambians? Does he expect University graduates to be selling Chitenge at markets? Please be serious and avoid entertaining foolish peple like SATA. Do you want to be selling at markets in post independence Zambia? Does he know how to transform our raw materials into semi finished products by encouraging SMEs? Ask him and you will realise how empty he is!!

  28. This shows that RB is not ready to be President. The Zambia economy under RB will collapse within less than a year if he were to be elected President and proceeded in this year.

  29. Zambians what an educated out dated president u ll ve shame.Nitrogen chemicals of zambia workers are in years without salaries then someone reduces by 75% fertilizer let these reductions done by market forces or NCZ management.Even a first week economic student cant make such a senseless reduction.Vote for Rupiah mind u inflation in zimbabwe is in trillions us at now.Does Rupiah analyse his speeches???unip on the way instead of reducing economical refugees the guy is increasing.renew passports.

  30. refund them farmers cos maybe you have been stealing from people that re out there to feed the nation.Or is it just a political game you playing? You act a bit more like John,Bush´s brother.

  31. “On the 30th of October, Aza phika Nsima nindani?” asked Vice-President Banda, as the crowd responded: “Ni Banda!”

  32. Blatant bribery of potential voters leaves a very sour taste in the mouth indeed.Who is going to compensate the manufacturers and retailers of fertiliser?

  33. Come on RB, are you sure you are doing the best by sweet talking pipo, lets buy @ 50pin and sell the same in December @ 220pin.. what has called for the reduction in price?

  34. reduction of fertilizer prices is a welcome move!i hope its with immediate effect not just politicking so i cud buy 10 bags for my father and later vote HH!!!

  35. So RB is telling us LPM was useless! why didnt MMD reduce these things when LPM was alive. the kwacha has depreciated and un beliavable prices going down!!! This shows MMD corruption. period. How can you justify all these reductions.

So Magande and LPM were not great people at all according to RB, they were poor managers only that we zambians respect the dead to extent of covering up their misdeeds. I need comments from Zambians.

Is it Sugar daddy’s way of corruption after seeing he is lagging behind and the majority of voters are in Rural areas.
    Zambians any comments please.

  36. HELLO BLOGGERS, CAN SOMEBODY TELL ME THE LIFE SPAN OF FERTILISER. At 75% discount we are thinking of stocking up for two years. Is this possible. Please farmers or chemical engineers lets have your knowledge.

  37. In UNIP there were mealie meal coupons without mealie meal. when theer was mealie meal there were no coupons apart from the Members of the Central Committee who were never having a short supply even when not entitled to get the coupons.
    \
UNIP days of lies and deceipt are here again.Tiyende pamodzi di mutima umo. UNIP tiye, KK tiye. Wamuyayaya tiye, Grey Zulu for Prime minister. Malimba Masheke for Defence, Willian banda for mobilisation and Finance. Atase Zambia sucks.

Zambians any comments on #58 please.

  38. Yebo #58 spot on. RB nyama soya out. Sugar daddy oUt. never, never and never again UNIP to come back to power through back door. forget not even thru front door.

  39. WHY NOW Ba RB?where were you when the farmer where crying?Don’t cheat us with this cheap thing of a talk……………….

  40. #59 spot on. Bloggers you have been warned and armed. lets vote out Sugar daddy nyama soya.

Mphuno ikulu as mpezeni said not me. Then potrait wont fit.

  41. It seems RB has changed his name to santa clouse!!!!! Mwanawasa and his vision left the Fertilizer prices at K 200,000.00. Here comes Santa with a suspicious reduction that has changed the policies and the much talked about proper vision and legacy of the late president Mwanawasa. May his soul rest in peace

Zambians start exporting to neighbouring countries! Cha opener

Any1 btn the two HH or SATA can win!! All i want is change of govt period.

  42. #60 spot on. Bloggers you have been warned and armed. lets vote out Sugar daddy nyama soya.

Mphuno ikulu as mpezeni said not me. Then potrait wont fit.

  44. NOW AKULU MPHUNO IS COMFUSED HE DOESNT EVEN KNOW WHAT HE IS DOING
NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY KK FIRED HIM. HONESTLY HOW DO YOU MMD GUYS HONESTLY PICK THIS MAN. HE IS KORUPT.

    VIVA PF::::::::

  45. FIRST FUEL WAS REDUCED, NOW FERTILIZER I THOUGHT ECONOMICS IS ABOUT COST, SUPLLY AND DEMAND? HOW CAN YOU SELL FERT. BELOW COST???? ZAMBIANS WAKE UP SOON AFTER ELLECTION WE SHALL BE PAYING FOR THE SO CALLED REDUCTIONS. HOW COME MAGANDE IS QUIET CAN WE HAVE MINISTERIAL STATEMENT FROM HIM ON THESE REDUCTIONS?? WHY IS ZMK NOW AT 4000 TO DOLLAR??

  46. Well done RB. Next stop Zesco bills. You are on the right track.Dont listen from non farmers who dont understand what good you have done.Cbelt has appreciated.

  47. This is total nosense, what type of govt is this?Im sure magande is laughing.Does it mean the cost of producing a bag of fertilizer is less than K50,000 and what measures have been put to compensate this move.I doubt RB’s degree in economics, this is cheap politiking.Lets change govt ladies &gentlemen i have no problem between sata&HH but lets give the man of action chance because he has a better position.Iyi niboza no control in govt.

  48. LAST KICKS OF A DYING HORSE. WHERE WERE HE ALL ALONE, THIS IS CHEAP POLITICS AND ONLY THOSE FARMERS WHO HAVE NOT SUFFERED ALL THIS PERIOD MIGHT VOTE FOR HIM (RB), MIND YOU THEY (FARMERS) ALSO REASON AND ARE MATURED ENOUGH.

PABWATO ……… WE WANT CHANGE, YOU CAN SWEET-TALK US BUT WE WILL DO OUR VOTING SECRETLY. PABWATO

  49. Wow, vote RB. Change is comming, next the dollar will 1:1 with the kwacha, the other week fuel will be K 1000 per litre.

We have beaten the 90 days theory.

Ok am MMD but this is politicking.

  50. Change is comming, next week the dollar will be 1:1 with the kwacha, the other week fuel will be K 1000 per litre. Now imagine after he wins the elections. first week mealie meal will be K 10,000.00

Wow, we have beaten the 90 days theory.

Ni ba Banda chabe, Zo ona X 2

Yelele niba Banda chabe Zo ona.

Ok am MMD but this is crap.

  51. But RB is proving to be really desperate for the seat. Why should these things happen during election times? All of a sudden RB has solutions to all Zambia’s problems. Free Sugar, Reduced fuel pump price, Reduced load shedding, Reduced fertilizer prices… what next aBanda??? We know that these politics were once played by Man Chilu (FTJ) when he sold Luanshya houses to former miners a few days before elections. This time ni ZEE, Bwatofye….Ubwato, Pabwato.

  52. Am a villager in Northwestern province but will vote for SATA together with my mother and wife(my wife being a teacher feels the TAX). VIVA SATA

  53. No chameleons after 30th oct please VIVA SATA More Dollars in our pockets ( braais every weekend) Sata put the House you are staying in on rent starting 4 nov to allow RB to remove his Lilomba from state house.(plot 1) Lubinda goverment house is yawena)

  54. This is very very serious. We don’t have that much room for errors in our economy. This man seems not to know what he is doing. Would he have managed to increase royalty taxes for the mines with this attitude. His only interest is to win. Kind of when Chiluba sold houses very cheap. Now the housing market is in trouble. Hope he learns fast.

  55. Ala Kanchibiya has sent shock waves. K50 pin? This just shows how desperate the guys are especially RB, using every d.i.r.t.y. trick in his book of bribes. Ala come 30 Oct ni landslide in favor of pa bwato. Wait and see….

  56. #18 you are as useless and hopless as RB that’s why your area will always be behind because you think backwards.

  57. #42 #42 #42 So is Machungwa not participating in the campaigns. I am sure you saw the picture in the Post a few days ago.
Fertiliser price reduction shud be done outside election time. Mwaitaya bambo RB apa peve!!Mwilatusuba ‘stoko’ mumenso boss.

  58. TB Joushua has prophecied that in southern africa there is going to be election and the oppositon is winning and we all know on this blog that HH can’t win so bapwaaaaaaaaaaaaaato.

  59. Its very interesting to what lengths of cheap politics the man can get to, so now he thinks Zambians are so dull and stupid to reason out for themselves that this is just a campaign scheme. God he makes me laugh. Looks like now is more available during this period than before. Zambians are able to get anything they cry for. Talk about fuel and then UNZA and also the salaries. Hello Zambians lets reason out critically. The man will still revert back to the old system of “Dont give them government has no money”

  60. RB walasa. if it was sata doing this within 90 days of winning, we wud be saying sata is delivering his promises. campagn or no campagn we nid a tax break. government has alot of money guy, let them offset the diference with the money ment4 their increasement.

  61. Listen, this is what we call subsidy on agriculture.
This is very import for food security. In shot the government has decided to subsidise fertiliser by 75%, a move which will definitely have a great positive impact on our agriculture. This will in turn cause an increase in agric produce, causing prices to go down and eventually creating enabling environment for food processing industires to multiply and florish. Govt will then in the long run recover these subsidies from tax from food related manufacturing firms, apart from creating jobs for our people.
I hope this is very simple and i hope all can see this. RB this is one great achievemt before we even swear you in as president.

  62. What GRZ should have done (long term) is to pump in more money in production of fertiliser at NCZ in Kafue. Reducing fertilise prices is at this moment is not productive and just cheap politics. Even a grade V pupil would understand the logic behind production; pricing and inflation.

  63. I have been telling you bloggers that these two old guys have nothing new to offer.
Viva tripleH HHH HHH HHH HHH ………

  64. In 2006 Sata was roobed of victory coz of rigging and God saw this and am sure he said i will deal with this some other time let there be peace in Zambia so he found a way to bring back Sata to power and he did in such a way that the rulling party will pick on a candidate without a vision, an unsaleble person to the pipo of zambia a person like RB,so i am not surprised now that this time it will be a landslide Victory for PF

    Our moses has come

  65. #102. “Prophesy about southern african country”
Be careful the way you accept statements as prophesy.
Prophesy concerning a nation is expected to be specific. Got will not beat about the bush when it concerns any particular nation. God will tell you the nation and theb time when what he reveals will take place. God does not make things unclear so that you wait until it happens then you say this is what I was talking about, NO. He will show you clearly the object and time of his given message. God can not say there is a “certain southern african country”, but will be specific. Let us be careful with what we hear as prophesy, for all prophesy must be tested with the world of God.

  66. What is the logic behind subsidising imported fertiliser by the GRZ when RB knows very well (or maybe he does not know anything) that our NCZ in Kafue is operating under capacity due to financial constraints/lack of funding and investment in NCZ?

  67. Guys iseni tuba lile fye ulupiya aba.We will not be taken for a ride this time around.Come election day MMD you are OOOOOOUUUUUUUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  68. We are tired of old political tricks. What we need is REAL change. We dont want election driven policies what we want is deliberate sustainable measures that can develop our agricutural Sector. This can only be done by upto date politicians like HH not these old politicians with good for nothing fit for the bin eroded brains. VIVA HH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  69. The man RB is too desprate for plot one. He has auctioned Tandiwe for votes worth 50000 kwacha to any energetic man who can campaign for him . This is just a tip of the iceberg about what we are yet to see and hear. Zambia is dead without HH. Prepare for hard times and vote wisely. RB and Satan will not take this country anywhere but if you want to suffer vote for either of the Dinousuers and sink like Zimbabwe. Its no joke, I`m crying for my beloved country and the poor people in the village and rural areas. We are dead with the dual animals both socialy and economically. Please vote hhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH for progress and discipline.

  70. These are the last kicks of a dying donkey. RB should explain where he is going to get the funds. He is going to increase tax?

  71. # 8 and 12 Jobeeeee flags do not necessarily represent the location where a blogger is. For example, if your Internet Service Provider or Company in Zambia proxies your internet traffic through the USA, you will then be assigned an American flag as your identity on the internet. So people shoulld not lie when they see a foreign flag has been assigned to them you to say they are outside Zambia. Let us just turn out in numbers on 30/10/08 and cast our vote. Bloggers even go to the extent of saying: ati bwanji pa Zed? when in actual fact they are just in Kanyama Compound.

  72. RB whether you reduce the price or not…you are stil losing the elections and our tax base is very low…….truly you are a very swallow minded old man with no SHAME!!!

  73. I surely agree with # 79 and 82, let Nyama Soya reduce the price of cement to K20,000 then will shall be convinced.

  74. Imwe ba LT why is it that there is a comment I have been sending and it has never been published. Bloggers send insults here and they are published, but I send sensible issues and you tend to ignore. Are you supporting Nyama Soya or one of the presidential candidates?

  75. Nyama Soya is desperate.
Why do we Zambians want to empower the same kind of pipo from UNIP to MMD now it other forms.
    CHANGE NOW.
    HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  76. Where on earth do you find such price reduction on a commodity which a local(gov`t) owned company cannot even produce. So,does he mean he will susdise imported ferterlizer – my foot.

Then what will happen to those people who have commodites bought atK200 pin?

  77. 130 comments … a minority that think they know best for Zambia. Let people on the ground vote. May the best man win! Chaps have been too lazy pa Zed – you need to whipped into shape.

  78. Seems all things are possible in October 2008 with RB on the driving seat. Just make your wish, it will be granted…don’t say you were not told. this offer ends on 30/10/08.

  79. NI NDANI KUKI LELO, NI BANDA
NI NDANI A’ONONGA LEGACY LELO, NI BANDA
NI NDANI AKULU PUNO, @# &*^%_

Mr Banda are sleep talking or what? Will there be any fertiliser at all?

  80. NI NDANI AKWATILA TUBAFANA? NI BANDA
NI NDANI AKULU MPUNO? NI BANDA
NI NDANI AKONDA DEFILEMENT? NI BANDA

And you say he is right man for the job with a campaign slogan like the one above. Shame!!!

  81. Fake RB, where will you get the money from? shameless liar, politics of benefits. Shame on you RB. The choice is between Sata and HH.Alakupusa bati.

  82. those who are getting wrong flags can change in control panel- regional settings and then at the bottom change location to where you are.

  83. Guys, remember MWANAWASA (MHSRIP) earlier pronounced that “SATA will only rule over my dead body”, so, let us vote SATA and fufil the wish of the late ba mwine.

  84. Ifwe twankana,Inkoloko iyafwa.RB needs to go to the construction site to cook that nshima and not at Plot 1. Shame sha!PAWATO come 30th october.

  85. I think we should to fear with issues, when the opposition say they give things for free we say yes, but when RB reduces we say no. Lets us just enjoy ourselves. We accused MMD for giving cars to the chiefs, but some people will give them for free.

  86. this man makes good president.at least he has my vote.not imwe mwe bale pange chongo wen u’ll not even vote.RB IS HEADING TO STATE HOUSE.MWALAMONA

  87. I thought we were in a free market economy and the prevailing prices were dictated by market forces.

Where is RB going to get the money to cover the 75% reduction. And who will this money go to – the producer, distributor or retail shops?

The national budget is already off due to unplanned presidential elections and the reduction of tax on fuel done to reduce pump prices. These guys may be spending money meant for development projects.

  88. there are no such reductions,am seeing zambia’s enconomy going down after da election, were on earth can u reduce comodity like fertiliser by 75%

  89. HH SATA RB
    N 9% 56% 35%
    lP 8% 71% 21%
    CB 29% 49% 23%
    S 88% 9% 3%
    NW 56% 16% 28%
    C 48% 30% 18%
    E 25% 5% 70%
    W 69% 2% 29%
    LS 28% 40% 32%

Is it Sugar daddy’s way of corruption after seeing he is lagging behind and the majority of voters are in Rural areas.
then let him reduce CEMENT to K15pin and MOSI K1,000.
    Zambians any comments please.

  91. people sure, ichi chi banda why doesn’t he address real issues like suppliers not been paid for as far back as 4 months kuma mines like kcm. Do you want meridian bank history to repeat itself? Once beaten twice shy. After elections these thiefs will run away with our money. Also workers getting peanuts at the end of the month. Elo nga ni tax kufwa nayo. Now look at how desperate he wants to get to state house. People please lets debate about this topic and not the fertiliser nonsense.

  95. #149. UK-Zed Observer,
Do you understand the market environment in Zambia?
Free market principles, where, in Zambia? Forget it.
Our laws are too porous fro a true free market economy. We need leaders like RB who will make appropriate positive interventions.
Left to the so-called ‘free market’, only a few selfish chaps benefit from economic gains.
Take the issue of fuel, for example, when prices go up on the international market the dealers can’t sleep until tthey push the prices up. But let the prices fall on the international market, they have to try and fight battles with the govenment to bring the pump price down, and you call it free market? You need a well structure environment.

  96. This is the right time to buy a lot of fertilizer. I will be sending money home so that we take advantage of the reduction in prices which may reverse after the elections.

  97. Does it mean that as long as you speak Bemba then you vote goes to Pabwato? When are we going to take our own lives, future and our country serious? Think for a while….where do you see yourselves and your children and your grandchildren from the decission that you make we voting or supporting some of these candidates? I feel sad when i hear our BAD leaders making promises that they can not fulfil. Let us think with the future in mind if we are to be a wealthy nations. The deaths of Mazoka and Mwanawasa (may the rest in peace) have left us with a lot to learn from the type of leader this country need.

  98. SOLWEZI HAS JUST GONE PF THESE KAONDES CAN ASILY CHANGE MEAN TIME VIVA PA SHIP OMOTULI BA SATA BA MUDALA DONT WORRY, DONT SAY YOU WERE NOT TOLD AMAKA

  99. There you go ABASH UNDER FIVE & RB , VIVA SATA ,emlly and GREENSON….supporting blindly and not knowing where you want your country to be in the next 10years. All i see is just ichimwela and iy actualy is ichimwela……we are just going with the wind.

  100. all these blog names will become your real names in the next life!!!!!!!!!! so that there is no tribalism. One Zed one Nation. Pipo RB is only safe guarding his retirement coz he is a farmer and he needs cheap inputs coz he didnt get the salary increase. He dribbled himself!

  101. RB is a man of action.
There is already action that is tangible. He has reduced fertilizer, and fuel. These two factor are crucial to production.
You question RB for reducing fertilizer, but you can’t question the promises from the opposition to completely remove fees up to university.
The problem is that most people dont want to think even for a moment.
They believe that thinking is just an inconvinience on the brain.
SATA promises reductions within 90 days, you clap.
HH promises free education from Jan. 2008, you clap.
RB subsidises fertilizer, which is a fact you cry.
What is your way of thinking, have you ever questioned your thinking before or you have always given it a tick?

  102. #169 Fine, look we cry coz the rule of action is +days after election and not -days before elections grow up fine!! SATA 90 days, HH 90 days but RB -days, thats not right.

  103. Some of ustuchili tulelosha nalunya pa zed
I just came accros the Late President mwanawasas funeral video mega video if interested follow the link there is more there but it looks like some of the links have gone dead

    megavideo.com/?v=VHH8B430

  104. Fine i like the way you think……its very thoughtful and yet not with substance. Have you taken time to read of hear what and how some of these promises will be implimented. HH has pointed out on countless times on the auditors generals report and the misapplication of government resources amounting to over K1.7 trillion. Now since you like and enjoy thinking……think for just a bit on how these mismanaged funds would have been used to benefit the country. Reducing fertilizer and fule prices will have implications in future. You have valid point on the 90days theory and the free education seduction.

  105. RB is doing cheap politics. Leaving up to the sugar daddy name enticing poor villagers. They’ll buy the fertilizers and vote otherwise!!!

  106. Just one question do you people honestly think that say if Sata was headof state he would say i will do this in 90 days?
    I dont think so
do you want RB to say i will do this in 90 days when he actually has the capacity to do it now?
You are the same people who will be asking him why he has not done this and that since he has been acting between a promised handout for mahala and a reduced pricei would go for a reduced price as a more honest promise.

  107. Hats off to PF,these guys are now in desparation and giving us releaf from their bad pricing policies. But RB don`t 4get that there is no fertilizer in most shops and I wanted to stockup the commodity so that when yo fragile campain gimick crumbles whithin the next 2 weeks,I come and sell you the same at economical prices. So this economy can support huge reductions in prices, bring down our beer prices too or else…..Viva PF-paaaaaabbbbbwwwwaaaaatttttooooo

  108. RB you are very dull like your wife who cant see that you are old.You are talking of what your friends have talked about. you dont even look like president, youlook like something i dont know ( nyama soya).

  109. The announcement of prices for fertiliser should have been done by the Minister of Agriculture. This is what is leading to people like Cornelius Mweetwa accusing the MMd of being desperate by politicising issues. I am for the reduction in prices and in fair distribution of the commodity but let the right people do the announcements to avoid political rhetoric.

  110. 172. Next President,
Regardless of the auditor general’s report the issue is about macro-economics here.
Even in advanced economies where over 80% of people have reasonable incomes with enough didposable incomes they dont give free services; free medicals, free education.
How then do you think our 20% percent income earners, with majority below food basket can create an economy that will allow govt to sustain free services to cutter for all the vulnerable 80% and all?
I do not think, someone should take too much time to see substance in this little, primary economics.

  111. Osama – shag them in millions and let us see where that takes you. Maybe you will get an Oscar or a Nobel Prize for Shagging. I am happy you are not in Zambia because we don’t need people like you who don’t care about the sick in Zambia. I am sure you include your cousins, uncles, friends and other family members who have HIV when you say you don’t care. Remember every 7th Zambian is infected.

  112. 182.Fine
Mate i hear you loud and clear! The fundamentals are very clear and i see that you understand issues. Am happy for that at least our country has a future only if issue as those you have raised are debated by our current crop of leadership.

I hope you are in Zambia, cause i am….and what i see everyday is annoying. Yes there has been some change in some infrustructre but that has been funded by the 20% you refer to and that has been the case since 1991, way before i even started working. My point is DO WE HAVE A CROP OF LEADERSHIP THAT HAVE THE COUNTRIES FUTURE AT HEART? DO THEY HAVE A PLAN FOR THE FUTURE?

NOTE: I have read the 2030 development plan.

  113. But i still feeel the leadership has not got the desire and determination to achieve what has been planned for. FINE i hope you are voting!

  114. Da desperation being exhibited by RB & his manions is so disgusting. Da characteristics dat RB has exhibited within a space of 1 month does not warrant a vote for him from any meaningful Zambain. Abash RB,abash. Let the BOAT propel us to greater heights.
    PABWATO!

  115. Fine mudala (#182) KK did it with a Zambian population of less than 20 % as income earners. How? Extremely favourable world market copper and related mineral prices, no national debt payments and a relatively small population to cater for. The only stumbling block in plans such as those advanced by HH is external debt payment, others wise the sums still add up and it is possible.

  116. I’m surprised LT didn’t cover this. Our own athlete Rachael Nachula has just won gold and set a Commonwealth Games record in India. I also discovered that there is no single website with full info on her and there is only on photo of her on the Internet.

So I decided to blog on her and you can read about her achievements and history at shalalaoliversepiso . blogspot . com .

  117. #188. Sinjoko mwa mbonyi,
Yeah, for KK the population was small,
the ratio of those earning income to those going to school was reasonable.
There were very few people in schools at that time, and so it was easy and manageable, though it still had long term effects and some are the effects we have to deal with now.
It was automatic that time that immediately someone finishes secondary school they find a job and begin to contribute to the economy.
But now, this are much tilted; university graduates are not guaranted jobs, includes the goverment trained teachers and nurses.
And because our system does not encourage self-employement these become a liability to the economy.

  118. The Post Newspapers reported some few months ago that the price of Fertilizer on the world market has gone up. For sure if there is demand on the world market, especially from the developed nations where some farmers want to grow food crops not for consuption (Eating) only but for biol-fuel as well then how will RB be able to sustain the fertilizer he has reduced by 75%?

Let him explain how he is going to sustain this especially that we expect a budget deficit at the end of this year with unplanned for elections. If they can manage to reduce fertilizer prices, why were they calling for avoidance of elections and saying it is expensive?

  119. TAKE A CLOSE LOOK AT THIS YEAR’S PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES… YOU ARE RIGHT, NOT GOOD MATERIAL. WE HAVE A LEADERSHIP CRISIS. BUT I WILL TELL YOU ONE THING FOR SURE, SATA IS THE WORST OF THE AVAILABLE CRAP, I WILL LEAVE IT TO YOU TO DECIDE WHICH IS THE BETTER CRAP BETWEEN THE OTHER TWO… THE CORRUPT PRIVATISATION FREAK OR THE CORRUPT ACTING PRESIDENT FROM THE ANCIENT PAST.

  120. Ine, napapa nganshi ukumfwa aya mashiwi. Kwena yasuma, nomba tamuli icine; yakufwaya fye ukusembeleka abantu. This is cheap and worst politics ever. Kwena bashikulu Mukuka, muli fye bwino. Efilya balanda abati: Iyapelelwa, ilya no mulemfwe, eimwe ba RB! Shame upon you!

  121. That is a huge reduction. This guy will surely deplete the bit of funds that are remaining in Govt accounts if there is anything right now. We will wait to see the effects of the reduction in the price of UBUNGA next year. He is defintely from the old school and his understanding of economics should be akin. Can someone explain any surplus in the budget that has been redirected to cover the cost of the reduction. Since Zambia does not manufacture fertilizer, we need to know the total landed cost of a bag see if it justifies that reduction. Go AHEAD BANDA and reduce the price of UBUNGA.

  122. Mazoka 6ft,Nkumbula 6ft,HH...one foot in the grave, never a tonga we shall take them out let them rule cows even shag them for all we care Mazoka 6ft,Nkumbula 6ft,HH...one foot in the grave, never a tonga we shall take them out let them rule cows even shag them for all we care

#17 maestreo Hhehhe keeping dreaming in tonga till you drown in cow dung no tonga party no chance.in your tonga head u see it normal to have a veep and prime minister zambia is no tonga chiefdom ….l too have a dream HON RB and HON SATA forming a government that will embrace all zambians

  123. I think ba Times of Zambia failed to report this story correctly. I notice in todays edition they have remphasised the erroneous story. The facts are that fertiliser support programme has been extended to cover 200,000 families from last years 150,000.

The FSP is meant to provide relief to vulnerable farmers against the high prices of fertiliser which has doubled since last season. GRZ under the FSP is dishing out 4 bags per farmer at K50,000/bag instead of market price of over K200,000.
The price of the fertiliser has not been reduced at all!!!

  124. The wise farmer will get this cheap fertiliser and sell it at market prices and get cool K800pin and only spend K200,000 for his 4 bags.

Its more economical than planting maize and have a drought/flash floods, etc or wait for FRA to buy maize and wait forever to get paid!

  125. BaRubish MMD.Though ur vote is secret Sata is the man.inba bwaaaaaaaattttttttooooooo this time pliz let him do it oooooooooooook!

  126. “Peter asked Vice-President Banda to forgive all those who voted against him”. Why the word ‘FORGIVE’? Not everyone can vote for one candidate. If no people are opposing you, the know there is something wrong with you or the system or both. Please, read the post about the divisions in MMD.
