FTJ given Vehicle worth K295 MILLION

Government has given Second Republican President Dr. Fredrick Chiluba’s Office a brand new Vehicle valued at K295 million for his official use.

Works and Supply Permanent Secretary Buzwayo Nkunika told ZANIS in a statement that the Toyota Land Cruiser GX , beige in colour is part of the former President’s Constitutional entitlements.

The vehicle handed over to the second republic office last week is similar to the one given to First Republican President Dr. Kenneth Kaunda.

Acting President Rupiah Banda last weekend handed over to Dr. Kaunda the official residence situated in the State lodge area and a vehicle.

    Tetamashimba almost killed me on the 4th Oct in his as I was heading towards Kabwe enroute to Lusaka. Chap was cruising enjoying the speed oblivious to the safety of other motorists. There was a Ford Bantam behind me and a fuel tanker in front carrying Jet fuel. Chap overtook Bantam behind me and ignored my indicator to him that it was not safe to over take. He noticed an oncoming truck when he was parallel to me and cut in between the fuel tanker and my vehicle.

    Was rushing to Hungry Lion for chicken and chips!

  56. Purchasing of a vehicle such as brand new VX or even a Hilux or a Pajero doesn’t happen like buying bread. There is a 3 months waiting period, at least, before the vehicle arrives. This means the car was bought way back in June/July or even earlier.
    The vehicle is FTJ’s entitlement and he is not a plundered until proven. During FTJ’s time in office, KK was also considered a plunderer but this was not proven.

In as much as way appreciate that he is entitled to some benefits as a former hard of state, I still find it hard to understand the rationale behind giving such an expensive vehicle to someone accused by the same state of public theft. Remember that he has already been found gulty by a london high court.

  107. The saying goes ‘innocent until proven guilty’ but in some situations it is ‘guilty until proven innocent’. This man is guilty (we all know that!!) and why are we wasting money as most of those above have expressed. That money could be used on other things like retirement payments, medicines, schools, the list is endless. They should have waited for the case to end before they start using money on him.   136. Head on # 127. Its all about benefits and entitlements to the office of the former head of state. Legally FTJ is entitled and will continue to enjoy such as long as he lives. On the moral front we may argue to say looking at the poverty levels in the country, maybe the money would have benefited the poor, but alas we are living in a country of laws. Bare in mind that apart from such being in the constitution, the budget takes care of it. As long as there is a request and its verified to be geniune, the purchase will be done. Who is better, someone who owners the constitution by availing the entitlements to the rightfull offices (Ex Pres)or someone who promises to stop the corruption cases

I think there is nothing wrong in buying Chiluba a vehicle if it is in his conditions of services.However, you only ask questions if things are done at the same time such as: Fertilizer price reduction, Purchase of 2 Pajeros,Buying Pajeros for Chiefs,Spending on funeral for LPM (Justified so you may ignore it),Heavy campaigns by RB when on the other hand salaries for UNZA staff can not be reviewed.

    office, you deserve all that is given to you without question and the cost – regardless of the affordability in relation to other priorities. A high ranking govt.minister builds a house way beyond his or her remuneration and people just say, ‘kabili ni ba minister’.
    What about the timing of these latest gimmicks? Reduction in fertilizer prize, new car for FTJ? These are the issues we should analyze – not merely saying he deserves it because he served in govt.

  197. Folks, I think that what is currently happening in Zambia should concern all of us… whether you are in Zambia or abroad. A country that our forefathers fought for should not be led like a “Kantemba”. I’ve problems understanding our current leaders and i wish one day, a humble but intelligent leader will come up and help us move to another level. I hope one day, we will alllive to enjoy the best of Zambia. All we can do for now is to try and be reasonable by voting wisely- every vote is a step in the future.   216. We will see on election day fellow Zambians. Most of us just talk the talk and not walk any mile. We complain in the living rooms, bars, kitchens, offices etc but come day of voting behind that ka curtain mu polling station most of us will vote for the same recycled politicians. We need change-we cant afford to see MMD again , people this party has has failed to deliver since 1994. Though kudos to to MMD from 1991-1993 and also taking us out of UNIP era. But its the same party with same policies of FTJ,LPM and so will be RB. How can we still have VJ and the others calling the shots today? I am not personalizing issues here but my point is that we have alot of young people in MMD.
