Mama Kankasa urges Zambia’s next president to unite the country

Share

Veteran politician Mama Kankasa has advised the four candidates taking part in the forthcoming presidential elections to eliminate all forms of discrimination which were in the colonial days in order to foster peace and development in the country.

Mama Kankasa said all aspiring candidates should aim at unifying all tribes in Zambia as the country continues to build on economic development

She told ZANIS in Lusaka today that as Zambia marks 44 years of political independence, there was need to enhance cooperation and unity among all citizens.

Mama Kankasa said whoever would be elected as Zambia’s new president in the October 30th presidential election should respond to the needs of the people who voted for him.

She said the next president should also ensure that all sectors of economy were developed in the next three years.

She advised whoever will win the election to emulate what the late President Levy Mwanawasa did to uplift the living standards of people in the country.

Mama Kankasa stressed that the elected president should ensure that all the developmental projects which were started by the late President Mwanawasa were completed before the 2011 elections.

She has since urged all the registered voters in the country to turn up in large numbers to cast their vote on October 30th, adding that it is the only way they can usher into office a president of their choice

She also called on politicians to desist from engaging in politics of character assassination in order not to injure feelings of other people.

Mama Kankasa said a sober language amongst politicians would promote peace, which she said has been a rare commodity in many parts of the world.

And the Inter Religious and International Federation for World Peace (IIFWP) has advised Zambian citizens to work together and develop the nation regardless of their political affiliation.

IIFWP General Secretary, Rudolf Faerber, said there was need for people in Zambia to work hard in both politics and region for the betterment of the nation.

Mr. Faerber noted that freedom is precious and important in any nation hence the need to be maintained at all levels and embrace the “one Zambia one nation slogan”.

He was speaking today when he officiated at a one day seminar organized by IIFWP in Lusaka today under the theme” how should Zambians approach the challenges of the forthcoming by election”.

  1. So if Rupia is former UNIP, does it mean that every one of them has to re-appear? When is Grey Zulu hitting the Seen. We need Change seriously. Anyway she is wise on that not.

  5. Thanks Mama kankasa for the wise words> In fact, I am asking ecHi-ecHi to consider you for Minister of “One Zambia, One Nation” re-construction” if he (ecHi-ecHi) will win the 30th October, 2008 elections. These “Mama Kankasa said all aspiring candidates should aim at unifying all tribes in Zambia as the country continues to build on economic development…She told ZANIS in Lusaka today that as Zambia marks 44 years of political independence, there was need to enhance cooperation and unity among all citizens” are real wise words.

Countdown: 11 days and we are counting
Victory is certain for ecHi-ecHi following impeccable data from Zed.

  6. If we a s s u m e that the voter’s register of 2006 is used in this Presidential election and the c e n s u s 2000 numbers obtained from the CSO, the following (next posting) is what would appear as final results. In fact, I expect this to be close to the reality that will happen at the end of it all:

HH tipped to win the 30th october 2008 Presidential elections by credible and trustworthy data analysis though still premature at the moment but will be correced in time I think.

  13. So here is my first impressive proof that the POSTNEWSPAPER, current mouthpiece for Sata, does report news truthfully but without making mention of the exact factors on the ground. In one of their actilces on Rupiah Banda and Tribal voting, the POST indicated that the Bemba population in Zambia is at 43% while the Tonga one is at 17%. Quite rightly the POST gave us a correct number for the Tonga group but deliberately gave us an unfinished representation of the Bemba one (43% = 32.6% Bemba + 9.78% Mambwe) figures. Take note that all the smaller tribes and languages like Namwanga and Bisa have all been included in the Bemba language calculation.
I have full confidence in this presentation.

  14. Thanks for sharing this.#35 how many and which groups form up the tonga language and provinces?

On another note i want to commend Mama Kankasa for what she said.We should be more active in uniting our nation than being greedy to prepare to goble the national cake alone EG FTJ.We must learn from Zimbabwe who have divided the country already. Our country is more important than all of us.There shouldnt be need to configure votes coming from tribal groupings.Civilised Democracy looks at who is better equiped to lead our nation and this includes unifying us.There is so much being said based on tribes and its not health at all.We are all zambians.Whatever the case Zambia should triumph

  15. #35, Chills. The Tonga tribes is probably composed of real Tonga, Toka-leya and Ila people – the indigenous tribes found in Southern province. I do not have this data and I am still trying to get more on it from the Central Statistical office.
However, I one time went to Chief Chiyawa’s area near Chilundu (boarder town with Zimbabwe) where I found Goba speaking people. This was after crossing the Kafue river on a pantoon towards Lusaka. Infayakiti (In fact), I was informed that the road I was using goes all the way to Lwangwa(?) which is near Lusaka. The other groups of tribes could be the soli and Lenje who are found in Lusaka and Central provinces though I think they fall under ‘others’.

  16. #49 thanks for that but i think there is more i nfor that is missing.Lenjes ilas, solis, gobas, valley tongas, toka leyas i think fall under the Tonga main language which is known as plateau tonga. In comparison with Bemba and Nyanja there is no in between language the way tonga and lozi is for the toka leyas.Lozis at times think Livingstone is their town.Am i mistaken please correct me

  17. Mama Kankasa’s advise comes at a right time only that she did not specify that Zambia can and will not be unified by the use of brown evelops a slogan being championed by the former UNIP guy ” Akulu Mpuno”.
One Zambia One Nation With Economical Liberation.

  18. Number 13, why would you wish such a thing! People like you are what is wrong with Africa.

All the people living abroad who still take an interest in Zambian politics would know that although Mama Kankasa has retired from politics, she is still very busy with many asecpts of Zambian life and the underprivalaged e.g. AIDs orphans.

  19. I wish more leaders thought like her. In order to develop people need to work together for the good of all. Tribalism is an evil!

  20. Yes my grandmother spoke wise words. I feel very insulted that people have commented and been very disrespectful about her. First off if you kept up to date with Zambia you would find that she is still very respected and has no desire to rejoin politics but the media seem to be interested in what she has to say. All i ask is you would never speak so terribly about your grandparents,so please respect mine. Someone made a comment about how she should just die. how would you feel if someone wished that upon your loved one. Yes you all have your freedom of speech but please do not wish evil upon my grandmother or anyone,
    Thanks
