The National Constitutional Conference (NCC) to have a website

Share

The National Constitutional Conference (NCC) chairman Mr Chifumu Banda has announced that NCC will soon launch its website to provide downloadable information on anything concerning the NCC including its mandate, composition and verbatim debates in order to enhance public participation

“Through this website, stakeholders including members of the public will be able to make their views and demands known through the ‘have your say’ window.

He was speaking at Kozo lodge in Choma, when he opened a four days workshop for the private and public the media personnel drawn from Lusaka, Southern and Western province.

NCC chairperson also said that there is need for the media to understand the process of constitution making, in order to report on them with accurate precision because the media has an
important role to play in the constitution making process.

Mr Banda said from the inception of the NCC, it has extensively involved the media to disseminate proceedings.

He said the NCC is obliged by law to open all its deliberations to the public in order to remain transparent and accountable to the people of Zambia.

Mr Banda also said that he is happy that three of the four aspiring Presidential candidates have pledged to continue with the constitution making process once elected.

He disclosed that Acting President Rupiah Banda, PF President Michael Sata and UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema have all committed themselves to support the NCC.

He said Mr. Sata was recently quoted in the media, saying he will continue with NCC but would ensure the three church mother bodies and the Non governmental Organisation Coordinating Council are brought on board. And the NCC say’s the door is still open for the three church mother bodies and other stakeholders who have boycotted the process to get on board.

Mr. Banda said Mr. Hichilema has also pledged to continue with the process but will give it a specific time frame within which to conclude its mandate.

And Mr. Banda said the Secretariat is devising ways and means of having live NCC deliberations transmitted on all community radio stations countrywide.

  1. sorry for the first comment this is correct now
PATRIOTIC Front (PF) leader, Michael Sata, has said there will be no presidential elections in 2011 because whoever will be elected president in this month-end’s election is supposed to rule for five years.

  2. sata please am your supporter but we are only giving you 3 years you fail we rise against you. VIVA SATA VIVA 2 YEARS

  3. Ba Fulwe You just want to plunder through NCC, Ubwatoooooooooooo will be in power this month end so be careful Chifumu and your chaps by the way Faustina Sinyangwe will be fired very soon.

  4. You should have estabilished the website even before NCC could convine
,but anyway it will help most of us to understand alot of issues

  5. I don’t know how many Zambians have internett access but it is not a bad idea at least it will include those abroad. At least they can post in their views and demands based on their experiences abroad etc through the so called ‘have you say’ window..

  6. How is gonnaa help us, what chifumu must do is to provide a space like we do with LT and let people contribute thru internet and whatever people will be saying must be considered.

  7. #7 kalale if u huv nothing to lie abt. only a goet like u can blive your cheap statment. GOOD NIGHT. kALOTEKO IFYA MANO.

  8. It’s a nice development.Come,i am waiting for you.

The team should be focused bearing in mind that they are riding on the shoulder of a tax payer. We need a good constitution as soon as possible otherwise it will be a scandal.

No more crying for unrealistic allowances like divas in America.Personally, as a patriotic Zambian i could have actively participated for free.

    BE PARTRIOTIC,

    Zambia my beloved country.

  9. There has never been an election in PF to contest Sata’s position and this is just an extension of that dictatorial mindset.

The Zambian constitution clearly provides for a five year period for presidential AND GENERAL ELECTIONS and the election we are holding next week is a special case of replacing someone in the middle of that five year period. So it is logical that who ever wins only runs for the remainder of that period, not a fresh five year term. Sata is talking out of his behind – this is utter and total rubbish. Vote wisely. No RB, no Sata, no Miyanda. Do the maths.

  10. Please people of Zambia.Sata is tired and he is no longer the Sata you used to know.Look at him critically whenever is being interviwed on TV.

I had a chance of looking at him at close range and he has lost vigour.Dont just say Pabwato Pabwato the next time you realise the boat will have sunk. Nyama soya also can not even walk properly because of being too old. They are both recycled leaders and should rest.Don’t say you were not warned.

HH is the Man.I think Presidential debate should be arranged and see how akamwaiche ka HH articulates issues better.

  11. Firstly No# 8 you are a true patriot, telling Sata that if he was to be president, we are now alert and ready to vote anyone out Mr. Sata inclusive. For all of us abroad, even if the fellows left home mostly do not have the net, which is not entirely bad with all the obscenities it has, we can gracefully call home and share with them; wisely giving them a chance to express themselves inorder to let them know we respect their opinions too. Easy is it not? May God bless Zambia.

  12. And something amusing, why did they make pirates of the carribean, we now have pirates on the East and western parts of Africa (lol). Those places need christ more than ever, infact we all need him. But this is a great development.

  13. IWE CHIFUMU, GIVE PEOPLE DUAL CITIZENSHIP IN THAT CONSTITUTION OF YOURS, WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH YOU GUYS. THAT WILL ENCOURAGE INVESTMENT AT HOME. MA RUBBISH.

  14. na nvula nsoni, why talk about the old man when the topic is about NCC , you guys u claim to be educated but the way you fail to respond to the topical issue leaves much to be desired , please ba LT u should be blocking out of topic issues.Good for u Mr. Chifumu Banda but give us a constitution as fast as possible. dont continue eating our tax for decades.

  15. U see now sata can smell a bit of victory and he has already started being a dictator…vote him in and amke a life President until he dies in state house from a heart attack…shame Zambia.

  16. “He was speaking at Kozo lodge in Choma, when he opened a four days workshop for the private and public the media personnel drawn from Lusaka, Southern and Western province.”

Why was this meeting exclusive to Lusaka, Southern and Western provinces and not inclusive of all the 9 provinces?

Is tha MMD panicking about support from these 3 important provinces in Zambian elections?

  17. #18 its true niwebo munshebwa pantu munshebwa aile nama shinshi kuli banafyala -eiwe kapoli, kunsa pamenso nga kamulongoti

  18. SATA WILL DO ANYTHING TO GET TO PLOT 1
“He disclosed that Acting President Rupiah Banda, PF President Michael Sata and UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema have all committed themselves to support the NCC.
Hichilema has also pledged to continue with the process but will give it a specific time frame within which to…”

  19. The best time to do something is 2 years ago. The next best time to do something is now. Go ahead, NCC. We love democracy. Let those that hate democracy never rule this beautiful country.

Sata has already shown signs that he is undemocratic. If you want good things, this is the best time to change your mind. Suffer not. Vote RB and make Zambia prosper

  20. I HOPE RB IS USING THE BATH-TAB AND NOT THE SHOWER.
THOUGH THE TAB FEELS LIKE YOU ARE IN………. (PABWATOOOOOOOOO).

  21. #28 continued.
Sata is at loggerheads with about 26 of his PF’s MPs because they attended the NCC deliberations which he (Sata) vehemently opposed from its inception upto just about now.
Sata is a real joker and “muselela kwakaba”. The man is a terrible flip-flopper all in wanting to satisfy his (Sata’s) ambition to get to Plot 1.
How National Issues will he (Sata) change his views on just to win the 30th October, 2008 elections?
Sata, we have known you as a person who changes just like a chameleon to suit its current environment all the time to shift to a new place. “Sata wawa mature” – UNZA slogan.

  22. GREAT, GREAT,GREAT, GREAT,GREAT, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT, GREAT,GREAT, GREAT,GREAT, GREAT,

IDEA FOR THE FISRT TIME, KEEP IT UP.

    BUUUUUUUUTT NI PAABWATOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  23. #31 – Quote “Sata, we have known you as a person who changes just like a chameleon to suit its current environment all the time to shift to a new place.”
should have read “Sata, we have known you as a person who changes just like a chameleon inside a box of smarties.”

  24. #34, Hhehhehhehhe! You are welcome. I am happy this pabwato nonsense is coming to its end for good on November 1 probably.

  25. Sata is a good political prostitute, watch him out i wish he was with young HH/ but zambians shall go for elections in 2011 FULL STOP!

  26. The NCC MUST ensure total independence financially and autonomy of the three arms of Government, i.e. Legislature, Judiciary and Executive. Key constitutional offices like the DPP, ACC, AUDITOR GENERAL, Human Rights Commission, Electoral Commission etc must be nominated by their respective public commissions, the two names subjected to elections by secret ballot in parliament. The executive should not continue the current corrupt way of financing, appointing officer bearers and give them the policy direction unquestioned. Democracy should be truly reflected by the Constitution in the institutions it establishes and the autonomy it gives each institution as a watch dog for the other in gove

  27. Democracy should be truly reflected by the Constitution in the institutions it establishes and the autonomy it gives each institution as a watch dog for the other in governance of the people. Power should be to the people through their institutions that reflect=Government of the people, by the people for the people. Not the current Government of the executive, by the executive for the executive

  28. #41, I am not a UPND member – card carrying member – and thus I do not qualify to comment on whether the mighty UPND has anything or n o t h i n g better than attacking Sata.

  29. Why always old men? Why is there not a young woman running to be president for a change? Women should try to get a female candidate at least for 2011!

  30. #41. I hope this (#44 information) is clear to you. So, please, kindly seek such a s s i s t a n c e from www . hakainde . com for they will surely read and respond to your q u e r r y.

I am m e r e l y an HH supporter in this October 30, 2008 election. I am probably going to stand for Zambian Republican President in 2016 as an independent Candidate.

  31. #47, thanks for clarifying your question. I hope this time it is correct and will not need rephrasing or amendment.
You wrote “.. ba maestro … do YOU not have anything better to do?”
I respond, “I have nothing better to do than make sure Sata does not get to State House as President of Zambia.” Anyother Presidential candidate can get to Plot 1 because they are trustworthy atleast to some extent.
The undereducated Sata now is cited as having said that there will be no Presidential elections in 2011. This is the Sata dictatorial tendencies I am against and nothing is better 4me now than to avoid it – r a p i n g our Zambian Constitution.

  32. SATA WILL COME AND DO ALL THESE THINGS IN HIS MODERNIZATION POLICIES. JUST DON’T CREATE ANOTHER LOOPHOLE FOR STEALING TAX-PAYERS MONEY. FACT IS ITS NOT POSSIBLE TO IMPLEMENT EVERYTHING IN A SHORT PERIOD OF ELECTION TIME. PABWATO FYE. VIVA PF.

  33. #2and 7 stop your rubbish. YOU ARE SO BEHIND IN YOUR HEAD. ALL ZAMBIANS WANT PROGRESS. AND NOT RUBBISH WE HAVE BEEN WITNESSING SINCE INDEPENDENCE. PAAAAAAAAAAAAAABWATO.

  34. it is too late the NCC will go with MMD come 30 October. Please do not even waste any further funds. You chaps have failed to come up with a constitution over a period exceeding 7 years. You are dreamers you think NCC as a permanent and pensionable employer, you selfish chaps that have robbed our national treasury and still failed to deliver a timely constitution.

    VIVA PABWATO

  35. “PF is unable to do anything for you other than just criticising government. That is not the type of leaders we need. His Sata’s people, a few come from Northern Province, some from Luapula Province and then Copperbelt and Lusaka. The rest of the country totally rejected him. I am sure that the people of Kanchibiya, people of Northern Province do not want a government that is not representative of all the people of this country. This is the same to Mr. Hakainde Hichilema of UPND who has only 22 members of parliament, all of them from Southern Province. Do you accept that you should have a government, a cabinet where all members of parliament come from one province?” Vice-President Banda aske

  36. #53 continued.
This irritated MMD cadres, particularly women who started insulting them. But PF cadres said although Vice-President Banda was campaigning in Northern Province, it was only for the sake of democracy, otherwise they would not vote for him. The cadres said they had already made up their minds to vote for Sata.

  37. #54 continued.
    “M u l e i p o s e l a f y e n s h i t a. Ifwe tuka votela pa bwato fye, naba m u d a l a besu ba Sata. You are j u s t w a s t i n g your time. We will v o t e the boat and our o l d man Sata,” they s h o u t e d.”
    Source: m a r a v i . b l o g s p o t . c o m

This is what I call Bemba-Tribalism.

May the best man , HH, win the Presidential elections

  38. PF has never held elections. No one even knows some of the reasons it was formed. And Sata was quoted saying “there will be no elections in 2011”. And this is the leader Zambia wants. I pray that this man must never be put in power.

    GOD HELP US.

  39. HOW CAN SATA SAYS HE WILL SUPPORT THE NCC WHEN HE WANTS TO DISMISS ALL MPS PARTICIPATING.I DO NOT TRUST PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO PRINCIPLES WHO KEEPS CHANGING COLOURS LIKE CAMERION,PAMUSELA PAKABA MASIMPE.GOOD IDEA FOR WEB SITE SO THAT WE CAN CONTRIBUTE.

  40. Mr Sata please we only want to give you three years, do not disappoint us by trying to clinging to power. We are trying to accord you an opportunity to have money in your pocket for life after retirement. We feel you should continue with the medical insurance that the late president left you with. In 2011 it will be H.H’s turn, if possible offer him the second place in the Sata administration, differences aside. VIVA SATA 2008, VIVA H.H 2011. In God we will prosper.

  41. LT STOP THIS NONSENSE. YOU ARE BECOMING TOO BIG-HEAD AND INCIVILIZED BLOG. YOU SYSTEM IS RUBBISH. AM NOT THE ONLY ONE COMPLAINING. MANY HAVE. YOU DETECTION OF DUPLICATES IS UNFOUNDED. FIX YOUR SYSTEM AND STOP THE ROT. OUR TIME IS PRECIOUS-MIND YOU.

  42. #56 Free-Market-Capitlst. It wouldn’t have been economically logical to hold an election in PF few day after announcing that there will be elections on 30 october. Since PF raises its own cash through well wishers (who would like their donations put to good use) and does not embezzle tax payers money it would have been f@@lish to deplete all cash on an internal elections and again start begging from wishers. OK, looking at your flag you would excused for not knowing that MMD/UNIP also ddnot conduct one. They just adopted RB even he was and still is personna non gratta in MMD. Little wonder the current division in MMD. Which is not in PF.

  43. “Peter asked Vice-President Banda to forgive all those who voted against him”. Why the word ‘FORGIVE’? Not everyone can vote for one candidate. If no people are opposing you, the know there is something wrong with you or the system or both. Please, read the post about the divisions in MMD.

  44. #59. Anonymous 1

Sata was backing Chiluba’s third term bid. PF has never held any elections and Sata said there will be no elections in 2011.

Zambia wake up. Sata has come to rule for life. This may be the last election Zambia will ever have if Sata wins. He does not respect democracy and the constitution.

  45. #52 Masterbu..Hehehehe, You are getting in people’s nerves you piece of MMD. What has Sata to your family? He is a decent man, married to a well educated woman, and his children behaves better than yours. In the last 10 years Zambia has missed “action” it has been boring with king M.H.S.R.P. Now you are campaigning for that heavy one with sleeping sickness???

  46. #64, thanks, i know truth hurts.
I am asking the MMD to serious consider endorsing HH before it is too late.
I am also here to save you all PF supporters from crying, havaving unnecessary heartattacks and being beaten up by the Zambia Army soldiers on the 2nd November 2008. Let those with ears hear for we are in what Dennis liwewe normally used to call “dying minutes”.

Countdown: 8 days 22 hours 30 minutes remaining and we are counting.
Vote for real and effective change by casting your ballot for HH to create a safe future for your Children, your Grandchildren and your many generations of relatives to come after you. Zambia Forward.

  47. Im a man, a big man actually but majority mistake me for a boy bcoz of my height. I dont think I can manage to get on a canoe (pabwato)in case the canoe capsizes I wont swim. Im just at home checking the time on the wall clock.

  48. This website thing is long overdue i wonder why it is even making news now. Pa zED YABA SHANI KANSHI. we are always backwards. These days participation of citizens into government is thru websites. E-Govt they call it

  49. zambias 1st president was named “DAVID” The 2nd president was “JACOB”and the 3rd was “LEVY” All these three names come from the bible. now tell me which book, chapter or verse were you find such names as HAAKAINDE or RUPIAH NYAMA SOYA. come on pipo “THE ARC ANGEL MICHAEL” Is 4th.
