No usage of fire arms during October poll

Share

Inspector General of police Ephraim Mateyo says the police service will use short battens as opposed to fire arms during the October 30 presidential by-elections.

The IG disclosed that the police service has also released 11 motor vehicles which will assist in conducting patrols so that peace prevails before and after elections.

Mr. Mateyo urged police officers not to take sides during the elections as their role is to remain natural hence the need to embrace all political parties in Zambia.

Mr. Mateyo made the remarks when he addressed senior police officers ahead of the further coming presidential by-elections at Nakatindi hall in Lusaka today.

The inspector General advised the officer that are taking sides to leave the police service.

He stressed that the police have a duty to create an environment that will enable peaceful voting is done in accordance with the law.

Mr. Mateyo however urged the police officers to observe discipline as they maintain law and order

He has since commanded the police officers for the working so hard in maintaining order.

LT what does to remain “natural” mean? Does it mean they put on the green para-military gear to quell violence or what…? (irony)

  15. Where is the justice if the Inspector of Police can authorise his police constables (PCs) to shoot individuals instead of capturing them? This is tantamount to allowing the the PCs to become prosecutors as well as judges. No one is above the law but this is not the way to go about things. What the IG and GRZ should concentrate on is to find the cause of what motivates such individuals to become criminals and find ways of preventing it.

This is very good news, IG Mateyo. I am impressed that no one is likely to be shot by a gun similar to what happened when the Zambia Policemen shot 2 UNZA students earlier this year when their was a student protest at UNZA.

Only president HH has done a good job of paying for those 2 UNZA students at the UTH to enable them get HIGH COST treatment there. Todate, there is no more news on the 2 UNZA students. Viva HH.

  17. Countdown: 5 days 5 hours 50 minutes remaining and we are counting.

Vote for HH for a real ray of Chnage and Hope that all Zambians can believe and trust in. vote for your children’s future. Vote for economic independence

To this end, I ask RBB and MMD to quickly endorse HH for Zambian President. Munkombwe was quoted as saying the Sata may win if MMD makes a single or simple mistake. So, MMD stand up for what is right. It is not too late for RBB to infrom the Nation through ZNBC TV and radio with Times of Zambia together with Zambia Daily Mail that let all vote for HH.

May you all Zambians have a great weekend. I am leaving for a SABBATH recess. Thank you all for you support.
