Police caution Esther Phiri

Share

Police in Lusaka have warned and cautioned Zambia’s female boxing icon Esther Phiri for careless driving.

Esther was involved in a road traffic accident when the vehicle she was driving rammed into a maroon Toyota Corolla registration number ACG 9275 at the junction of Nasser and Church roads on Saturday evening.

Lusaka Province Police Commanding Officer, Greenwell Ng’uni said Esther misjudged the speed of the on-coming vehicle when she was making a turn to join Church from Nasser road between Lusaka Playhouse and Southern Sun Ridgeway hotel.

Ng’uni told ZNBC news that both Esther and driver of the Toyota corolla were discharged from hospital on Saturday evening.

  1. accidents are normal bane, they can happen to anyone. esther is also human, just because she is well known does not make her more human than all of us!

  2. # 10 what cerebrity? the problem is most people think knowing how to move a vehicle is driving. there is a difference!

  3. esther, tekanya…am shocked to learn that you even know how to drive. Am happy for you. Hope you’re ok and are going to be able to vote…wisely!

  4. Ya this kind of blogging is worrying me,honestly that was just an accident just like no.7 we all can be in one.I don’t know why it’s a big deal to some of u.Well it happened if u jealous that she is now driving and banging other cars or thinking that she is boxing when driving deal with it mates. She is just human like SOME of you.Abena Zambia bwafya.Just be happy that no life was lost.

  5. SHE IS ALSO HUMAN. JUST LIKE OTHERS HAVE SAID THAT IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANYONE, IT SHOULDN’T BE LOOKED AT AS A BIG THING. WHY PUBLISH HER ACCIDENT?

  6. I hope she has a counsellor who should ensure that fame does not go to her head. Otherwise she will end up a miserable heap like many Zambian boxers of yesteryear. Wish her well and success in her boxing career. Accidents can happen to anyone even those who have been driving for many years.

  7. Easy, people. The girl will be more careful next time. You know like, look left again and again before you venture! Some boys jump over the fence and land uko. You wander who they try to imitate – formula one? Certainly not!!

  8. Pipo, its called “an accident”.i think the headline is wrongly placed.
Lets talk about real issues affecting the majority of zambians.

  9. By God’s grace they all walked out of it unhurt, thanks to everyone that is blogging responsibly and not showing the worldly known Zambian jealousy complex. No# 25 Your are either my brother or sister for I am liverpool for life( Jesus first though). The greatest english soccer team ever, with Manu second; if you guys disagree check the records. Back to Esther, like our moto my dear lady “you shall never walk alone.” And indeed she is a celebrity, watched her on ESPN Sports. The one Zambian with the most notable planetary wins ever; Is it my concious or are our women showing us how to really archieve success; Lady president soon might shock us even more, actually developing Zambia.

  10. Imwe Esther is a celebrity and that should be enough reason for pipo to comment about anything that happens to her including that she belched after imbibing chibuku. Remember Britney Spears and her acts?

  11. It can happen to anyone. Infact it does happen to anyone. Pity it is Esther Phiri. Others just exchange Insurance details and move on.

  12. Baby C how am I nuts, read my text; it actually commended her and our many down trodden Zambain women, it would actually be a great thing if Zambia was run by a God fearing wise married woman. Esther a breath of fresh air, infact she is a cool summer breeze signaling the beginning of a great crop season; varying crops and meat produce that Zambia can easily produce. Thus I demand an apology, for I hold my Zambian women, infact women in general on a pedestal( unless they themselves prove otherwise). How can i belittle Zambia’s greatest boxer ever, and mark those words. Happy belated independence and God’s blessings for you baby C and all people of this earth.

  13. Ichalo Lifupa No# 47 you had me worried with the phrase “Drink driving.”
Then I recalled that that that does happen in Zambia, where there is drunk driving here; Zambians even drink and drive with no arrests nor tickets issued. Then we wonder why our police service or force does not have resources, the would have more than enough for every expense and salaries they needed; with the way some Zambians drink it is an endless Gold mine. My prayers for Esther and the other driver, thank God they were not badly injured.

  14. The report is rather too short and with too little information so that everybody is jumping to conclusions, which Zambians do best. Anyone who owns a car knows how quick an accident can happen.

  15. i wonder what some of you would say if it was your relative who was in an accident and was well known. an accident is just that. we can all misjudge. do you expect her to walk as some of you are sugesting then you will turn around and say inspiteof the money she is making she is walking. please grow up and be thankfull that no one died. be happy for other people when they move on from rugs to riches and not be jealousy and hatefull. get well soon esther both physically and mentaly.

  16. MMMM ba #5,aha,lesa apala umuntu, myayamba ukuponta.no one is born with riches and when god blesses you with something u cant question him to say why didnt give me this when i was young.
lets learn to be happy for other pipo.

  17. I was driving through when this happened and a warning or caution is not what esther deserves she deserves a charge, Coz I saw the way she was driving the way the baby was injured… sad story!!! will Hola more tomorrow!!!

  18. number 33 and 34.. u guys are sooo right but welcome to the real world, once you are a famous person everyone watches your every move.. u stop being human, wen u rise its headlines, when u fall, its headlines!! welcome to my world

  19. That is a very dangerous junction. A lot of fatal accidents have happened there. Its about time LCC puts traffic lights there

  20. all of you ba Kwindi just shut up! Even most experienced drivers have accidents, worse more celebrates are good at this behavior…..so move on all you haters! It was an ACCIDENT!!!!!!!

  21. I see more accidents in the U.S where almost everyone is a driver before they turn 16. It has nothing to do with kubwera more cedwa.Get well soon Esther.Ignore the poverty of the mind.

  22. Princess, it is impractical to ahve traffic lights on that road junction. It is just 100 metres from the Independence Avenue traffic lights and it is only a T-junction.

We was just slightly careless but there is nothing about drunk-driving here.

  23. Esther has been drinking for more than a year and so she is quite experienced seeing she has been doing it all the time. She owns more than 2 cars and this is actually the first car she bought, back in 2006. Better “vibwerere kuwu kulu” than to have been born with a silver spoon in the mouth and getting poor and ending up struggling in life while Esther enjoys her dollars and trips to Europe.

  24. 69 coments 4 Esther’s accident just goes 2 show how you Zambians LOVE your boxing icon. I am impressed. I know of other people who traffic accidents which are just stats. Keep it up LT and all you bloggers

  25. you seem to be so Immatured in your writing and full of jealous. She did not do nothing to deserve your silly comments. if you have been rich since your childhood just shutup!!! we need matured people on this blog to encourage those who need help and not destroying them

  26. NO 71……DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW THAT YOU DRIVE…HEY BORING SO BORING…GET WELL SOON ESTER AND BE CAREFUL NEXT TIME,DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE!!!!!!!!!WE LOVE YOU AND CAN’T AFFORD TO LOSE YOU NOW….

  27. #9 You are unfair to yourself for not understanding or using that term(vina bwera mo chedwa) you know whoever you are that if you are from rich family don’t expect anyone to have that. Esther has fought her way through hardship to reach where she is now, so would you please reverse that detrimental statement. That kind of attitude will take you no where my friend.

#18 You are good and right, thus good wish.
I also wish Esther quick revory.

God bless Zambia during this period.

  28. only a foooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool wil vote for sata.we dont want dictatorship.we freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee 44 years.

  29. Ba LT rubbish. This story was reported as is by all the dailies.

What happened to investigative journalism? This accident happened at around 23hrs on a saturday night. Everyone knows that the majority of drivers on the roads at 23 hrs on a sturday night usually have alcohol in their blood. Nguni (lusaka province commanding officer) knows what cut. Ask him nicely.

As for the junction: bad junction. Not a T junction but a crossroads without “robots” (sic). i have been driving for more than 15 years but go out of my way to avoid this junction.

  30. accidents can happen to anyone at anytime and anywhere. So be careful on being a critic, cause this can happen to u too.

  31. It is like you guys have never heard of an accident. Who told you that people like her cannot make a driving mistake? How many accidents take place in Lusaka alone? Lekeni umwaiche pliz. It is like you have forgotten that Levy’s driver nearly killed Levy in an accident. I repeat, accident. Chill.

  32. Stop making a fussy out of it! A million plus people have been involved in road accidents and so what makes her case unique? For goodness sake reason with heads!

  33. Leave the poor girl to live the Zambian dream in peace. She needs to be encouraged so that others girls can aspire to reach great hights among the elite in everything instead of cheapening themselves or to engage in bottom power. Zed girls need dignity so that they can make us proud. Go girl and rise again!!

  34. Please try and read a more detailed report that came out in print media. it was an error in judgment caused by overspeeding on the case of the corolla dude and esther who could ot see that the car with dim ligting was really nerer than she thought… am sorry to say but some of the comments are so infantile. whether afishibila kubukulu or not she desrved that car and rightly so afterall have we seen any juveniles with driving licenses apart from the spoiled rich brats!!

  35. when did she even learn how to drive. She just bought the driving license or may be it was given to her by GRZ as an honour.Taishiba ukwensha just find a driver for her or else she will be history

  36. Oh please people, stop this childish talk. Esther admitted that she was wrong and she will face the consequences so what are you saying. Shout up and just vote Thami out cos i want to take the money to Angola.

  37. sorry hope the chap is fine . i hope u a not about to be another emmanuel zulu. imwe antu akumawa muvuta . remember lottie mwale and now nyama soya

  38. Can some please stop making irresponsible comments? May be some you must learn what the word accident means. It means “undesireble event that lead to one being injured or damage to property” Vinabwera mo chebwa? If you were lucky enough to be born with riches leave those that work hard for it like you Daddy or Mommy alone.Get well soon baby girl. You looked pretty at Manda Hill last FridaY!

  39. There was a body building tournament at Playhouse that is where Esther was.She was sober conducted herself properly and got into an accident. Ask yourself one question what speed was that guy doing when he hit Esther. You see she was joining he was already in Church Road. Lusaka is a small place and even when you drive at 60 kilometers per hour you will get to any place in Lusaka within an hour. This guy was flying. He hurt himself, his wife and his kid. Why do we Zambians always drive like Lewis Hamilton in built up areas.

  40. Too bad 4 our celeb, such happens Esther. BUT be careful hey, we love u. Tel that guy Mwamba to be driving you. To all thoz sayin negatives about our celeb, i have this for u: REMEMBER THE GOOD OLD DAYS. Train hard my girl and after this fight, retire not kusila kwati ba Mike Tyson. U can then sit for your Grade 7 exams. good luck

  41. 4GET THIS ESTHER NONSENSE!! VOTE PA KOLONKO CHABE!! VIVA RB!!
PABWATO IS A SINKING SHIP! TITANTIC SHOULD I SAY…ESTHER VOTE RB!!

  42. It is all good. When is her next fight? I am sure we can discuss more progressive things than dwell on Esther’s accident. The police should concentrate on cautioning those police drivers getting involved in accidents day in and day out.

Esther, get your self a body guard and driver (a retitred ex police driver would do).

  43. These things they happen every day, because as long as you are driving you are bound to make such mistakes even worse than than. In fact the police themselves are not exception unless if the drive goods train which is monitors by other controllers.

  44. Mwandi Esther it was just an accident. Bantu ni jealous chabbe. Whoever achieved what you have just like that out of the blues? Bantu they dont understand your shock.
