Zamtel could end up closing down- Muyunda

Share

Workers at the financially troubled Zambia Telecommunication (Zamtel) have gone on strike for the second time this year, demanding from management improved salaries and conditions of services.

In the process, the workers have paralyzed operations of the company, including Internet service provision.

“Zamtel has been facing erratic operations of its services. Therefore, employees should desist from sabotaging the company’s installations,” warned Zamtel’s acting CEO, Mukela Muyunda.

The paralysis of the company’s communication system is an act of sabotage aimed at forcing management to budget to their demand, Muyunda explained. He advised all employees to go back to work, noting that the strike is illegal.

Negotiations for improved salaries and conditions of service were suspended in April this year after management said the company did not have enough money to increase salaries.

Workers went on strike after hearing that the joint negotiation council that was scheduled to take place Oct. 22 failed to take off, according to the vice president of the National Union of Communication Workers.

However, Muyunda said the striking workers need to be realistic in their demands, with salary increases linked to performance. Otherwise, he said, Zamtel would end up closing down.

Zamtel is a government-run communication utility company that employs about 2,700 people. It is currently operating on a 150 billion Zambian kwacha (US$34.7 million) deficit annually and plans to lay off 30 percent of the work force as a cost saving measure.

  1. Zamtel could close down, yes its true, the main reasons being Mismanagement. How come other Telecominication Companies are not closing down? What we need in some of the Insitutions is good Management of resoucers ,that includes employees.Zamtel in my opnion could have been booming in the recent past.but because the don;t strategise, there are always complainining,i donlt know what they do anyway?Zamtel Management wake up!!!!

  2. we cant have a work force that is tryig to hold the nation to ransom. these people no that the country is going through trying times with the elections later this week. this is typical PF mentality. if the company cannot make such resources itself where do they expect to get the better salaries from. we have information that these workers were even threatening to vote for PF if they are not paid new salaries.. this is TREASON. fire them all..

  3. PTRIOTIC FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLSSSSSSSSSSS.
DONT VOTE FOR SATA LEST U BECAME A FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.

  4. Please, let Zamtel take properly educated people to lead it. Most of those Zamtel woekers that are trained at the Zamtel college can not match up with graduates from universities or colleges.

This must be the same with our Zambia as a country. Please, let us not risk giving Zambia to be lead by Grade 4 school drop out Micheal Chilufya Sata who can cause more damage to Zambia than those Zamtel College in Ndola trained managers who are finding it a challenge to make Zamtel compete with Zain and MTN.

  5. Zambian workers should know that they should create their own wealth. If they cannot create wealth to get better pay who is going to do it. Zamtel workers work harder and get better pays. I had an encounter with Zamtel employees here in Lusaka and from that day i felt sorry for the company. Management do something about the mentality of your employees, it leaves much to be desired.

  6. the problem is bigger than just school. we have some of our educated friends/colleagues who will just shout PA BWAATOO. without taking some time to think beyond. they think that when SATA is in plot one then they will just idle around and still get a heavy salary and be able to feed their families. too bad brothers and sisters. whoever gets into plot one, you and me will still have work for our salaries. and looking at the promises SATA is making of lower taxes, constructing roads everywhere in the country etc… we all may have to sweat even harder for the same salary….OPEN YOUR EYES, DAWG

  7. Some of the comments here never cease to amuse me. What has Zamtel problems got to do with Sata? Can you please elaborate further….

  8. It seems as though the Managing Directors are personalising companies. I remember the way the Director for Zesco has the same behaviour. How are we then going to develop if we dont change our reactions?

  9. The union should have seen the company sinking. why did they allow an incompetent management to be in place. I thought the work of the union is to be a watch dog? how is celtel, mtn managing and celz is on the verge of collapse? what nonsense is this? sell us shares pliz if you have no capital ala!

  10. lkn. we are talking about zamtel. this blog is not for people like you. what has sata done to u. bushe niwe nani? you are a sadist. back to zamtel; look after your workers.

  11. THATS WHY WE WANT A CHANGE OF GOVERNMENT IN ZAMBIA. MMD HAS OVER STAYED. EVERY TIME A PARASTATAL COMPANY MAKES A LITTLE BIT OF MONEY, THE GOVERNMENT COMES IN TO GRAB IT ALL, THATS WHY THEY WANT PUPPET MDS TO DO THEIR BIDDING. WE NEED CHANGE VIVA PABWATO….

  12. #13 What u say is all lies about Zamtel college in Ndola i have known people from there who MTN and Zain have taken over because of better conditions of service.Sometimes criticizing for the sake of been heard talks volumes of how yo brain is full of water instead of the grey matter.Am so sure u were there and failed and u think they could not match up with graduates,am a product of Zamtel college myself and i work for one of Canada’s biggest communication company with the qualifications of Zamtel college.Just because u are in norway doesn’t make u any better than all Zambians.

Yes Zamtel has been mismanaged by the MMD who keeps on diverting the money to their campaigns its same with Zesco.

  13. Am a relative of the president but am not imprest with what the MMD members are behaving. We need to fear God. Lets not take God’s children for granted.

  14. people u can never understand wats happenin in this company, jst like the bemba sayin “u admire a house u don’t live in”….We r in deep problems.!!! Zambians lets help each other.!!!

  15. The actin MD was with ZAWA & mismanaged the organization, wat did he get, he got chased…This man is not capable of leadin an engineering fame becoz of his qualification’s. He’s an accountant by profession…

  16. YOU ARE VERY RIGHT NO. 21 I HAVE ALSO BEEN TO ZAMTEL COLLEGE IT IS A GOOD COLLEGE, IT IS JUST THE MISMANAGEMENT OF THE COMPANY THAT IS THE PROBLEM AND POLITICAL INTERFERANCE

  17. #16 Unions are not watchdogs, they look after the interests of unionised employees.Management is not answerable to the union, infact most unionised workers are junior officers & often less educated than Managers so they wouldn’t know if a Manager is incompetent, only Management know thru various audits that someone is incompetent or the company is not performing to expected standards etc.
#21 is right,ZESCO,Zamtel,ZANACO & Finance Bank have always been used by the ruling party & govt, sometimes salaries have been paid late coz money went to govt that’s why u see change of mngt when there is a new govt.

  18. #25 YOU GOT IT RIGHT ZAWA IS ALMOST UNHEARD OF HE ALSO WANTS ZAMTEL TO BE UNHEARD OF. ELYO NI ACCOUNTANT ELYO BA ACCOUNTANT BAMO BAKAASO IKUFUMYA FYE INDALAMA KUTI PAFWA UMO ELYO ABIKAPO NO BULOZI BWAFYA….

  19. HR you are wrong i have been a unionist. when you go for negotiations you are aware of how much the company makes and how much the company owes and loses. If you are not how else can you negotiate? and part of your work as a unionist is to have as much access to those company documents as possible. And your description of unionist as less educated is not even right . things have changed in alot of unions. In SESTUZ for instance some union leaders are degree holders. And even at Zamtel that NUCW secretary general has done law. Less educated?

  20. The truth of the matter is that zamtel requires to be run by the MD with technical and business qualifications eg Degree in Electronics/Telecomms and MBA etc .The current qualifications of the acting MD is not suitable to be MD,The acting MD of zamtel is qualified to be only finance Director not MD.And mr Muyunda is a very hard working good man. He is a good finance director but not MD.Let the govt employ new MD with the following qualifications: ie Electronics/Telecoms Degree,MBA etc then the company will perform very well and of importance let the MD have few directors not the current situation were zamtel has alot of directors.

  21. The managing director seem not stand the operation of the company becaues he spent time drinking tea and go to mazabuka to see the wife and the farm, how done he say that the lowest paid worker in zamtel get`s k2,900,000.00 when in actual fact the lowest gets k670,000,.00 , please let us put right people in management

  22. #24 Just coz Zamtel is more of Engineering doesn’t mean the CEO has to be an Engineer,a trained accountant especially a Chartered Accountant is best placed to effectively manage/head any organisation.ZESCO’S last 2 CEO’s have been Engineers but have they achieved much, infact Sisala from CEC has been worst.B4 Sisala,it was Mwansa,he had a good team eg Mutati as Finance Director etc,the Auditor General then was a Jehovahs witness.
Most of these major companies just have liquidity problems coz people don’t pay bills & the little money the companies have is used up on essential expenditure & in the case of parastatals like ZESCO,govt borrows without repaying back, some of the money is misapplied

  23. i hav been in Zamtel as a unionised employee even been tru one of the good displined colleges like Zamtel am now working for a good company appreciating my services not wat u ar thinking no 7 thanx no: 4 & 5. I can tell u Zamtel’s management is the biggest with laxury cars, allowances the hav punished their employees for so long due to miss management of finances ask or freinds from Zain & Mtn how hav left us some ar all over the world.the need to reduce on thier management they hav changed MD’s 5 times in the past 11years y?
The hav had the same mangt for the past 15 years thats the problem.
can som1 clean up Zamtel. NIZAMITUMINA.

  24. #29 and the rest you are right and he is even saying that over his dead body he is not giving them the money imagine as if its his own company. he is taking things personal. Its true we want change he is very pompous. God help us

  25. are we not contradicting ourselves when on one side we say Sisala is the worst manager while on the other hand we say Government borrows without paying back. Is it Government or Management? And for ZESCO we are paying for past mistakes. because i think now its a bit difficult for Government to mess up with ZESCO coz its under the watchful eye of World Bank under the commercialization programme. Unless they have used the Xavier Chungu borrowing tactics.

  26. No 25: one doesn’t have to be an engineer to run a technical company. Companies exists to grow shareholder value which not all engineers understand. An MD just needs the right people to help him/her effectively implement strategies. u don’t need a BEng to know that the internet has become main stream and investment in relevant technologies is necessary to help the organization (Zamtel) to take grow its revenue. One needs an eye for opportunity and a talented team to get the job done. Jose Mourinho never played soccer, Levy Mwanawasa didn’t study politics to be a politician. Accountants can make good businessmen whether the companies sell meat, bandwidth, beds or news. Wake up man!

  27. Great analysis #34 a good MD needs a good management team or else the old bad guys drag him down and he sinks only in Zamtel’s case he sinks alone.

  28. Zamtel can be richest company in Zambia, only that people are quick to think of cutting down on employement levels.Zambia at the moment needs more jobs created. So Zamtel plan’s should be expansion rather than down sizing. The real problem is poor income levels within the economic that are failing to support the running of service providers. Increase salaries for public workers so that they can pay their bill for Zamtel, Zesco and water Companies. The unemployed should get some benefits to enable them pay their bills too.

  29. mr k the MD didnt promise anything. this is the guy who told them this year that there was going to be no increment because the company was sinking! remember the stories back in May i think?

  30. #30 Maybe things are changing but for the worst i believe coz i have never heard of a copmany which employs an Engineer or graduate as a unionised member of staff, most graduates start as junior Managers in hierachy then progress.I’ll base an example of ZESCO coz i worked there,i never knew any graduate even if coming straight from UNI to start as a unionised employee, some positions cannot go to unionised workers because of conflict of interest,no company can compromise it’s operations by putting a unionised employee to handle management affairs.

  31. 9.Maestro Hhehhehhehhe Take it ease with your comments,There are so many Zamtel college grauduates working with high profiled companies worldwide.Take time to find out the history of the college and how it was run and its success. On my Ericsson outing project in Kenya and Egypt I found a good number of Zamtel college graduates.

  32. The problem is with Zamtel itself. Why is it that other communications companies are doing fine & yet Zamtel with all the infrastructure are still laaging behind. Board and management must wake up!!

  33. The problem with ZAMTEL has been the past two MDs who were politically appointed by our late president. These two gentlemen mismanaged the company to the point where ZAMTEL is now insolvent. The whole idea was to put political appointies who could fund MMD indirectly of which they did. When the previous Board headed by eminent lawyer Mr.Chabwera tried to put things right,LPM disolved the board. All two previous MDs are fellow tribesmen of the late president and all ZAMTEL employees are aware of this fact. The present MD is actualy trying his best to put ZAMTEL back on a business platform but he odds are against him.

  34. pipo i never said zamtel should be run by an engineer ,i said zamtel requires someone with technical and business qualifications eg degree in telecoms/electronics and MBA ,With this qualification one can early work and perform well with a good team as directors in this competitive word eg zain(celtel) in zambia has been run by mr David vain with the same qualifications and it is one of the best telecoms company

  35. Yes HR things have changed. We have a good number of graduates in a good number of companies who are unionised. A number of companies have a policy of if you are not management you are unionised. Just research further I am not very sure but the SESTUZ president or is it SG is a degree holder. and there are many other teachers that are degree holders and are unionised. Unionism is no longer for the uneducated

  36. The problem is MMD. MMD has over stayed in power. RB has been bribing people such as Cosmo Mumba, MMD NEC members and now flying Sakwiba and Nawakwi everywhere. where is the money coming from? From ZAMTEL and ZESCO.
This is what UNIP was used to and now is being practiced by RB. stop it MMD

    Vote Sata
    Pa Bwatooooooo
    Mwa mukolooooo

  37. Time that these people published their financial statements so we can know the health of the companies. Zamtel is a public company and the public has the right to know its financial health. This way workers know what to expect. The same applies to all public companies.

  38. 21. you seem to e speaking from point of ignorance. ask the guys at MTN , ZAIN or what ever. they are also complaining about poor conditions of service.. get a life …dawg…1

  39. 53. the guy (21) is making comparisons, he is correct i was an accountant the last grade in unionised grades in Zamtel, my gross earnings b4 tax wer
K 1,350,000.00 my kid brother back home accountant at Celtel(Zain now) was 4 times by far . wat can u tell me. wer i am right now am able to send
K 3,000,000.00 a month building a house in Ndola check your false facts again 53

  40. We real need to expand the economic if we want companies to be profitable. People can hardly use their phones. Basically most landline are on ‘receive only’ yet the company continues to meet the fixed operation cost. Therefore increase salaries for all governement employees so that they can start using the facilities and zamtel will be back to life.

  41. Morristown, New Jersey why do u ask 54. and i hear the dolla has gone bad in Zambia but Gud for those receivng money abroad

  42. problem with the folks in the diaspora. when the kwacha depreciates you seeem to jubilate….vice versa when it falls. knowing the USA the K3,000,000 (+/- USD600.00) you claim to send to zambia every month is excess cash I believe, nice job you must have. my friends in the diaspora for a long time have been failing to build here as they use almost all their cash on up keep..

  43. # 31 you don,t know what it takes to be a Chartered Accountant, A Chartered Accountant can not fail to manage a company like Zamtel, the problems is with our Government, they don,t pay there bill to both Zamtel and Zesco, and yet they owe them Billions of kwachas, so how do you expect Zamtel to operate, without cash. Mind you, cash is like blood in a human body.

  44. #43, choma1, I am writing about management and not technical stuff. If you know the structture about Zamtel, you will realise that the company has 2 divisions:
    1. Sales and Marketing
    2. Telecommunications

However, the Managing Director for Zamtel always comes from the Telecommunications Division where most of the current BOSSES were educated throught the Zamtel Learner Technician system at Zamtel College in Ndola. A few of them made it for some refresher or advancement courses in the UK or China. Thus, Zamtel must start getting well learned people to manage it just like Zamtel needs a manager and not a joker or comedian. This is my point and I hope it is clear to you now.

  45. its two jobs and sleep for 5 hrs i an’t planning to leave here for life i love my mother Zambia toooooo 222222 much. i follow wat goes around too much coz of a lot of freinds in Zeb. Viva PF MMD HP & HH
the best president shud win and clean our country and companies over and out…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

  46. Government is watching while ZAMTEL crumbles. The problem is that we seem to have over embraced free markets and capitalism.

Look at governements in developed countries. They preach free market, capitalism and privatisation when the going is good but are quick to nationalize and adopt socialist stances when things go bad because they know that they need to save those institutions that are key to the well being of their economies.

Why can’t government come in with a bailout plan for Zamtel? Don’t let it become another Zambian Airways please

  47. Last but not the least no: 61 get your facts straight about the MD’s for Zamtel.
List of Md’s and their qualifications check their web site

From 1997 to date all degree holders some with even more higher qualification that u shud check for yoself no : 61

    1997 Indian man. Mr Kumar
    1998 Sandie Kandolo acting
    1999 Douglas Mutesha
    2004 Wood Simbeya
    2005 Simon Tembo
    2008 Mukela Muyunda
check yo facts about their level of education if the hav been to Zamtel college and lastly they is nothing wrong with being at zamtel college ask any 1 on the blog mr. watever yo name is

  48. By the way, Government should also nationalize Zambian Airways by buying a controlling stake in the company. It will hurt the economy if the airline folds. Investor confidence will drop not to mention the fact that it will be extremely embarassing……….

  49. zamtel issue is a sad one. the best for this company is to have MD who is independent of govt and finacially displine. the past two directors were just wasting company resources and knowing what is best for zamtel. for example how can u be fired for being in compitency? plse lets us employ people with good experience and education to run zamtel. the company has also too much workers doing nothing, starting from diectors to sweepers.
can somebody do a proper cost benefit analysis of labour, assets, service and materials at zamtel. non performing sections should be closed.
Muyunda u are a professional watch out with that rotten company. find the job someway else.

    cheers acting md.

  50. zamtel needs restructuring for it to survive. no. 65 it is not about degrees but wisdom. all the directors u have mentioned have contributed to the failure of this company. avoid appointing directors who are affliated to political parties.

  51. 61 Maestro Hhehhehhehhe Check the list of former Zamtel MDs and you will understand that most of them either received their Education at UNZA or abroad or both.If you look at Mutasha and Simon Tembo these are internationally respected Zambians in the field of Telecomms.I advise you to be consulting extensively instead of alarming the country. The problem here is its not easy to run a parastal professionally in most of African countries due to political interefernce.

  52. The acting MD has just failed to run Zamtel. In march he promised workers that he will do alot of things to improve the cash flow, and after 6 months he will increase the salaries. But after six months he still singing the same song minus full filling what he promised them. He even said he is going to retrench about 800 work force. Ask him has he done it?

  53. For parastal companies you should not just talk loudly minus unstanding the way they operate. That’s the mistake the acting MD did. He likes rushing to the press thinking that he will get simpthy from pipo outside zamtel.

  54. ZAMTEL has not done much in the area of customer service. Make land lines available to residences in high density zones and lower down the rates to boost phone usage. The more people you have using the phones, the more money you will make over a period of time. You don’t need UNZA or other economist to render advise. Yes, for now, no salary increment if the service is poor.

  55. We have MTN and ZAIN just sell it to Vodacome then the ministers will not have free air tym for their girl friends. Am sure even the sales manager has 2 numbers that are toll free( for himself and the girlfriend)

  56. #s65, The mwine and 67, can you please give me their qualifications? For I do not have to rotate around when you are their to give me the data. I still maintain that the Zamtel Management is run by Learner Technicians who rose through the ranks of the company until their got to higher POSTS. choma1, I will not write much on here but I hope we will meet one day in person. The we will come to grips with who I am.
I am waiting for their qualifications since you know them better #65. Tell also if the Senior Engineers, Principle Engineers, Area Managers, Assistant Directors and so on who are in Zamtel management are GRADUATES from UNIVERSITIES mentioning them 2.

  60. As someone close to Mukela Muyunda, he has a min of BAcc (CBU), MAcc (XX UK),ACCA, ZICAs, whatever?? I am not very sure which University in the UK.
He was my juniour at UNZANDO,we left as UNZA, but they graduated under CBU. Then we taught together at CBU (he was in the Sch of Business for more than 10 years) until he left for Zambia Sugar in Maz., joined ZAWA, then heard of him at ZAMTEL as acting fimo fimo. Problems there have nothing or very little to do with competence of employees.
Parastatals are just that (half state/or government companies)

  61. 73# The acting CEO is my freind i know him very well he is qualified accountant If not mistaken he holds accountancy degree, and MASTERS IN FINANCE.At one time he was Finance Director of ZAWA. Actually his post at Zamtel is that of Director of finance. I believe he is more qualified for the job. HH has impresses me on his tour of NW and Western provinces.I have no doubt the man will give the good run for RB+Sata. VIVA HH THE CHANGE WE CAN TRUST

  62. 72Maestro Hhehhehhehhe you have problems with people s career growths or paths?I know a guy who rose from a bus conductor to a Republican President.I just have admiration and nothing against.Dont give a formula. There are so many reasons why Zambians can not go straight into university from secondary schools. We dont have enough university places in Zambia .Making tea does not mean one has got no ability to excel accademically or contribute to the development of the country.

  63. #s 79 and 80, thank you very much. I very much understand the situation and this is why I did not want to mention a lot about Zamtel. It actually it pains me to see a powerful company Zamtel failing to perform. On the Zamtel Management that I indicated above, can someone inform me whether I am wrong about the group I presented above and their education is wrong.

  64. #80, thank you very much for everything. I know that president Hakainde Hichilema will give Sata a good run. RBB is not a factor although the MMD are trying hard to sell him to the Nation. I still believe that RBB and MMD can do the Nation justice by endorsing HH for Zambian President tomorrow.
Former South African President Thabo Mbeki left the Presidency for more capable people to continue moving South Africa in the right direction. I personally feel that Zuma will have a big job unsettling the current Acting President of South Africa. This is what we need also in Zambia to block Sata from ever winning any Presidential election in Zambia. It is an honest approach to a fragile situation.

  65. #81, choma1, I have not indicated the Zamtel college in Ndola is useless or anything of that sort. All I have written is that Zamtel which is currently outperformed by companies which are only fit to be its subsidiaries has a lot of people in its Management who are not making the right decisions for the company.
Indeed, people move from bottom up and this is why I am advising Sata to write Grade 7, 9 and 12 exams by 2016 so that he can stand for Zambian President with an honest and sound appeal to the Zambian community. Those who have the right qualifications like president HH must get the jobs which require the services like the Zambian Presidency because they have papers and knowledge.

  66. Zamtel should be break its monopoly in the comm indudtry. All other comm companies are using Zamtel facilities at Mwembshi and they pay huge sums of money to Zamtel. Sata will deal this issue within 90 days. Go PF

  67. for as long as zamtel operates in the analogue mode, it will forever be in financial problems. wake up and embrace new technology iwe kamukela. nanomba taulaleka dobo yaku bulangililo?

  68. I am still urging Veep RBB and the whole MMD to endorse president HH before it is too late. Zambia can not afford to have Sata as Zambia President at this time. Let us convince Sata to sit for Grade 7, 9 and 12 exams before he can come back and contend the Zambian Presidency.
Countdown: 1 day 45 minutes remaining and we are counting.
I envision a Zambia whose people shall stand tall as PROUD persons instead of being timid due to lack of confidence and motivation. President HH has committed himself to serve Zambia to the best of his ability and so, let us endorse HH on Thursday so that HH can bring a better future to our children. Together, yes we can and we still have 1 full day to decide

  69. Zambia has approximately one day to chnage its destiny in future terms on to a course that will bring all things to be running well for all Zambians.
I am a carrier of a Zambia National Registeration Card (NRC) which shows that I am a Zambian Citizen. On it (NRC), there is nowhere written Tonga except the village of Chief Mapanza – which is i n s i g n i f i c a n t anyway for I have never been there sadly. I also have a Zambian P a s s p o r t which also has no reference to my tribe Tonga while it only indicates my NRC (Zambian Citizenship) number. So, fellow Zambian Citizens, it is us all as Zambians and not HH as a Tonga person although this is only true (HH being Tonga).

The issue about ZAMTEL is not degrees or the lack of them. Every single Director at ZAMTEL has a degree minimum so pleaselet us not make ignorant ill judged comments.Maestro Hhehhehhehhe in particular your ignorant and ill informed comments are a disgrace. Even as farback as the late 80s ZAMTEL/PTC had well qualified engineers such as Swatulani Munthali and Gerald Mutti in charge

ZAMTEL has suffered from Government interference, Poor cashflow and wrong strategic direction.

  77. Maestro Hhehhehhehhe do not insult the ZAMTEL trained technicians. They are the backbone of the company. In my time they done wonders for me as an ICT consultant. Without them the fibre backbone, the digital exchanges, the DSL leased lines, Cell Z and the International gateway would not work. ZAMTEL’s problems are not technical. ZAMTEL’s problem are of a purely business and political nature.

  78. A reliable source tell me Zain and MTN staff have whack conditions of service. Zain has lost 60 employess in the last 3 months alone!!!!
Management in all 3 companies should seriously improve working conditions for their staff or else Ericsson and Venture Communications will continue to poach them.

Damn! Ericsson and Venture are offering 4 times more what workers at Zain and MTN are getting!!!!

  79. ZAMTEL AREA MANAGERS,MOST SENIOR ENGINEERS AND ENGINEERS IN THE FIELD ARE ILL QUALIFIED.MOST OF THEM HOLD A BASIC CERTIFICATE FROM ZAMTEL COLLEGE.WITH THIS CERTIFICATE THEY HAVE RISEN TO SENIOR POSITIONS LIKE PRINCIPLE ENGINEER WHAT A SHAME….EDUCATED JUNIOR STAFF WITH VERY GOOD QUALIFICATIONS OBTAINED IN ZAMBIA AND ABROAD ARE BEING SHUNNED IN PREFERENCE FOR THESE OLD ILL QUALIFIED STAFF WHO THINK THEY KNOW BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN IN ZAMTEL FOR SO MANY YEARS…COME ON ZAMTEL WAKE YOU CAN DO BETTER…MOST JUNIOR STAFF HAVE LEFT FOR MTN ,ZAIN AND OTHER TELECOM COMPANIES…
ZAMTEL SHOULD DEMOTE ALL SENIOR PERSONNEL WITH BASIC QUALIFICATIONS.POSTS SHOULD BE ON MERIT AND NOT ON YEARS SERVED .

  80. Zamtel is over trading. How can you allow a katemba kiosk to expand and compete with shoprite. Zain and MTN had their shareholders pump money in the companies to expand. You Zambians just picked a phone and tell your katemba manager ” I want you to expand your Cellphone network nad change from Analogue to digital,Change all the exchanges to digital put fibre optic and modernise the international gateway by 2009″ Then katemba worker ask Where can I get capital to expand? and Zambia answers get a loan iwe. RB your time is up. Tour team was suppose to pump money for the company to expand not loans

How about the missing gaps without university data like ’98,’04 and ’05? When did UNZA start offering BBA, check 2008? On the Trainee Tech., I never insulted them?

  82. #102 continued.
Porgy, Zamtel has NEAX 61E Japanes Technology as the swicthing system at Lamya House. There is E10B in Ndola.

You find the Switching, Transmission, External Mantenance, Electronic Repair Centre and PABX Sections under Zamtel. I told you that I do not want to mention much data about Zamtel, so stop being emotional and know that I as Maestro hhehhehhehhe knows too much – as opposed to the “Maestro Hhehhehhehhe in particular your ignorant and ill informed comments are a disgrace” in #97. Porgy, just take care and vote wisely for president HH tomorrow for this is the best you can do for Zambia as at now. However, do the needful for I respect your choice.

  83. I will not comment on this topic again for I have National duties to look at now. However, I will be looking forward to read of the answers to my querries above. Be blessed you all Zambians.

  84. Read todays times and see how ZAMTEL MD has misled the pipo on salaries and conditions of service for his workers. Mukela must be fair to his employees he needs them all he cant work alone. Work has suferred

  85. This a company which is laden with corrupt officials, worked there for 2 years shear weast of tym,u cnt climb the ladder because the’v put spanners there, they do mek a lot of money but they dont no the importance of a customer, the breed of supervisors that r there a still thinking its the only provider of the services they r providing. just shut it en employ young pipo to run!

  86. zamtel is just mismanaged thats all. All past (3)Mds are political even this one Mukela is connected to state house. Lets just vote for pabwatoooooooooooooooooo all these problems will be over. OR please bring back ‘WOODS SIMBEYE’ THE BEST md ZAMTEL EVER HAD

  87. Pabwato or the boat will not solve any problem when voted into power so don’t even think of voting for them.

  88. For your information Maestro I went to UNZA in Kitwe before it became CBU. My degree like Mukela’s says University of Zambia not CBU. Please children be careful what you talk about. As for the tit bits you shared with everyone about ZAMTEL, I am sure when you and your fellow students go to ZAMTEL for attachment you discuss these issues

  89. #111 forget abt maestro hehehe or whoever he is called lilofwafye ilyo am sure hez jst a dependant thats why he spends more time on the net he doesnt feel the credit crunch eusunga abana when the wife goes for work hez jst disgruntled bitter and anything that goes with vile thats him anybody with 5 senses cant write those vile stuff he writes maybe he did political science in USSR sponsored by kaunda in those days thinking he will get a job shemuna shemu
