Bishop John Mambo happy with Kunda’s appointment

A faith based Non-Governmental Organisation says President, Rupiah Banda’s decision to appoint Justice Minister, George Kunda, as Vice President reflects his commitment to build on the development agenda left by late President Levy Mwanawasa.

Chikondi Foundation President Bishop, John Mambo, says his organization is happy with the composition of the new Cabinet which was unveiled yesterday.

Bishop Mambo told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today, that his organization is confident that the new Cabinet would perform to address the economic challenges confronting the nation.

Bishop Mambo, who is also a Founder Member of the Nyamphande Orphanage, commended President Banda for appointing members of the new Cabinet on merit and not political appeasement, adding that the decision is ideal to achieving positive result in national development efforts.

He appealed to former cabinet ministers, who have not been reappointed, to support and work with President Banda at various levels of national development.

Meanwhile, Bishop Mambo has urged the Christian community in the country to rally behind President Banda as he works to address economic challenges affecting the nation.

He said the church should pray that God guides and gives strength to President Banda as he manages the affairs of the country.

President Banda yesterday announced the cabinet in which Mr Kunda was appointed Vice President.

  1. Yeah you are right Kunda is a very sober guy and quite experienced at law. He is a fresh breath from teh excitement of people like Teta and mulongoti. Government needs such people and RB needs a firm legal hand like him. And more over Kunda’s record at LAZ as president is also good.

  2. I hope Kunda can sort out our constitution.
RB was born in Zimbabwe but because his parents were Zambians he qualifies to be president of Zambia. His first Child, nephew of Masekela, a citizen of South Africa, can stand for president of Zambia if he chose to become a Zambian citizen. We have Zambians who were born and bred in ZAmbia who cannot stand for the presidency because their parents were not born in Zambia. Where is the logic?? Bring in dual nationality. Yes I have an agenda. Bring in dual nationality Mr VP.

  3. The Selection of George Kunda is best choice. He Mr Kunda is always sober and very honest man even in his legal practice.I wish him well and God’s blessings.

  4. Great cabinet. I just didnt expect magande been dropped. I agree it came with shock to me especially with issues of sidelining during the campaigns. Other than that, its a cool cabinet with the exception of VJ, Teta and Mike.

  5. Its a crap cabinet. What do we need VJ for? And whats Kawimbe supposed to be offering now. Too much job creation for friends here. Kunda as veep isnt a bad choice compared to some of the names we were hearing as being possibilities. Very immature of Shriek to drop Magande just because they had some silly differences.

  6. wewewe and the man.i dont know Kunda very well but i dont think he makes a good VP dispite him having legal history. i watch him on race to manda hill programs and for me he didnt impress me much and sounded like one of those that are controled my govt machinery. i didnt really get the impression of him having independent strength but rather a mouth piece to suit a situation i remember he was publicly critised and could not uphold himself everytime he was interviewed.he was always at the mercy of ben kangwa, eventually he was hiberting. but one thing i agree with you is that he is sober and not in the limelight talking like teta and mike.i question his potential if RB died

  7. King George is ok as VP. I hope he is not contaminated by bad eggs. Atleast I can see some legacy in the appointment.

  8. In our condemnation of the old lets just be careful we dont rubbish everyone thats old as fake and unreasonable. people can be above sixty and still contribute to development and make very informed and sober decisions. I am yet to see what is wrong with Kawimbe. how old is Mc Cain how old is Hilary Clinton who is rumoured to become secretary of state? well above fifty. so it does not necessarily follow that when you are young then you are intelligent and have good new ideas. what did Kazala and Taima take to cabinet or Government? You cant have new for the sake of new.

  9. GK IS NOT GOOD FOR ZED.RB IS JUST USING HIM FOR 2011.JUST LIKE LEVY USED HIM TO GET AWAY FROM THOSE PETTIONS AND STUFF.HE WILL DEFINITELY HELP RB FRUSTRATE THOSE PERTITIONING ELECTIONS.ONLY A BLIND ZAMBIAN WILL SAY ITS A GOOD CHOICE:CHEAP POLITICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. #18 Which 2011? RB said he is not going for the presidency in 2011. that was during his campaigns. i would be surprised if he went back on his words.

  11. 20 so u trust zambian politicians?they changed positions anyhow as long it suits them: ref teta condemned chiluba whem levy was alive but changed his stance towards him when levy died, see. So just the mere fact rb said wud only 4 three years is not guarentee enought that he wud not go 4 a second term.

  12. He will be too old then. and if we cant trust each other then we cant do anything. so i trust RB for starters coz i dont see any reason why i should not trust him. i cant use Teta as a yardstick for RB.

  13. im really sad with the state of my country.RB is a down fall for the coountry masebo even peforms beta than VJ he is taken back old useless people. wewewe put it right not all old are useless but much of these pipo have been brought back after beeing in politics and left without tangable results and now are back what new ideas will they bring if they had no ideas atll in FTJ,LPM time.this is a sad state of affair.i really hope they work not just get rich at the expensef the pipo.then VJ can white house number 2

  14. #18, you got it right, thats why Kunda has been put to double. RB will run in 2011 just wait and see. Didint he promise donors that he will mainatin Magande and where is Magande now? Masebo and Magande were definately going coz they were the closest to LPM and were to find it easy with the new power base were Teta and Siliya and the Boss’s blue eyed pets.

  15. # 13. I agree with you- that Sokoni letter bothers me a lot. Other wise GK for VP looks OK. Am not sure if VJ and others were the best picks. Let’s wait and see how they perform.

  16. “A faith based Non-Governmental Organisation says President, Rupiah Banda’s decision to appoint Justice Minister, George Kunda, as Vice President reflects his commitment to build on the development agenda left by late President Levy Mwanawasa.”
I think so too for the Mwanawas legacy has to continue to some extent. Since late Mwanawasa was a man of laws and now Zambian Vice President George Kunda has a law background, atleast the issue of laws will carry on from where the late President left it.Congratulations Mr G. Kunda on your appointment as our Vice President. Please, do not let us down for I am looking up to you for development especially where the Constitution through NCC is involved.

  17. george kunda is intelligent. people should however look at how his law firm was struggling until he was appointed minister. today he is one of the wealthiest members of government. think of the CRC and now the NCC. that is where all the money has come from. some of us knew him from ndola nomukashiwakwe ireen.

  18. The only worrying thing is that Veep Kunda has 2 positions including the Minister of Justice one. So it is currently difficulty to call hm one title. It is also very confusing. Anyhow, it appears like President RB Banda failed to either find a Vice President or Minister of Justice. This is very serious and sad too.

Anyway, I hope Veep/Minister Kunda will succeed in discharging all his duties very well.

The issue of 2 deputies in some Ministries is worrying though I havent had a good look at what exactly is going on.

  19. #36 you are right, both positions are demanding and important and therefore should have been given to two separate persons so that the offices are given adequate attention. I hope GK manages.

  20. #
    37. your flag Zambian, thanks and I hope so too.

    “…with God, nothing is impossible….”

Let us keep hoping for the best for Zambia.

  21. Fair results and congrats Chipolopolo.
    Meantime:
Vote president HH and his UPND Team for a possible youthful team of GRZ to lead Zambians to economic independence.

Kala kabotu alakuyasa mavwa. This is our time, as youths, and this is surely our moment to work with new Personal Computers tools – calculator boy – to serve all Zambians of all backgrounds for a real ray of change and hope that all can believe and trust in.

  22. Former first lady; Vera Chiluba’s interview with the BBC…

BBC; ‘Hon. Minister how do gauge your responsibilities in your new
    portifolio’….

Vera: ‘It is a glet achivument in my own capacities as Vera to be given
some very lare opportunities to lun a ministly like tuwalizim. Its lily
    glet, but l deserve
it mwandi, I have lily worked hard. The people in my constution in
eastern plovince in zambia are vely good, they voted for me.

Just imagine, flom maid to wife of a unionist, then to first lady, then
to MP and to Minister, and again bak to fest ledi now in a foleni
    cantry.

I am lily ploud of myselfu mwandi. Olo nipa Malawi it’s ok’….

    BBC; Thank you very much

  23. #34 thank you very much.I grew up in Ndola as well.In fact Levy was more successful and respected as a lawyer.Let them celebrate:I can guarantee you Zambia will be messed up once again!Abash MMD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. 36. Thanx for your concern. But I feel that GK will manage because there is nothing much at the VP level. This is goog so that we can as well reduce on the number of Ministers. In other coutries, like Kenya and I stand to be corrected, the Vice President also runs a Ministry.

RB should have reduced the number of Deputy Ministers to one each as opposed to the two nearly each Ministry has. Regards

  25. Kunda is worth more than 50 senior lawyers, so forget about GRZ losing cases. Petitions will be useless, Shikapwasha will surely control the media watch as the drama unfolds. WHO is better MASEBO OR DORA?

  26. FTJ wont get off easily with Kunda as VEEP since he shares same vision as LPM. It shows by two appointments that of Kunda and Musokotwane, RB has shown that he has a knack for identifying talent and building a winning team.

We are waiting for changes at PS level because this is where the delivery is done. Maureens appointees i.e. Mulasikwanda and Njapau are out and next are the family tree bootlickers whose main pre -occupation during LPM’s rule was to report on their well educated superiors. Lelo ni lelo , start booking your containers bangwele. Maureen went to far as a defacto head of state who even had the guts to shout at Ministers. Awee twakana

  27. Vote Masebo for President in 2011. She has the experince and has shown that she can do it!
Vote Masebo as first female President of zambia in 2011
    YES WE CAN

  28. Has Bishop Mambo ever been “unhappy” with presidential appointments? He was standing by Chiluba in 1991 (check the pictures of Chiluba’s inauguration) and had sided with mwanawasa and now here he comes in full support of RBB, rightly or wrongly. Please let’s have fresh perspectives on these issues.

  29. I don’t think George Kunda being a lawyer guarantees anything. Let us wait and see how they’ll govern before we send them any accolades. I am disappointed at the dropping of Magande and Masebo. Other than not being supporters of RB from the beginning, I don’t see the rationale. Bringing back politicians like VJ that LPM sidelined (and justifiably so) does not speak highly of RB to me.

  30. I met George Kunda in 1996 when he as a lawyer in Ndola. I was impressed with his humility and gentleness. He is a grat choice fo VP. He will be seen but not heard and he works very hard.

  31. My fellow zambians, learn to appreciate the little and good things that we have….honestly speaking george kunda is the best vp zambia has ever had and will ever have. he is hard working, honesty and intelligent. His name has been clean from laz president, to minister of justice and attorney general to sadc ministers of justice chairman. It clearly shows how hard working a person is. He has had money from ndola before he even became minister so he is not doin it for the money, he is doin it for the poor people of zambia. three of his children studyied abroad even before he was appointed as minister and had the biggest law firm on the copperbelt before he was appointed minister of justice.

  32. He had his mines before going into government and God will kip blessin him because you people keep trying to bring him down instead of accepting reality. Keep working hard gk, we will be here to support you.I know you will make it a better zambia for every one to live in, and God will keep taking you higher because he knows whats good for mother zambia..Please work harder, be the man you are and dont let these devils bring you down….
