Chipata Taxi Driver Puzzles the local community

Share

Police in Chipata had a tough time to control a crowd which besieged the police station this morning after word went round that a taxi which was impounded by police was later found with a coffin placed on top.

Scores of people went to the police station as early as 07 hours to have a glimpse of the coffin which was said to have been placed on top of a vehicle.

One of the residents, Charles Phiri, said the driver of the said taxi was detained after the vehicle he was driving was impounded by police but later on, the detainee disappeared from the cell.

Mr. Phiri who allegedly saw the coffin said that police were shocked to discover that the driver was not in the cells and when they checked where they had placed a driving license which was confiscated from him, it was also not there.

He noted that the continued search for him by police led to the discovery of the coffin which was allegedly placed on top of a vehicle.

But Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Mary Chikwanda, said it was not true that a vehicle had turned into a coffin.

Ms. Chikwanda said the coffin in question was used by police from the traffic section to carry bodies of people who died in Road Traffic Accidents ( RTAs ).

She said the coffin was always being kept at the police station but officers just forgot to take it to the place where it was always kept, when they moved it outside.

But some residents interviewed who were still moving about around the police station by mid-day, did not agree with Ms. Chikwanda, arguing that it was not true that police were keeping the coffin for the purposes of carrying bodies of road traffic accident victims.

They wondered how police would carry more that one body from an accident scene using one coffin if it was true that the coffin was being kept for that purpose.

  2. Kapokola anya lelo, its too much of them let them pay one simple price maybe they will learn not just to detain people of a fault on the car,he lucky its not Katele because the police station would have desappeared

  3. Its sad to hear that but Chipata police are the worst corrupt policemen i have ever seen. Those police men are so corrupy even their police boss know about it, even Mr. Mudeene who has been transferred to Kitwe can be a good witness, I dont know what Raymond Banda at the anti corruption commission is doing there.

  4. That comanding officer is a liar and that unbefitting for a senior officer. Whats the use of body bags (Black polypoplene bags) and ambulances? Very dull C.O

  5. Warning! kwaliba ubuloshe via da net..mind wat you say kuntu ya pompeka aka fumo. nipachipata apa ka. dont think u safe coz you miles away

  7. First time in my life to hear of a coffine been kept at the police station in purpose of accident victims. What a lie, i wonder who cleans up the same coffine when stained my blood of the so called accident victims????? She is the owner of the taxi, why been protective.

  8. iwe #20 just like you name, you will never find out or understand anything even if we tell you. undoubt yoself and maybe we will consider you in our party.

  9. #22 waba efyo ifyashala! you cant answer a simple question like that? all i want to know are the leaders. i may be full of doubt but am not a blind follower kwati iwe. chintu chobe

  10. Funny story, even funnier explanation of a coffin. Only a doctor can certify somebody dead and sign a medical certificate and then you can talk about coffin, What is this with RB people. You don’t walk around with a coffin hopping to put someone in it if there is an accident. Yo use an ambulance for that

  11. I well remember that such strange things are common in mbuyaland. But the police chief shud give a correct answer than tell pipo lies. The question then shud be,has the car been claimed by the owner since it was the driver who was detained?

  12. Hog Wash! Some corrupt Constable released this guy from ‘inside’ and made up this story. Imwe bantu, if this was indeed true, where was our only ZNBC Camera in Chipata considering that we do not get much from there. Wake up and debate real issues. I go with the CO’s explanation even though their operational details are a shocker! That is not the issue at hand here.

Also, do not spend time critisising other bloggers, do you know the cost of bandwith to just waste it like that?

  13. #30 Wantinya boyi,so naiwe ninshi ulifwiti!mwefibantu fyaku Chipata muli fwiti sana, but you can’t beat us Bemba’s tulacofa injinga pa menshi.

  14. I hope Mary Chikwanda (the C.O) does not hail from Katele’s area. She is the one behind all these things.Chipata people were busy watching at no cost at all.Viva Chikwanda.Next time it happens I will rush there to sell some tickets. All she can do is give me enough notice.

  15. #39 I also hear you win bicycle races even when your bicycles have no chains.Congrats guys. Also please help our ailing Chipolopolo boys bring the world cup here.KUTI BATUBELESHA BA BRAZIL NABA FRANCE GUYZ.

  16. #46 no problem we will do our best this time kaili the world cup is now in africa, and where we are rigth now,are the host of the tornament that makes things easy for us.

  17. It’s .2. bad ukutukana, Just talk about that kapokola mukazi, why he is siding INDOSHI. Number 22 are .u. also indoshi .2. say that?

  18. #58 dont play with names for great people. kodi zina lake ndiwe mwamba. back to the topic how did he get out of the cell we need an explanation from mama officer incharge.

  19. I really doubt if it’s witchcraft but the most puzzling question is How do they give such a dry and lame explanation about the coffin? Does the driver go round with the coffin patrolling hoping to find an accident scene? The explanation given is funny and untrue!!!

  20. How can people be lingering at a police station from 7 to 12hrs watching a coffin, thats why muli njala mu zed, too many people with nothing productive to do.

  21. Americans believe in UFOs and aliens, so Africans believe in witchcraft. Only that aliens do not exist but witchcraft can be real to them that indulge in it.

  22. Ifya bupuba! This woman think she can cook up any story and will all fall for it. How does a whole Police dept use one “coffine” to carry accident victimes, how damn is that? My 4 year old nephew has more brains than this woman, thats for sure. Ati ba Police Commanding Officer! Uyu mayo needs to be sacked, what a disgrace to the Zambian Police service. Nonsence!!

  23. Ms Chikwanda you must really be a dull lady, full of ignorance. How did you get to your position which demands sound mind??? mmhhh!!! not even a new born baby can believe you. Think before you say something- you will embarass yourself and the nation. mmmhhh!!! one coffin for various victims??? no ambulances??? body bags (Black polypoplene bags??? mule tusebanya mwe??? Anti-corruption do something, check Chikwanda’s CV properly. Who knows??? may she is right, we are really poor that we don’t have ambulances, body bags etc.

  24. #66, I tend to agree with you, this is rainy season and instead of farming pipo are watching a coffin, of which is of no benefit to anyone. When harvest time comes, there will be no food and everyone will be crying out to the government for handouts. Pipo be real, that coffin is not going to help anyone nor put food on anyone’s table…. for crying out loud it is just wood put together, what is the big deal for able bodied pipo to spend over 5 hours watching it, as if they are watching a movie???? Grow up guys, Zed has bigger problems to handle like, RB approving large salaries for themselves for starters..

  25. # 79 & #66 you are right. I bet there were no school classes on that day. The crazy taxi driver slept in a coffin, waited to be moved outside and escaped. Its sad that the only entertainment is Zambia/Africa is witchcraft and sex…

  26. Eeee lol…ndipo ku chipata nikwa comedy mwe..What’s up with that? The story AND explanation doesn’t even make that much sense.Gosh.

  27. That is not true, Road Traffic Accudent (RTA) Victims (Dead) are not transported to hospital morgues in coffins!! Nowhere in the World do RTA dead people transported in coffins kept at police stations!! Do they was they clean coffins because, these victims bleed profusely!

NI MFWITI, MPHUNO IKULU’S(NYAMA SOYA) BULULUS!!

  28. Uyangana naine ? Ndine mfwiti, manje manje uzankhala ghalu. Yendani cabe ku Police Station uwuzhe bakapokola banzako khuti iliko mfwiti yaikulu yamene iyendesa Taxi.

  29. BA MADAM THERE BANAFAULA. FROM WHAT WE SEE WITH OUR OWN EYES THOSE WHO DIE ON ROAD TRAFIC ACCIDENT ARE CARRIED ON THE STRATCHERS NOT COFFINS, WE SEE THIS EVEN ON TV NEWS.

MADAM IF YOU DO NOT KNOW BE NOT SAY A THING. EASTERNERS ARE EASTERNERS, NIBOCHENJELA. PERHAPS THIS GUY JUST WANTED TO PLAY AROUND WITH BOMA (ZP) OR TO SCARE THEM FOR NOTHING.

  30. yestersday i went to matero police station and found 2 women cops and one policeman very irrisposible in the morning as they as they appeared drank. please lusaka commaning officers check on your cops

  31. If his car turned into a coffin why was it still packed out side the police station.
Poor chap he should learn better business technique.

  32. Imwe banthu, corruption, how can this person have his license, break the cell and also a coffin huh? ka cheap prison GUARD DID THIS. anyway whatever, tell those lazy butts to go to work instead of going around an old coffin apparently used more than a million times according to the madams explanation. It’s sad that people want to talk about witchcraft and spend the whole day doing it. Ulesi chabe. I want to talk about what we can do to get educated people with brains into these governement offices not women and men who used vinena to get the posts. Too much dullnes pa Zed……rubish umfwiti muzilekako

  33. or that tax driver just bribed the officer on duty and the door was opened for him, kabili ba kapokola kuli bribery balwalaor whoever was on duty anakolewa and the driver found his way out.
