Occupy yourselves with developmental activities, RB tells Zambians

Share

President Rupiah Banda has advised Zambians to preoccupy themselves with activities that would promote poverty alleviation and food security in the country.

Mr. Banda said Zambians should devote most of their time cultivating land and planting crops instead of engaging into demonstrations and protests against high mealie meal prices.

He said people of Zambia should make use of the rain season to the maximum and avoid wasting their time in protests.

Referring to the planned demonstration by the opposition Patriotic Front and some organisations over high mealie meal prices, Mr. Banda noted that such kind of acts would scare away investors because they would not want to risk their finances.

He said Zambians must endeavour to keep the country united at all times in order to uphold the attractive investment environment.

President Banda explained that it was for this reason that government was refusing to give permits to allow blanket protests by some political parties and other organisations.

He said this when he arrived for a two day private visit to Chipata today.

He said he was in Luanshya yesterday where he had audience with mine owners and their workers.

He assured them of government’s commitment to keep the mines running and preserve jobs of workers.

  1. I think these demos have contributed to the slumping of the Zambian Kwacha against other currencies.

I agree with RB, investors are nervous when it comes to demos (more especially in Africa).

When Sata lost the elections, the Kwacha gained like crazy. Sata starts threatening demos, the kwacha is slumping.

Somebody stop this man before our nation sinks even lower.

Sata it is rainy season, GO AND FARM. I will pay for gas t drop you off at your farm. ~X(

  2. How do pipo occupy themselves with cultivating the land when there are no inputs. Its like asking sick man to give you medicine that he has got and longing to have.Empower pipo by giving them farming inputs like seeds, fertilezer etc,etc then pipo will be busy.2ndly how can you concentrate or be occupied with something when you are moving or walking with an empty stomach.Give us food you will see us getting busy. Not free food but make food to be affordable evev by the commonest of the most vanerable ones.Do not compare us with yourself and your ministers because you have everything at your disposal and when get sastified you start yapping rubbish.Demo our only hope.

  3. I think this is the most sensible message I’ve heard from him so far…or did someone just write the speech for him?

  4. Whether from the ruling party or the opposition, what we are witnessing in Zambia is a sign of no leadership. What a shame especially after the stint of some good leadership from the late LPM. Indeed LPM made some mistakes but he as much as possible tried to provide the necessary leadership on national issues whenever it was needed. RB is proving to be a failure too early and may go on record as one of the worst things that ever happened to the Zambian leadership.

  5. RB is saying the right thing. Those demoz will just disturb our country. infestors will run and those intending to come will not do so. Please lets go and dip the land to produce more food, thenthe kwacha and price of mealie-meal will come down, OK?

  6. Banda does not not know what he is doing and I am sure he was not even prepared to be present. I just wonder what Levy was thinking when he appointed this Comedian as VEEP. Does’t he know it is his job to come with solutions

In regard to Demos over the prices of food and especially mealie meal I do not think that is the way forward. If people are not satisfied with Banda and the MMD their is a chance to kick them out and that is during the 2011 elections

No that is not Mpezeni. Just an old guy who I cant even recognise.
I concur with those supporting not to demo. The Word “RIGHT” is being misused nowadays. Let us support each other. United we stand.**==**==**==**==**==**==

  8. If Sugar Daddy thinks demonstrations are not the answer, he must tell us what he intends to do about the mealie meal prices that are hitting K90 000 per bag.

  9. IT SEEMS RB HAS NOTHING TO PREACH TO ZAMBIANS ABOUT. ITS ALWAYS DON’T DEMONSTRATE DONT’ DEMONSTRATE. OF ALL THINGS HAPPENING IN ZAMBIA RB SEES AND FEELS THE DEMO BY PF IS THE MOST IMPORTANT. THIS GUY IS VERY INSECURE AND THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS TO HAVE. NO WONDER WE ARE SAYING THE HEAD OF STATE SHOULD BE VOTED FOR BY 50 PLUS 1. I FEEL PF SHOULD EVEN CALL OFF THE DEMO AND THEN WE SHALL SEE WHAT THE GUY WILL TALK ABOUT. RB NEVER DREAMT, IMAGINED, EXPECTED OR EVEN HAD A FAINTEST IDEA THAT ONE DAY HE MAY LEAD ZAMBIA. NOW THAT IS WHEN IT IS SINKING IN HIS HEAD AND TOO BAD IT MAY TAKE A WHILE BEFORE WE SEE ANYTHING OUT OF HIM. MAYBE WE SHALL NEVER SEE ANYTHING OUT OF HIM AFTER ALL.

  10. DEMOS ARE CONDUCTED BY PEOPLE WHO FEEL THAT THERE IS LEADERSHIP LACKING OVER CERTAIN ISSUES. RB IS LACKING LEADERSHIP QUALITIES AS REGARDS THE MEALIE MEAL PRICES, NO WONDER PEOPLE WILL DEMONSTRATE. ALL YOU AGAINST DEMOS, WHAT IS RB’s SOLUTION TO THE MEALIE MEAL ISSUE SO THAT PEOPLE WILL NOT FOLLOW PF TO DEMONSTRATE. THE ISSUE OF RISING MEALIE MEAL PRICES IS ALMOST GOING TO BE ONE MONTH OLD AND WHAT HAS RB DONE ABOUT IT. THE DEMO AMONG OTHER THINGS WILL BE TO HIGHLIGHT THE LACK OF LEADERSHIP OVER THIS PROBLEM. WHY IS RB JITTERLY. IT OWES ITSELF TO POOR MANDATE THAT HE WAS GIVEN BY THE ILLETERATE RURAL VOTE. HE IS SWEATING FOR STEALING VOTES NOW, NO SWEATLESS SWEET IN LIFE.

  11. #18 How do you blame aba ku Rural to have given Banda the votes, when within his party MMD he was voted to represent them in the elections. The problem is that we do not just have leaders in Zambia who are capable of leading and that is why we shall continue being lead by id..iots like Banda simply because we are id..iots as well. For me there is no difference between Banda and Sata, for they are both id..iots. Look at Sata’s party, there are have never been elections within the party since the old quack formed the party. He behaves as though he owns the party, how can that be possibe in a civilised society.

We need new blood with five senses to save our country from total destraction.

  12. cont.. of the current party leaders there is no one qualified to lead Zambia, but I know there are people in Zambia who can do better. Now that we have tried with 4 men, it is time we gave chance to women and see what they can do

  13. These shallow statements by government officials really make my heart itch(for lack of appropriate term to describe the feeling.Kwena even a grade one can READ out this speech!why not make speeches that actually have value, this is not a 1+1=2 problem. U inssinuate that those people planning to protest

    1. Have land or can afford to purchase land
    2. Have farming equipement and other inputs required to grow food.

Pliz mu le landa na mano maybe u should challenge people by offering a few essentials needed for cultivation and see who is actually willing to come forward!

  14. It is easy to be a president in Africa. All you have to do is tell pple to go and cultivate whether they have fertiliser or not.

Easy! Even my nanny can be president of an African country!

    Ho Ho Ho!

  15. People saying investors are weak in mind or are imbeciles its only here in zambia where foreigner is respected. One day in zambia u shall lose peace & being a president does not mean whatever u say is wise.mind your phrase & dont underestimate zambians.Learn to listen military coups are supported bravelly

  16. This is funny.. Mr. Banda said Zambians should devote most of their time cultivating land and planting crops instead of engaging into demonstrations and protests against high mealie meal prices.

However, it are mainly the people in the urban areas, who are complaining about the high mealie meal prices, since they do not have access to land in town!

  17. lets not be crying about seeds.what happened to keeping the best cobs for planting in the next farming season? you cant just sell everything and expect manna from heaven the next time you want to plant? people in towns, if you have nothing to do go ku munzi there’s plenty of land there.i dont think anyone with a 9-5 job or to a serious way of making moey would drop everything and go to engage in such juvenile activities.ppl should realise that with every window they break and every shop they loot, they pull the country backward.

  18. Easier said than done. GRZ needs to provide an enviroment condusive enough. I bet you a lot of Zedians would be more than willing to take an advantage of it. Given the current state, mubepelefye.

  19. they so called “investors” are contributing to the current situation by paying 300pin as wages. what can u do with 300pin when mealie meal is at 80pin? we better off without them at the moment because they are just extinguishing our resource. These resource can be put to good use in the future when we have creditable leaders who put the plight of zambians first!

  20. Ba banda, developmental activities like rigging elections, failing to rule the country, marrying tuma young ladies, etc ka????

Guys by the way wats da first lady (Ba Thandie) up to?? I ;ve not heard of hope or Banda foundation, at least even da Iron Choco Chanel lady did sumtig, mukwai njipusheko??? 😕

  21. Rb understand da situation we are in, poor cde in grz gets as low as 4zali per month. How do they manage look at thier budget. 1 ubunga 2bags 140pin 2 house rentals 120pin mugetto lighting -chacoal etc 80pin transport 40pin only ndeyo zamasamba 40pin all 4zali gone without all the life necesities and yet rb is saying no demos why. Weather sata hh or rb we hav serious problems that are not attended to.i know grz workers are feadup with feak promises.
