The price of mealie meal in some retail shops in Solwezi has been increased.
A check by ZANIS in the Township revealed that a 25kg bag of breakfast mealie meal has gone up from K65,000 to K68,000 at Antelope and Mwamba Family Shops, while at another retail outlet the commodity was being sold at K70,000.
The price of a 25kg bag of roller melie meal is ranging from K50,000 to K57,000 in some shops.
According to some traders talked to, the price of mealie meal was increased by the millers where they buy the commodity from.
Meanwhile the susponsion of sale of maize by FRA to the local community in Solwezi still stnds until all measures to restrict the commodity from being sold outside the country were put in place.
Provincial Agriculture Co-coordinator, Charles Sondashi, confirmed that the sale of the maize was still suspended because some traders, who were given the opportunity to purchase the maize in bulk, had taken it to Kipushi boarder post for reselling at a higher price.
Mr. Sondashi mentioned that Zambians were struggling to produce food for citizens and there was no way some selfish people would take it to feed outsiders.
Mr. Sondoshi stressed that the selling of maize by the FRA would commerce as soon as all measurres were put in place with the stakeholders.

I just read somewhere that President RB Banda is now ready to go on holiday because Mealie-Meal prices had been reduced. How about this prices increase development in Solwezi?
It is sad that price of mealie meal has continued to rise. I feel that this problem is not as a result of RB being president- this problem could have been there if Sata or HH won. I think as a nation we need to look at other cheaper alternative starch foods like cassava and millet

Not everyone offcourse voted for Nyama Soya, but the so called majority especially in rural voted for him. They were told if you vote for Sata will kill all the old people especially those that were non productive and will bring war. #148, a good leader’s work lives long after he has departed. Sata is a bully and each time he leaves a ministry people get back to their old ways. Is that leadership? Lusaka city council employees celebrated when Sata was removed because he used to shout at them like little kids. One Minister who I know performs is Hon. Kalombo Mwansa. He is quiet but usually effective in every Ministry he has taken up. Sylvia Masebo was equally good and so was Magande. But the real performer during his poltical career was Kebby Musokotwane. He explained policies to people so that people understood where they were going and got motivated to continue with the policies.
I am off to my farm now. Its time to plant. May be we can contribute towards ending hunger and bring the prices of food down. That way, we can help our elderly live happily. I wished my old man Sata would also follow suit.

ZAMBIANS yesterday welcomed the reduction in the prices of fuel and mealie meal and urged the Government to continue working tirelessly to improve the people’s standards of living.
