RB dates Northern Province

President Rupiah Banda is expected in Kasama tomorrow for a four-day official visit during which he will, among others, inspect the abandoned tourism infrastructure at Kasaba Bay in Mpulungu District.

Acting Northern Province Permanent Secretary Gabriel Kaunda confirmed the development to Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Kasama today.

Mr. Kaunda said the President is expected to touch down at Kasama Airport at 16:30 hours tomorrow before proceeding to Kasama Lodge where he will have a meeting with MMD party officials.

He said on Wednesday morning President Banda leaves for Chitimukulu in Mungwi district to pay a courtesy call on the paramount chief.

Mr. Kaunda said Mr. Banda will later return to Kasama to officially open the Provincial Auditor General’s office in the afternoon.

He said in the evening, the President will have a meeting with church leaders at Kasama lodge.

Mr. Kaunda further said the President will leave for Kasaba Bay on Thursday morning to inspect infrastructure and return to Kasama for a night stop.

President Banda will on Friday morning inspect works on the Kasama-Luwingu and Kasama-Mporokoso road projects before flying back to Lusaka in the afternoon.

The acting PS has since appealed to Kasama residents to give President Banda a thunderous welcome by turning up in numbers to welcome him when he arrives tomorrow.

  15. RB is visiting those areas where he received the most votes. But its not suppose to be like that. He is the republican president and i think Copperbelt province is in dire need his presense. Everyone is looking up to him for answers and encouragement.

    RB is not likely to go to Copperbelt voluntarily. That is a strong PF stronghold. He only stays here in Lusaka because this is where the official residence is. If he had a choice, no doubt statehouse would be in Eastern Province. Not that I would complain if that would be the only way of ensuring that visible development is brought to the area.

When Levy died he travelled through out the country taking the body of the late president, during campaigns he went round the country in the chopper and what does he want to find in Northern province when people are losing jobs? He is behaving as if he is on honey moon. We need big decisions that will positively contribute to better living standards of our people. He has started campaigning again

All the pictures we see are for him posing as father christmas with lots of food and drink. I think he needs advice on how to work in that busy office. You don’t solve problems by jumping from place to place. He visited all these places during campaigns and he knows what is obtaining. The economy of Zambbia as you hugely depends on copper sales for its forex and since there are many looming job losses there, I would have expecetd the President to spend time and provide hope the people of the copperbelt.

    According to business sense we should not expect an increase in tourists to go to Kasaba guys!!!!!!!

  97. The move the president as his team are taking towards developing tourism and agriculture are positive steps in the right direction.
    This is good especially in view of the problems affecting copper prices.
    We need to diversify our economy and begin to encourage more manufacturing too so that even the copper can be converted into various finished products so that we can address the problem not only of low copper prices but also that of creation of employment.
    We also need to look serious at precious metals which may not suffer so much from the falling prices due to the economic crisis.
    In terms of agric we need to encourage food processing so that apart from adding value to exports…

  106. I also hope that those who may end up loosing jobs in the mines and will get their benefits should consider investing in farming, including fish farming, and pineaple, coffee, tea, cotton, and many other types of cash crop farming.
    It will not be enough to think we are diversifying our economy by going into farming when all we grow is maize.
    We have to be more serious about all types of farming. In fact God has blessed this country in such a way that almost anything can be grown on our soil. Agricultural diversity has capacity to sustain our economy even without mining.

  141. So what has the Minister of Tourism been doing all this time. How is his performance why are we still paying him with Zambians Tax Payers money. His job is not just to append signatures on documents brought to his office. He needs to be a strategic thinker /planner and a man of action. We need to evalutae his performance. These Cabinet Ministers/MP’s/ Permanet secretaries etc need to submit their quarterly reports to the Zambian people, we need to know what they are accomplishing. We can’t just be paying salaries and we do not know what we are paying them for.

Zambia`s economy has been on life support for a long time by simply relying on mining for sustenance.RB must keep up the good work of trying to diversify our economy.With the recent slump in the copper price,we`ve seen our economy severely affected.Zambia`s economy can be strengthened by resuscitating sectors such as agriculture,tourism and manufacturing.

  171. African leaders. They are always in party attire. Why not be Republican Presidents at least for once? MMD is not the government. These leaders must learn to tackle issues as republican Presidents, not party leaders all the time. Put on those party attires when you go for party matters only. Please.

  172. The Inoguration(sp) speech by RB, he dwelled more on Tourism. It seems thats his pre-occupation and focus. Yes I understand tourism is a money spinner but it has to go hand in hand with good roads, infrastructure, airlinks etc not just rehab of lodges. There are more problems on the mines thats where efforts must be doubled. Unless NyamaSoya says he want to move the miners retrenched into tourism spots to be employeed. But I doubt it NyamaSoya not that clever it is more probable he wants places to go and doze off!!!!

I personally wanted RB to win when elections were on…But I feel he is probably slipping in the polls…he is too lax in his leadership…and it is my position that maybe someone like Miyanda should have been given a chance…he isn’t too threatening however…I very much doubt his economic policies…RB is okay for he has “reason”…But at the end of the day Zambia wont progress with him…I think we are all at a stand still…and all the pesimissim that came with Mwanawasa will die with him and things will return to how they where with Chiluba..instead focusing on education, health care and promoting social welfare…he seems to pre-occupied with decorating Zambia….
