Eleven impersonators nabbed

Share

Eleven suspects have been arrested and formally charged with obtaining pecuniary advantage by false pretences and impersonating public officers.

This follows investigations into the matter involving seven people from the copperbelt province who were staying at a named lodge in Chilenje township in Lusaka purporting that President Rupiah Banda will appoint them into the foreign service.

Acting Inspector General of Police, Francis Kabonde that a named Ndola based magistrate, his wife who is a senior police officer and a civilian were the master minders of the scam.

He explained that the three duped four police officers into believing that they would provide security to those appointed in diplomatic services, forcing the officers to proceed on leave.

Mr. Kabonde said further investigations have proved that the accused persons have been staying at the named lodge from 18th December last year to 8th January this year.

He said all the accused persons will appear in court Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. Kabonde said investigations have also established that none of the accused persons are related to the first family as alleged.

The acting Inspector General of Police has strongly warned that his office will not allow anyone to bring the President’s name into ridicule.

  1. Honestly, how can such a thing happen? One begins to wonder if the president had promised jobs to these poeple. But i strongly feel they should be punished.

  2. If it is the Ndola Magistrate I know who was conned then he won’t appear in court because he has already passed away. He died of shock after being told that the man – Mr. Banda just conned him.

This Mr. Banda has just been conning pipo.

  3. I just cant understant the motive too. Whatever this means anyway. But i think whoever is behind this will come back to light.

  4. There is no way these people including the magistrate can be liars. NyamaSoya must have promised them something and backed down due to potential scandle. The Govt., owned & state controlled Times & Daily Mail papers have not adquately covering this story. Can the POST please pick it up and dig deeper. We dont want headlines of “a named group of people were staying at a named lodge” this does not make jounalistic sense to me.Zed Jounalists mostly half baked!! There is no legal litigation fear over the truth. It cant hold’in court.

    Mpagula Mputyu.

  5. “SPEAKER of the National Assembly Amusaa Mwanamwambwa has turned down Patriotic Front (PF)’s request to declare vacant the 16 seats occupied by its ‘rebel’ members of parliament.

And PF president Michael Sata yesterday said he had instructed his lawyers to challenge the Speaker’s refusal in the High Court.”…

  6. Buenos dias amigos. soy numero diez. well, you have to be clever to make a living these days. ninshiku shakwa Noah.

  7. Mwashibukeni po bonse mwebana bakwa Lesa. Sharp Shooter, Matworld and Tionge how are you today?. Pipo are you sure thses guys where imposters, imagine a person using the president’s name. Since when? Twebenifye ifishinka.

  8. Bane iyi ninsala fye. necessity is the mother of all inventions! I like their bravity! This is real Ghostlike spirit…..

  9. Am thousands of KMs awya from home and listening t Yatsani. Funny and yet melancholic listening to the tribalised accents of the english of the presenters.

  10. This is just more of wishful thinking and dreamland attitude..
    Bring them to book.
    Impersonation is criminal offence. :-t:-t:-t:-t:-t:-t

  11. #6 This Mr. Banda (not the President) had a case so he asked for favours from the courts and promised them foreign jobs after being cleared of his case. He told the magistrate to look for pipo he could work with into foreign service. Information told is that the wife – had a party at work.

  12. I would side with No 9.People cannot just go to a place and say the government is going to pay for their stay. My question is what were these people doing in Lusaka? What is that almost come from the same sector? (Police Magistrate….) Are they closely linked? If all of these and other questions cannot be answered then someone called them. MMD will do something today one group will deny the other group will will accept. Remember the Lukuku story? And the security wings are not there to do their Jobs only wait until the Post has dug something for them. Sad.==**

  13. # 6 The conman asked the magistrate to assist him in the case he had and promissed that after the case the conman would find the magistrate a job in the foreign service because he (conman) is relative to the president.

  14. Eleven impersonators nabbed here on LT. They will appear in court soon. LT management and some bloggers have instructed their lawyers to go ahead with the cases and getting convictions is the ultimate. 😕

  15. Ben,
That kind of makes sense. There is no way these people can have the confidence to do that. RB is a corrupt man. This govt. owee, somebody help.

  16. I like that we need sharp brains like that which only exists in crime novels, too bad the law has caught up on you,so tapali staring :d

  17. There is no smoke without fire, and just imagine, how can such a big number of people with no police record be involved in such a scam??? there must be some truth in what they are saying. Lets wait and see. GOOD MORNING BLIGGERS???

  18. Imwe sure these people can’t lie they are just victims of circumstances courtesy of Nyama soya. Most of the accused in this matter have good credentials like magistrate, senior police officer, economist and an accountant do you really believe that these people would just work up one day and decide to leave their jobs and go and squat in a guest house in Chilenje for nothing. These guys were promised jobs and its like nyama soya felt the heat somewhere and decided to dump them. I mean with the current convictions in court of corrupt crooks who wouldn’t. This is just a tip of an iceberg. 8-|8-|8-|

  19. Why would a magistrate, Police officer in charge of police station, economist and an accountant give up their jobs to go and squat in a guest house in Chilenje??? There were serious promises to these people but as fate has it, their are caught in this situation due to circumstances caused by the death of the other magistrate. Life goes on…………

  20. I want to advise RB that, he should come out clean with these people because if you cause injury to someone you need to say sorry otherwise it will haunt you because the victim will be cursing each time the issue comes to their memory. It is allowed to promise but when you cant fulfil the promise tell the concerned immediately to avoid incoveniencing them. In life your deeds follow you to the grave……

  21. **==
the wife was p/incharge at kansenshi police and the husband @ HQ-Ndola, its shameful!! bt the wife claims to be RB’s relative!!!

  22. Watching the 10 on TV one gets the impression they know they will walk Scott free from this one. K24m/10=2.4m each. And it isn’t money you are getting as cash and is totally not worth it!

They must have had spending money in cash from “Somewhere”. I smell a rat that will soon be buried.

  23. This can only happen in Africa !!

“Ndola based magistrate, his wife who is a senior police officer and a civilian were the master minders of the scam.”

Let me Constitutionalise this Case : Judiciary +
Executive + the people (Civilian) = SCAM!!!

I think this is a shame to our Constitution believe me!!

  24. #9. What “Post dig deeper”? The Post has conveniently turned the blind eye to the Zambian Airways saga. That one litmus test that will expose the Post for who they really are.

  25. Ba Post nabakota, they are no longer digging as they used to. Maybe us bloggers shoul come up with a tabloid. and maybe be call it The Quest, then later on obtain a loan and start an airline to be called Air Zambia. JUs dreaming since everyone in leadership is sleepping.

  26. #43 life life. These people are not imposters. Like you said the man forgot that he had asked relatives to prepare to go NY for postings in Foreign Service. Imagine a magistrate and a senior police officer. You think these can sink so low as to stay in brothel in Chilenje? Jst think deeply.

  27. Are these the same people that booked 26 one way tickets to New York via Hongkong with Cathay Pacific for 6. and 7. of January 2009 for a total of 186.000 US-Dollars in the name of the State House?

  28. I call upon all metal products of all generations to donate some funds towards this.

He said the school had sunk five boreholes but did not have hand pumps and other accessories for the boreholes to become operational.

Kakumbi said Chizongwe Technical High School was not connected to Eastern Water and Sewerage Company.

He also said the school was in need of funds to rehabilitate the school hall, which he said was in a dilapidated state.

Kakumbi further urged former pupils to help address the problems the school was facing.

“We need help from well-wishers, former Chizongwe pupils and the government to urgently address these problems,” Kakumbi said.

  29. Seeing those guys on TV, I amazed at how they managed to convince the lodge owners. Did they think if they provide the services then the lodge will be declared a presidential lodge. Where in Chilenje is this logde anyway?

  30. # 51 are you Ex Chizongwe??????

If you follow Ba Banda traits from the time he started campaigning, all that he has done done is lying. Even a Grade 1 would tell that these people where conned and you know by who. I hope and pray the Post will sharpen their excavating tools and get to the bottom of this.

  31. #17 Ba Evelyn King!

    Ndifye bwino!! ngaimwe mulishani?

Hello all fellow bloggers!! Rashid jones, Baby C,Jamaco,ZambiaYesu,Cutey,Kanono Kasai,Dejavu and indeed all bloggers.

This story makes a sad reading.Let these people fsce the wrath of the law.

#51(Chizzy Metal)When did you complete coz iam also a Metal Product?.

  32. This scam started in september. Three of these people mobilised themselves to work for nyama soya and the appointments were to be their reward. These are not the only people he promised, but sadly for them the con continued. Magistrate Tembo died of BP when he realised it was going nowhere. The major culprit will not own up, but take my word, this case is going nowhere. In fact i wont be surprised if they are even compensated privately. Back to colonial and village mentality. MULIMBE!!!!!!!!!

  33. I pity u all pathetic fellows. In our rules of engagement no one can afford such kind of a scandal. Anyhow let me caution all ye bloggers not to use the word ‘impersonating’ loosely coz guys like Katele can have a lot to say about this. Remember how he went scientific in his native laboratory coming up with state of the art gadgets that made Bill Gates go green with envy?

S Livni is on line. Let me give the updates of Hamas bombardments. Out o’ here!

  34. Investigate the matter thoroughly, only Njaala can reduce the alleged culprit, otherwise it might jus turn out to be true.

  35. Surely, respected people cannot just cook up a story like that! But its very unfortunate that we have even lost one Chipata man! ababantu, tabakosa, nibambuli sana one wonders why their relative disowned them iyeeeee sure ifwe kumwesu twaikatana nga ama john cena (amabanzi) not those Chipata chaps who are like vitumbuwa (fritters) but I know for sure that, bamwine contributed something to the funeral of his late nephew TULAMWEBA MULEKOSA FISANGA ABAUME!
bye am heading to Malole at Chitimukulu’s palace to inform him about the funeral

  36. seven persons with different backgrounds, careers and aspirations in life wake up one day and each on his own accord and separately travel to lusaka’s chilenje township and book a room in the same lodge (kwa-zulu?, all siting the same reason that the great nyama has called them for possible appointments into the foreign service. is it possible that all the seven ,individually and separate, can come up with the same con move? if this is possible then we need experts in UFOs to come to zambia and interrogate and study these persons as they surely saw, talked and got promises from an ET with the same body form and voice as the graet nyama.

  37. Their must be a reason behind people..lets wait and see what is going to happen. There was an Agreement between them and a liar.It will be very easy,to find a source since we have already found the Disease.

  38. #11, we said this before that the speaker will ignore Sata. What next na Sata. Your party and your authority in the party is finished. Dictators don’t last forever. Do you remeber the story of the big bully? This is Sata’s case. Bwafya ba Sata, ama plotics yakukopa yalishupa. Just because Kafupi became President from a kaponya background you also think you can – sorry you can’t and you won’t. We learnt enough about kaponyas from our bad experience with Kafupi. Kapeneni ukutali not mu Zambia ba kaponya.

  39. THE POLICE SHOULD TELL THE NATION THE TRUTH.MR RB ALSO NEEDS TO COME OUT IN THE OPEN AND DISTANCE HIMSELF FROM THE SCANDAL.LOOKING AT THE WAY MR RB HAS CONDUCTED HIMSELF I PERSONALLY FEEL HE KNOWS SOMETHING AND WANTS US TO BELEIVE HE IS NOT INVOLVED.ZEDIANS LETS NOT FORGET WHAT THIS MAN DID DURING ELECTION CAMPAIGNS,HE IS ACTUALLY CAPABLE OF PROMISING JOBS AS THE CASE IS NOW.

  40. Impersonation of any kind is a serious offence and I am very sure our police chief is fully aware of this fact.

But what puzzles me is that when the same offence is committed by Titus Mpundu, impersonating Fredrick Chiluba of then Ndola to get a job at Atlas Copco Limited, it is interpretted differently. Why is this ba ZP? :((:((:((

  41. Actually who were these people impersonating? RB or the people who were actually promised the jobs by RB? No one has explained how this whole thing amounts to impersonation. Watch the space before one of them picks up a dictionary in court to read out the correct meaning of the word impersonation and walk away to his freedom.

  42. What nosense….nyama soya knows it. He just forgot about them . Sad for the people…Iyee ubulanda!!1 [-([-([-([-([-([-([-([-([-([-(

  43. The 9 are not entirely blameless. They, too, are crooks and corrupt. Why did they depend on promised jobs they didn’t deserve in the first place? This Zambian mentality of getting favours through dubious means must be done away with.
