Singogo granted bail

Share

Former Zambia Air Force commander, Christopher Singogo, who was sentenced to six years in prison on Monday, has been granted a K50 million bail in his own cognizance.

Lieutenant General Singogo was granted bail on Friday morning by Lusaka Chief Resident Magistrate, Charles Kafunda, after hearing his bail application.

Two working sureties were produced and each charged twenty-five million kwacha.

General Singogo has also surrendered his passport after being granted bail.

Meanwhile, General Singogo’s lawyers have appealed against the six year jail sentence.

General Singogo was on Monday sentenced to six years imprisonment with hard labour after being convicted on two counts of charges of theft by public servant and abuse of authority of office.

Lt Gen Singogo is also facing another abuse of authority case before magistrate Aridah Chulu.
The matter has since been closed awaiting judgment next month.”

  2. interesting law. if you want to commit a crime do it in a white shirt, possibly with a white collar.

we should all live in the west and see how long it takes to take a case to court and how difficult it is to get a conviction.

  3. #7 Nine Lives. Ku mbrazo it takes long to take a case to court but they are thorough such that when the case goes to court, they almost always secure a conviction. Look at the case of Conrad Black. It took long but pa last balimupeta kapala. The problem with us is that there is a corrupt element right from investigations to the court process.

  11. I really feel pity for the family. He is a general for all i know but what psychological stress he is under and going through only him knows. this is enough to tear his spirits. God protect his family ,this is my prayer.

  12. By the time Singogo is through with the appeal process all the way to the Supreme Court he will hate lawyers, will be broke and will wish he never appealed at all in the first place.
This is a lesson to those who wield transient power and think they can make a living through theft and graft.
