ACC develops new anti-corruption strategy

Share

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has repositioned itself in a new plan to further boost the fight against corruption in Zambia.

The new plan is going to run for the next five years starting from this year.

ACC Valentine Chileshe said the new strategic vision was aiming at embracing many stakeholders and people in broadening the fight against corruption.

Justice Chileshe said the commission has recorded progress towards achieving a number of milestones which were aimed at improving its management and operational capacity during the just ended strategic period which ran between 2004 an 2008.

He expressed confidence that through the new strategic plan, the commission will be able to address the challenges it faced between 2004 and 2008, especially with government’s commitment to the fight against corruption.

And Permanent Secretary for Management Development Division (MDD) at Cabinet office, George Kawatu, said the implementation of the strategic plan or lack of it will not only have an impact on the ACC’s capability to fight corruption but on the wider concept of governance.

Speaking at the same occasion same occasion, British High Commissioner to Zambia, Tom Carter said the international community regarded Zambia as a model in the fight against corruption.

Mr. Carter disclosed that the British government is ready to provide continued support to the commission through funding from the Department For International Development (DFID), which has since provided seven million British pounds to the ACC.

  1. Goodmorning bloggers. Pa Zed, kaya – the problem is jobs, Contracts cant be given on merit, its whom you know pa last ni corrupt (VAT). na ma salaries yaliko bad, ma rentals, ma school fees, etc. awe sure.

  2. Acc should know that, a goal without a plan , coupled with fear is just a wish! who are they fulling? Justice shoild prevail

  3. Baby C morning.

The trouble is salaries are very low pa Zed. When things weren`t this bad, it was very difficult to bribe people or there was no need at all. We just lost it somehow.

Much as I would like this corruption to end, it is very unlikely at the stage we have reached.

    May be ama prayers.

  8. For as long as I have followed the news there have been two issues that have perennially been in the news; The onflict in the middle east and this so called Anti Corruption Commission that has no big achievements to note.
Maybe I just need to open my eyes more but I really think that office hasn’t done too much good.

  9. good morning everyone, this thing you call Corruption i think it needs to be explained.people should know what corruption is and what a tip is…

  10. Zoe so am I.:d

Looks like we have talked about this topic before one way or the other.

I better greet a few more people.

Morning Matworld, Ba Moze, Gazzie, Akokanono ba Nevers, Sony Ericsson Phiri, Ba Maureen but the one person I would “start” is the one and only LT award winner Zoe. 😉

  11. We discussed this topic sometime last year! so its a bit boring! :o):o):o):o):o):o):o):o):o):o):o):o):o):o):o):o):o):o):o)

  12. When our own award winner comes on the scene…give him a thunderous welcome! I mean :o)>:d<:*:x<:-p@};-**==:-h =d> and not:-t

  13. Goodmorning 3RqU ! How have you been and how are the preps for the inauguration of the ‘World’s Most Powerful Man’ going. I am so excited

  14. I hope it works. But we dont need pastors such as those on Radio Phoenix now. Has any heard their deliberations, Its sad

  15. We have heard this far too much. We Zambians too docile thats why the Political Appointees keep cheating us to please their masters. Let them get Chiluba, Regina, Chungu, Kabwe and others in Jail then we shall believe them.
THERE CASES HAVE TAKEN LONG & costly when straight forward. The accussed crooks always feign illnesses with impunity to keep away from court but micraculasly address press conferences where they pour scorne on the Govt.,

  16. A PhD graduate and an ordinary man went on a camping trip, set up their tent and fell asleep. Some hours later, the ordinary man woke up his PhD friend: “Look up at the sky and tell me what you see?”

The PhD man replies: “I see millions of stars.” The ordinary man asks: “What does that tell you?”

The PhD guy ponders for a minute: “Astronomically speaking, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, it tells me that Satan is in Leo. Time wise, it appears to be approximately a quarter past three. Theologically, it’s evident the Lord is all-powerful and we are small and insignificant. Meteorologically, it seems we will hav

  17. Hope this does not lead to even more organized Corruption!! Normally this should have not even been announced publicly!!!

We want to catch them Infragranti !!

    :d

  18. New strategy may also mean you failed the last time. However you look at it the crusade against corruption is simply producing more corrupt elements along the way like a cancerous tumor. You simply cannot cut it out completely without severing the sensitive tissues. Well that language can best be understood by those who aren’t lazy to think things through. No offence to charterboxes.

  19. Baby C

Finish the story and make sure you put some flavour, make one of the two a lady, alright. Hoping that all is in order, okei.

  20. Goodmorning 3RqU, Guten Morgen Jamaco
Goodmorning Sony Ericsson, Baby C, Zoe, Luapula Fish, Rashid Jones, ba Maureen & all others…I hope you’re all fine today.

Whew! I feel better now. So let me read on & comment soon…:)

  21. Imwe ba Fishy you want to disturb the waters, you will not manage to catch a single fish you so shhhhhi, quiet, just put on the light.

  22. GaZZie says, MUZUHILE bloggers.

Now, this ACC will only have meaniful value to all and sundry if the appointing authority ceases to be some politicians.
For, how do you expect me to investigate with vigour somebody that appointed me?
What we need is an autonomous body to appoint impartial pipo and then, you can talk about a ‘new anti-corruption strategy’.

    GaZZie rests his case

  23. Rashid Jones, nili che, mwana. I wish I could spend more time on the blogg but this week is rough. I will be on the move soon…

  24. # 90 Nine Chale.. Moin

Hey with today’s Internet you can even write Chinese without really knowing the language!!

    Baby C has Tricks :d

  25. I wonder what kind of strategy this is now. Anyway, the formula remains the same: the wider the gap between the rich & the poor, the more corruption in a society.
Who amongst us would line up for a new passport if he had a million dollars on his/her account?:d

  26. Zoe, am doing fine, dear. Congrats for being nambala 100!!!
You think LT is dry? Not as long as you, Baby C & the other lovely bloggers are still around!:) We keep LT fire burning…

  27. [-([-([-([-([-([-([-(8->8->8->8->8->8->8-> The space is boring no news. Insatiable news appetite remains unquenched:((:((:-??:-??

  28. Botswana is cited as a rare example of an African country which has not allowed its natural wealth (in diamonds) to undermine high standards of governance. The country’s position in the Corruption Perceptions Index is more favorable than many European countries.

  29. The strategy should be user friendly, so the cici society need to be part and parcel of each step of the developmental process. It can not succeed as long as its covered in too many wraps polythene bags. Transparency ba Chileshe!!! Share the strategy and you will gain civil support.

  30. 21. Baby C, 33. Rashid Jones, ect thanks for everything especially the concern. I left for Freiburg, Germany, for an afternoon meeting. I only arrived back here around 19 hrs and hence my rareness on the blog. However, my work has increased and I will be rare constantly although I will try to be here from time to time to offer expert advice.
On “The new plan is going to run for the next five years starting from this year”, this is great ACC, we need to operate on 5 year plans so that everything has a touch of the elected officers’ period.
