Stanbic bank customers to buy phone airtime from ATMs

Share

Stanbic Bank Zambia has entered into partnership of mobile top up with two mobile phone service providers, MTN and ZAIN Zambia limited.

Stanbic Marketing Manager, Irene Musonda, said the services only favoured the Stanbic Bank account holders.

Ms. Musonda disclosed this today when her bank demonstrated to the journalists how people can top up their mobile phones without going to a shop to buy mobile top up.

She said the new service will enable MTN and ZAIN Zambia mobile subscribers to top up their phone accounts through the auto banks.

This initiative since been appreciated by most of the Stanbic Bank account holders because it is convenient to use and the service is available 24 hours a day through out the week.

Customers will be recharging their mobile phone accounts by inserting an ATM card into the auto bank, following the on screen prompts and selecting the desired amount from their network provider.

“After following those instructions, you take your voucher as confirmation of your transaction. Use the voucher to manually top up your mobile phone as you would normally,” she said.

Ms. Musonda further said the service was available at all Stanbic branches throughout the country.

  1. Ok !! At least there is development!! Many Banks is Germany offer these services. I am happy to hear that we are going toe to toe. Technology at its best. Keep it up

  3. This is NOT development! Atase!
They are taking away employment from people who were selling ‘talk time’ in the kiosks!
Besides, spending money on ‘talk time’ is a wasting asst and should not be encouraged. It is so addictive. You find poor people on cell phones talking endlessly in conversations that will not put a Ngwee in their bank account!

  4. 9. VOTE RIGGER Every person has the right to decide as whether to use the service or not!! After all it does not mean that you will only get Airtime from the Bank!!

Yes this is development. Like it or not!! It is a way froward. Thanks

  5. One more thing! Avoid the issue of placing ma ATM machines near drnking places esp ba Barclays tamwaka tusungile abana ba sop.

  6. Please do not look at ATM Machines as if they are Aliens!! Know why they are there first and analyze your priorities !!

ONLY IF YOU HAVE MONEY IN THE BANK!!

OTHERWISE THEY ARE OF NO USE TO YOU IF YOU ARE ALWAYS BROKE !!!

  7. So what added value do we get from this? As a businessman, I buy talk time only once a month (k600,000). What I expect from the banks is to give support to SMEs like us. By so doing they will encourage creation of more employment. What I get whenever I go to the bank is the old story of collateral, ‘good’ balance sheet and how long I have been in business. When are banks ever going to realise that as a start-up I will have no collateral and my balance sheet won’t be attractive. I currently have a contract ending 2013 with a reputable international company, have 36 employees and a turnover of k600m/month but no bank wants to talk to me about expansion so I remain small.

  9. Again. Please do not be mislead!! This is News for those with Money in the Bank!!

If you have no Money there then S H U T U P!! Let those rejoice who have use for it.

It does not help the poor !! Ching Ching $-)$-)$-)$-)$-)$-)

  10. Why should i leave all the tutembas near me and go to ATMs? they should emulate ZANACO were u can top up using the phone-now that is convenient.

  11. Am not a fan of pre-paid phones. I think providers just steal customers money and they are very expensive to maintain. Also its a waste of paper-those cards need to be recycled otherwise the cost of the cards is not just the air time but paper cost too.

  12. Zambians need serious development not this nonsensical purchasing of airtime @ selected ATM machines. You even call this civilization?.This is madness.

  13. Good idea. Its convenient, as people will not have to withdraw cash and start looking for where to buy talk time. May the bank introduce more services.

  14. Why should i buy airtime from the ATM? Zambians dont need this kind of development. Please bring developments which will benefit poor people.

  15. Oh yes, this a ka small development.Take for instance i hav an emergency n need to call sum1 close to me n talktime mu phone kuti chaba shani. Kopeni ba zanaco topin up frm the mobile itself.Basop

  16. Development?
In Europe, one can withdraw cash from ATMs at certain times with the right combinations for FREE!!
    Now, that’s development!
    <:-p

  17. A person’s life can be described at least in part by what they spend money on. You go to work to exchange your time and energy for money. then you begin to spend that money, which most likely comes to your bank acc first. So from that bank account you can spend on all you want to pay for. For us who have internet banking, this is very real, as we pay bills, transfer money, buy stuff etc while sitting at our desk. Goods are delivered to our doorstep. Banks even offer insurance, road recovery etc. All these operating from your bank account. Your manage your bank account online. They are things you’d have to do any way. Thank God for banks. Bravo Stanbic. Bring more.

  18. But how about cell Z?lets support our own company Zamtel and cell Z.MTN is for SouthAfricans and Zain is for Muslims.Lets be patriotic countrymen

  19. # 35 UK-Zed Observer!! BRAVO!!! Now you are talking.
That is what you call Service!! Time is more than Money in Europe!! One is happy if they do not have to walk to the bank.

    Viva Internet Banking =d>=d>=d>=d>=d>

I like that one!! My level of thinking.

    Yes we surely need more

  20. It’s another added service for which Stanbic deserves a pat on the back. Not only this is convenient but stops one from being exploited the scratch card vendors who take advantage when no one else is competing with them.

It does not matter whether there is money in one’s account or not at least the few occassions that one is able to smile, at the end of the month, one is able to use the service.

  21. UK-Zed Observer, spare Zambians please. those things happen in developed nations, most zambians live from hand to mouth mind you. Money finishes before the monthend comes.

  22. Somewhat a bit convenient. You won’t have to queue up at ATMs and still rush to Kukantemba to buy air time. I wonder what is happening to CELL Z. Are they sleeping or what? Come on guys, wake up! It’s time for business. We don’t want you to wake up only in time to ask GRZ to bail you out. Be innovative and grow that business. You so stuck on marketing landlines. Can’t you see that telephone service is nose diving? Nurture Cell Z and turn it into a cash cow. How come ZAIN and MTN are thriving while you are striving.

  23. 😡 Baby C am back i really missed you how was your X-mas with this recession i hope you dnt work for caterpillar or Woolworth?

  24. someone give update pali bola ,say what time it starts and the goals please. Can’t comment pali Stanbic cos i know zero about Stanbic and the services their offer , ATM and INTERNET yes.

  25. But what is it so special about this service anyway. This has been so in many parts of the world, including SouthAfrica from the 1990s.

  26. Kalu threatens to take Mayuka transfer to FIFA !!

LT we need more News on this issue!! and Zambia Daily Mail: Renard quits?

    LT post news please!! :d

  27. #41 Rashid Jones. I hear you.

I just wanted to show someone that there’s a lot you can do from our bank accs. It’s more than just putting money there and go take it out. It’s useful way to go about using your money. Let’s welcome this service.

Besides, in a very competitive world, banks attract customers by offering such services, one-stop-shop services. Think about it, why should you bank with Barclays and not Stanbic or Zanaco if they offer the same services. Stanbic’s gain in this is to attract customers who want such convenience.

  28. #37 Jamaco. You are welcome my brother.

For those asking why other banks not offer the same service, I say they will quickly catch up or else they risk losing customers or failing to attract newones. the biggest market is new customers – like new graduates, new employees etc. These will shop around.

In the UK, banks compete to attract new customers. They come to university at start of year wiyh incentives like if you open an account with you, they will put £50 or £100 in there. That’s how I openned my first Barclays a/c. Banks know that you’ll most likely bank with them for life.

  29. I am surprised a few people have rubbished this development. I personally think it`s a positive move.

Panono panono guys, until we get to the time when Shoprite:d will start delivering-Tesco style:d.

Do not know which year this will be but worth waiting for.

  30. Owe internet ! it´s funny how people here are making noise. First before you write, ask yourself how many people have a bank account with Stanbic or any other bank in Zed ? This service will only serve the few. Its not worth a comment or trying to come out like you know alot. Things that are worth to consider as development is when we hear that they are building a new university or new schools etc.., then thats DEVELOPMENT bamakaka !

  31. So this is when such services are reaching zambia, thats too strange, Dont worry zambia I’ll be coming home very soon, I’ll introduce you to the latest technology. There wont be need for you to buy those scratch cards everything will be automatic, i’ll make sure you start using auto machines. Its agood step forward keep it up :)**==(*)

  33. #65 wikala ku Chinsali nangu ku kaoma? Dont disgrace yourself here, If you dont understand something remain mute. Toping up of credit has been there for ages and zambia should catch up with the rest of the world. Makaka wilatusebanya

  34. pa zed [-( the definition of development is not what the whole world things development is. In zed development is manda hill, arcades, cell phones, cars and flashy things brought by investors. In other countries development is good welfare, good standard of living, higher salaries etc. How is something supposed to be called development when it doesn’t imporve the welfare of the common man on the street.

  35. How can anyone honestly politicise this issue? It is convenient and hassle free. While it only caters for the few, it is a step in the right direction. At least it gives people a choice, yabah!!!!

  38. While this is a revelation for Zambians, its old news really.

Here in Asia you can pay for prostitutes and even get a reciept then claim it every Friday as expatriate entertainment. :d

  39. Stanbic should have been offering these services a long time ago. They have no sense of communication with their clients, so hearing they have launched this service makes me fear for the safety of their clients.

They close accounts without notifying (account)holders: no one bothers to communicate with clients at all.

    I wish them well.

    ZO

  40. Technology should also benefit the average zedian. We should be able to buy fertilizer and other economic inputs using cellphones, ATMs and other ICTs. In as much as we’re supposed to embrace modern technology, we haven’t really laid a solid basic economic foundation.

  41. I think this is still far from what is needed because it shouldn’t take one to go to the ATM machine, why not just recharge direct from the phone?
