When Foreigners Disrespect us in our own Country

Share

By Wesley Ngwenya

I was in the passenger seat of a friend’s car as we waited for the lights on the intersection of Independence Road and Burma Road when my attention was drawn to a green Toyota Land Cruiser which pulled over next to us. The driver was a middle-aged white man with a white dog on his passenger seat. That is not an unusual sight in Lusaka nowadays. It was not even unusual that behind in the open van were two of my fellow black Zambians. What was unusual though was that it was raining. The guys behind were being soaked in rain while the White man and his dog were having a cozy ride in first class.

As the lights turned green and the vehicles sped towards town, I rolled my windows down and asked the man in the Land Cruiser why he would opt for the guys behind to get soaked while he had an animal ride shot-gun. His response was, “this is an expensive dog and it is none of your business. This is my business,” as he negotiated the turn on Kafue Roundabout to head south. Both my friend and I were speechless for a moment.

Later that day I recounted to the same friend what had happened to me a few weeks earlier. I went to purchase a tape for my video camera in one of the Indian owned shops on Cairo Road. As soon as I bought the tape, I decided to window shop next door. Fortunately, this shop carried similar products as the previous one where I bought the tape. I found the tape in this shop for about K6,000 cheaper. I hastily bought the cheaper tape and went back in the first shop to return the more expensive one. I asked for my money back because I found a cheaper one next door. He of course said they did not take returns but I insisted. He then said, “Why don’t you think before you buy? Fuseki.” In Zambia, “Fuseki” is an insult. Saying I was angry after hearing these words is an understatement. I cannot repeat the words I used to this man.

He quickly realized that he was dealing with a different person. His employees and the customers in the shop couldn’t believe their ears and eyes. I pointed my index finger and placed it right on his forehead and told him to never ever speak to me or anyone in that shop using such language. His body was shaking and you could hear the fear in his voice. He asked one of his employees to give me my money and go. I got my money and left but not before I shared a few more words of wisdom with him.

A few hours later in a restaurant a man walked to me and thanked me for speaking out for them in that store. He agreed with me that foreigners were disrespecting Zambians and abusing them in their own country. These foreigners are quick to change sides and claim the Zambian citizenship when it advantages them like the Indian man earlier.

As a Zambian living in my own country I deserve some respect and not to be treated like an animal. If I were in some little town in Sweden or some village in Nepal I would probably take it in and just shut up. However, in my country I will show you that I belong here and this is my territory and you may be invading my space.

I am in no way against foreigners. There are many foreigners who come to Zambia and make significant contributions in our communities. Many are respectful, cordial and considerate. Unfortunately, some are arrogant and disrespectful. These are the kinds we need to watch out. Whether or not they are our employers we should not reduce ourselves to sub-humans to be accepted by them. It is our country and let us stand up for our rights.

  1. Zambians themselves are to blame. Why be so doscile and accept nonsense from any one? It is not an issue of arrogance but being factual and assertively confronting all manner of prejudice.

  2. may be they were just given a lift and the guy was damn scared they might rob him of his car if he gave them a front seat!!!

  3. 9. your flag Lady chiza’s legs

You mean LT is slowing down Production?

Iwe I am now on my way Kunchito!! I am sure to hit Numbala l-) from there.

Ba Chiza have a nice day.

    Baby C :o):o):o):o)

    Congrats for Numbala l-)

Ine am now on my way ku Nchito. Later :-h

  4. it’s a pity we seem to accept to be 2nd class citizens in our own country, worse very few pipo wld stand up for their rights in zambia. we need more bravos like u.

  5. The chaps at the back of the van had the option of refusing to sit at the back of the van or better still just refuse to board the vehicle altogether. But u know how desperation is.

However, do you know that ot there, there are dogs that live much better than humans? sad world.

  6. It is POVERTY to blame!! When you are poor you also have a poor mind!!

Thats why I always say :

    “Swing when you are wining”

I love my people!! They are too humble!! Stand up and fight even with little or no money in your pocket!!>:/>:/>:/

  7. If a black guy did that to a fellow black, this wopuld not be an issue. Put in another way, if the people behind were white, it would not be an issue.

It is like the issue of whites calling blacks monkeys. It is only an issue if it is white on black. A white calling a fellow white a monkey is not such an issue. A complex CREATED by history I guess.

  8. **==
good article anyway, though in every game their are rules to follow. Even your fellow zambian can insult you for returning something you bought, coz its business.Having a dog infavour of human should not not bother you much mr wesley, nowander you were tod ‘its non of your business’,to them ‘ba zungu’ its very normal.

Tell the NCC,then to include such inhuman attitudes,so that it becomes punishable, othowise it will be as normal as routine…

  9. relax

Interesting way of looking at things. My grand son likes sitting at the back of my van while my German Sherpard enjoys the front sit with me. Do I regard my Dog better than my grandson? Nope!

  10. well this story is a personal experience which some how may or may not involve the mass. Trully having a dog in the car is not new to some societies. You never know may be these guys have lived with this man for ages and has done that all the time, and they like it. Foregners in zambia have it easy, they have a maid in the house and garden boys outside, and may be even someone who just washes the dogs every saturday, since they themselves only have a bath a week. Respect is what is needed to all people. those that disrespect the owners of the land are wrong, and need to be told how to live in foreign countries. Chineese are funny people, just be careful, I dont want to say much No xenophobia

  11. Baby C :o):o):o):o)l-)

Took me forever to get to work#:-s.

Wesley what is annoying is it`s illegal to carry a life in the back of a van in developed countries. But, what do you expect when we saw Police ferrying people in the back of the van on LT`s new year`s day pictures?

As long as we remain poor, this will always happen. Not being awkward but these guys were lucky they even had a lift. Fellow black (Ministers, MPs, Ba Mwine) will not even give them a lift.

You spent time in the US. I am afraid you will have to get used to this in Zed. As for the return, well done.

  12. When in zed last november I had an incident with an indian man in a certain bank. He was rude and obnoxious towards me not knowing what I was capable of I soon gave him a piece of my mind and put things in perspective. You can safely say that I humbled the man.lol

  13. Guys!

I will blog with you later. Thanks for everything naya kusukulu nweko na milk shake pa mac donalds as my birtday present.I love you all you really mean a lot to Matworld.

    Stay blessed.

  14. Why does no 16 Jamaco talk more nonsense than sense. Is this a Germany thing. Ku nchito waya nibu Malonda?. No one cares where you are going, chaiche. Ubututu

I am appaled by this story, saying that i ve seen it all before. I think as a black man, i am treated well better in this country, its until you want their job (whites) thats when you feel their wrath. te

  15. (Sorry this topic is not related to the story) Today marks 90 days since this Govt was elected into power. They have finished their 3 months probation and as Zambians we have a right to analyse their performance during this timeframe with all fairness. I have been searching for the MMD campaign manifesto and have not got a hold of it ,infact the website for President Banda is down ,anyhow we should still assess their performance so far.
    Accomplishments
    1) Promised to increase University Students meal allowance – The Meal allowances were increased in the first week of office but have not yet taken effect.
    2) Promised to reduce Mealie Meal prices – This was done after much pressure from

  16. nice article, however, returning of the tape was wrong.am not in support of foreigners,bt i believe u should have taken yo tym to check from different shops.unless u say the tape was faulty, then it was going to mek sense 4u to take it back,& not on the grounds that u found a cheaper one sumwhere else……

  17. I think i doesnt really matter where on this earth you are,if you are treated unfairly you should speak out and openly rebuke this kind of behaviour, just because i am in your country does not give you a licence to mistreat me,but then this behaviour we get from zambians mistrating each other also, some because of their status in society believe they are more human that others and the foreign people who come through mearly copy what the see.

  18. A begger is not a chooser
They would have opted for a better solution if they had the abilities and capabilities.

White Americans are complaining about the song done by Young Jeez and Jay Z ‘My President is Black’ as a racial and descriminatory song. They are forgetting the Racial songs done by other artists previously like ‘White Ameriaca’by Eminem

  19. I dont trust the author of this article coz it seems to me he is trying to sway public resentment of foreigners. Why is it that he seems to be crossing paths with them anyway?

  20. In other countries where we are now, if you have good papers that them dont have for the job, well ni ziii, because you qualify for that, they are becoming rough just when they cant have the chance to do a simple job. Now pa zambia ati to mark lines on the roads, it has to be foreigners from Zim to do it.To cook nsima in the market stalls it has to be chineese, these chineese brought a lot of prisoners to zambia to build the new chilanga cement plant, so you see, ba Zed wake up and fight for your right. Ine given a chance, chineese teti alandeko sana.

  21. Ba Moze

This is the problem of staying too long kuba zungu. They break the spirit of the muntus until the muntu reacts.

Ngwenya is simply remembering those days he spent saving voluntarily in slavery.

Some chaps out there spend the whole year sweeping floors and they cant imagine doing that in their own country shaa.

  22. I agree with you ba Moze. How dare He purchases some stuff and just to return them because he found something cheaper elsewhere? regardless of nationality, any shop owner would react the same way.

self empowerment is what we lack.

  23. #31.

Bamo mulampapusha! Are you sure you are in the UK? I have done it before here many times. It`s legal/it`s allowed. This is what Zambians should be fighting for. Wake up!

#26 Ba Musonda. Having a different view or talking about going to work should not make you say all that. You are a very jealousy person. Have a life!

  24. #37. Ba Moze. I agree on one part. See my post on #25.

These guys were lucky they even had a lift. We`ve seen ministers go past people without even bothering. =))=))=))=))=))=))=))

  25. If someone insults you, do not get upset. First find out why. Why why??

It is a chain of things in Zambia which are wrong and need to be addressed.

  26. Ba LT please tell us whats happening in Kitwe, my college has not reported for work here in Ndola ati the mini bus drivers are rioting. So no mini buses are ferrying people both within and outside the city.

  27. Decency calls for sanity please. If the issue was that the white was riding (as in horse riding) the blacks, then it was going to be an issue which BTW is happening all year round kuba zungu on muntus who have volunteered freely without coercion. Serving time.

I would rather boast about my owning two goats here in the village than serve time out.

  28. It is my opinion that most zambians do not know their rights. Therefore they will accept when they are sold substandard items since the shop owner has written somewhere ‘no returns’. Even in work places, I have seen this attitude of ‘muzungu aziba zonse’. We fail to question the status quo. Company policy says noone will drive co. vehicle unless driven by co. driver, but you see whites driving themselves around. Zambians r silent-they complain alot when in hiding. There’r so many atrocities comitted against zambians in different situations without them raising a voice. Why?? Because they are cowards & they do no know their rights. A big up to Wesley Ngwenya because there’r a few like u!!

  29. #41 it may be legal but it doesnt just mek sense for sum1 who understands that in a free market economy prices are diferent,it shows iliteracy & the degree of ignorance!!!thats y its important to check from as many shops as u can b4 u finaly buy……

  30. It`s not about muzungu for God`s sake. Why is it an issue? Yes the boy may have been carrying a dog alright but he gave them a lift.

Your fellow blacks don`t even do it.

  31. It is like talking about corruption when you do not have deliberate measures in place to empower Zambians.

The chinese nationals are now selling tomatoes, meat. Can you imagine, all the way from China. In the recent past we have even seen Labanese nationals in our neighbourhoods carrying things on their shoulders moivng from house to house.

One wonders what they indicate when applying for work pemits.

  32. :d/ sorry still laughing at no. 7’s comments. You so funny!! Maybe he though if the African rode up front the dog may prefer one of them!.

On a serious note, in as much as it is important for more Zambian to face off such attitudes there is nothing to gain from stirring up a blanket “racist” foreigners forum.

  33. Anoymouse, Moderator, 3Rqu

I hate it when Zambians complain like that. Imagine, even proud to say “i took it back”! We just like complaining, thats all. Lets empower zambians economically so that they buy cars and raincoats!…and even small dogs we call fluffy!

  34. im a monster living in russian territory. i live with whites here, but no one intimidate me and put me down. whites watch out when i return to my motherland

  35. #48 Kote Kanama. You are allowed to return goods as long as they are returned intact. I have done it before. Sense or nonsense! This has nothing to do free market.

Returning goods has nothing to do with ignorance/literacy for crying out loud.

  36. #36. Ba Moze

    I love your post 😡

You are spot on. Wesley mistreated the business man of Asian decent over the tape issue. Why buy a tape if you can find it cheaper somewhere else?? In other countries, it is not unusual for shop owners to refuse returns. Wesley showed immaturity over the business man and any business regardless of their ethnic decent would react the same way. Wesley was wrong.

On the issue of the whiteman, though I do agree that it was wrong, but the workers can improvise. Tengani ma plasitc and wrap them around ngati you dont want to get wet.

  37. @ # 48.Kote Kanama

Ever heard of consumer rights and protection, consumers are allowed to return a product within a stipulated period,

this no return, no exchange, no refund policy is illegal

even if i sign a contract with a supplier or service provider today, e.g for insurance there’s a minimum cooling off(1 week) period in which i can change my mind and cancel the agreement,

this is to protect you and me from these high pressure selling, persuasive etc sales people,… in short am allowed to go and think about it and i can change my mind should i way

something to that effect exists in Zambia

  38. #59.
Thank you. I am surprised people are coming on here with US flags spouting rubbish.

This is the government`s problem. Bamwenya have even gone to an extent of writing NO RETURNS, NO REFUND! Despicable!

As for that muzungu boy-I still say I have no problems with him. =))

  39. What will wesly say if he saw me driving my van accompanied by German Sherpard in front with a bunch of whites at the back? Would he think I am racist or what?

  40. Thats what goes in most places of work. Domestic servants are not regarded as human beings being these unmannered guys. A dog gets sick and its urgently taken ot vet clinic but a worker is told to foot own bills. Thses guys normally create a fearful environment for its workers and then start abusing them one by one. Females are forced to offer their bodies if not they get fired. Last month a bought some shirt in Budget stores but upon checking at home its was to be small the following I took it and asked for exchange, the chines manager refused but I lectured him and agreed with him.Pipo rise up and lecture these guys to do right things it does not matter what they say but they realise that

  41. Wesley your article lacks merit. You should have ASKED the guys themselves why they were behind. I don’t want to assume like you did. But what if they were just given a lift. Or by the time they jumped on the truck it wasn’t raining. Do you really think it is wise to leave the dog unattended behind the truck. Or would the three of them fit in front while the dog remain alone at the back? On pricing I think you were overboard big headed. Whether foreign or indigenous pipo charge prices differently. Next time check for cheaper shops before you go about harassing and insulting pipo.

  42. Its like condeming the IMF and the World Bank
These are financial institutions operating with rules and regulations requiring developing countries to meet certain benchmarks to qualify for a category of loans. If you are not happy with the prescriptions and benchmarks for the loans you can reject their offers.

  43. You teach a person how they should treat you. the chinese, twalibatumpika, and they know that..hence the reason why they have a platform for bull$#&ing.

The way the guys at the back relate to the white man gives him the power to do what he did. And i dont blame them, under poverty makes you desparate and all it was to them was a ride, not a confortable ride?? If it was another person, from a different background, that would be an headoff but these poor people dont have a voice, didnt have a chance to learn that we are the same and they need not be treated anyless by anyone.

Lesson, lets put our children in school and never let anyone intimidate them, whatever race and wherever

  44. @ #65.Chips Khu….

About the return policy (to the chinese store) true,…….

About the worker footing his own medical bill….

Question did the worker have that in his employment contract(implied or epress) about the employer providing healthcare,… if no(which i suspect is so) then no basis to whinge,

you could perhaps advise the worker to negogiate for that in his contract

  45. This wesley chap is actually rascist himself. can you carry (for example) three people who have just been working on a sewer line in the front of your car? What am trying to say is that, there could have been reasons for that scenario but the bottom line is that the car belongs to the white man and the dog (Fluffy) just happened to belong to the right owner. Had it been the other way, Fluffy would have soaked to death. Again, lets buy rain coats, not just drinking beer!

  46. Some of these Non African races always think that they are better than us. We are also to blame coz we fear them too much especially if we poor and not educated i.e min grade 12.Even after our brother Obama was elected as U.S.A president the ill treatment towards the black race continues. This is not an easy battle to fight.

  47. Docility is the word. One senior official at my work place was splushed with mud by a white fellow and the guy was lifted off the hook despite a report being made to GRZ agencies. The white guy now has grown big headed and thinks he is untouchable. He treats fellow senior officials like uneducated little boys. His language is always offensive. Iam sure he paid someone.

  48. #59,thanx 4 that!!! #61,i think u got me wrong, returning of goods i know is allowed,bt returning on the grounds that u’ve found that same product cheaper sumwhere else is wat i c not to be fair to the person u bought it from.atleast if u return it coz of it being of wrong type or wrong size or jst faulty in anyway..try to put yoself in those shoes & c how u wud feel after making a sale & then sum1 returns saying i’ve found it cheaper sumwhere else.its better to check from all shops b4 buying!!

  49. #73. This has nothing to do with race. Why are people missing the point? Stop race race card for heaven`s sake!:((

If I knew this white boy, I would tell him never to give a lift to people again. :((:((

  50. 3RqU #76

You are right. This has nothing to do with race. The author in fact is treading on dangerous ground coz that what he is insinuating. Am very concerned.

  51. #75. Kote Kanama why do we have ads in the UK saying if you get it cheaper anywhere we will give you a refund? It`s allowed to take something back because you`ve found it cheaper next door.

If it happens to you please call me I will take it back for you. It`s legal. No one should even question you for saying it. I have done it before.

Remember “Don`t get Done Get Dome” (not sure exactly what it was called). It was real.

  52. Ka COMPLEX pa Zed. We have allowed this sort of thing in Zambia. Why do people allow other people to treat them like this. We are entirely to blame. If you feel inferior about yourself then thats it. People will look at you that way. Look at a white man, like a human being and not anything else. Try telling an Indian, you’ve been to India. They’ll respect you.

As for me, I have vowed that nobody will treat me bad. If I have a point to make, I’ll make it point blank, whether to a white man, Indian, Chinese, etc. If I walk in a room, I’ll demand for the best service, if I dont get it, I’ll get annoyed and TALK.

  53. #77. Ba Moze

“The driver was a middle-aged white man with a white dog on his passenger seat. That is not an unusual sight in Lusaka nowadays.”

A statement from the author. Pay attention to the “this is not an unusual sight in Lusaka nowadays”. I think the author is showing signs of racism. I am very concerned here. This could be a sign that racism is gradually rising in Zambia.

  54. Ba Moze,
Iknow you are joking but on a serious note, in whatever circumstances the white man should have stopped and give money to the two guys so that they could jump on public transport or book a taxi. I Don’t subscribe to the fact that if you learn how to write and speak english then automatically you change colour and become enlish. Twakashikakofye mukanwa and tafyakachinje. [-(

  55. #77 Ba Moze I do agree. Why do people keep jumping to the race card? If I decide to give a person a lift, it`s all up to me where they sit.

Wesley on this one sorry, you are wrong.

Ba Moze you are right let these people buy amakoti. :d

  56. #79. 3RqU

I dont know about the UK but when I was in Canada, you where not allowed to return tapes or CDs. It had to do with copyright restrictions(Whether blank tape or not).

  57. Sister #80

Wakamba maningi!! Well spoken. kanshi ulalanda ? Napapa sana.
Even me, Teti fluffy wandi anine kunuma ya motoka yandi.

  58. Thats true, these foreigners pretend to be something when they are not, I live in Europe, have a good job, family and everything that comes with a good job, when I am out almost anywhere, these Europeans respect me coz i can afford what they cant, some beg for money on the street from Africans, so guys dont be cheated, they are just human like us, dont let them strip away your dignit, stand up and challenge them when they go too far.

  59. Contd from 80.

If you allow foreigners to treat you bad in your very own country, then where else are you going to enjoy life?

Thats why I hate it when ministers, MPs etc lie to me and treat me like I’m nothing. They think they’re more Zambian than us. Oh sorry off course.

Stop looking down on yourself please.

  60. The scene depicted in this story of a white man seated in a car and the black men behind is a scene seen everyday in South Africa.Beware that the boers don’t transfer their racism to Zambia. There is even a comedy by Leon schulzter of a white guy driving with his father in front andwith his black worker behind. Then suddenly on Radio they announced Mandela was freed.the white guy quickly stopped the car.Took the father behind the vehicle and put the black worker in the front seat!Zambians open your eyes to reality.

  61. People should be whinging about the law which allows people to jump in the cabin of a pick up. We know this is against the law in developed countries.

People stop this race card. Cry to the government to abolish “slavery”.

Ba Moze, you are in Zed, do me a favour and ask those whites never to give a lift to people again. My God!:((:((:((

  62. Musange #82

Mwana, on the contrary, i’m not joking. Am as serious as they get. You now bring in the issue of money. To start with, the white man is not obliged to do that. Second, these are the same Zambians who would have opted to walk in the rain so that they use the cab money to buy kachasu! Zambians carry fellow Zambians in that manner and yet no one complains. But pantu musungu, chabipa! I can guarantee you, you would have done the same….You probably have done it before. Fluffy kuntanshi. Kalidula ka fluffy mudala!

  63. #85. Please read the article again. Wesley decided to window shop and just “next door” he finds the same goods cheaper.

Yes it`s allowed in the UK. I am not sure about the States. I have only been in the States for two weeks so I am not the right person to say.

  64. #94 Jamaco just ignore that wum. I bet you wont see him on here again. He claimed to have seen your posts before yet we have never seen him on here before. Get the point?

  65. 3RqU

Am writing to the post newspaper advising non blacks to stop giving us rides because we are ungrateful! We sit on top of maize stacks, get soaked and even die in an accident, yet pantu musungu, its bad. Awee bane, lets be real. Its time we started feeling proud of ourselves and not sorry. The white man probably saved those chaps a twenty km journey for all you know. But our reaction…. You blame Fluffy!!!

  66. 28. Ba Musonda

    Iwe leave Jamaco alone!!

Ba Musonda it is you nobututu!! Maybe you do not work!

If the Boy tells his fellow bloggers that he is out for work so what?

Even Matworld says that he is out for school and will paass through Mac Donalds to have a milk shake!!

Ba Musonda you a crazy. Let the people say what they want to say. Just drop your comment to the topic and go.
Most of these bloggers are here more than you and know each other and respect each other. Dont come in and disturb the Peace.

Do you have a dog or you are one?

Leave the Guys alone. Next time we will send you to china. They will eat you …

    Chi Musonda iwe !!

  67. Baby C :)>-

Shani mwana!! Nkhani ya Fluffy yavuta pano. Ati, “no, Fluffy should have been in the back whilst the people in the front!”. Kwaliba? Bushe, Yabo motoka, nangu yaba owner bakwa Fluffy?
    Your comments please.:-?

  68. #45
Yes it is true mini bus drvers have parked their buses. iam told they are protesting “traffic police” harrassment. My wife is stuck in Kitwe. She can’t connect to Lusaka.

  69. Zambian Ethnic groups:

    African 98.7%, European 1.1%, other 0.2%
    [CIA Factbook]

Seeing a white man in Lusaka does not mean he is a foreigner. Look at Guy Scott. That is jumping to conclusions Wesley.

    #96. 3RqU

Yes societies differ. What do the Zambian laws say over returning copyright sensitive items like tapes. We can start from there.

  70. #99 Ba Moze exactly. Chances are these poeple were going to do something like 15-20 miles.

People are quick to jump to the race card. The trouble is they don`t complain when government ministers by pass them just like that. I know what I would do! I saw it with my own eyes the last time I was in Zed.

  71. many times at the robots near Aglo American i find some securicor guys asking for transport and i tell them to jump on. Does it mean when someone sees me at the junction of burma and independence then i must be querried why i put them behind? Do not see your friends in a wrong way. i think you are the one who is a racist.

  72. #103. Free Market I have say as far as I am concerned, people should be allowed to return goods. As long as they are intact and with in say 2 weeks like it is here on average. I have done it before. At one time I ended up saving about £100. Now thats money Free Market!

  73. #107. 3RqU

Yes and I do agree with you. Goods must be returned as long as they are intact but there are certain goods that do not qualify for return.

Like I said, when I was in Canada (I’m sure you remember I used to be a Canadian flag), Goods like Tapes, CDs, I-pods and certain MP3 players where not subject to the return policy. It was exchange only (Exchange an Ipod for another Ipod of the same kind) provided it is not working which is why I am asking what the Zambian laws say concerning such goods.

  74. Iwe Author Wesley Fimo fimo

Usakabwezepo futi article yaso! This is rascism at its best and your article has the power and ability to stir discontent against non Zambians. Personally, am not happy now with this article. Thats why we get annoyed when people say “work hard and buy yours”. Yet its a mere fact! I suggest you donate a few vehicles to all those who cannot afford. Thats the way foward. Not ifyo ulelanda, awee!

  75. Musange #82. You see. Just becoz he is white you assume he had money to pay the fellows for taxi or minibus. Wrong. What if the chap didn’t have any ngwee on him. Or If he just gave a lift to these guys, was he also under obligation to pay for their taxi

  76. Ba Moze

You maybe missing the point here, them guys are his workers. Whites here seldomly give lifts to chapsof different colour. You will need to come back to Zed for a visit and count how many times you will be given a lift by a white man. Yalikosa kuno ka” I enjoy your postings=d>

  77. Baby C

Yes, i support Fluffy. After all, the owner has the right to put Fluffy where he deems it right and fit. Those complaining, is it their car? Do they know that in some homes Fluffy sleeps in a bed and humans panshi?
As long as Fluffy and the car are his, let him do as he pleases. Chaba shani kanshi?

  78. Musange

Thanks again. Believe it or not, am actually full time in Zed!! So i understand the scenario all too well. Be a worker does not give you the right to ride first class with the boss. Next thing, the worker will be calling the boss’s wife “Darling”!!
    Balishupa Balumenda mudala.

  79. #112

Free Market I am not sure wat the law says regarding returns. But if it`s not allowed, it`s time the law was enacted to allow this.

#115 Why do you expect them to give blacks lifts when our own don`t?

Ba Moze nothing wrong with fluffy.

    Baby C I don`t see nothing wrong.
    :-b:-b:o):o):o):o)

  80. , Jamaco, Cutey, Baby C, 3RuQ and others: Hey guys am off to Thorn Park Grill Pa Matebeto for a juicy t-bone steak. Just to crank my apetite after a bottle too many over the weekend. am sure impwa and kalembula na delele would do. rejoice on number one

  81. #120. Lady Chiza someone should have told you we have all those things here now.:d
Jamaco tell Lady Chiza I had akabwali na smoked fish on Saturday.

Enjoy though ba Lady Chiza. Not my fault that the company you work for still has dial up when I can blog even on the motor way!:d:d:d:d:d

  82. I enjoyed reading this article. It is true that most foreigners take Zambians for granted just because of poverty. Well, the times are changing!

  83. good article, but its sentiments like these which lead to racail hatred like the ones witnessed here in russia and South africa recently! yeah sometimes it does get off heard, but am telling uuuuuu….! careful! some things like these can be de fuel pipo need! we talk about racism like its far from us, but in reality am seeing it in our papers gaing ground! lets not use the media to bring out racially inclined articles like these! LT please do something! shame on u!

  84. The race issue is just an inferiority complex on black peoples part. you never hear white people complaining about black people being racist. A black person can name something “black bla bla for blacks”, white people wont complain, but let a white person name something white blah blah….iye. Black people are the biggest racist I have ever encountered
Cultural difference courses misunderstanding amongst foreigners and country owners hence the Xenophobia :-?? etc

  85. **==

    Ba moze & Baby c!

mwandepaula,am sure wesley(author) is feeling the heat from what he has written….VIVA fluffy, tell them:” its my uncle’s car”….8-x

  86. Hi folks what an interesting topic! However, i won’t give you my views coz you all seem not to know what to do with foreigners. Here in South Africa we know too well which button to press when things get out of hand. It pays.
And please when blogging, don’t use languages we do not understand. We can all use common international languages like isiZulu or English for effective communication. Let us be considerate friends.

  87. Yaba,
Lelo Ba Moze mwalasa mapoints good yekayeka..A white man is just human like you and me. Just ask me…
#25, all postings are good too.A white man lives with his dog in the house , a black man’s dog eats ‘unpalatables’ outside the house. Those guys would have just been told to walk their way if the courtesy of giving them a lift was an insult. In my day to day work I supervise white people, male/female and I have gained respect because I have simply taken them as humans and they have accepted me the way Iam.Wesley ,ask those guys with the dog issue, chances are they will tell you they careless about your sentiments.. mark my words.. About refund policy, you can if you are not happy.

  88. #37,
    Mwanisekesa maningi in here.
    Those chaps are lucky.
They wouldn’t have got a lift at all in some other countries as passengers are not allowed to sit at the back of a van/ute/bakkie.[-x

  89. Free market fimo fimo :-h

Am glad my campaign for Fluffy is yeilding results! Fluffy is too innocent to be put in the spot light by the author. Dont forget also that Fluffy’s type of breed is specifically meant to be kept indoors, Ka?
So, Unfortunately fot the workers, you win some, you lose some. This time it was Flffy’s turn to enjoy the fruits of his (kaume obviously) masters sweat.
The worjers obviously enjoy in one form or another..eg, pilfering!!

  90. If a person says ‘fusake’ he is a Zambian. He knows the language. He is a product of our education system. Whether we like it or not, the GRZ over the years has promoted institutionalised racism and discrimination. Because of poor funding for schools, our GRZ schools are not integrated. The schools are only for the poor natives. How many none natives are cadres of political parties? How many non-natives can provide a village for the registration cards? We are running the Country like we shall go back to the villages. The world is changing and we need to move with the times. Because people born in villages are running the GRZ, they now expect everyone to have a village.

  91. I beg your pardon M/s Phumzile something #132….i think i will always be happy to see bloggers doing it in any ZED language whether i follow or not than pipo bringing zulu here…That doesnt mean u should not express yourself in any tongue you want, but please tilekeni tizi kamba mwamene tiyivelela !

  92. The problem with Zedians is that we dont tell the off or even physically deal with such. Mwenye Lupi chabe dont even waste time reporting to the police or LT.

  93. Cutey!

Chanibaba kukalipila Fluffy. As if this was the first time Zambian workers have been put in the back of a vehicle! Zambians want to ride first class with the boss, even kuchosa Kamboyo ku passenger seat as if he is a shareholder! Fluffy in this case is the owner, simple and straight foward.
Some workers when not checked even ask the boss’s wife ati, “madam, whats for lunch?”.

  94. Ba Moze, Baby C and Jamaco I support fluffy. Maybe the guys at the back of the van had just come from tarvens and fluffy had just been bathed. Viva fluffy

  95. Baby C Fluffy always wins..
You go to the tillat the supermarket cueing for fluffies food+milk and what does Wesley think to write such an article when he probably has never owned a fluffy??. He would have contacted several people from both worlds involved in this issue before putting his fingers on the keyboard. (akale twaleti before putting pen to paper)
My fluffy eats cornflakes in the morning too.. howz that?? ~:>

  96. @ # 142. the man,

Please don’t give the non native an excuse for isolating themselves, who stops them from joining the army, police service, teaching proffession, political parties etc….. in short serving the nation

put quite simply, can a non native risk his life in times of war for Zambia?….. i think we know the answer to that

yes the education sector maybe in shumbles but they can intergrate at other levels, look at Hanif,Dipak,Kanjombe,Muhammed Seedat,Zukas

    need i say more 😉

  97. A warning to these non native Zambians, isolating yourselves in high wall fences, not speaking the local lingua is a time bomb, it only serves to make your future(in zambia) precarious,

it’s so easy for an irresponible person/s to use you as scapecots for the dire economic conditions of the country,

history is littered with such from Hitler,Idi Amin,Mugabe etc

you will always need the natives to stand by you in times of trouble, unless ofcourse you are in Australia or the US

  98. We are foregners in our own land my friend.
A smiler thing happened to me, but i didn’t fight back, i guess am coward ka? :-h any Wesley thumb-up to you pal=d>**==

  99. #152,
~:>they are actually 2~:>,as one is female believe me.The male was making threats the other day and young bro matworld was trying to intervene I warned him to stop and thats how the thing died too. Do not worry, such hatred will never cease pa blogg, some are simply kalijo,s. just keep lifting your head above waters.. .o-+:-j:-j:-j

  100. #114
Are you suggesting that if you give a lift to somebody and it starts raining, don’t mind about them guys at the back after lo the lift is for free. if you cant give them money for transport like you’ve put it atleast drop them where there is some shelter. kaili they are used to jumping on other people’s vehicles, they will find another good samaritan. Thats the way things work out this part of the world. Feel for others

  101. #139 i was trying to say as blacks I think we spend a lot of precious time and energy complaining and less time on action. If somebody is wrong he/she is wrong whether black/white/Indian/Foreigner or not, he or she is wrong period. And as black we shouldn’t say just because I am black that’s why you did that or treated me like that, etc. No :o! why should you say that? what is wrong with black? That to me is inferiority complex[-(

  102. #158 Musange

Feeling for others is good. But what if you dont have money! Do i go out of my way to borrow so that they dont get soaked?? Come on naiwe. be realistic! Its not my fault that is has rained, and like i said, that guy probably shaved off a few kms off their journey. Whats better than that?? Lets learn to look after ourselves.

  103. The only reason why these foreigners are beligerant to Zambians is because they are not afraid of you. If you would put them in their place none of this would ever happen. The are rude because the majority of zambians they are rude to never react and just walk away like scared people. Zambians have no sense of pride or self worth, they have an inferiority complex. Like shown in the thread when these foreigners are confronted they are usually shocked and back down quickly

  104. #158,What you have said carries sense especially feeling for others, but why did Wesley not stop the White man and face him since bakali sana?..
That white man is not an illegal settler and he has to enjoy the rights accorded to him.
The law does not limit him to carry his dog at the back of his car at the expense of anyone else come rain or shine..
Uyo mwenye chali easy pantu nakale (cant say much here),
#159, spot on.. seems INFERIORITY COMPLEX and PARANOIA will never cease.

Please people move with the times..including imwe ba Wesley. :)>-

  105. #158, Ba Moze, you are very useless. No kind words for you and I will not explain why. Just cehck your postings and judge yourself. Ubututu too much, sha.

  106. #164 Chikuni

I have dealt with your kind before, and believe me, you are not worth the time. People like you are bitter with their lives and want to use others as an excuse. Ngati vavuta uko, just come back home. You dont have to suffer as if ulibe kwanu. All that is required here is hard work, not lazyness. Again dont be bitter Chikuni. Uluse mwee! [-(

  107. In this world we have rednecks, skinheads, brownnecks and skinheads again (black this time) in short, we have racists of every colour and race.

The main cause of racism : inferioty complex and low self opinion coupled with greed.

  108. For the guy and his dog, I wouldn’t be in a better position to comment. He who feels it knows it. Maybe imbwa ni ikali, you never know. As for the bus****d in the shop he was wrong. I too has a nice dog and I really like it. If I am taking a drive with my Germany Shepard people usuallY refuse a ride, I can imagine if I were a Whiteman,s Child?

Foreigner take us for a ride because we fail to respect ourselves, just look at the calibre of political leaders that we have? nothing to write home about.

  109. A Bemba/Tonga/Ngoni/Lozi who thinks that he is better than a Nsenga/Kaonde/Mbunda because of his tribe is as racist as any white man who thinks that he is better than a blackman.

  110. How many of you carry your farm workers in your 4×4? sometimes these workers felt comfortable so they could relax in the back. Dont judge people on the basis of one. Shouting orders to someone you dont know is mental. what if he had a weapon? It was purely not your business to yell down at him. People live worldwide where they choose to be. :((:((:((:((:((

  111. Even here on this blog many have said nasty things about their fellow Zambians on account of tribe. How different are they from any other racists?

  112. By the fellow bloggers, Infact I am looking for an English Bulldog for sale. Please I ll appreciate if anyone can let me know. Thanks once again. :-w

  113. I pity some people who are losing their sanity because of suffering in the diaspora. The snow is getting to them so much that even what they write is not making sense!
I have been on this blog for too long to know who is who now. Impersonation does not take you anywhere! You are just a coward ka chikuni because all of us know that rude tone and pathetic mannerism belongs to.
I will pray for you. Its nice to see that you have a sense of humour although only bad that only you is laughing!! This is the place to relieve stress. Dont feel shy. I can crack some jokes for you if you dont mind? Uluse. [-(

  116. #168,
with my knowledge and understanding, the guy took fluffy for security reasons..
Who does not know that these guys are easy targets by locals.. Once they see one, they think he is a small bank $$$$$$wise .
Even Wesley ni Kalijo, why is he crossing their paths always????

Definately fluffy was performing a duty in that car.. It was not just a jolly ride.. :-??:-??:-??:-??:-??

He answered very well.He has the right to do that. You also as a black zambian have the right to put your dog in a confortable seat and the 2 white guys in the rains. ZAMBIANS MUST STOP THIS INFERIOR COMPLEX. Those guys couldnt have chosen to ride in that cruiser.

  118. #194 cont:I believe they are not even small boys who know nothing but they are matured enough. Dont blame the white guy, blame your stupit brothers who hapen to be my brothers also. Everybody has the right to choose. I am here in a white mans country. I have met people who tyried to lower me bcoz am black. But I have refused that and I have shown them that I am if not higher than them, equal to them.
DAYS OF SLAVERY ARE LONG AGO GONE.EVERYBODY CHOOSES WHO HE/SHE WANT TO BE AND HOW TO LIVE.Look at OBAMA!Good example.

  119. Sorry dude, that’s the way the world is. Will find it everywhere in the world.

We were also robbed blind here in SA. We bought phone cards to call Lusaka but afterwards found a service where you dial 084 190 0030 locally in South Africa and you get connected for free. No PIN required.

Needless to say, the guys did not give our money for the phone cards back.

  120. this is nuts…..
any way what do u expect,we have heard of investors
chasing a VICE PRESIDENT,A LABOUR minister from our
mine they are renting from us,when vehicles are old
instead of selling them for skrap, they bury them….
what more treatment wud they five a garden boy….
we have allowed them to treat us like this

  121. Congratulations my brother. I happen to be in the midst of these Indian/Nepalese assholes in Nepal and they hell poor, dirty and backward. And when they come to Zambia we worship them. Hell no, stop it.

  122. The guys riding behind the car were also at wrong no wonder here(Norway) it is a serious crime to carry a person behind an open vann and coming to the Dog maybe in zambia the white guy would have passed even through a road block with a dog getting soaked behind his car ,but again here it is a serious crime if an animal were to be exposed to such cruety ,so maybe this incidences can be interpreted in different ways depending on place and culture.About the indian he needs to learn about the proberb ,which talks about how a person who goes to Rome must behave like the Romans do. :)>-

  123. you cant beat muzungu (investors!!!) just give up…most of you would even rather slave for him in his country than come back home and change attitudes here – this is just another non-starter conversation. The Zambian diaspora is the worst if you compare to Nigerians, Kenyans and Ghanaian – or anyone for that matter. they others invest back home and not merely blame their Govts why they dont. anyway… foreigners will always treat us like monkeys; why do you think they pay us peanuts (our Govt even tells them we are cheap labour).

  124. am so sad to hear the even Indians treat my fellow Zambians wrongly, here in russian an indian man is called a black man too 🙂 there are some indians who are as black as we are even more. me as a person I don’t like indians? about whites people i don’t them too although am dating a girl, there can’t be true friendship between a black and a white man. now when am in Zambia then am the boss, or it will be pay back time

  125. I think the heading of this article is deceiving if not alarming. We do not need such headlines especially when there is no big issue really.A few personal experiences do not warrant such headlines. We have all been through all sorts of things but some are just one of those things of life. The author of this article doesn’t know who was at the back of the van & how come they jumped at the back & secondly,it’s true that some communities actually have more respect for their dogs, the’re several stories of dog owners who’ve put their dog as beneficiary of their will as sole beneficiary even when their owner had relatives infact dogs here stay & in the houses not outside like back home.

  126. CONTND FROM 203
Here in the UK & i guess in most developed nations animals have rights too & if you’re seen kicking a dog, that is plain cruelty & equal to assault, there is no leniency, you’ll spend some months in jail for that, even starving a dogs, horses or any other animal you have can put you in jail.We just have to accept that we all differ but off course. The issue about the tape is nothing really,i guess my fellow Zambian would treat me even more badly if i bought something in their shop & returned it,i don’t think i would get my money back.

  127. NO Pity,#201
My story is well known in Lusaka. I stood up to a white man who assauted me and did everything to get rid of me. I took him to local court with medical evidence, he of course won daaaa what was i thinking, my rights? i used them and appealed to high court. I won the case with costs. The white man run away to Ghana before the high court decision.
I stood up to him and i told him between you and I, one will be deported but i know my unbilical cord is buried here in my country Zambia.

  128. WESLEY NGWENYA, THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON EVER SINCE KK. IN FACT, BAMWENYE EVEN BEAT THEIR DOMESTIC SERVANTS. HOWEVER, ALL THESE STERMS FROM THE WAY ZAMBIAN POLITICAL LEADERS DISRESPECT FELLOW ZAMBIANS. LOOK AT LABOUR LAWS. THE LATE LEVY WENT TO CHINA AND TOLD THE CHINESE THAT LABOUR IS VERY CHEAP N THATS WHY THEY SHOULD INVEST IN ZAMBIA. KK INSULTED MEN AND WOMEN IN PUBLIC AS STuuuupiiD !d!0TS. IN THIS AGE ZAMBIA HASN’T YET SET THE MINIMUM WAGE. SO ITS MORE TO DO WITH THE DISRESPECT WE GET FROM OUR OWN LEADERS.

  129. WHEN AS A ZAMBIAN YOU VISIT ZAMBIA YOU ARE ILL-TREATED AT AIRPORT BY IMMIGRATION SYSTEM WHILE FOREIGNERS ARE GREATLY RESPECTED GO TO LONDON HEATHROW AND I DON’T NEED TO TELL YOU THAT BRITISH CITIZENS ARE GIVEN A WARM WELCOME AND ONE ONLY WISHES THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS IN HIS OWN COUNTRY. ASK ME HOW LONG IT TAKES FOR ZAMBIANS IN DIASPORA TO ACQUIRE A ZAMBIAN PASSPORT-MINIMUM TWO YEARS. I DON’T CALL THAT RESPECTING YOUR OWN CITIZENS. GIVING ENSSENTIALS TO VILLAGERS DURING POLITICAL CAMPAIGNS AND TELLING THEM THEY CAN’T HAVE THEM AFTER WINNING ELECTIONS IS SERIOUSLY INSULTING THE INTELLEGENT OF VOTERS. AND FOREIGNERS ARE LOOKING, MIND YOU.

  130. This is a story that makes a nice read but gives us no right to be judgemental. Case in point; The man protrayed by Wesely decides to go to town with his pet for groceries from his farm in chisamba. Its raining hard as he approaches the police check point and the cop requests him to give a lift to the two fellas. They hurriedly jump in the back b4 he can complete the phrase ‘yes but it looks like its gonna rain hard as we approach lsk’ what to do ??? Morale. Do not be judgemental of situations.

  131. i think this artical was poorley done i think the author and some bloggers are missing the point!!the issue should not be about race because i think there is a zambian from evry race there is!!the issue should be are foreigners coming into our country regadless of their colour and treating us like second class citzens? in our own country?

  132. Ba Moze someone highjacked my name. I started the fight but I did not finish it. I still think the white man nor any other muntu should not someone in danger such as getting ill injured becouse there are no sit belts in a van. I can imagine the family of the injured or deceased can suffer more to take care of family compared to a Dog. What do you think Ba Moze? Apologies to my earlier comments of ubututu and being useless.

  133. I beg yours(pardon) in #132,
As far as I know you are a “Kwere kwere” on this blogg. You people are the most inhumane in your own country. You are bullies to all foreigners.. I lived my miserable 3 years(wasted) in your country legally but you discriminate against every one who does not aspeak your language..
My UMBILICAL cord is burried in Zambia and it would be a crime to allow you to say crap about Zambian languages.. I hated your language and its people and never wanted to dialogue into one because you people are so heartless to say the least.Continue conversing in your Sizulu but do not attack any language expressed in here. :-t:-t:-t:-t:-t:-t:-t~X(#:-s#:-s

  134. I think this guy is dull, firstly you do not return someting coz you have found something cheaper and secoundly, a bugger is not a choser, and thirdly to some people in some societies a dog to them is more important than anything, talk of a couple in america last week who spent $150 000 to cron their bog and lastly you do not have the back ground to this story, so shut up and get on with your life, you are so dull, know that money can do all things but not everything.

  135. # 132 Do Zambians speak isiZulu…and why are you so bothered about issues involving Zambians? Are you that sad that you wanna poke your nose into matters that have nothing to do with you? Get a life and please kindly run along…!!! :-w

  136. On #213, FYI Bloggers,
Kwere kwere is the name they call all BLACK non South Africans, and I mean all.. whether you have touched their soil via Beit Bridge or through O.T. Airport.
Ask Matworld…He is my living witness in this .

Kanofye ukuipaya abanabo pali Cellphone!! :o:o:o

  137. #132. Torching people isn’t a way of life in Zambia. So, save your approach to problem solving for yourselves. We are not barbaric in Zambia. Thats the reason we saw you and many other brothers and sisters through to what you are today-without yorks and we are very happy to see you free. You are free to blog on any Zambian issues. But that does not mean that we should also start lynching and torching people.

  138. South Africa is indeed a powerful country and with lovely people except for the very proud Zulus if you ask me. Zulus seem to take pride in inhummane acts towards fellow black people, for example every year a crowd of Zulus would gather and take pride in celebrations involving beating black South Africans who happen to be a threat/brainy, non-zulus. Zulus protest over foreigners who take Zulus jobs and even kill them in Joburg-foreigners much hated by Zulus are mainly fellow black brothers and sisters, trouble is Zulus do not take education seriously unlike other nations within RSA. The very same Zulus would remove hoods and bow when meeting a white man till to date. Barbaric indeed.8-

  139. The government has failed to show respect for Zambians so as foreigners. Mr SATA mentioned that Zambians look like refugees in their own country. **==

  140. I do not know what #132 is talking about. In South Africa there are other highly respected languages and Zulu is not considered the better or most populr language. :d:d:d

  141. Haha..Cutey,JD, Peter…..I feel you.

#132, you have so many mzansi blogs, please let us have a piece of home that makes us feel like we belong…..And..Isi Zulu as you call it aint an Internatonal Language. Let us do some kwere kwere stuff in peace!!!

    Geeeeeeeeessss!!!

  142. #132 all you know is dancing and nothing else, so stick with what you do best. You are probably in the majority of Zulus who simply spent too much time learning Zulu-dance instead of going to school. Now, I must tell you what you do not know and let this settle in you thick head:ISIZULU IS NOT AN INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE. There are decent people in South Africa,Nelson Mandela is outstanding and the whole world knows about him, his language is rather of world-wide interest not Shaka Zulu language. Remember Shaka brought nothing but disruption, pushed africans away form thier mother’s land. So SHUT THE HELL UP !D!OT! :-&:-&

  143. It’s sad to read this story. It sounds exactly like the things South African say to us foreign nationals living in their country. But pipo lets be objective. Does it mean that if you are a foreigner, you cannot take a stand on any issue? Disagreements and differences of opinions happen between pipo. Does it mean that when you are a foreigner you should not disagree. In South Africa reasons given for Zenophobic attacks included even arguments that “ foreigners were taking our women”. Pipo were killed, simply because they were foreigners. It’s a backward perspective to think just because you are born in a Country, you own it. You will remain with your “owning” while foreigners get rich & leav

  144. Being a foreigner is just another option to leave your life. We Zambians leaving in foreign countries have managed to leave a life mother Zambia could not give us, despite the education. These foreign countries have empowered us, materially & in terms of exposure to how things can be done differently, & make them work. We are also contributing to the development of these foreign countries. So rather than look at a foreigner with such narrow perspective broaden your thinking. Its obvious, for example, that the little development that is in Zambia was brought by Whites. Buts it up to you Zambians to take it to the next level. To do that you have to learn from other pipo how it’s done. Treat fo

  145. How is this idea? The muzungu was driving the car with his dog in the front. The zambian guys hitchhiked a ride which he gave to them but they were too scared to sit in the front because of the dog?? Most people here are afraid of dogs. Maybe they even jumped in the back of the truck without even discussing anything. How many times have I seen people being transported like this, especially to funerals or during election times. But those drivers are Zambians. Would you have complaint to them too? So, what should the muzungu driver do? Put the dog in the back of the truck and transport it without a leash and risk that it would jump from the back into traffic? You cannot blame him for the rain!

  146. Maybe we Zambians need to ask why we always seem to get the short end of the stick. With or without foreigners, the situation in Zambia will still be the same. Maybe they should rethink the type of leaders we vote for in the next election ……
