DRC lifts Copper concentrates ban

Share

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) government has lifted the ban on the flow of copper concentrates into Zambia.

This follows a meeting held in Lubumbashi attended by Katanga governor Moses Katumbi and Copperbelt Minister Mwansa Mbulakulima and finance Deputy Minister Chileshe Kapwepwe, Thursday.

Mr. Mbulakulima said there is need for the two countries to work together in the wake of the low copper prices.

He noted that the estimated copper production target is one million tonnes and currently smelters in Zambia are only treating five hundred thousand tonnes.

Mr. Katumbi said very soon smelters in Zambia will be flooded with about ninety five percent of copper concentrates from DRC.

At least this time the person using the chair is one to one with it :d

  12. I read just abt every sliver of 411 available on LT, even though I hardly ever comment.
For that reason, I ask the good pastor to just bring his comments here instead of further splitting the forum. Consolidate and conglomerate, do not liquidate and obliterate…

    Stick with LT.
    Cheers!

  13. We should take up the opportunity so that smelters are utilized to full capacity. The Governor played games on copper concentrates. I hope the move will not result in our chimanga being smuggled ten folds to Katanga Province. The other day I saw a Congolese kundi of women with their faces looking bright like bazungu but close look at them showed they apply skin toning creams. Its was FANTA on the face

  14. The lift is good news.Congo DR has a lot of copper ore bodies especially in the rich katanga province.Unfortunately the lift has come at a bad time.

  15. # 16 has read the matter well, a deal has been struck people wake up and smell the coffee! Create a shortage and release the commodity when there’s enough panic and demand…nothing to do with good neighbourliness, its just business!

  16. The man seems to be doing fine in business but how about helping out his own country to have peace. The civil war is now over due. Congolees are all over the world fighting to make ends meet.

  17. At least things are cool between ZED. However don’t be overwhelmed. The young chap knows the copper business has gone down … so, ZED is just becoming a damping ground for the concentrate. One other thing worth mentioning is this: won’t he just work up one day and say: the flow of copper is shut? :-w

  18. Even if this is the case. There is need to go to the drawing table and iron out issues of our Economy. On one hand i say thank you to poor copper price becoz in no time we will just remain with deep hole in our land that cant be reused for anything else as the Copper sales money is not deposited in Zambia for even a day.

  19. One thing for sure we the Zambian people are the Image builders of the politician and there style actually represents the Zambians attitude on every thing.

  20. Ha Ha hA, SO KATUMBI HELD US UP BY OUR BALLS. NO WONDER CORRUPTION CASES WERE DROPPED, ZAMBIA HAD TOO MUCH TO LOSE. WE HAD NO PLAN B ONLY PLAN A LIKE ROBERT MUGABE, WE WANTED TO SQUEEZE KATUMBI BUT IT BACKFIRED HE IS THE ONE WHO HAS SQUEEZED US. VERY FUNNY, WE ARE NOW DANCING TO HIS WHIMS.

    CORRUPTION REALLY PAYS!!!!!!

  21. This is good news.
I lost 80 tonnes of the copper ore in the last episode.
He imposed the restriction when both my trucks where marooned at the Congolese border, with a multitude of others. We where made to dump it all for nothing.
I lost close to $130 grande.
I don’t think I can trust these retarded uncivilized Animals.
    Pardon my french.

People can see through your mind … Your mind is ineptly eroded with shear jealous and retrogressive ulterior motives.
Why do you dwell on incendiary comments about that which you do not know of,or latter on understand. Are you familiar with this person ?,where did you hear about him, and what good is it in attempting on what you have started ?
