Former Zambia Army Commander Geojago Musengule bundled in a police van after a Lusaka magistrate court jailed him

Former Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General, Geojago Musengule, has been jailed for four years with hard labour for corruption and abuse of office.

General Musengule has been convicted for irregularly awarding several business contracts to Base Chemicals, a Lusaka based company, when he was army commander.

The contracts to supply fuel to the army are worth millions of US Dollars.

He has also been found guilty of receiving gratification for awarding the contracts to Base Chemicals.

Lusaka Magistrate, Leya Tembo, has also imprisoned Mr. Amon Sibande who is General Musengule’s co accused and Base Chemicals Chief Executive Officer.

Mr. Sibande will serve three years with hard labour for engaging in corrupt activities.

The Court jailed General Musengule and Mr. Sibande despite pleas for leniency.

In mitigation General Musengule and Mr. Sibande said they were first offenders and that they had served the country diligently in the public service and business sector respectively.

General Musengule becomes the third defence chief to be convicted and jailed for corrupt practices and abuse of office.

Former Zambia National Services commandant Lieutenant General, Wilford Funjika, and former Zambia Air force Commander Lieutenant General, Christopher Singogo, are also in prison for similar offences.

    • you hater you will be very disappointed.brace yourself for the outcome of the tribunal.already your so called civil society appear to be so disjointed at the very begining.

  1. This surely sets a very good example to those still in office!! I support the Zambian Judiciary !! Keep up the good work of tracking down corruption.

  2. “The Court jailed General Musengule and Mr. Sibande despite pleas for leniency”. Leniency !!!!!! what could have happened had the country been at war. The General would have been stealing soldiers rations

  3. Mother Zambia, you are shinning example in the world. This justice system that we now have is very good. May the good work continue

  4. Mother Zambia, you are shinning example in the world. This justice system that we now have is very good. May this good work continue forever

  5. Sorry i meant Suit in my last posting. Any the Zambian judicial systems is working thanks in part to the likes of Nawakwi, Dipak, Fred Post Mmembe for calling Chiluba a thief

  6. These are the people we have been entrusting with our national affairs–stealing at breakfast, stealing at lunch and stealing at supper time. For those in power now, watch out. You will also join Geojago at Chimbokaila, Kansenshi and kamfinsa. Inda bakapala shikamilya…

  7. The commissioner prisons should consider sending some of these to Namseche prison in Chipata for real hard labour

    • Bakaele!!! but pleading for leniency by saying they are first offenders is enough admission of guilty. An innocent person will not change plea

    • A ruling is made then you are asked for what you have to say in mitigation before the sentencing. So it is normal to ask for lenienecy because at that level you have already been judged guilty (convicted) and all that remains is for the sentence to be made

  8. If Magaande is implicated in the Zambia Airways saga he might be implicated, corruption is not only about gaining money but also using your position to influence awarding of contracts, loans, jobs etc to your friend or campanys were you have interest, How did NPSA become a collateral of Zambia Airways in getting a big loan, what will happen now will Finance bank grab NAPSA for failure to pay back loan, Nchito should resign on ethical grounds, the case of Doras case is completely different , its possible for politician to be accused with malice for the purpose of the other party gaining political mileage or for the post to seem victimised by a politician because the exposed a politician.

    • Those are lies….Dora is in the public office who should not be involved in corruption. Mutembo was running a business just like Nyama soya was a director of Africa union bank which went down under his directorship and nothing happened to him. But in these two simillar cases of Dora and Mutembo we Zambians are demading that both of them be suspended pending investigations. Why do you want only Mutembo to resign but Dora to continue??? This is being selective in the fight agaist corruption which is so bad in the eyes of God. Let us be fare people. BOTH MUST BE SUSPENDED period!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • iwe kanshi you know the game of deception. in the mean time while the cops are chasing the tail,a crime of high proportion is being commited.

mudala these crimes are common and they make rounds arround the earth.

    • White Collar, blue collar, green collar crimes are crimes nonetheless all of which are punishable. Just imagine what would have happened if Zambia were to go to war and Musengule is the general in charge. He will convert soldiers’ rations to his own use

    • Funjika and Kayumba are Kaondes and not Bembas. They are my tribesmen. Its not like only Bembas are thieves, but any Zambian can be a thief. Even you Kambongolo if you were in a position of authority in FTJ’s (CHIEF THIEF) govt, you were going to steal also irrespective of your tribe. These guys (Geojago, Kayumba, Chungu etc) were caught up in the web of crime in the corrupt FTJ govt as they were encouraged by the CHIF THIEF. Honourable people were resigning upon smelling corruption, e.g. our beloved Late LPM (MHSRIP). But these hyenas and vultures decided to stay on. Now they will reap what they sowed.

  10. In life it is better to be content with what God has given you.Unlike stealing and find yourself in a situation that Musengule has found himself.I hope many people in authority will learn a lesson. If you want to get rich just work hard and aquire wealthy in a transparent manner.

  11. There is a danger here. We can be excited by being reactionaries but the real danger is in those still in service. Could there be some loyal ones to these three former Generals? Those are the ones to watch and be worried about. I don’t want the Guinea Bissau situation taking place in Zambia. People are watching our great nation losing its track and people losing their basic rights with this RB guy. Please watch all we do before we plunge ourselves into chaos. Sorry, some people might interpret differently, but I have to say this, when you see a danger, please warn your friends and try to avoid it. Our govt goes for retired so called corrupt individuals but fails to go after those in…

    • Man there is nothing o fear. Let all who are corrupt be jailed. Whether he or she is a comando, general name them. Let them serve for stealing our money. Now it is clear that all tribes in Zambia are thieves.

    • Exactly. But my concern is legitimate and can happen. My concern is not based fear but plain truth that it can happen anywhere. Humans are humans. Let us address if these four have loyalists, I say four including Kayumba. Remember Kayumba is still walking free. What can he do to protect himself and his friends already in Jails?

  12. This makes sad reading not because the General is going to jail , but the extent of corruption in our institutions ,and how all this contributes to poverty in Zambia. I am sure that even in the Police service the same would apply .Examples are many Chungu at Op , Mumbwa former Prisons service head is in court for corruption DEC the same . What a country with man made poverty.

    • Man it is a shame really. People are dying in great numbers for lack of medicine in hospitals while you have your leaders stealing in the morning, afternoon, evening, night and even in their dreams , they dream stealing our money. What a country called a christian nation. Thats why for me there is no mercy. Whether its Mutembo, Dora, Membe, Nyama soya name them man. If found wanting let them go in. All but not being selective.

  13. WHAT ABOUT RB-WHEN IS HE GONNA BE BUNDLED TO PRISON? RB TRAVELLED ON THAT TICKET TO PLOT ONE. AND HE HAS CONTAMINATED OTHERS.

  14. #26.2 Kambongolo:
Funjika and Kayumba are Kaondes and not Bembas. They are my tribesmen. Its not like only Bembas are thieves, but any Zambian can be a thief. 15. Ghost taumfwa, but beginning to like your thinking. Ok this is nice for Zambia. lets cage all these thieves. We should carry on with the fight. Let arrest and cage Dolla shiling.

  16. Sad to see elders like that man being locked in, when they’re supposed to be enjoying their pensions with their families. The filth from the past will one day catch up with us if we don’t clean up our closet.

    • Your comment in #35 is ace and very true. I like your comments and often very constructive. Keep it bro. It’s people like you that make this site worthy!!

    • OK, I’m not in the mood to argue with you but I will kindly ask you to present your evidence for accusing me of changing names here.

    • Good to see you back with sound words now, your are a grown man .No more disrespecting people you dont know,ha,jus do your self one favor every time you disagree with some ones comment, learn to begin your sentence with the words like Sir,I disagree with you, then state your reasons and thats all.But if you jus run ya mouths like a b*itch that had 7 d*cs in a row, then will we help you to shut tha f*ck up,because some people learn the hard way.I Know Germany is full of hate, but please spare us,cause we aint germany,we are jus some street disciples, hustlin and baggin,is all we know,if are some baby mama sh*t,then shut that ugly mouth of yours before we smoke it,unless ya a*s is sorry the beef i

  17. Chiluba was asked by that American woman – Do you love the dollar and his answer was yes – I love the dollar and she gave him one dollar which he pocketed. Little did Chiluba know that the US intelligence had more information about his activities that they played on his mind. Now, the US are wondering why the little thief is still prying the streets of Lusaka and not in prison. Once that little thief is jailed, the kwacha will gain strengths ten fold. Advise Bwezani Nkongole Banda that to make a name, you either score a goal or die before you score. LPM scored before half time and died before he could score the killer blow and the little thief celebrated.

  18. While I agree that Doras case can also amount to corruption, the case of Zambian Airways can not be ingored becozi Ncito has been a good Lawyer, its like saying Chiluba should not be prosecuted because he fought for muilt party in Zambia, Having occurrances of corruption in the govt should not stop us from addressing corruption committed by private persons using public funds. The private money lost in Zambian Airways is purely a business matter but public funds corruply secured and channelled to public business whether profit or loss making is not a civil but criminal offence, which should be dealt with whether Dora is guilt or not.

  19. This development is interesting…kind of a chronological order going on here but the interesting thing is that most of these high profile guys served in the Chiluba Government aswell. Does this really confirm that corruption/theft by public servant underpinned the Chiluba Government and if so, why is FTJ still chilling? Or maybe its simply justice for the ostracised…which one is it?

    • Iwe ka JD so you are implying Chiluba was the only corrupt leader? Niwe ka hehehe in disguise who hates bemba speaking people?

    • Get your head out your ‘a..se’ and sh..t might stop coming out your mouth. Grow up!! I am a bemba for your information and it does not make me any better than everyone else on here. Apply some simple content analysis and ask your feeble mind to read my post again. What is wrong with twats like you? Always wanting to pick a fight..tell me where you are in England. I will come and find you then you can say that nonsense to face…grow up you c..t!!

  20. I worry about the possible repercussion of having all these former Service Chiefs in prison. I hear some serving soldiers have been murmuring on having their bosses going through the civillian courts rather than the military courts. Put differently, it is considered as a dishonourable among the military men to face a civilian court as opposed to court martial. RBs Government is not inspiring but I hope they have been looking after the soldier boys well well because all it will take is a small eruption of the likes of Mwamba Luchembe over a pint, and they decide to forcefully take them out of Prison. I shudder at the thought but worth airing.

    • Zambians can never do that. Not taking anything for granted but we are cowards and peace loving people. Life is better when you can have a bath, go out and have a pint. Not in the bush.

    • I cannot call our soldiers cowards. All it takes is anger and hunger. Zambians are very brave hence the peace we enjoy. All it takes loss of trust anger patience and someones future being tampered with. Who knew KK can be kicked out? All those Zambian soldiers serving abroad are being hardened with what they see and experience. The only advice I can give is to accept whatever happens just as we have accepted what is happening. Sorry guys it can happen and one day we’ll have no right to blog as we are doing due to some mistakes of our so called leaders. Let’s pray we don’t see that day. Not in our life time and those of our kids and our grand children. And the only pipo who can it, is US.

  21. Its a sad situation guys.Zambians are used to cheap deals even when they live in other countries,Last week more than 10 Zambians nabbed in Dallas USA.

  22. Its a sad situation guys.Zambians are used to cheap deals even when they live in other countries,Last week more than 10 Zambians nabbed in Dallas USA.

  23. Zambia is full of shinka manyelas. Nowadays you can’t buy a goat neither carve a canoe, if you do so you will be sentenced to life imprisonment. And you coward-soldiers, who drink at airport on duty, you are busy with Chibuku while your General is being whipped by bakaponya of MMD? Zambia twasebana…

  24. L.T. please poseniko amano. Too many insults lately on this site making this informative blog/site very distateful and unbelievable what you can see and read in here. What is happening to your censorship???

Please dont bring down L.T in such a way..Just ROOT out the evil doers, sternly..

  25. Chiluba’s stinking generals are going as an advance party to the city of Chimbokaila to prepare for the arrival of their skunking Presidante! Looking at the way Banda is going, he will come 2011 be joining this crew piloted by Kayumba.

  26. yaya LT kupwa uku nomba, different timings but ninshi muli mu zambia, shame the site has gone to the dogs.Naya ku watchdog

  27. I hope this wont be a Hotel standard for this guys as it sounds life fiction.
If not that then well done and all will learn from the same

    • It is for real hotel standard,u dnt expect buju to mistreat former Commander bufi not in Zambia.Maybe they will even be lodging in their homes and then picked early bells b4 sunrise back to the cells.Ee life iyi pa Zed

  28. The Only person who came out clean in Chiluba’s Administration,is Levy Mwanawasa, basala aba ni Pompwe.Whether they like it or not, they participated in stealing from the poor Zambians and they deserve to die (Pls,not prison, awe),coz,so many Pipo died of luck of medicine at UTH & other Hospitals while they were busy buying fancy suits & shoes. These Trojans commited crimes against Humanity, and let them be hanged.

    • yo dude wats up,u look cool,in those white T Shirts, cause they symboliz being raw en Underground, its good threads for street dudes, big up

  29. Guys, I agree to the fact that our Generals have been found wanting by the courts of Law. But I think that there is a better way to treat them. For someone to have served the nation to that level means a lot of dedication and love for one’s country. In my view, that long service by these Generals is enough reason to say-suspended sentence for all of them. In addition we could even have some of their property confiscated by the state. I wonder what could be going on in the minds of the thousands of soldiers who were and still are loyal to these Generals. I obviously have a very soft spot for them purely on the basis of their service to the nation, not civilian service but Military service.

  30. Kadoyo, I agree that crime should be punished and our Judiciary is simply doing its job sentencing our Generals according to the Laws of Zambia. It is just that sometimes, being human, anything that brings suffering to anyone makes me feel like crying. I know that just being found guilty is devastating to our Generals. I pray for each one of them, that they may ask for God’s forgiveness and even as they serve their sentences which have been rightly passed by our Judges they will take heart and understand that our Laws demand that it be so. Obviously, I commend our Judges for all the work they do. Thanks

  31. The only worry I have on these generals being jailed is that they should have been dealt by their own courts. In KK days they had their own courts. What has happened? Otherwise I feel many retired would have been convicted in these days. I have yet to see a poor general of KK time. These guys they had their own ‘court mashal’ or something like that. It is worrying and dangerous to be dealt in civilian courts of law. There has been a breakdown of system somewhere and with what is going on now we need a truth commission and reconciliation thereafter, start afresh….

  32. Infact ,most soldiers are celebrating with civilian populace,at last the greedy elephant who deprived them of good leadership and better life has been jailed.

  33. Regina Chiluba jailed 3 1/2 years today. sad day for the Chiluba’s all of them will end up behind bars. Next FTJ after Dora, Xaviour,Sibanda, Francis and others. lelo pa Zed, at least it has restored my confidence in the Judiciary.

  34. This is a joke, these people are not going to prison as LT is reporting. Singogo is still at home and this one it’s just reporting prison but on bail. Prison should mean prison.

  35. Lesa wabonse tepapa ngo wako loma, everthing has its own time, yafika time yako, i sympathise with the family though

  36. CIRCUS IN ZAMBIA, SINGOGO IS OUT ON K30M BAIL.REGINA HAS BEEN SENTENCED TO 2.5YEARS,2MORO SHE WILL BE OUT ON BAIL EQUALLY MUSENGULE HAS APPEALED FOR BAIL. USELESS JUDGES AND JUDGEMENT,KEEP THE NEWS TO YOURSELF RIFRAFS.ITS SO ANNOYING TO HEAR CRIMINALS BEING CONVICTED AND RELEASED ON BAIL,NONSENSE,,,,

  37. This should be a sad day for zambia and all of central africa. people work up. tell me what got better since kk left office. not even one industry achievment to help with un employment. no social calture exist exept night clubs so prostitution, alcoholisim, AIDS are high. we need leaders who will build zambia. it’s a paturn get into power jail the privious on and so on. first kk chiluba…. either jail or some end up dead. zambia workup – when a leader in power is accused they never go to jail- they are asked to resign or reassigned.settling old scores by putting an inocent man in jail is wrong. tell me one common family which received pention in the past 8 years. usa we pray for…

  38. Let us address the root cause of why our Generals are in Prison. We all know that the reach the level of Army or ZAF Commander, you have to be politically correct, hence once the Presidency changes, there goes your job. What we dont have in this country is proper remuneration of these jobs to provide for a decent life after retirement hence the abuse. We have former Generals living in Libala after retirement and those still serving, are seeing these things. Lets address the root cause please otherwise we will be the laughing stock of the whole world, if we are not already.
