Vice president George Kunda after receiving a petition from Copperbelt province minister Mwansa Mbulakulima on Mutembo Nchito

Government says it will intensify the fight against corruption. Vice President George Kunda says the move is aimed at ensuring prosecution of all those involved in the plunder and misapplication of public resources.

Mr. Kunda was speaking in Lusaka today when he received a petition from a Copperbelt-based civil society organizations and presented to him by Copperbelt Minister Mwansa Mbulakulima.

Mr. Kunda, who is also Justice Minister, said government will spare no efforts in cramping down on corruption.

He said Zambia is governed by the tenets of the law and no person whether in the private or public sector is above the law.

He noted that government will intensify the fight against blackmail, corruption, crime and abuse of office because it had a moral obligation to protect the people of Zambia from activities aimed at undermining national development.

Mr. Kunda further said that investigations into Zambia Airways will continue in order to determine the master minders in the suspension of the operations of the Airline and the people involved in the US$29 million debt.

“The people involved in the case in question will be prosecuted accordingly and those who write about corruption and crime such as the Post Newspaper Managing Editor Fred M’membe and the people who prosecute corrupt people such as Mtembo Nchito will be prosecuted accordingly because they are not above the law,” Mr. Kunda said.

Mr. Kunda further assured the nation that government will do its best to ensure that the former directors of the Zambian Airways pay back the debt they owe to various government institutions.

He has since called on the civil society in the country to develop keen interest in fighting corruption and ensure that the people involved in corruption, blackmail, abuse of office and crime are persued and prosecuted.

The petitioners are demanding the removal of public prosecutor Mtembo Nchito from the taskforce on corruption to pave way for investigations in the suspended operations of Zambia Airways where he is the Chief Executive Officer.

The petitioners included the Copperbelt Constitution Coalition (CCC), International Ministers Fellowship and Affiliated Churches (IMFAC) and Constituency Concerned Citizens Forum (CCCF).

Meanwhile,CCCF Publicity Chairman Wilbroad Mutoloka said the petitioners feared that Mr. Nchito was an interested party whose functions would comprise the investigation process if he did not step-down as public prosecutor.

    • Kunda is bluffing. the debt was there during Mwanawasa’s time and kunda knew about. They paid Nchito millions of kwacha. what has changed now? He is not giving them good kick-backs?

  1. The accused is considered innocent until proven guilty. Thus both Mutembo and Dora are innocent at least for now.

  2. Blessed is the day Mutembo was born, what a down to earth man. He does’t complain despite the accusations. These pstors will bake in hell, you can question people who go to their tutemba churches…you pastors emulate the authentic SDA pastors who are down to earth. Remember these pastors want to honour someone on the verge of joining the wife somewhere, thus they insatible hate for Nchito. As for Nchito thanks a million. Philo.

    • #6 I somewhat do agree with you when you mention about the FAKE pastors , I guess on their side it is all about the frustration after a FAKE Rev Nyirongo was sent to jail ,so they really want to hit back on Nchito. These devils won`t succeed. if only there were genuine in there pursuit.

    • You shall not insult pastors ,if Nchito is innocent let the law speak for him. Nchito (job) has been at the forefront of fighting corruption. Let us see if he had removed the spake in his eye before pointing a finger at others! wouldnt that be great to know? You cant take the fight against corruption personally. Corruption has a home in every human being. May be brother Job (Nchito) forgot that he was a human being. Its time to check the skeletons in his wardrobe! No should be above the law…Nchito inclusive pls!

    • Then why should pastors be involved in politics,I thought the kingdom of heaven is not earthly, they should concentrate on sheparding the flocks, thats why we have to many infidels who claim to be christians and yet their fruits reflect darkness, hypocrites who only worship God on sundays and saturdays,we are all hell bound, dont you wonder why christ questioned if at all he was going to find faith when he comes, its all dead, christianity is dead its all hypocrisy its all vivid even on this blog.We even have so called mimic christians who only remember God when they are offended or when they face trouble, way to go.We need a Moses generation,God help me Resurrect it.

    • Man these guys are not pastors but imposters. Any way petitioning they can do but not being selective as they are. God demands justice and fareness in the way we execute our judgement. Let Dora and Mutembo be suspended. Why letting doral stealing more from poor Zambians. We are watching your pace Nyama soya.

    • Great comment. The Bible is clear that you will know them by their fruits. Some characters who are masquerading a God’s people will one day be in trouble when the judgements wvisits them. The only unfortunate thing is that those they are duping now will also have no excuse for having been mislead by some pastors.

  3. Mr Kunda trying to potray a picture of the government that is trying to fight corruption. But Mr Kunda is a man who has been trying to defend people facing corruption charges. He tried in his capacity as attorney general and justice minister to stop Kashiwa Bulaya,s cases. But he failed and where is Bulaya today? At the moment mr Kunda has been and is defending Dora. The issue of Mutembo has got more than what people visibly sees.Mutembo is a man who has been dealing with these cases involving Chiluba and others.By making Mutembo step down as prosecutor,George knows that Chiluba,s cases will be dropped and stopped. The aim is turnish the image and integrity of Mutembo and the post,s editor…

    • Indeed, Chewe, you are absolutely right! George is applying selective justice to frustrate Mutembo’s fight against corruption. After all, it is the Post that began the corruption fight and George was against the fight from the start. Now, George and his boss RB have made deals with Chiluba and other criminals and they want to remove the only person who was independent enough to do his prosecution work without fear or favor. George, your time will come – soon! Enjoy your 15 minutes of fame.

    • There is no smoke without fire…..Nchito is not Christ, the post is not the Bible. Corruption is human nature. Let the law take its course remember those who kill by the sword they will die by the sword. There should be nothing wrong wih prosecuting Nchito if he has committed crimes the treatment he has given to others should be accorded to him. Remember he was paid to prosecute corruption cases. if it turns out he himself is corrupt which I believe he is , what a worst of money it has been to pay him for prosecuting other people for actions that he himself is capable of!

  4. Mr. Mutembo is innocent until proven guilty. Why do you want him removed when Dora who is also appearing before the tribunal is left to continue serving as a Min. For now there is no court case against Mr Nchito. So if he goes let Ms. Siliya also go if you have to be fair. Mr Nchito stay cool i like your humble attitude. God be with you

    • It’s people like you who are not fair. You were the first to call for Dora’s blood when this issue came out. Why can’t other people call for Nchito’ s removal if they felt the same way you feel about Dora. And please leave those pastors alone. They have every right to do what they are doing. There is no perfect being on this earth. Be it SDA, Jehovah’s witness, Catholic, Pentecostal, you name it. All these groupings are wrought with illicit sex, thefts and other vices perpetrated by leaders. Don’t point a finger at the bad guy lest he points a finger at you. Go home and ask the man in the mirror how clean he is.

  5. These guys are using the same tactics developed by VJ. Use the “public” media to push Mutembo to be fired. Mutembo never got paid at ZA and was among the first poeple to fight corruption after Chiluba’s misrule. The fight will go on. God bless Zambia.

  6. Zambians, what is going on that we let Nkhande, Dora etc continue stealling our money while demanding others not in govt to be jailed??? i fail to understand this pipo. Kunda for ounce show maturity please.

  7. These petitioners are so suspicious. Were they also given money to support MMD?
Copperbelt Constitution Coalition (CCC), International Ministers Fellowship and Affiliated Churches (IMFAC) and Constituency Concerned Citizens Forum (CCCF). Has anyone heard of them? Everyone we know is questioning Dora (Attoryney General, Sondashi, Harrington, Sata, etc)! Kunda and RBB are defending Dora but their support is questionable.

    • if Nchito is innocent let the law say so… why defend him. its like you guys dont even want Nchito to go to court and prove his innocence. where even the once almighty chiluba goes to court for corruption who the hell is Nchito to be shelter from law!

    • What we are having is an Animal Farm situation! Why should Dora maintain the position? This is trying to fight corruption with vengeance!

    • #13.1 Porous think tank , do you remember or are you able to recall the third term debate , it all started like this fake “men of God” going to the media in support of Chiluba ..if it is trully Nchito erred then he should be prepared to face the law . But what is being paraded by Kunda is total nonsense. These are all men of the same profession and doing work on behalf of Zambia why the bitterness towards Nchito ??? something amiss ,think tank, think beyond the box

    • My brother, you are right Nchito should also be prosecuted, but dont u think this is all RB’s games? take a look at this, Xavier truned himsellf in after LEVY died, how and on what grounds, personally i think RB wants Nchito to resign so that the case for FTJ will be on on hold.

    • Spot on! Just wait & see, these same guys will be visited by the Law & chaps will even get so slime! In jail, there’s nothing like being a small hippo or Impala as you are reduced to a more sizable level, so I hope govt is clean!

  8. This sounds like a warning!! Actually it is. Not even the President is above the law.

Thanks Mr Kunda for making it clear.

  9. Kunda & his colleagues will cry in the near future if they think that they can abuse this power they’re enjoying now, and expect to live a peaceful life. This fight of corruption based on vengeance will make them suffer, or even have early death. Kings are the ones who should do what is happening as the subjects have nothing much to talk about.

Kunda is a sick man, & honestly what will happen if in future he’s locked up? Only God knows!

  10. Mutembo Nchito is humble man.Who has sacrificed his time and energy in the fight against corruption. The man did not start dealing with these cases for money. But for the sake of trying to sweep the vice in our country.what is happening now is very sad because George and friends, are trying to neutralise people who have been in forefront in this fight.

    • The Saying goes that,” he who treads softly goes very far”! I hope these govt officials will not start crying in Court when being cross-examined. FTJ cried like baby, but a few years ago he called himself a Master dribbler!!

    • Humble? only God knows a man’s heart. Chewe you are wrong Nchito was hired by mwanawasa and since the apointment he has been poor people’s tax money. its a job he was hired to do not a cause he raised for himself. The money spent on him and his minions clearly exceed the benefit the poor Zambians have recovered from the so called fight against corruption.I can not ascribe motives yet to Kunda and gang based on mere speculations, but recognize that he is now the govt. So its important for us to know whether our Dear Brother Job (Nchito) has been honorable in his work….hope that is ok with you. no one is perfect let the law take its course.

  11. Kunda soiled his pants in the Bulaya case, one would hope that he had washed them by now, some do not learn from their mistakes.

  12. Zambia national soccer team also, very disappointing indeed. Its not even 30 minutes into the first and they are down by 2 goals.Thats why i just support chelsea .Congo Dr 2,Zambia 0 .

    • imwe na imwe vonse ati its the problems the country is facing. if we suck at football then we suck. fullstop.

    • But when they win they are the best. Stop slagging them off. Its either you support them or you don’t. Not this see saw behavior you like to exhibit.

    • naimwe ba chewe..how can u compare a national team and a club?at leats mwakambako ati i hate power dynamos and support chelsea.

  13. There’s only one King,”Lord Most High is awesome”. He is the
great King of all the earth & does not judge people through vengeance!

  14. We will wait to see if Chiluba is finally jailed coz we are tired of these headlines,i think the media too is playing a rle in boring us with the same crap day after day.On a light note,i wish Banda could see how smartly dressed these chaps with Kunda are,Banda is so untidy..LOL

  15. Geologist Canada i totally agree with you.Everything in Zambia is in a mess.Even football ma problems awe mwandini.God help us!

    • Here I am ba neighbour, mwamfuluka? I had a busy one today, just returned from work. This statement is true for the small culprits but what about the big ones? They somehow always bend the rules to fit themselves when they’re in power.

    • Only mad people speak to themselves,If a man insisted always on being serious, and never allowed himself a bit of fun and relaxation, he would go mad or become unstable without knowing it

  16. Guys,

I have received an email that there are 11 Zambians netted by the US FBI and Immigration SWAT in Dallas, TX for Federal TAX cook up, Green Card manufacturing and visa violation. They need US $20,000 per head to appear before the Judge.Any clue if we have bloggers from Dallas Texas? These fellas at at risk of serving jail terms then deported. I hear paying the US $20K for each will expedited their deportation instead of serving years in the US then deported. Is there a fund raising channel arranged and what where these people doing school, work or these criminal activities in the US? I have since googled and it seems there is a Zambian association. What is the assocition doing anyway?

    • Chisha, where on earth did you raise money for criminals? to hell with your request! let those bastards face the law. They think this is kalingalinga or matero where they manufucture fake degrees….shame on you shame on your crooked friends chisha! its better to send that $20,000 to educate orphaned kids in Zambia than sponsor criminals.

  17. I want to submit a petition for a tribunal to investigate the roughing up of Harrington as well. How can I make an appointment with the VP since this is now his daily occupation (receiving petitions)?

  18. Anarchy in the country we heard what happened in Guinea Bissau president killed bcoz of revenge.Zambians watch out whats going on.Open docates to any pastor in zambia by members of the church.Very suspicious events.God rescue us.

  19. While you are bloliticking, the price of copper is (apparently) on the up. God Bless Zambia and the World

  20. I dont think zambia has a shortage of qualified prosecutors. We in zambia have well trained personnel in almost every field . The only limitation is the resources to pay them reasoble income. But unfotunate for mutembo he has even dragging cases of the task force to milk the grz .
Some would even wonder where in the first place he got the money to invest in zambian airways . The money came from the government through the task force and he wants to use the window of zambian airways to get more. W hat a shame!

    Lets bring back “SITET”

  21. Well Mutembo is a man.He has indeed shaken the entire RB govt.Such are credibal lawyers.Thanx for leting us know tht no one is above the law,ba Kunda u r now desperate and u wana frustrate Nchito,no ways hes a strong contender

  22. LPM has been dead 6 months now. Magande stopped being a minister 3months ago so how did Magande manage to do the things him ,Nchito and MMembe are being accused of? Its not possible. All these guys(MMD) are trying is to whip public hatred for these noble trio. And knowing how desperate we are for riches and what these entail we walk from far flung places to petition the VP for recognasion’s sake. Mr Kunda should by now the way Zambians betray their benefactors once they out office. If the TRIO have commited any offence let the normal law take its course not these childish petitions from money mongers, please

  23. if Zambian Ariways was been runned by Indians, Chinese, or any so called investor and may be was also in a financial crisis, and borrowed the maoney from the govt i wonder if they were going to be prosecuted.? since nibazungu

  24. So gentlemen what should we do as Zambians about the $30m/ K150billion loan that Nchito got? forget about it? where did it go by the way.

    • its either he pays it back or he goes to jail. As a lawyer he should know better and hope the judge that sentences him gives him twice whatever sentence he gets….sis man!

    • Going to jail is no solution,No one will benefit. He shud just pay,if he donsen’t have it make him work for it till it’s due

    • Mr. Ka’D what is it with you and jail? Haven’t you ever heard of other measures used to punish perpetrators such as community work, providing your services for free, house arrest, etc?Man if you were a judge in the U.S. the jury themselves would have debarred you from the Legal Fraternity! Get very real…Don P you’re making sense- going to jail is no solution but a very backward mono solution for punishing folks- I believe that in some cases jail is no rehabilitation center especially in the Zed!As Zambians we need to get away from vengeance for our personal satisfaction but think of future implications or the way forward.Or is it part of our nurture as Africans? If it is then we need…

    • i honestly don’t understand you people. Firstly what makes you think these laws where only made for ordinary Zambians (only ordinary Zambians should go to jail) Crimes differs. in the case of somebody stealing you can say they pay back or get jailed if they fail, but crimes like accepting bribery, corruption failing to pay taxes etc, you cant say pay back or community work, etc. There is a reason why these laws were put down. Get your facts straight before you try and justify exclusion of other members of the community from lawful justice. Then you cry that Zambia is too corrupt. Do you people really know what you want honestly?

    • Nah Ka’D don’t get me wrong…I didn’t say differentiate ordinary Zambians to the so called high profile in our court system! Please read and understand…you seem to be a person who preconceives the content of a document instead of reading and understanding it!And mind you we are all ordinary Zambians just because someone is a general, president don’t mean that someone’s different- we all bleed RED brother!

  25. NAPSA has always been a problem in paying pensions now i know where they have been taking the money ZA. by the way when did NAPSA become a bank to start lending money to companies? NAPSA directers should not be turned into state witnesses but be brought to book as conspirators.

    • Is Zambian Airways the only company that lent money to ZA. I dont know if you have noticed this especially in Gvt Papers they just mention Zambian airways even where there are three o more companies listed.

  26. The whole country has been busy yapping about . We have forgotten there is work to do. You walk in any work place. People spend the first 1hr 30min reading papers another 2hours outwitting each other about Dora, Membe, Nchito, Kunda and RB. They will now require an extra 1hour what with drama on Shaka’s sacking. The result the whole system is collapsing. No mealie meal on the Copperbelt. Personally am affected. Last night I were busy arguing about this whole nonsense with my wife only to realise the ka Nshima was burning. People be alert but get back to work.

  27. Mr Kunda the begining of your speech was excellent.Unfortunately you messed it up by mentioning the Investigations that are going on with the suspension of ZA.This tells me that you prepared this speech not for the benefits of Zambians as you claim, but you did it coz you wanted to attack Nchito and M’membe.I was going to give you 99.9% for the good speech, but now that you messed it up at the end I will give you 0.1%.I know that you are you(govt) are doing a great jod by investigating all the pipo suspected of corruption, but please do it in a fairly way not becoz someone has been opposing your wrong doings then you want to use the issue of corruption as a weapon. No it doesn’t work like…

  28. There is no case. Its much ado about nothing. Businesses fail. They borrow to save their investments. But sometimes its like pouring water in a basket. Welcome to Capitalism 101. Its a jungle out there. Its not a crime to lose money. Only a moron would insist on seeing a crime where there is none. Lehman Brothers went down, Meryll Lynch is no more. So what exactly is so special about Zambian Airways and $30m?

  29. Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone puts his hand on you, send him to the cemetery

  30. Mr Kunda SC, leave them credible lawyers do their work in combating corruption cases. Your Lordship was acquired thru dubious means, equaly yo children.Who doesnt knw that no one is above the law.Its worldwide for information even my 1year 10months old niece is aware abt the law, nonsense

    • Mr. Nkunda or not the rebel leader in DRC, meant Kunda SC knows what he is doing, he backs his pals remember Kashiwa (Bulaya = Kill in Lozi) and attacks his competitors

    • That explains it he is no lawyer at all! One would just wonder those utterances without facts! Some people are very luck and pushes their luck too far. His end will be disastrous for insulting an innocent person for nothing by protecting a brainless old man!

  31. The people of Zambia will not be cheated. It is a shame that the whole of a Vice President could sink so low and for that matter a well learned man and lawyer. Who is Dr. Paul Mulenga – a fraud Bishop! In 2006 election he was on our TV, later he crooked people of one of the compounds in Lusaka who first implicated Mrs. Lupando Mwape……. This government is not taking us anywhere! Kunda tell the people the truth…..If Mutembo is guilt of all what you are saying why hire people for parades on TV! Organisations that do not exist!!! SHAME!!

  32. You know what pals, lets not confuse justice with revenge here. Making political/ideological opponents suffer or die is common in Africa. We are genetic sarvages and none can change that, not now. Oh yes! I want justice but Im also not foolish to not to see whats going on.

  33. Why no petition for TAZARA. Owe its all about finishing off a perceived enemy, a promoter of opposing views. What a shame mwebakulu bonse fyo

  34. Fellow bloggers. Whats the latest on Mopani Copper Mines? I picked up something from the grapevine that the mines have been closed and put under care and maintenance also. Any clue?!!!!!!!!!

  35. I wonder where all the regular bloggers are today. it feels like Sunday and yet it’s only Thursday. Well, let me join the strike if that’s what everyone’s doing. Byeee!!!

  36. i am sure if Chiluba was to be sentenced to Jail because he cant pay the money back., most of you people will cry fowl when in actual fact you have been lobbing for that all along. All of the sudden you will be feeling sorry for him and saying the government is not fair. Just whats up with you Zambian. Make up your minds and stick to one thing and stop contradicting yourselves for heavens sake. Open your eyes and not just your hearts!

    • If we “make up your mind and stick to one thing” will end up send pipo who are supposed to go to hospital to prison. The world is changing so should be our logic and opnions.elo iwe ulika’doyo.finshi ulelanda.

    • Mwayiche its called “Principles” which most of us fellow Zambians lack. Thats why most fellow Zambians are scared to have Tongas or lozis (I am not being tribal) as rulers because they have got principles….. Tu much uluse pa Zed

  37. “He noted that government will intensify the fight against blackmail, corruption, crime and abuse of office because it had a moral obligation to protect the people of Zambia from activities aimed at undermining national development.

Nice note Mr Minister of justice Veep G. Kunda. I hope you all who are now leading us are aware of the consequences your current decisions have for you in the future. All the very best and keep well.

  38. I am just thinking about this Nchito and Member issue .So if Nchito is found guilty then he might ba going to chibokaile or Maximum prison in Mukobeko-kabwe, and he might be with geojago Musengule, Singogo,Nyriongo Gladys and even or Regina Chiluba. The people he would have started cases on and they might find themselves in the same bought.eeeh. Time will tell as to whether there guilty or not RB just wants Membe but even though if they had to arrest Mmembe the post will continue to run its a company not an individual he is not the one who writes the news his the editor. They can find someone to replace him for the time being.I can now see wher RB is going. guys you hav a point why no Dora.

    • More case are coming after the 2011 elections I think. There have been alleged corruption in campaigns especially the 2008 election ones. Mr Shakafuswa has indicated that he knows how the MMD GRZ works during election times (see the watchdog) as he has started campaigning for his Katuba seat for MP since he as been expelled from the MMD. Interesting enough, Mr Shakafuswa has not indicated whether he will be joining his original party the UPND Team or stand as an Independent candidate though he has made it clearly known according Zambian watchdog that he will not be joining the PF because of the Undereducate’s way of leadership. There are reports that he has been invited to the U-Team and…
