Focus on Algeria Vital-Katongo

Zambia captain Christopher Katongo has said the pressure is on the team to record another 2010 Group C win when they host Algeria on June 20 in Chililabombwe.

“Algeria will be a different game, with different tactics and different players,”: Katongo said in Chililabombwe after the game at Konkola Stadium.

He also said there was a need to improve on the teams finishing after recording their four win via a 1-0 score line from 6 2010 World/Africa cup qualifying matches played.

“Our strikers missed a lot of chances and we need that instead of winning 1-0 all the time,” he said.

Katongo however, said it was good to see Zambia maintain their momentum in Group C on 4 points from two games played.

Zambia lead Group C on 4 points, three more than 2nd placed Egypt who are away to 3rd placed Algeria this evening in Blida in a 21:30 kick-off.

Meanwhile, Zambia regroup tomorrow evening in Lusaka to begin preparations for their match against Algeria.

  1. tell mbesuma to careful, had that game ended in defeat or draw yesterday nga twalimubeya amaso.the guy is finished after a short spell of form.let him come back to luanshya and enjoy his shake shake after the price has been reduced

  2. Going by yesterday’s perfomance, chances of beating algeria are very slim! come 20th june, we will be sliced on our own turf! poor display, wasted goals + a clear penalty! hopeless chaps!

  3. Chris tekanya mwaiche, these days its not necessary to win by 4-0, even Brazil or Holland with hiper strikers fail to score. I watched that game, Given, yourself Katongo, Mulenga and Chamanga, even Mbesuma even though he was playing with sorrow of missing penalty, where creating super openning. But did you notice that Rwanda had 6 defenders against 2 strikers? Zambia has good players, thats it. No worries!!

  4. #2….why speaking like that? grow up…may be you are not zambian. To hell with you. leave us alone fwebene its iyee iyee chipolopolo…
Ati ba zambia ngababoma nomwela wabola eyaa..ayee ayee mama eee. Ati ba zambiaaaaaa……bazambia……. Waumfwa ichimuwela iwe ka # 2. Come 20 june . Algeria alala , alala, algeria alala, alala.

  5. just the game and i think we wasted too many chances as well as balls. Those long passes were not helping in any way. Nevertheless well done boys. By the way What was with the coach Hugging the lines man?

  6. #5, to hell with your a.–s—-s. pakanwa kwati lisabi. bakamiwina! ati chipolopolo ,yakumunzi kwako?

  7. LT # 1 AKAPONDO SHOULD BE DELETED, HOW DO YOU ALLOW SUCH INSULTS ON YOUR SITE?????????? COULD IT BE THAT THIS IS AN ALL INSULTING SITE???

  8. Mwayambako ukulwa over the performance of Zambia. There is word of encouragement and there is truth telling. Both of you are right in your own ways. But screaming at each other seems to be over board. So, chill guys. Ni Bbola fye iyi.

  9. #10 Abena mwitwa
Nishani mwafulungana,by the way are related to the late timothy mwitwa.he had better skills than mbesuma

  10. its good that we managed to collect maximum points yesterday though the performance wasnt that good or atleast as was expected. I think the problem our team has is that their opponents dictate the kind of game that we play. Come june 20, we will see a much faster game because that is what the north africans specialise in so Herve and crew dictate your game and continue collecting maximum points and please improve on the number of goals to score. We may need them at some point.

  11. All well meaning and patriotic Zambians must simply rally behind our team. We won, and thats what matters. To be honest, I think Mbesuma is one of the most talented footballers in Zed. We can’t take it away from. He simply had a bad day. To all those @ Konkola, lets keep the fire burning!

  12. I was very disappointed with the status of the Konkola stadium.sure Kalusha Bwalya you mean it can cost Faz money to employ some pipo to water the football pitch sure.

  13. Watching the game on SABC although I’m happy we won the football was below par. These two teams could not string more than two passes together yet they are national teams! Awe guys we must come to South Africa to win the world cup as Africans. May be it was the turf. However, the Stadium doesnt belong to FAZ. FAZ hires it from the owners who should use the money to improve facilities.

  14. #18 watched the game too. It was pathetic and I thought Rwanda played better after they conceded. We need to seriously improve before the Algeria game.

Yesterday I wonder why the football thread turned into a FAT BOY Mbesuma thread, after watching him miss that penalty I now understand why everybody was on him. That guy took the kick in a casual manner he even had a second chance and hit it without any conviction at all. Why do we still have this FAT BOY Mbesuma in the team. His is just too unfit to play and not serious about his football career

  15. LUSAKA TIMES THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR PROVIDING ACCESS TO WATCH THE ALGERIA VS EGYPT GAME WHICH THE LATER LOST VIA A 3-1 BASHING TONIGHT. KEEP UP THE LEAD AND LIFT HIGHER THE ZAMBIAN FLAG. BRAVO.

  16. Turn Mbesuma into an Attacking Mid Fielder and i can see a future for him to do good u guys are always looking for a mid fielder…

calling for his head wont do anyone any good…even Chris would have missed that penalty

Renard Knows what this Boy is Capable off..

why does every one want this guy to be Skinny..

    Look at Hesky..

all this boy needs is discipline and consistency…and i know what everyone is thinking…

    just kick him out

    then what..?

  17. The Boys should not Camp in SA because, most of them play in foreign leagues. They should get used to Konkola Stadium playing tuff and also, get used to the Zambian climate and food and everything. In that way, they shall be truily playing at home against Algeria.Camping in South Africa is just for leisure,I see no sense in practising in a foreign gym other than our own.Faz should hault to going to SA of this team,we need to be serious.

  18. Amuna you are talking crap. Algeria camped in France, Cameroun in Belgium. Camping away makes the boys to concentrate, camping in Zambia means all kinds of people come to hotel, phone call etc.

  19. Algeria ikashupa pantu Nakwata game iyibi , with that slopy finishing against Rwanda we can Kiss goodbye to victory against Algeria..Nabila Algeria not even Egypt can cough..

  20. this tym we have to be lethal in front of goal,it means nothing 2 paly gud intertaining soca witout scoring, ask asno about that
