Stone crusher crushed to death

Share

A stone crusher of Kamushanga compound in Kabwe district was instantly killed yesterday when the pit he was digging collapsed on him.

Japhet Zimba, 39, was earlier in the morning seen keeping warm with friends by the fire at the pit before he met his fate around 09:30 hours.

Eye witnesses found at the scene described the death of their colleague as sad and called on government to look into the plight of disadvantaged people in the nation.

And Kamushanga Resident Development Committee (RDC) Chairperson, Alfred Kabango, lamented that as long as people in the area continue to search for stones they would remain at risk of being buried alive.

Mr Kabango said the RDC and Kabwe Municipal Council officials last week cautioned the stone crushers over the illegal activities and dangers of creating tunnels when looking for stones to crush and later sell.

Police have since retrieved the body and taken it to Kabwe General Hospital mortuary awaiting burial.

  3. Ubipina lisambi.how does somebody die a cruel death like that one whilst trying to eke out a living.nachipipisha ku lupwa maybe he was the sole bread winner.

  4. sad news….indeed the govt has to improve living standards to avoid such deaths. it pains fo 1 to die while struggling to earn a living while others ar busy stealing public funds…..i believe god sees all this and one day he shall judge us accordingly………

  5. Apparently these guys(stone crushers) were given a fore warning but they ignored.Thats why they say ukwali insoke takwafile muntu! It’s a shame that a life was lost but i tell you bloggers, ifinyamunyamu fyali zanda. They are so rigid that they even brag that “rules and laws are there to be broken!” So here we go!!!

  6. Safety kwisunga mwine. Bad incident but pipo are forced into all sorts of activities to make ends meet. Kabwe Manicipal Council and ZP should sensitize residents on the dangers of using unsafe methods to conduct business activities such mining stones etc. If not handled we are yet to witness alot of deaths and dust related chest diseases.

  7. Very sad indeed!

That said, following “Eye witnesses found at the scene” is not only tautology but also wrong grammar and use of vocabulary.

An eye witness is somebody who was/is present when something happens (happened) and gives first hand information or an account of what he/she saw of an event unfolding.

Thus saying an “eye witness at the scene” is misplaced grammar and wrong English!

If the source quoted was present when the accident happened simply say, “Eye witness” “says or said,” that is it. No need saying “Eye witness on the scene”.

Secondly, the so called eye-witnesses are not on record, why? Were they part to the “criminal act” of some kind or it was just laziness by a ZANIS reporter and Editor to do a good job?

  8. Ubupina bwachila mo pa Zed. Echilelenga abantu ukulafwa in such a way fending for their families or is it laziness taba fwaya ukubomba enchito shalondoloka?
