Chief Macha of the Tonga people of Choma district has disassociated himself from a statement made by Chief Nalubamba of the Ila people of Namwala district on Saturday that President Rupiah Banda had lost wholesome support of Southern Province Chiefs.

Speaking when Southern Province Permanent Secretary Darius Hakayobe paid a courtesy call at the Chief’s palace yesterday, Chief Macha said Chief Nalubamba did not consult widely before issuing a sweeping statement on Saturday.

The traditional leader said he was entitled to his own opinion and wondered why Chief Nalubamba decided to include other Chiefs in his own opinion.

”Southern Province Chiefs includes me but I was not consulted. What is happening in Macha is very good for us. Roads and bridges are being done and this country is big, so we can’t expect the government to do everything at once,” he said.

Chief Macha said he was disappointed when he heard the story that President Rupiah Banda looses wholesome support of Southern Province chiefs.

He said if at all there was a meeting where that was resolved, he was not there.

Chief Macha has since advised government to include Chiefs in seminars and other diplomatic courses in which they could learn more about quality leadership, code of conduct and ethics adding that many of them were just appointed by members of their families and did not know anything about diplomacy.

He said unless government takes up such decisive steps as educating the Chiefs on issues such as conduct, they would continue to lead in what he described as a very embarrassing situation.

”We need to learn basic law and diplomacy and by learning this we will know what to talk about and when to talk about it,” he said.

Chief Macha observed that government was doing everything possible to ease the lives of people adding that everything that government was doing to bring about development could be seen everywhere in his Chiefdom.

He said he thanked government for whatever little it did to ease the lives of the people in his area adding that currently, government was busy working on roads in his area.

He observed that as a leader, not everybody can like you adding that criticism was normal.

  1. Even if you are correct, it is wrong for someone to speak on your behalf without your permission. Chief Nalubamba errored by representing other chiefs on the matter when his statement was not representing their interest.
He must have sought their approval for representation, they are not politicians after all.

  2. Chief Nalubamba lacks maturity, even if he disagrees with RB he should not use cheap language from the POST. ‘I do not respect RB’………. attacking personalitites should be left to quarrels in bars……I think he should be considersd first for a course in diplomacy.

  3. Freedom of expression, that chief (in the post) spoke in his individual capacity and some is countering him on what basis? It is now prpanganda and politics at work. Chiefs in politics are being used like cadres. Can we stop this or we are lost countrymen and women.

  4. Greetings bloggers
It’s nice to join the community again after a long break. I can see that the political issues are still dominating the blog and this time Chiefs arguing over who said what? Let me read on…

  5. The problem with our chiefs is that they are very submissive to the ruling party. When they see RB they go rigid with fear with a tail down between the legs. Why can’t they stand tall and elaborate on real issues than flaunting this kind of disunity?

  7. Education is power Chief Macha has sanctimoniously nailed it all.Bravo Chief Macha and owe to Bright Nalubamba!

  8. Chief Nalubamba had clearly stated that he was speaking in hid individual capacity. It appears Chief Macha has been bribed. Chief Nalubamba was talking about morality of RB embrasing a thief like Chiluba. It was not about development. No wonder Chiefs are being bought by who ever has got some bucks.

  10. I suspect that chief Macha was given kangono, I give my respect to Chief Nalubamba coz I was talking without fear or favour. What was the PS doing at the chief’s place ???????? for me he went to correct the situation for MR RB

  11. Chief Nalubamba should be ashamed of himself…how do you speak something that is not representative of people’s choice.Doesnt he know that the Post is a business entity always looking forward to have their paper sell.Today you can try to impress them tomorrow they will embarass you and make their paper sell..

  12. These chiefs are lunnies, they fold in their tails when a government official visits them but when the opposition visits them they give different stories. What should be borne in mind is that these guys do not represent the opinions of their subjects because even when time for voting comes its one-man one-vote. Going by this, it should be noted that the chiefs opinion is his alone.

  13. Don’t mind what Chief Macha has said vis-a-vis Chief Nalumba’s sentiments. The truth still remains that Rupiah Banda will never win in Southern Province whether some chiefs in the area like it or not. Chief Nalubamba, like many people in Zambia, is disillusioned with Rupiah Banda’s way of governing. LPM made a grave mistake of appointing Rupiah Banda in the name of pleasing Eastern Province chiefs. The country is now in a big mess.

  14. #22, Blue Blood, The voting pattern in Southern Province has nothing to do with RB’s performance. Southern Prpvince never voted for Mwanawasa (nor even Kaunda when the ANC was still alive). So, there is nothing new there. The good thing is that the government is still working in Southern Province, building roads and trying to improve the people’s lives there. That is what is important. The People of Southern Province will make up there own minds who to vote for when elections come. It is a free country. But it is necessary to accept and respect the result when the people have decided. That is the mark of a democrat.By all means, please continue to criticise. Criticism is also important.

  15. Leave Chief Nalubamba alone, he has expressed his disgust for this hopeless government. As for chief Macha he speaks under the influence of the brown envelope.

  16. Whatever the case RB is not a factor in Southern Province. Chiefs should be allowed to express themselves whenever they feel somthing has gone wrong. Last week some Lamba Chief on Copperbelt told Namulambe that he had some unfinished business with RB on unfulfilled promises during lasy year’s presidentail elections. ON Chief Macha o have not followed his CV but urely Bright Nalubamba is well informed person. Its wrong for a Chief to condemn his fellow chied the way Macha did. The wise thing should have bin take the bribe and keep quiete. What was that PS doing at the palace? There is more to it. The best the PS could have done is going to Namwala and hold an audiance with the Bright Nalubamba. No wonder Mukuni was to be declared Paramount near VIC FALLS an d I support him.

  17. Big ups Chief Nalumamba, you are sensible and not a bootlicker and are forward thinking.Down with Chiefs who encourage this demon government to go on with non-perfomance and corruption.

  18. when i think of southern province .i think of the livingstone zimba road.its a night mare and when i hear chief macha praising RB ,i put my hands on my shoulders and walk away .a chief rules by traditions of the people and not thru training s/or seminals .nalubamba is very correct MMD has no support in SP ,we all know that .and yes we also tknow that SP has a tendency to support there tribes mate .however this time there support has gone to the PACT.so the divide and rule oiling game will be at its highest in SP .thank you the pact ,the southern vote will no longer be misplaced like always .its a final nail into the MMD coffin .viva nalulamba ur are clean.and for macha we leave you to HH ,he will sort u out

  19. He spoke in his indidual capacity. What is this coward called Chief Macha saying? Do you need to consult anyone to speak about a matter in an individual capacity? Embacility of the level.

  20. Was this Chief nalubamba once Chairperson of ZCF during KK era? I respected him then but these days I am convinced that my respect was misplaced. Too noisy, wants to be heard even when he blurts rubbish. Even the Post whom he tried to impress has no regard for him.

From the stories covered by LT in the past one can tell that Chief Macha is above board and has behaved honourable. this hypocrite chief Nalubamba is not chief Macha’s spokesman.

  22. Chief Nalubamba has spoken his mind he has a wright to do so; I for one was dissapointed . of how RB ,when he came into power.; he straight went to pick all the corrupt men , some of them who just ran away on their own from ;Mwanawasa rule and those who were removed from that time, I did know that we are in a big problem as anation now; see what is happening I WOULD ASK SAKI AND BROTHER AKA TO SAY SOMETHING ABOUT .;RB,s RULE
