Share

Former First lady, Maureen Mwanawasa, says she is not at loggerheads with the government or President Rupiah Banda.

Mrs. Mwanawasa told ZNBC news in an interview in Lusaka on Wednesday that President Banda and herself are not enemies.

The former first lady said she is grateful for the support the government has given to her family since the death of her husband almost a year ago.

Mrs. Mwanawasa said it is wrong for people to assume that she does not get along with the government or President Banda.

The country will this month remember late President Levy Mwanawasa who died in on August 19 and was buried on September 3, last year.

Since her husband died, Mrs. Mwanawasa has commented on a number of national issues.

Her views have been published, mostly by the private media.

  1. We will surely join you in rembering our late Dear Levy. Those who aew assuming that you are not getting along with RB and his GRZ are just mere speculators. Dont worry about get on with your life mama Maureen. By the way how is Matolo?

  2. Am sure the government iz obliged to “support” the late Mwanawasa’z family iz by law. So Maureen doezn’t have to be in good or bad books withe government…

  3. It apays to be in gud books with the Powers Be. Look at what is happening to uncle George Mpombo. He is now being pursued over the vehicle he is supposed to have bought. In africa one has to treatd his feet carefully. Mwena Nzo Mama Maureen.

  4. She misses the publicity there is no more Maureen Mwanawasa fimo fimo, Thandi Banda is running the show now so she wants her voice to be heard.

  5. #10, Listening to Teta can make you mad. Isn’t he the same person who was busy singing praises for her before LPM died? Teta and Mulongoti are two very useless chaps who should never be listened to. They speak without using their heads – They are their masters voice! Wawawawawa and wawawa that is Teta and Mulongoti.

  6. MAMA LEVY you should also extend your praises to all Zambians who really helped without thinking of a gift back .MMD is not helping instead you are intitled moreover RB is a beneficially so he should be thanking you

  7. Article really doesn’t make any sense at all, can someone pliz tell Maureen to just shut the hell up. We are so tired of these dirt politicians

  8. Probably I was in a slumber, is there anyone here who can help me with what Levy did apart from hound FTJ? Any developmental issues in terms of the economy, education, health sector, standard of living, export sector or anything to deal with human endeavors, or even job creation. Please, can someone remind me. I want to be part of the celebration for his life. I missed the part were he worked hard on the development of the nation but saw more of family tree growing the creation of the expensive Task Force which has brought in, how much again?

  9. i agree with #16. levi is the reason many of us left zambia in the 1st place. we never saw anything he provided. so yes, i suppose i need to be reminded what the celebrating is all about.

  10. It is always good to be grateful.

The Bemba people say: “uwushitasha mwana wa ndoshi” meaning “he that is ungrateful is an offspring of the wizard”.

  11. Dont forget that your husband died a sad man. The very people you are working with now contributed to his death because of incompetence. He was veep and Minister in many ministries. They over worked him. Evidence is very clear today. They are still INCOMPETENT

  12. Iwe 16 and 17 – I have equally been surprised about what has been said about Levy P Mwanawasa since his passing. I also left Zedi during his reign as there was nothing happening for the common man like me.
What surprises me is the so-called “Mwanawasa’s legacy” from empty tins in our country.
This man was cabbage and unfortunately he died as such and his family is just reaping were they did not sow.

  13. On “Since her husband died, Mrs. Mwanawasa has commented on a number of national issues. Her views have been published, mostly by the private media“. Why are her views being mostly published by GRZ media? Is it to try and show that dead President first lady, since Mr LP Mwanawasa is still President upto his mandate ends in 2011, Mrs Mwanawasa Maureen is in support of President RB Banda’s way of ruling Zambia? Impressive that Zambia has two first ladies, hence to vocal-ness we as Zambians are witnessing from both.

For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

  14. On “… [dead President] First lady, Maureen Mwanawasa, says she is not at loggerheads with the government or President Rupiah Banda. Mrs. Mwanawasa told ZNBC news in an interview in Lusaka on Wednesday that President Banda and herself are not enemies.“, this is good for no one should be termed an enemy just because you have an opposing view to that person’s perspective.

Anyhow, since Mrs M. Mwanawasa must have played a part in appointing then Vice President RB Banda, how can he bite the finger that feed him?

  15. Following Anyhow, since Mrs M. Mwanawasa must have played a part in appointing then Vice President RB Banda, how can he bite the finger that feed him? Whatever the case, what someone said, “birds of the same feathers flock together“, seems to be working for both now Mr President RB Banda and [dead President] first lady Mrs Maureen Mwanawasa.

Even the Holy Scriptures record “3 ¶ Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” And so, there is no need to panic but let us just look to 2011 elections for truth.

  16. The country will this month remember late President Levy Mwanawasa who died in on August 19. Why will the country remember Levy? What is there to remember about this man?
    1. I will remember Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe, Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula, for the freedom they brought to Zambia.
    2. I will remember the National Team that perished in Gabon for the glory they brought to Zambia in Soccer.
    3. I will remember Michael Michael Jackson for Thriller and Bad.
    4. My father for giving me life and bringing on this earth and raising a humble person that I am.
    5. Most of all my LORD JESUS CHRIST for giving me salvation and dying for my sins which no one can do for me.

  17. Maureen, why have you not commented on story of the mother of all corruption? Teta indirectly implicated you. The issue is serious and will not go away. We are not interested in your relationship with Rupiah.

  18. #16, you have made me feel at peace with myself. sometimes i feel as though I am being unfair to Levy and those who miss him dearly. the only time i thought of Levy as being a true leader is when he brought those ‘silly’ accusations against Chiluba to the public, before & after that, NADA. what followed was his unconstitutional appointments (Silvia, Nevers, Dipak, Samukonga, Teta, etc), questionable privatisation of the defunct mines & ZANACO, family tree, the list is endless. The guy had a chance as a lawyer to leave a legacy by enacting a good constitution – look what he left us with! serious nonsense!!! And you want to call his rule a ‘mother-farming-legacy’? PLEASE GIVE US A BREAK. Maureen just shut up! natuma degree twa kubosha!!

  19. If Kapoko stole 2billion kwacha who stole the remaining 25billion kwacha; Zambians we must follow up this case RB must know where the rest has gone, all that money must accounted for;If I were your donnor you wouldnt see any more donnations to Zambia;

  20. Why are these politicians against the media? What happened to the so called free speach in Zambia? Teta, Mulongoti, Shikapwashya and the others will always try to pretend to be for the President in order to remain in their respective positions.

  21. Ok, let say 20 years in powers and whats there to show. I moved into my area 16 years ago, and as a boy just in front of our gate was this pot-hole..16 years people and this pot-hole is still there..now much money has got into these people’s pockets that kud have been used to mend the roads in townships of Zambia..how many lives could have been saved by providing cleaner and safe water for the majority poor zambians. Zambian’s life expectancy rate: Men 42, Women 42 yrs. So i say lets remember our fellow Zambians whom we’ve lost in the name of corruption, “petroda inclusive”..lets remember the innocent babies (the future of Zambia) who died because there was no medication as a result of theft at Ministry of Health..shame on the blinded rural guys who have claimed our right for change.

  22. When she came into state House everything about her was poor including dressing. Now she is said to have K10 billion in her account at First Alliance Bank. I guess she has a lot more. Please enjoy your stolen money ba Moleen.

  23. We shall remember Levy for the Maureen Mwanawasa Foundation, the Iron Walk Over at Unza, the expensive Task Force on Corruption with 1 conviction since it was created, the Bumper Harvests at Teka Farms, Maureens’ MBA and Doctrate, his house on stolen Unza grounds, his adoption of his former room at Unza, and above all his resting place in front of Embassy Park…I wonder whether the environmental council of Zambia was consulted over the site….

  24. # 10 I agree with you. i think she is the mother of corruption. Now just because she has been protected by Meembe because he was in their inner circle of stealing public money, she thinks she is very smart, one day the truth will come to light and everyone will know about the rot that happened in the ‘Govt of laws and not men’. One day always comes.
