Mpombo plotting against State-Shikapwasha

Share

GOVERNMENT has accused former Minister of Defence George Mpombo of being one of those allegedly holding secret meetings with some diplomats with a view to bringing down Government.

Government spokesperson Ronnie Shikapwasha said in an interview yesterday that the State is aware that Mr Mpombo is being used to destabilise Government.

“As Government, we are fully equipped with information regarding Mr Mpombo as being one of our former senior Government officials holding dark corner meetings so that people can rise against the MMD government,” Lieutenant-General Shikapwasha said.

Gen Shikapwasha, who is Minister of Information and Broadcasting, said Mr Mpombo has no interest of the nation at heart, but is out to promote his own agenda.[quote]

He advised Mr Mpombo to stop issuing comments on issues of diplomacy because he understands little or nothing about the subject.

“Mr Mpombo has never worked in a foreign mission for him to issue statements that Government must be careful with donors,” Gen Shikapwasha said.

He said Government is only safeguarding the interest of all citizens, and not to be in conflict with donors.

Gen Shikapwasha said Government is going to abide by the Geneva Convention by resolving contentious issues with diplomats accredited to Zambia amicably.

He said Government appreciates the role donors play in the economic development of the country.

“For many years now, Zambia has continued to enjoy a cordial relationship with the donor community, and it is our intention to continue with such relationships.

“It is dangerous for anyone to comment on issues which one has no knowledge of like Mr Mpombo is doing,” Gen Shikapwasha said.

Last Friday, Minister of Home Affairs Lameck Mangani said Government had uncovered a scam in which some diplomats have been holding secret meetings with some former Government officials with a view to bringing down Government.

Gen Shikapwasha said on Sunday that Government is making consultations through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ascertain if the actions of some diplomats accredited to Zambia have the blessings of their respective countries.

He said the diplomats may be recalled after consultations are concluded.

Gen Shikapwasha was reacting to a Copperbelt-based organisation’s call on Government to report some diplomats to their countries for possible disciplinary action if they continue holding alleged dark corner meetings with some former senior Government officials aimed at discrediting President Banda’s administration.

“Government wants to know if what the diplomats are doing has the blessings of their respective countries. As soon as the consultations are concluded, Zambians will see some of the diplomats going back to their countries. The consultations are a continuous process,” Lt-Gen Shikapwasha said.

  1. Well, if you have evidence that Mpombo is “holding dark corner meetings so that people can rise against the MMD government” thne charge him with treason.
    What are you waiting for?

  2. Well, if you have evidence that Mpombo is “holding dark corner meetings so that people can rise against the MMD government” then charge him with treason.
    What are you waiting for?

  3. Then arrest the man if you have evidence as you claim. The man gave you advice free of charge. And Shikaz is exposing the Govt. This man was in charge of one of the most sensitive and important ministries (Defense) and somehow, he had no training in diplomacy? This is very dangerous.

  4. Iyi i Mpombo thought he was untouchable when he was defence minister and even accused the opposition of treason for what he termed “inciting the men and women in uniform”.
He is now on the other side of the fence and is being accused of the same offence.
This is what our politicians forget when they enact laws which only suit them when in power.
Even Shikapwasha and his group will regret the NGO and media laws that they are putting in place once they are out of power.
    Time will tell.

  5. these minister are all *****s… why do they keep talking about things that are not relevant to the country…. we need more mature minded ipeople in government… what is wrong with THESE PEOPLE… all they do is argue like women at the market… we are tired of these kind of politics… can we move forward…. if mr mpombo has committed a crime then they should arrest him… they all need to just get on with their jobs…. these people forget that they are there to WORK FOR THE NATION.. not the nation working for them..

  6. You are just safe guarding you interest Shikapwasha and not us citizens what have you done for us ka lientenant. You are just chewing the donors money.
Yes we have enjoyed cordial relationship but ever since RB took over people have lost trust in your Goverment. Please if the donors feel that their money is not being put to good use than they have the right of say.

  7. Does Shikapwasha think he will never become a non minister at one time. Aka fwa kuli depression when the time comes.

  8. And which Govt is Mpombo & the alleged Diplomats holding dark corner meetings intending to bring down? Do we even have a Govt in place? One wonders! The country is on auto pilot, so if Mpombo & the said Diplomats are holding meetings, then it’s because they’ve seen that the country needs leadership! Shikapwasha, u’re well known for venting out in issues that are so parallel to actual causes or indeed matters of importance. Many are the times when you’ve spoken with a tongue in a hurry to cause anarchy. Remember your blatant statement against the catholics? Do not even claim to have information which in actual sense does not even exist. If you do, move in and arrest Mpombo! Stop wasting media space if you’ve no material to speak about.

  9. No 10 in addition to that, it seems he is busy taking hallucinogens. This MMD led government is filled with people who can’t differentiate between party issues and those of government. Evrybody behaves like a party cadre including the big boss himself. I still repeat what I said before, ‘MMD was swallowed by UNIP, when Rupiah took over.’

  10. This is a joke right,& where is the Tourist in all this? Govt is presenting a budget this Friday & we will all see how donor dependency this country is.Govt has no moral right to talk about sovereinity when we actually depend on foreigners for budget support which sometimes go as far as 50% of our budget

  11. It’s not the guy’s fault that there was a power outage just as the foreign diplomat walked over to his corner table and asked to buy him a beer. The poor foreigner spent all his time complaining about his own leaders in Europe and the crises they face from the far right extremists. Now look what you’ve done Mister Diplomat. “You done caused a riot!”

  12. If this is the same George Mpombo that last saturday featured on a New York based Blogtalk Radio show hosted on Mwape (dot) com serving as a Diaspora Voice for thousands, then i have doubt for GRZ allegation.I have played the the Blogtalk radio show freely accessible on Mwape (dot) com. Smart Panellists squized him and the poor man dropped down all his daftness. On all issues he tumbled without logic and mature vocabulary. If Donors can condone Mpombo, then Diplomacy has lost its standard.Listening to Mpombo cleared my doubts that Mwanawasa put him at MoD as a dammie because of Mwisho mwisho bonds for his safety.

  13. There is just to much untruths coming from the GRZ leaders. The accusation against Mpombo plotting to bring own the Govt of day raises serious concern. Am sure if all the accusations were true, Uncle George could be behind bars being tortured. Its Shikapwasha cousing alarm to the nation and should have his mouth sealed once and for all. There is nothing wrong for a straight forward thinking Citizen in critising GRZ innthe way its handling matters and its uncalled for Ronnie to state that Mpombo has little understanding of diplomacy coz he has never served in a foreign mission. HOw come Pande who has never been a diplomat was appointed Minister. Its lack of common sense on the part of Ronnie. I hope these MMD leaders will not lead this country to a failed state. Seem to be in reverse gear.

  14. SHIKAPWASHA, AS A GENERAL YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT PLOTTING AGAINST THE GOVT IS A TREASONABLE OFFENCE SO IF YOU HAVE EVIDENCE THAT THIS MAN WITH AN ANIMAL,S NAME IS PLOTTING AGAINST THE GOVT, JUST TAKE THE HELL OUT OF HIM TO COURT AND PROVE HIM. DONT WASTE OUR TIME WE WANT ACTION. IF HE WANTS TO DESTABILISE THE NATION USE THE COURTS OF LAW OR MAYBE NAKWENA MULETINA ATI ABANTU BAKAMBA UKUCHITA HONKING NA WHISTLELING.

  15. BA LUSAKA TIMES, PLZ AM NOT IN NIGERIA OR AM NOT NIGERIAN. PUT A ZAMBIAN FLAG ON MY BOX, AM PROUDLY ZAMBIAN NANGULINE IFINTU FYABAFYE IFYAPENAPENA PA ZED BUT I KNOW ONE DAY WE SHALL ALL REJOICE FOR MOTHER ZAMBIA.PLZ MUBIKEPO ZAMBIAN FLAG.

  16. when you breathe life into figments of your suspicious imagination, you wont realise how much of a droll you will seem when you start spewing out your paranoid BS.
This is whats happening in this case a deranged govt has it’s make believe BS oozing out and they want all to live by it, H*ll no

  17. There goes this man with a big nose like he has biten a flog . This ***** is ever silly, i knew him from the army.

  18. What a bunch of losers these guys are. To them people who wish to participate in matters that affect the nation are enemies.

  19. When Mpombo resigned from government he clearly stated that he was going to concentrate on planting trees in his Kafulafuta constituency so as to to improve the environment. Going by his name, the bush would seem his more familiar habitat. So now, who exactly has bewitched this antelope?

  20. Zambia needs to keep tabs on MMD coz they are the Biggest threat to our Independence. We the youth of the motherland, both in Zambia and the diaspora need to keep a watchful eye on these recycled politicians of MMD. We need to be wary of the ever diminishing security stand point of RB and his fellow monkeys before Zambia falls  worse than Zimbabwe. Please be warned that this shall happen if the youth of Zambia do not stand guard. What we have in Zambia at this juncture is 21st century colonialism. I am not one that that take sides, I’m neither UPND, MMD, UNIP nor any other ‘so called’ Political party ( more like ‘grand corruptors’). Mother Zambia is on a reckless downhill path, everyone including the Armed Services (no Coup please)  has failed us, education has failed us,…

  21. Any government that can run scared of meetings between Mpombo and any diplomat is surely not worth being in power. And talking about Shikapwasha, what diplomacy does he himself know to qualify talking about the subject? The man has never ever seen the inside of a university and the only diplomacy he knows is taught to him by a Grade 2 voodoo doodoo from the last millenia called Mwaanga.

  22. health sector has failed us. When will zambians finally awaken ? When shall we realized that we are being duped ?  The colonial days are over and no development has been undertaken at a grand scale. Even the so called Malls, housing developments, city center etc….. are such a mockery. Something as easy as trash pickup ( basic necessity) of urban areas is not availble. As for the fire department  F.Y.I ( the worst in the world), we shall never be industrialised due to the loosers. For god’s sake atleast, let their be Health system we can depend on. Zambians die like chickens sickened by Avian Flu. PLEASE BA ZAMBIA ! WAKE UP, QUIT BEING SO DOCILE !

  23. This government of Kanitundila is running scared real big time. It will not be long before it starts aresting people on ficticious charges, this accidental president’s days are numbered, this country cannot be run from a miopic tribalistic line comprising appeasement of silly tribal chieves and alms to truant and unintelligent cadres like Katele, Lungwangwa, Kaingu and Mulongoti. It takes bollocks of steal which is a lot more than what Kanitundila was ever able to accomplish in all his useless 70+ years. Watch the govt collapese around this I D I O T of theirs like Chiluba’s 3rd term excrement did around him. Mark my word!

  24. Inside of one week, this is what Shikapwasha had to say, I swear the man is alzheimers, he truly has zero length of memory ” (1) “Chief government spokesperson, Ronnie Shikapwasha, has accused some media institutions of trying to disturb relations between the government and diplomats accredited to Zambia.” (2) The Chief Government Spokesman Rev. Shikapwasha has accused former Minister of Defence George Mpombo of being one of those allegedly holding secret meetings with some diplomats with a view to bringing down Government.”

  25. Mpombo needs to be discprined as a party bcoz he is goin too far, anyway Ba George ths tim we are again winning come 2011 u be jst poppin lik ur poppin to day an eventually u no longer be MP and go back to povert were u belon from where th late found u, His excellency RB we are behind u an we shall not allow ths bloggers from LT to indimidate us after all there all PF but our ourselves we know were our votes come from,Rural-Urban Vote Patern.

  26. The MMD has a good policy for farmers in rural areas and thts why there have never failed us as a party in terms of votes.

  27. # 33 Chiengi Rep, I’m not sure whether you are in Zed or somewhere birds fly backwards!!!! You are such an @s hole!!!

  28. We know u pipo from LT bloggers u dont even have voters card so ur nt our threat when u tak abt PF,bcoz even those majority kaponyas u have as ur members there dnt hav voters card.

  29. # 34 What can a tonga bull talk abt MMD all u know is UPND Tribalist zeeeeeeeeeep ur Bull mouth, coz MMD has never projected ur votes.

  30. Emwe Ba tonga u dnt even deserve to comment abt politics bcoz u arleady hav th party in ur mind despite someone with a good manifesto all u know is UPND.

  31. # 34 i feel pity for sata bcoz th moment there announce tht sata will head th pact in 2011 tht will be th desentagration of th PACT.

  32. Is it a crime, or treason as most put it, to discuss ones dissatifaction with an incumbent government with foreign diplomats to solicit their financial support. Or even to speak to foreign journalists? Are we in Iran or North Korea? As long as Mpombo is not divulging secret state information, and is not planning any unlawful means of unseating the government, he is free to have as many secret meetings as he see’s fit. Lets not kid ourselves. no one, has ever taken over leadership of zambia without foreign help or blessing. That does not make it right, but it is a reality. They are very powerful stakeholders, whose expectations need to be well managed by any incumbent government. Alternatively we could attain economic independence and make our own decisions. He who pays the piper…

  33. # 37 Chiengi, You are such a fool!!! What development has MMD brought apart from abject poverty in Zambia???? MMD you support is a batch of i d i o t s!!! Tell me what MMD govt has achieved apart from being a perpetual beggar from donors!!! They can’t even feed the the nation.

  34. CHIENGI REP, you sound so primitive. I dont think a civilised human being would sound so tribalistic. Some of us are tribal blind, by the way i am not a tonga

  35. Any body with half a brain knows that in most embassies there are spies or intelligence officers. Simillarly i would expect that we have an idea who these are and we keep an eye on them (covertly). If our intelligence agents tell us that Mpombo is planning something unlawful, does it make sense for Shikapwasha to tell the whole world what intellgence we have? Why not gather evidence, present it to head of mission, register complaint with that countries foreign office and request that diplomat be recallled? Why make it public????? I am very puzzled, is this man a real General?

  36. Every time this monkey opens his mouth, expect all kinds of rubbish. However this is a true reflection of RB’s Government. This has been the worst administration ever. I never thought we would come to this but it seems we are going backwards for real!

  37. This is how Goverments that are out of touch with realaity start fighting with shadows and destroy a country. It is niether diplomats, churches nor mpompo. It is the pipo of Zambia them selves that are fed up with the rot. RBs GRZ is crumbling. I think the white wash of FJTs case were a known plunderer was accompanying RB on trips and FJTs reckless statments about his $8M and that when oil a car finishes, you just put more and not harrass him. This was a big miscalculation on RBs part that will cost him dearly. RB and his inner circle think Zambians are dull. He is in shock, and will be in more shock.

  38. Incarcerate Mpombo before he misleads the . Mpombo is not the best guy to be condemning his MMD friends. Zambians are too forgetful. Only a few months ago this is the same buffoon was seriously making silly statements against the opposition. its nice that he is out in the cold like the rest of us. His gimmick is “Ukufilila munsenga”. Lets us be careful with this twit. He is not genuine.

  39. How can one insult the hand that feeds him. Everyone knows that Zambia is nothing without the diplomats and the money they give. Become self reliant first then only can you refuse to listen to the person that feeds you.

  40. My friend Simon# 39 Mpombo he is a coward he should have fought th battle when he was in govt bcoz it hard for me to believe mpompo may be its true tht he was bitter tht he was nt offered th position of VP sorry ba mpombo ur mbululu is late.

  41. nonsense from a headless chicken.
arrest him and the people who are involved if you have evidence as you claim.
if you fail, then it just proves me right– you are a headless chicken being led by an even bigger headless chicken

  42. This is all about Chiluba….If these diplomatic people’s country have meetings to donate money to Zed. They are smiling. However, when it comes to Kafupi’s case they come out with all types of theories, bans, PR stunts. Shikapwasha forgets he is meant to be the minister of information for Zambia and RB. Not Chiluba’s agenda and issues. Just because people comment on the appeal case does not mean they hate the govt. Shikapwasha, Mangani etc has been bootlicking Kafupi’s case so much that their diplomatic skills are messed up. RB needs to stand up as a leader and stop all this nonense. RB should make it clear he doesn’t want his PR to be based on Kafupi’s issues….

  43. Coward boys! Shikapwasha I thought you were a general but now I have just known that you are a real coward. Are you telling us that all the people that are talking against this MMD government are plotting against the government? Please be really you are supposed to be a leader and stop alarming the nation over your hopeless comments. ala!

  44. #47 Speechless its pipo lik u tht think that we cant develop without ths so called Dead Aid attached with conditions we dont giv th hell if only th current leadership of His Excellency cn be of that of Fidel an do some bit of Sacrifitual one of them could be do away with Deputy Ministers,Deputy PS, and those emoluments go to sectors lik Health, Education etc But i will never bow down to ths Westerners there are Bull Sh**t.

  45. 49 to refuse to be part of an organisation because you do not agree with them is not cowardice, its called principles. Very few Ministers in Zambia would resign their position on a matter of principle – they are led by their greed. Some are calling for Mpombo to be arrested, but for what?? What happened to freedom of speech? Does this mean you condone all these undemocratic actions from your governement?

  46. #54 iZambia is a country full of rich natural resources. Zambia was independent in 1964 considered one of the richest countries in Africa. MMD ruled 20 years you have seen the careless mismanaging of assets. In certain cases selling industries that do not have to be sold without transparancy. Do not blame other countries for your goverment failures. They are doing you a favor even helping out on the health and education sector. Countries like Korea and Malaysia used to be poorer than Zambia. Sweep your house first before you start criticisizing people who even lend you tools to do it. Where are your tools? oh I think your MMD goverment have sold them to the lowest bidder. Thus the dependency theory kicks into action.

  47. Ba mbombo is right we must be careful how we tret the donors , infact on friday we will be asking for money from them

  48. Mpombo is using cheap psychology and is just being used by the POST. Naturally the guys still have a some bone to chew with RB.

  49. This one sided reporting by LT is not helpful. Is LT a parrot of the MMD and its government?
Mr Rev Shikapwasha has tended to raise more questions than answers. Do Zambian ministers have advisors? Apparently they can bark anything sometimes very senseless talk. It is true Zambia is in the doldrums.

  50. If anything happens to Mpombo, the people of this country should direct all their guns, including kalilozez, at Ronnie Shikapwasha and Mike Mulongoti. Only last week, Mulongoti warned Mpombo that he was tempting fate, today, Shikapwasha is blanketing him with treason. We can all see where this is leading, if Mpombo dies, Shikapwasha you will see. This time, unlike when you ran away in your underpants on the Solo coup night, we shall wire you in broad day light. If I were you, I will leave Mpombo alone because because i he dies, you and Kanitundila will go the Guinea Concry President Joao Bernardo Vieira way.

  51. Shikapwasha yes there are people plotting your downfall, thye holding secret mettings, how else do you think they will unseat you thugs?people even in your cabinet are plotting your downfall, just prepare your homes for retirment, what information DOBO BAKAAMBA………..

  52. Paranoid Shupakwasha, count your days old coward soldier. MMD is on the go. No inciting needed, you guys are just corrupt and wasting the Zedian tax payers money. Whether Mpombo, hooting, Sata, HH or not people are just fed up man.

  53. Chaps get real if someone does not agree with your MMD opinion you call him a traitor and other names. One can disgaree with Wayne Rooney Shikapwasha ideas and remain a bona fide citizen of Zambia. Leave him alone please ba kabwa imwe.

  54. Cheap politics is what has killed our democracy in Zambia. Mpombo resigned on principle and bravery. Mpombo has every right to criticise governement whenever something is being done wrong by these fake politicians like Ronnie, RB you name it…etc. RB and his buddies that you are working for Zambia and not Zambia working for stupid asses like you! Everything going in Zambia is bulshit nothing coherent at all. I mean how could Ronnie accuse Mpombo of not having diplomacy on issues affecting the country? I wonder how many ministers are out there lacking this very important prerequisite to become one? I fear Zambia is in tatters from whatever perspective you may have. We are being led by *****s all for the money and chillin….Zambians please you are known to be resilient ! hang them high!!

  55. Just vote them out only this time…..Zambians MUST be smarter who they vote for. Chase these ****ers out….they have been there done that since 1964…what the hell do they want now…..you bunch of recycled *****s….we need credibility back and not cheap politics with Ronnie accusing Mpombo for not being diplomatic…? Stupid stupid….you are constantly wasting our time and money meant for developmental projects. Going late for parliamentary sessions is all you know because you don’t care at all for the masses living under a dollar a day to survive…..and don’t give ka Chiluba that $8million dollars…or else…? We the Zambians have spoken….only the truth should prevail. Freedom of speech is what we all believe in.

  56. Gen who? Please do not call him as he is embarrassing that rank. This guy is nothing, but a joke. Sadly, we are going back to UNIP tactics. Enough crap.

  57. Who had promoted Shikapwasha to a rank of ‘General’?. This Man doesnt deserve to be a ‘an LT.Gen.Maybe Sergent would have fitted him well.
