It’s Zambia Police Service that indulge in car chase-RTSA

Share

The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has distanced its traffic officers from officers who chase after motorists that abrogate traffic rules.

RTSA Spokesperson Mukela Mangolwa says RTSA officers and officers seconded to the agency understand that pursuing erring traffic motorists is likely to jeopardize the lives of members of the public and as such do not chase after motorists that contravene traffic rules.

Mr Mangolwa charged that it was officers from the Zambia Police Service that chase after motorists that contravene traffic rules.

The RTSA Spokesperson noted that it was regrettable that the police officers were chasing after motorists that abrogate traffic rules when there are systems in place that can help traffic officers to corner defiant motorist.

He told ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that RTSA has devised a transport system that enables RTSA officers to get registration numbers of vehicles as a way to corner motorists who abrogate traffic rules.

Mr Mangolwa has advised officers from the Zambia Police Service to desist from chasing motorists saying doing so puts the lives of innocent citizens at risks.

He urged them to make use of the transport system from RTSA to corner ailing motorists.

And Mr Mangolwa has disclosed that the agency has completed training officers on the use of breathalysers that enables officers to dictate the alcohol content in drunken motorists.

He said RTSA finished procuring the breathalysers and has since distributed the breathalysers to all districts in the country.

Mr Mangolwa could however not state how much was spent on the procurement of the equipments as well as monies spent on training officers on the use of the equipment.

  1. Ok Today is Friday by the way. So If my fellows cadres HONK, see Shikas’s cops and then speed off, nobody is supposed chase them right? Nice one. I will ask them to give it a try at 17:00hrs today and see how it goes.

  2. Well if you are stuck in traffic at Church road traffic lights they wont have to give chase they can actually just walk up and clamp your car!!

  3. Please dont play blame games just work togather though ba kapokola kukonda ma starter.I America if you run the corps give chase & sometimes pit you if you are not stopping

  4. The traffic police officers chase motorist (blue buses) because they always want to get something from them. I even know that traffic police officers from castle police post have a cut from the money that is normally left by bus drivers at Makeni bus stop for those ba n’wan’wazis.

  5. # 5 is that true. Shame but it’s really a shame what poverty and greed can lead you to do. If someone is running away is to chase. I think they should put soldiers to monitor for a three months period I bet you everyone would start doing the correct thing on the roads.

  6. its all lies these RTSA guys one day chased me up to the kabwe roundabount when i by passed the traffic lights at bwenjifumu road at night around 01hours so what asre the say that the dont chase drivers around it was just two weeks ago when that happened

  7. We have police cars to chase motorists? We have police cars at all??! Lats time I checked there was one open van for a riverside cop shop and you had to pay them ‘fuel’ money to do anything for you-thats if you find the van at all as it also doubles as a chililo cargo!

  8. Am sure it would be funny to see one of these High speed chases pa great east road. On the other hand……….”And Mr Mangolwa has disclosed that the agency has completed training officers on the use of breathalysers that enables officers to dictate the alcohol content in drunken motorists. He said RTSA finished procuring the breathalysers and has since distributed the breathalysers to all districts in the country.” …………So, you can actually get a DUI in Zambia today? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Progress????

  9. Do not blame the Cops, blame the motorists esp the Mini bus drivers. Why try to run away in the first place? Stop and discuss. Running away is what endangers the public.

  10. #4 sam thats true the RTSA guys are not easily bribeable or even bribeable at all. Its is comprised of diffent people in society people such as Business men and women, Zambians of all races. They just dont get any Jim and Jack. So if you are stopped by them flashing the lights or even with the siren dont even try to offer for a coke ‘bwana’ you might be getting another fine for trying to bribe a traffic officer. Which i see is a good development for the nation. And they actually do work together with Zambia police officers sometimes ZP would be the RTSA officers partner. By the way the brethalizers last time government mentioned each one was costing $20,000 USD

  11. I can supply Zambia police with breathlyzers for $60.00 each, different types, they are located in a warehouse in Lagos Nigeria at the port…

Where is govmnt buying these breathalhsers for $20,000 each when the most expensive make costs no more than £900 each and they are cheaper in bulks. Thats crazy! Where did those figures come from? Maybe these costing $20,000 can also talk and chase any drunkard trying to speed away, like some kind of robocop!
