There are no cadres being trained at Lilayi – Govt.

UPND vice president Richard Kapita (R)

The government has charged that the United Party for National Development (UPND) vice-president Richard Kapita is ignorant of the activities at Lilayi Police Training College, hence his baseless allegation that cadres are being trained there.

Home Affairs Minister Lameck Mangani said it was wrong for Mr Kapita to mislead the nation by accusing the MMD of training cadres to cause confusion during the forthcoming by-elections in Mufumbwe and Milanzi constituencies.

In an interview yesterday, Mr Mangani said it was not true that the MMD was using the college to train cadres and appealed to politicians to avoid misleading the public.

Mr Mangani said politicians should avoid raising unnecessary alarm on important institutions like police colleges and called on them to stop involving police in politics.

“I think Mr Kapita is ignorant because how can he say that cadres are being trained at Lilayi? This just shows how desperate he is, he lacks information on what goes on at Lilayi,” he said.

Meanwhile, the UPND/Patriotic Front Pact has dismissed reports that the opposition is plotting violence during the forthcoming elections but instead accused the ruling party of being behind the act.

UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma said the pact was aware that the people planning to cause confusion belonged to the ruling party and wondered why the MMD was accusing the opposition parties.

He said the pact had information about several people some of whom were already in Mufumbwe with a view of causing confusion.

And PF secretary-general Wynter Kabimba said it was saddening that the MMD was allegedly witchhunting as it had failed to provide details on the people planning to cause confusion.

Recently, MMD spokesperson Dora Siliya disclosed that the ruling party had uncovered a scam in which some opposition parties taking part in the Milanzi and Mufumbwe by-elections were recruiting cadres from Lusaka and Copperbelt to cause confusion.

  1. Charles, you must always think before you talk you will end up like sata who can not justify most of his actions

you must think always before you blog,Mangani is the one with a track record of failing to justify any of his actions,of all the investigations he has instituted none is justifiable,,,,bar the carlingtone maize scandle which is too hot for him to handle,,,even Mulongoti the motor mouth says Mangani cant justify his actions, atleast Sata cant justify MOST of his actions,RB cant justify any at all

  3. Trouble is, the Police Force (Service) in Zambia is in fact behaving like MMD cadres. Take for example, the MMD cadres threaten to gang-rape a woman. What does the Inspector General of Police say? Threatening violence is not a crime! A chap called Bwalya flashes a red card, and he is immediately arrested by the Police. Now those are double standards. As long as you are member of the MMD, you walk on the right side of the law. If you are in opposition, you are always living in fear of the police.

Maybe the police are not MMD cadres, but they sure dance to the MMD tune. How many times have we seen reports of opposition supporters beaten up by MMD cadres in the presence of police who did nothing about it?

  4. #2 RED CARD-Smoothcriminal I support You. In Zambia when you praise the MMD, they classify u a hero and u get govt., support. When you dont want to support them and you openly condemn them, you become a vilain even if you supported them last week. They will send ACC, DEC ZRA to harrass you etc. Now where is the need for multi-partism if we can not agree to disagree. Lets revert to one party system then. It seems thats what the MMD wants so as to cling on to power. The other day I met Daka Peter (minister) at manda Hill, he has gone very fat and being driven in a posh maroon Prado. Do you think he can let gop of power like that???

MMD should know that whilst they want to continue in power, we also WANT them OUT of power.
