Commerce,Trade and Industry Minister Felix Mutati has urged Zambians not to frustrate investors coming into the country

Mr. Mutati said government has worked hard to bring investors in the country warning that if frustrated investors can leave the country for other countries.

He also noted that there is need to address the bureaucracy that seems to be having a negative impact on investment.
Mr. Mutati pointed out that certain government ministries should ensure that bureaucratic tendencies that surround investment are well sorted out.

Speaking in Lusaka this morning when he met a Japanese business delegation, Mr. Mutati states that government would keep on working hard to attract more investment into the country for the benefit of the Zambians.
Mr. Mutati has since thanked Japan for choosing Zambia to explore investment opportunities in the various sectors.
He said Japanese investment would further attract other countries to invest in Zambia because of its global dominance.
Mr Mutati said government welcomes such investment because it is aimed at creating jobs for Zambians
And Japanese ambassador to Zambia Hideto Mitamura has praised Zambia’s steady progress in economic growth.
Mr. Mitamura said Japan remains committed to help Zambia to attract investment from Japan.

He has further praised Zambia for the way it managed the effects of the global economic downturn last year.

And Japanese business delegation leader George Hara said the team is in the country to help contribute to infrastructure development.
He noted that once settled, the business delegation will help the country achieve economic growth.

  1. Zambia I blessed. May God continue to favour Zambia in all matters of invesment. And also give wisdom to our leaders so that they serve Zambians instead of themselves.

  2. The Heading should be ” DONT FRUSTRATE ZAMBIANS, MUTATI TELLS INVESTORS” why do we always put outsiders first then our pipo last?

  3. No, for the first time Mutati is wrong. Investment for whose benefit? Do we see these guys involved in social responsibilities? Albeit, Nkana football team is languishing on and on. Hon Mutati is a good man but must not let himself being dragged into this MMD drench of midget thinking. We are the citizens of zambia and it all boils down to us. We pay huge taxes(pay as u ean) than DRC and Zimbabwe, fuel has gone up than these countries and there is no govt strategy to ensure investment …. trickles down to zambians. Is it the zambians who let Anglo America? Is it the Zambians who brought the lowly paying chinese? Am glad this time around you are talking about the Japanese-better. But dont through the towell on us because of your mismanagement.

  4. Mr.Mutati is one of the ‘Empty Tins’ this country has produced, together with Mr.Rupiah Banda. How does he expect a foreigner to develop Zambia, sure?.This country used to have industries like Lenco,LandRover assembly plant,Bycycle assembly,Dunlop,Mansa Batteries etc..etc,the list is endless, but after being sold, non of these Industries is there pa Zed.Mutati is good at talking, with some nice English(Just like kaChiluba),but he talks nonsense. How many times has he been to India,China to woe Investors and how many of those have set up companies in Zambia?.Lets not be blinded by these fools.

  5. By the way what happened to the Japanese investors who were supposed to build a car parts plant in North western province? Mutati had alot of praise for them.

  6. The Japanese are brilliant at road infrastructure… we have a lot to gain from them investing in Zambia.

  7. MUTATI you are one of the best RB cabinet ministers. How I wish you were a minister of Finance.

  8. Zambians can be investors too, ba ibange libi. Atleast Alabee has educated us, we have now stopped calling them ‘INFESTORS’, sorry we did not know how economies work then, We are terribly sorry as PF forgive our past collective ignorance.

  9. Mutati, I thought your priority is the Zambian people. If the population feel that we are generally getting a raw deal with some of these investors, why shouldn’t they say so? Why should you always be defending outsiders instead of your own people? Where is your allegiance? Shameful.

  10. Despite the many times that our people have reported near atrocities done by some of these so called investors, I’m yet to hear you, Mr Mutati and this government defending Zambians. Your are there to serve Zambians not foreigners. If we complain, its because there is reason to complain. Why do you consistently favour these foreigners above your own people? I say again, shame on you.

  11. There is something treasonous about this continuous quest for foreign ownership of the Zambian economy. And dangerous. All these countries can now claim that their ‘national security’ is somehow linked up to the property they own in Zambia. Before you know it, we can be drawn into a war between China and Japan, or China and India. Just like so many African countries were drawn into the war between Germany and Britain, during WWI.

There has to be leadership that sees the Zambian nation through a Zambia-centric prism.

  12. Ata se, who’s frustrating who kanshi? Mutati must live on planet Mars or something. Or maybe he’s stuck all day and night at Lusaka airport – welcoming investors?

  13. Mr Mutati, in short you are saying that the government ministries wave bureaucratic tendencies for foreign investors while in other fields it remains acceptable? NO NO NO….. If zambians go through the same procedures, why should foreign ivesters be exempted?

You’re absolutely right. Either they believe in the free markets, or they are just making sure foreign businesses have huge advantages over Zambian businesses.

Sometimes I think they are purposely stifling Zambian business and Zambian development because they might be competition for their own little schemes.
