Kalumba takes leave

Share

Dr Katele Kalumba

MMD national secretary Katele Kalumba has applied for leave of absence from his duties as national secretary of the party until his corruption cases are concluded in the courts of law.

The former minister of Finance was found guilty of corrupt activities and sentenced to five years imprisonment alongside former directors at Access Financial Services – Faustin Kabwe and Aaron Chungu and former Finance permanent secretary Stella Chibanda.

They have all appealed against conviction in the Lusaka High Court.

Dr Kalumba said in Lusaka yesterday he would not be available for duties but would maintain the highest levels of loyalty to President Rupiah Banda and the ruling party to which he remains staunchly attached.

When asked if the decision had been influenced by media reports following a guilty verdict by High Court Judge Edward Musona who was sitting as magistrate last month, Dr Kalumba said the traditional establishment in Chiengi had directed him not to issue comments to the media and handed over his phone to his wife Lumba to take over the interview.

Mrs Kalumba said her husband had not received a response from President Banda on his request and declined to comment on what he would say should the president respond that the party still needed his services.

  1. At least you some morals in you but the most honorable thing to do was to resign altogether! Fellow Zambians, I always ask myself this question, If the elite and educated of our country ,like Dr, Katele, Stella Chibanda and the like are involved in abuse, fraud and theft. What hope is there for the poor and vulnerable? What hope is there for the country’s development?

  2. Two interesting comments
1-the traditional leaders have instructed him not to issue statements to the press, but hands phone to the wife
2-Mrs Kalumba said her husband had not received a response from President Banda on his request and declined to comment on what he would say should the president respond that the party still needed his services
I was of the impression this decision was on moral grounds, alas its the president to decide, Zambia the real Africa

  3. Sorry Katele, you had a great future. i still belive you are still important in Zed politics.. but pliz clean up and start another meaningful political career. Chiluba smeared you with feacal but you can emerge depending on your conduct from now ownwards.. we know that you did all the bootlicking to RB to avoid bing convicted..You must have a clear conscious now and a free man…God be with you in your repentance and as you focus for the future REMEMBER we still love you but we hate the thieving and corruption you supported in Chiluba govt and the bootlicking of RB

  4. Does Kalete represent the traditional leaders of Chiengi in Parliament? Where is his loyalty? is it MMD or Ala-Bee.

  9. I wonder why the interest in this issue which is both a personal matter to Hon kalumba and an Internal matter to MMD. No further comment

  10. Let him resign completely from that position if MMD has to remain with some integrity. Why is MMD committing suicide in public? Anyway that is good for us in the opposition. Let such people, together with Rupiah and Chiluba completely kill the MMD as we come in (UPND/PF Pact) to power to cleanse the whole system. Again from square one. And also what traditional establishment in Chiengi is Kalumba talking about? is it that laptop thing and the hole he was hiding in for weeks when Levy came into power? Viva pact!

Point of correction,Kalumba is not an honourable man,in whatever context you try to put it.He is a convicted criminal period, there’s no honour in stealing is there

  12. # 10Red Card Iam in Zambia, Nkana East Geddes Street. No I dont use the said papers for arse sweeping but that is what they have come to

  13. When the late Mangani came up with that nonsense of Sata being criminal, the 2 toilet papers made the story their daily bread,. But now that their own KK is a convicted criminal, they being very very diplomatic in what ever they write on this convict.

  14. ‘Dr Kalumba said the traditional establishment in Chiengi had directed him not to issue comments to the media and handed over his phone to his wife Lumba to take over the interview’ they have given him conditions for the charms to work for him, and one of the conditions is not to speak to the press.

  15. On “Dr Kalumba said in Lusaka yesterday he would not be available for duties but would maintain the highest levels of loyalty to President Rupiah Banda and the ruling party to which he remains staunchly attached… Mrs Kalumba said her husband had not received a response from President Banda on his request and declined to comment on what he would say should the president respond that the party still needed his services,” I hope the convicted MMD National Secretary will do what the MMD consitution recommends as opposed to hoping to get some empathy from the mis-President of Zambia and other bootlicking MMD characters.

    Have a blessed day all.

  16. katushe yewe you are a gentleman who found himself mumatipa. you will come out clean not ba mpombo bouncing ama 10million paychek but vokovoko pu post ni daily. mpombo spokesperson and newsmaker for da toast

  17. Its interesting to note that some of our leaders have morals but of course they always have reasons for there actions. Sima morals, its time to go in the kamugodi and use the laptop effectively. Kwena mulibakali. How i wish u could help Ghana win the world cup using her Kamugodi theory:d/

I can sing those songs for you but unfortunately I was only good at singing and playing instruments. you have just remainded me those days we used to sing at st peter and paul awe twalechilisha during mass. prayer had great meaning. Kuno mu church kwati chililo

  19. Has any one seen the picture of the first lady in the psot Mamamamama Balisashila bad kind, nensapato sha Yellow

  20. Looks like his political career could have now come to an end after close to twenty years as an MP

  21. The traditional Leaders are working on the ‘laptop’, so to avoid interference with the ‘wireless network’ (charms) Kalumba has been ordered not to speak to the media.

  22. On “When asked if the decision had been influenced by media reports following a guilty verdict by High Court Judge Edward Musona who was sitting as magistrate last month, Dr Kalumba said the traditional establishment in Chiengi had directed him not to issue comments to the media and handed over his phone to his wife Lumba to take over the interview” it is interesting that traditional establishments and chiefs including headmen have active political participation in the weakening MMD Administration of GRZ. I hope individual Zambians in Luapula Province will vote wisely in the 2011 general elections for the UPND candidate who will stand as presidential candidate hopefully for the PF-UPND PACT since it is now time for northerners to support Southerners.

    Be blest all…

  23. #23 you are right my dear, but naku cililo kwabako ici mwila.#26 you know some of us are naturaly chikopo, that is why the only best thing is to seek help from those who can do & think beta.**== <):)

  24. FIVE youth’s organisations have demanded the resignation of health deputy minister Dr Solomon Musonda within 48 hours, for shooting and wounding a Serenje youth, failure to which they will hold countrywide demonstrations to force him out of office.

In a joint press statement issued in Lusaka yesterday by Operation Young Vote president Guess Nyirenda, Forum for Youth Organisations of Zambia president Beck Banda, Global Justice Zambia executive director Rodney Katongo, Development Partnership International media and strategy coordinator Richard Musauka and Youth Constitutional Coordinating Committee co-ordinator Mulenga Fube, the youths demanded the arrest of Dr Musonda.

“As the youth movement we are convinced beyond any reasonable doubt that Dr Solomon Musonda, the deputy…

  25. In as much as I support the demostration by Operation Young Vote president Guess Nyirenda, Forum for Youth Organisations of Zambia president Beck Banda, Global Justice Zambia executive director Rodney Katongo, Development Partnership International media and strategy coordinator Richard Musauka and Youth Constitutional Coordinating Committee co-ordinator Mulenga Fube, This guys are not youths. It is time that the Youth themselves are provided space to takeup leading positions in civic matters of our country. Mr. Beck Banda is not a Youth is around 40 years, Mulenga Fube is about 40 years, Geshi Nyirenda is far over 35 years. When does really one stop being a Youth. All these people are taking over space our space for us Youths.

  26. 33 Time and Time again your posting is very enlightening and I hope Real Youths like myself will take those old-aged characters masquerading as youths to task so that they can be ejected out of the NGO, i believe, positions they are currently holding illegally.

I am thus trying to organise real youths to back the candidature of UPND president HH in the 2011 presidential elections. Only then can we hope for a translational Zambian led GRZ that will finally appreciate all Zambians of diverse capabilities to be in places where they belong due to capability and capacity.

    Be blest all.

  27. Our country has gone to the dogs and hence we see no morals in our leaders. why even talk about leave – and does the party consitution allow such manoveures? does he hope to go and stnd at the convention ? and can he be supported by RBB and CO. ? Can the cadres vote for him again? has RBB made a comment like ‘i feel sorry for him’ like in the case of Dr. Musonda? Kaka can help to salvage the party with further manipulations by openly resigning so that they can find a suitbale replacement. ad the party should not allow the hand picking to filling to fill these vacant positions that are coming up time and again. But becaue of the poverty that the country politicians are embedded into – they will always compromise their positions.. look at Mutati pouring scorn and insults at Zambian????…

  28. Lets all just watch from a distance, we all know the outcome. Katele will be acquitted pamo na bana ma kwenkwe ba Regina.

  29. Be careful with those UFOs kk. Sonner than later they `ll start demanding for blood and will give you instructions to sucrifice your dear ones, failure to which you `ll have to go

  30. You criminal! you are not fit to lead. God sees Katele. You stole from poor souls, now you are paying the price. Your destination still remains CHIMBOKAILA prison my friend..

  31. Dr. Kalumba be assusred that the majority of Zambians all over our young nation are praying for you. We will not rest until all cases are proved beyond any reasonable doubt in our court of laws. As a young democracy Zambia is on the right truck to test our law procedurals in determining guilty or not guilty cases. It is with this very reason that many Zambians have allowed their fair judicial process to take precedence. As you concentrate on your personal and family reflection, we are here to assure you without malice that the majority of Zambians wish you the very best and God speed.
