“Be diplomatic”- Rb urged by AVAP

Share

President Rupiah Banda clears off a fly after receiving credentials from diplomats at State House yesterday.

The Anti Voter Apathy Project (AVAP) has described as unfortunate, republican president Rupiah Banda’s statement that co-operating partners should not blackmail the government by withholding donor support as a way of resolving challenges faced in various sectors of the economy.

And President Banda has been asked to apologize to the donor community for his undiplomatic behavior over their concerns raised on the accountability and usage of the resources they bring into the country.

AVAP executive director, Bonnie Tembo sai that national leaders should realize that Zambia is not an island and is dependant on the aid that comes into the country through donors.
He also indicated that President Banda as a national leader is expected to uphold a high level of diplomacy concerns that the donor community is bringing to the fore over the accountability of resources

Mr. Tembo said that government cannot go on to speak ill of the cooperating partners in national development even when it is clear that over half of the national budget is financed by donors for the implementation of programs every year.

He said it was surprising to note that even the vice president, George Kunda had the audacity of echoing the remarks from the president, when he is aware of the operations of government and how the nation needs to treasure cooperating partners.

Mr Tembo appealed to president Banda to apologize to the donor community and respect the cooperating partners for their contribution to national development.

He reminded him of the fact that the donor community’s aid to Zambia has never left the nation to suffer even when they accumulated serious debt which people could not pay back to the world lending bodies.

However, the Committee of Citizen’s executive director, Gregory Chifire, accused some donors of sponsoring regime change to some extent that they are bankrolling certain institutions.

Among them he cited, non governmental organization NGO, media institutes, religious organizations, political parties and some individuals.

  1. Bonnie Tembo and his one-man NGO is a well known opposition sympathiser and should desist from delving into matters unrelated to his kantemba NGO. He should be busy campaigning to urge would-be voters to register. We know his one-man NGO gets support from donors hence his apprehensions at the President’s timely warning to some blackmailers masquareding as oversight agents of the state. These are the NGOs that need auditing because no one sees their work but all we see are their directors driving the latest expensive vehicles and building plush mansions at the expense of the real beneficiaries of the donor funds. Please Bonnie, don’t sell out your country for a few pieces of silver. Shame on you! [-(

  2. #2 Why do you people pretend? The truth is Zambia is a dependant state which cannot exist without aid. Just because RB and his friends and family have stolen enough to last them a life-time does not mean all Zambians can afford to go to South Africa for treatment. Instead your average man in Luanshya or Kitwe has to go to the poorly equipped local hospital. Let us not rubbish what people say just because we do not like the person. Instead we need to be alive to the suffering that the populace of this country endures on a daily basis. Be honest!

  3. Father Bwalya is right by saying aba batata Bawelewele. He is suffering from mouth diarrhea. Chifwile chalibukusa ubwalwa:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o:o

  4. What does Bonnie Tembo know about international politics and Diplomacy other than inimically soliciting and betraying the sovereignty of his country for crams? If he failed a basic Grade nine teaching job at Matero Boys, what can he tell an educated International relations and seasoned Diplomat that RB is? What country specialist is this chap called Bornnie Tembo or which Diplomatic Corp has ever served to understand the international political doxy in Diplomacy? Donor aid does not mean you have rights to obligate international treaties, conventions and codes of diplomacy. Such are the people who if by miracle they tested power, they would forfeit the sovereignty of even their bedroom donor aid.

  5. No one knows diplomatic etiquette better than RB. Some of you NGOs think the sun shines in the digestive tract of your donors, but whether they give aid or not, they have no right whatsoever to blacmail Zambia. The money that the donors give is OUR money. They plundered our resources for over 100 years, so we are entitled to it. Aid so called is a balm for the troubled collective conscience of the former slavemasters and colonialists. When did anyone ever hear an African diplomat in UK, Netherlands or Belgium comment on matters in the country? Grow up you AVAP and media houses. Dont ask for comments from diplomats on Zambian matters, ask them about their own countries whom they represent!

  6. U cant bite the finger that feeds u.Zimbabweans are suffering coz of stinky speaches like Bandas, yet Mugabe is shopping, treated overseas.Leaders dont feel the effect, its you and me.So if there tongue is like a Bitch we need to remind them that ,Govnmnt of Zambia is not a brothel.

  7. Well well well … I do not think that ALA B or his supporters on here and elsewhere have the capacity to reflect on issues. The arguments of ALA B supporters on here spew venom attacking people’s academic credentials but never addressing the issues that people raise. They defend the indefensible and when they cannot, they will stay away instead of conceding that things can be done better. RB has fought with nearly everyone other than people that do not somehow directly benefit from his corrupt activities. A lot of dictators like RB play the sovereignty card in order to blame someone else for their problems … for a country whose budget is 50% funded by donors, sovereignty is obviously the least of their problems. If Zambians are really that proud, why accept the alms? Why not take…

  8. the argument or belief all the way and become self sufficient? RB and his so called education ( Economic History) is not a panacea for the country. So, address the issues that people raise instead of casting aspersions on people’s academic qualifications.

  9. To avoid reparation, those erstwhile colonial masters confusing mercenary parties and clueless NGOs, now calling themselves donors countries have a moral duty to observe their self commitment to keep supporting the very countries they raped, plundered, rooted and left breeding for over 200 years plus more especially after the partitioning of Africa at the Berlin Conference of 1884-1885.

  10. . It is our forefathers’ uncompensated labor, our stolen commodities without a legal tender such as copper, diamond, gold, ore, platinum, Zinc, oil and timber among many that have built those castles. They owe us and not the opposite therefore for the payback; we don’t deserve to forfeit our sovereignty as Sata a pro colonialist mercenary want. The fact that we are not asking for reparation for their crimes against humanity and our heritage does not mean we have turned servitude in the form of neo-colonialism. Like them, we are stakeholders on a new footage of forgiveness and statecraft.

  11. Truth be told anafaula akulu mpuno. End of story. I think donors are calling each other to devise a response to this apparent kerfuffle. One thing we should not expect is for it to be public and obvious. Rather it will be subtle and painful. They will do it with a smile on their face, like they have always done and the common Zambian will pay the price. That is Zambian “leadership” for you!

  12. # 12, that maybe true and that being the case, why not turn down their alms until the issue of reparations is resolved? The truth is that Zambia needs their help and RB lied because Zambia sends their Finance Minister to beg for funds every year. So, why is RB saying these things when he truly knows that he is not speaking the truth. Zambia cannot have it both ways, if they want, deny the aid and instead demand reparations … or take the aid and be transparent in its use. I know you love RB to death but even you have to accept that the donors’ request for transparency in the use of their alms is not an unreasonable request. You can argue about how they have gone about conveying the message but that is a moot point. Their concerns are real and that is what needs to be addressed.

  13. As a sovereign state Zambia respects all signed treaties and conventions on a win-win basis and not horse and rider terms. We are not a satellite state of any international political entity rich or poor. If anything, Zambia’s relationship with preponderant powers is very cordial though a few with a commitment to promote their queer culture on society are contravening the very diplomatic treaties they signed in their presented credentials.

  14. We respect and preserve the democratic space as much as the country has these pro-homosexual allies like PF whom the queer organizations have found as heir axis of promoting evil, however we will never forfeit our moral authority to vices as a christian nation we disdain. and deny that spirit of preservation they hope to supplant in our society. They can ask the UN for a no-man’s land to partion a piece as a gay land where they should dump Sata to rule some gays.

  15. Zambia belongs to Jesus and will never subscribe to the sin of homosexuality for the sake of aid if such is the catch. In a multilateralist world where there are not constraints to stay and operate only in give power block as it were during the cold war, we will realize the gains of sovereignty in decision making and bilateral support. We have resources which are on Global demand to use in our pursuit of nation statehood.

  16. Wisi Boyi,

You may not be a student of Political economy of nations but hear me right here that “Africa for long has been pressing for reparation at the US, Commonwealth, G7 or G20. Records are there for any active African to know this. It has been mutually agreed that those who rooted Africa whom Sata as a mercenary against Africa and supported blindly for continuity of their hegemonic imperial misrule would stand with Africa and keep supporting her out of the many troughs they left put her in. We forgiven each other of the past and opted to soldier on as long as they keep coming with their aid instead of reparation.

  17. This useless RB is so useless indeed. Ukukalipila abene ba ndalama ati why have you stoped giving us money to steal?? Mhhh ala kwena RB is so desperate. Rupiah is feeling the heat as he has no money to give cadres in the bye lections. He is now giving roten maize to villagers who have fresh maize.
    Hehe …ba RB basebana.
Please donors release money only for those projects which are authentic and valid. Keep the money in your accounts dont give these thieves. They are now crying like babys, hehe ..haha..hoho RB and MDD thiefs are so funny . You have given the all coper to chinese and you dont want to tax them , now we will see where you will be geting money to steal as donors will stop giving you. Useless creatures…:o:o:o

  18. as much as i may agree with what RB was saying or trying to say the fact is he went out of line and that has nothing to do with SATA or HH or the degrees he has coz as a leader u shud mind the way u say some issues.there is nothing to support rb’s outbursts coz the donors are simply asking for accountability but it’s strange to hear you pipo talking degrees, homosexuals and castles, i mean these pipo in mmd are stealing your money and you are busy supporting the degree of RB.PLIZ GET REAL

  19. Ba Senior Citizen you sound like a reasonably educated person. Unfortunately you always misuse your knowledge. We cannot keep going back 100 years everytime we are caught with our snouts in trough, stealing money meant for hospitals. Your reasoning is that it is alright for Shrek and his family and friends to line their pockets because this money is ours anyway. Surely if you sincerely believe that the donors are only paying back what they stole, then we should make sure it is used properly. MMD MPs, like Lucy Changwe, have come to symbolise the rot at the heart of our nation. They are busy acquiring wealth at the expense of those who voted for them. It is sad to see educated people behave this way.

  20. RB is the worst leader this Country has ever seen. He does not think before he opens his mouth and does not listen to his advisors. He is such a disgrace to this nation in short he does not think there is somthting wrong with his brain

  21. now you tell me the behaviour of RB and that of President Robert Mugabe’s ZANU-PF government.:-?:-?Thats how it stated. :((:((

  22. Now that RB has become rich compared to how he was at the farm, he can open his BEAK and say anything without shame 2 donars who have provided alot of support so far such as roads, schools, clinics and medicines etc to Zambia. Iwe mwana waimbwa RB do u expect donars to keep quiet and watch yo government of thieves and dogs steal in broad day light. U are very stupid chimudala iwe.

  23. Senior Citizen:
Your arguments & comments above sound reasonably articulate & convincing. As such, I totally agree with you a 100%.

  24. Senior citizen dude, all that talk of political science this and sovereignty that, its all just words dude. Those are the same speeches bene Mugabe made, excellent case study, but do we want to learn from that? With dudes like u and RB at the helm? I think not. U think the donor community will be negatively affected wen they decide to suspend aid? It all comes down to meals on an ordinary person’s table. Until we are able to stand on our own feet as a country, which is not any time this century, we need these people. My little argument may seem shallow compared to your big debate-like words but i skim the ordinary citizen wud surely understand where am coming from.

  25. number 5 you seem to be well informed but the way u relate things is wrong, there alot more educated and well experienced people in diplomatic duties but that can never make them good leaders like. Chiluba was better than rupi but chiluba was a grade 4, proffessor lungwangwa very educated but failed to run ministry of education and the worst for that matter….put yo facts ryt dnt be cadre.
