Nkana failed to impress in their fourth visit to Lusaka today when they lost 3-0 away to Red Arrows in a one-sided match played at Nkoloma stadium.
Nkana have now lost twice and recorded the same number of draws in four visits to the Capital since they were promoted back to the Super Division this season.
If Nkana’s form after the mid-season break continues in this vain, they will soon find themselves battling relegation and playing to empty galleries on their travels that have so far continued to be the biggest draw in the league despite the poor quality of football the 11-time league champions continue to churn out.
Today, Nkana were outplayed and outgunned thanks mostly to the boot of one Dube Phiri who scored a brace in a space of 63 minutes to top score on 11 goals this season and tormented the visitors defence during the opening 77 minutes he was on the field.
Furthermore, Nkana slipped out of the top eight and are now sixth from bottom in 11th place and with no league win since May 29 when they defeated Kabwe Warriors 2-0 in Kitwe.
Since then, Nkana have draw one and lost their subsequent two matches including today’s to put pressure on the interim coaching pair of Fedelis “Josimar’ Chungu and Fred “Schemer” Siame who were put in charge after the sudden resignation of Benjamin “Kawilo” Chilongo late last month.
Meanwhile, Phiri was on target for Arrows with two easy goals in the 20th and 62nd minutes.
His first goal, Phiri slotted in a close-range shot from a downward header supplied by Stanley Nshimbi with defender Thumelo Chibwe sandwiched between the two Arrows players.
His second, this one against the run of play, saw him steal the ball from Chibwe on the egde of the six-yard box after a poor clearance to make it 2-0.
Arrows completed their rout through a speculative long range shot from Jimmy Njovu fired in from outside the area.
Elsewhere in the Super Division today, Forest Rangers won their first league match of the season after beating hosts Lusaka Dynamos 3-1 at Queensmead stadium.
Rodrick Kabwe, Mala Besa and Kameta Mutambo were on target in the 30th, 42nd and 60th minutes respectively for Forest to give the Dola Hill side its first win in 2010.
Patson Kaimana scored Dynamos lone goal in the 49th minute.
Green Buffaloes beat Roan United 1-0 through an 8th minute John Musukwa goal while National Assembly defeated their landlords’ City of Lusaka by the same margin at Woodlands stadium courtesy of a goal from Mundia Makokwa.
