Sata tells off HH…age is not a factor

Share

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) leader Michael Sata yesterday launched a scathing attack on pact partner, United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema for attempting to diminish his chances to run for the Republican presidency on account of his age.

But UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma, who ducked questions on the attack and tried hard to downplay it, only said the pact would pick its presidential candidate after some electoral guidelines had been concluded.

In an unprecedented and shocking stance since the two parties agreed to work together last year, Mr Sata said he was by far the better candidate.

He said age was not a factor for the Republican presidency considering that some of the best presidents Africa had produced were much older than Mr Hichilema.

Mr Sata cited Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade, South Africa’s Jacob Zuma, and post-apartheid South African icon Nelson Mandela as some of the leaders who had performed beyond their age limitations.

He said this during a live radio programme on Hot FM, called the Hot Seat, where he explained that even in the absence of the ‘rebel’ Members of Parliament, PF still emerged as a stronger force than UPND.

Mr Hichilema had told supporters at Lusaka International Airport on arrival from the United States of America (US) in May that many developed and developing countries had shifted from the practice of voting for old leaders.

He cited the example of Tanzania, Russia, United Kingdom and the US, which he said had voted into office younger and intelligent leaders aged between 40 and 50 years.

But Mr Sata said he had never gone round the country to speak ill of Mr Hichilema and dismissed allegations that the PF was treating UPND as a small party in the pact formed last year in which it was agreed that they would field one candidate for the national presidency.

He said accusations that PF was treating the UPND as a junior party were inaccurate but insisted that PF was far much bigger than UPND.

He said Mr Hichilema did not show respect for him as a partner in the pact when he boasted that he was more suitable for the top post because of his younger age.

Mr Sata said PF was strong in Luena Constituency but it had decided to allow UPND to contest the seat on behalf of the pact as a way of showing respect to the UPND.

He, however, said the UPND leaders were holding meetings on the Copperbelt to attack the PF.
He said there had been statements from some UPND senior members welcoming the proposed pact with the MMD which was multiplying the confusion and reducing the credibility of the pact.

On the collapse of the agreement in Chadiza where both the PF and UPND had contested a ward by-election against the provisions of the agreement, Mr Sata said that had demonstrated the strength of PF in Eastern Province, an area that was widely viewed as a no-go area for PF.

And the UPND spokesperson could not give categorical answers to questions on Mr Sata’s attacks on his pact partner.

  1. Age in deed is not a factor as both Sata and HH are not too old to lead Zambia. The PACT should never publicly criticize each other, they should have a forum to address any differences. Junior officers in each party must not attack senior leaders. The PACT can and must win in 2011. Divided, they will give the MMD a crude chance to rig and win. The MMD is not an altenative to he PACT but heyond the PACT there is no decent Opposition that can Win. APC, Heritage, UNIP all are fossils.

  2. What the Fack??? After i have just praised the PACT?? I think i will stop commenting until i see a sense of direction with this pact thing. As of now there is no leader and no direction. Sata & HH, when you were forming the Pact, did you discuss the leadership aspect or you went into this thing ati fikaisolva?? Awe sure.

  3. Wapya munzi. What is this now Oh? Oh Godo almighty save us Oh!!! Was there ever a pact in the first place imwe bantu ba Mulungu?

  4. ba LT why wenye so? Was that a scathing attack surely? You are just trying to bring enemity and subsequently confusion between the two leaders, which wont work because our minds made up about who we are voting for next year.

  5. ba LT why wenye so? Was that a scathing attack surely? You are just trying to bring enmity and subsequently confusion between the two leaders, which wont work because our minds made up about who we are voting for next year.

  6. This is the only problem we have in africa. How do u attack ur partner like that through the press?? Now you are exposing your weakness and making the likes of Veron Mwanga, think they are vetran political analysts. If both SATA and HH take this stance then both of u are going nowhere and nobody will trust you anymore. I don’t see PF’s pride to boost about popularity because you have lamentably failed to form govt in three consective elections on your own. Also UPND must not overate themselves though u are at an advantage of partnering with either PF or MMD and form govt but that’s not the solution as the MMD is mainly composed of corrupt elements.

  7. “In an unprecedented and shocking stance since the two parties agreed to work together last year, Mr Sata said he was by far the better candidate.”

    meanwhile

““Why not be vice-president…positions are not my priority, we are concerned about the welfare of the people,” he said.

So what are you saying Mr. Sata?

  8. Sata surely being an elderly Leader you should have been the first one to call HH privately and resolve the differences within yourselves. Two wrongs never correct anything. Do not wash dirty linen in public. We what the PACT to work. VIVA PACT.

  9. This is good news indeed!!This pact thing was never going to work at all,and its good the cracks have been exposed when its early enough. The way to go is to disband and each party should go it alone. After all MMD is finished now. Both UPND and PF are capable of scooping the next election on their own if they are serious!!

  10. Bakabwa we told you that these fools’ egos are so huge that they would never let the other take the top most position. But PF phools and their Up and Down comrades in thuggery would not listen. They let their emotions run away with their minds. Mwaona manje.

  11. This is the worst day of my life.

I hereby resign from this fake PACT and shall now be an independent.

There is no hope for Zambia.

  12. What a poor politician Sata is proving to be. In his struggle to posture himself a leader he keeps comparing himself to the two distinguished African statesmen he is no match to; Professor Abdoulaye Wade and calledBaba wa Taifa Muzee Julius Kambarage Nyerere. In what ways is Sata a match to these panAfricanists? Such comparisons are only making people understand that Sata is a strait jacket charlatan unfit for anything but Afriad Membe’s Marxist utopia.

  13. Senegalese President Professor Abdoulaye Wade is no match to Michael Sata who is just a sub 2 school drop-out without leadership trail. The only equals of Sata is former Uganda dictator Dada Idi Amin.

He studied and taught law at the lycée Condorcet in France. He holds two doctorates in law and economics. As an attorney he practiced as law for many years. He was also dean of the law and economics faculty at the University of Dakar in Senegal.

  14. Owe Owe – There he goes again. Now I know why African leaders want the post of Presidency, it comes with a full package. Despite promising that We the citizens are the masters, they go into leadership to dominate us, to think for us and to decide for us – without our involvement. The Presidency is so sweet, thats the main attraction, service is secondary. Zambians lets force “OUR” dear leaders to do the right things, we employ them not to waste resources but to make the resources grow and benefit the country

  15. Julius Kambarage Nyerere was not calledBaba wa Taifa (Father of the Nation) for nothing.
Nyerere received his higher education at Makerere University in Kampala and the University of Edinburgh.
Educated school teacher that taught Biology and English
Master of Arts degree in Economics and History in 1952 at the University of Edinburgh in Britain where Sata was just a musamunda Kapaso against independent Africa.

  16. Zambians will tell who indeed among the two will behave like a leader. I urge HH not to respond to this or the PACT is doomed

  17. #13 PACT – Your comment has made me giggle but I do feel your pain. Its sad really. Worse still chi bootlicker hasnt even woken up yet to put salt on this wound. I will try to keep up blogging until he shows up then am gone, dont want his comments messing up my day.

  18. The biggest problem with the pact leaders and its followers on this blog is your failiure to accommodate other views, and the phobia of criticism. Whenever any person advises you on the pact, that person is accused of being MMD, being bought, ot whatever derogative term the pact can think of. Where are we now, back to square one, vindicating leaders like Chizyuka, who was among the first to demand that pact be consolidated at foundation, resolve or leadership disputes at inception. This advice was ignored, thus even after a year the leaders are not united. Perhaps the pact should have listned, instead of being quick to trash this advice. This pact was never consolidated at formation, it has no foundation, its weakness is its downfall.

  19. As a christian nation we can only pray without ceasing for those who are gasping for air to survive, are profusely bleeding on a ICU surrgery bed in their comatose.PF-UPND need prayers of every patriots so that their violent nature and hatred does not attempt them to fixing each other. If we don’t pray, bamambala bazapayana no tusembe pantu mashilu bekabeka.

  20. When Jesus Christ was going to heaven, he said

John; 14:1 “Do not let your hearts be distressed. Vs.1 You believe in God; Vs.2 believe also in me. 14:2 “In my Father’s house there are many mansions. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you.

On the political front, i implore all mourners never to be troubled with the implosion of this so-called pact. MMD is not only a mass party of many but also a mother of all parties in a democracy of its own bringing. There are many mansions to accommodate every patriot in MMD. Otherwise, MMD wouldn’t have been the pioneer, and custodian mother of democracy in the country.

  21. Senior Citizen #16 jus shut up ! wat do u know yoself apart from being payed by mmd to write RABISH. wat ave u done in life u useless and worthless fool ? the whole lot of u feeding yo family on mmd payroll, u are such a shameless chap ! u,a very useless, to hell with yo mmd of thieves and foolz, VIVA PF

  22. The rise and fall of Pact. The beginning I am sure was good. The end result will be disastrous. Back to square one. PF alone and Pact alone. OK. It happens, especially if hidden agendas are not being exposed early anyway

  23. Oil and water cant mix. The two come from diffrent schools of thought. Zambians should be united to tackle problems.

  24. # 23 politics of saving Zambia better,

I pray for your salvation and deliverance from fantasy. You cannot overwrite what God has lifted and blessed. Far from your myth, to his Glory i’m among the many zedians who are highly skilled professional with good Graduate school education and vocation. I’m a global market place commodity who sees no leadership in Sata except for unpatriotic rascals like consumed with utopia of more money in your pocket. I’m a realist and not idealist.

Do you have brains? Take me on issues.

  25. Having read Sata’s statement in both papers and the Post editorial comments I think it is better for UPND to leave the pact and go it alone or alternatively explore the offer to work with MMD. Mmembe and Sata have a clear agenda to use UPND as a means to go to state house. I find Mmembe’s analysis nauseating and his definition of sincerity twisted. He seems to turn a blind eye on Sata’s wrongs in his attempt to portray UPND as the insincere party. How can he go on hammering about Matambo’s statement on UPND’s popularity on the CB being equal to PF and yet ignore Sata’s lie that PF is more popular in Luena?
Yes we all know that PF was the second largest party in the last elections but is that still the case now? In my opinion I think UPND has gained a lot of ground ever since…

  26. So they are not even united.. there is an crack in the bond.. they will not win with this now.. shame.. my poor home needs a true leader….

  27. The Pact is OVER…. I have therefore instructed the FP and UNDP divorce laywers to come and sign off divorce papers. HH will take custod of UNDP ophans and so will Sata for PF ophans. As for maintanance, MMD as the sole beneficiary will pay for maintanance of the UNDP and PF orphans until they are integrated within the MMD structures.

  28. Peugeot na Benz havinophindulana

    Water and oil

    Light and darkness

Can never work together or co-mingle.

  29. The pact is dead! Get over it fellas. satan the serpent has just hit the final nail. What a political snob he is this satan!

  30. Probably we should just let this pact nonsense die so that each party is free to do what they want. I am personally sick and tired of the C.R.A.P we are getting as Zambian everyone wants to take us for a ride and its just wrong. Zambia should have maximum three political parties which would allow for intra party competition to improve and a strong and sensible party that will deliver the wishes of Zambians will emerge. this pact/coalition nonsense just won’t work. Its a waste of time and if they are not careful both UPND and PF will come out of the pact weaker.

  31. Surely the Wheels have come off , too bad PACT guys . I think there is still time to form another PACT without HH and Sata. Sata too old HH too tribal. Can new contenders or pretenders step up to the plate please. There is a vacuum.

For the PACT collapse, I blame Two organisations for putting undue pressure on the PACT

    1) MMD for singing long enough that the PACT would collapse. I guess if you tell a lie long enough, it indee does become the truth

    2) POST Newspaper For running negative stories and editorials on the PACT. Even today’s POST why did they go negative instead of Go positive like Zambia Daily Mail. Shame to Fred Mmembe, and Good luck on your quest to put SATA in statehouse.

  32. Dammit. Dammit. Dammit Dammit.

This kind of hopelessness and disappointment is what produces rebels. Or suicide bombers.

    Or worse.

  33. Senior Citizen. You call yourself senior and yet you are just an I.D.I.O.T.It just beats me that you are doing all this for gain. You must atleast be ashamed of yoursel. You dirty bootlicker. You will one day lick someones balls!

  34. The Pact is over. I have therefore instructed PF and UNDP divorce laywers to come and sign dirvoce papers. HH has been granted custod of UNDP ophans and so is Sata for PF ophans. MMD as the sole beneficiary will pay for maintanance of the both UNDP and PF ophans until they are integrated within the MMD structures.

  35. Entire Northern province Lungu chiefs endorse RB for 2011

ALL the Lungu chiefs in Northern Province have resolved to support President Banda and the MMD in next year’s general elections.Senior Chief Tafuna of the Lungu people said in a statement issued in Lusaka on Wednesday by his representative Chomba Sikazwe that President Banda has exhibited good leadership in implementing development programmes.

“All the Lungu chiefs have endorsed President Banda and the MMD for the 2011 presidential, parliamentary and local government elections,” Senior Chief Tafuna said. The traditional ruler said President Banda’s good policies, especially in the agriculture sector, have resulted in the country to record a bumper harvest this year.

  36. MMD still force to reckon with, says PF MP

KALULUSHI Patriotic Front (PF) Member of Parliament Anson Simama has said it will be difficult to dislodge the MMD from power because it is still a giant. And Mr Simama has said the PF-United Party for National Development (UPND) Pact would not form the next Government because its foundation was not defined when being formed.Mr Simama said yesterday in an interview in Kitwe that the issue of the pact had not worked in Zambia before, and, that even the current pact would not work because its direction was not spelt out from its inception. He said the pact was merely between the UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and his PF counterpart, Michael Sata.

  37. The grassroot members in the two parties were yet to appreciate the workings and ultimate goals of the pact.Mr Simama said in his area, for instance, it was difficult to point at any structure that existed for the pact activities. He said the grassroots were not familiar with the pact and its activities apart from reading about them in the media.

Some PF and UPND cadres in Kitwe said on condition of anonymity that they were concerned about the happenings in the pact because the top leadership.Meanwhile, PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba yesterday failed to categorically state whether his party was still committed to the pact amid allegations that the party was reconsidering its position on the two parties’ agreement.

  38. And the Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) advised the PF and UPND to resolve the problems that had beset the pact or announce their disbandment “as soon as possible” if they have failed to agree.

  39. PF member predicts MMD’s continued rule

FORMER Kasenengwa member of Parliament, Timothy Nyirenda has insisted that the MMD will remain in power even after 2011 because of the serious leadership crisis in UPND-PF pact.
Mr Nyirenda, who is also a Patriotic Front (PF) member, said in Chipata yesterday that there was a serious leadership crisis in the pact and it would not form government until probably after 2021 elections.
He was commenting on revelations by Mwense PF Member of Parliament, Jacob Chongo that PF and UPND have agreed to dissolve their pact and were only looking for a way to inform their followers.

  40. Having read the story in the post, i wonder why LT has chosen not to quote Sata by his actual words. They have however chosen choice words to paint a picture of their liking.
I for one thinks HH is being petty in this PACT. Recently, he went to America and on his return, he said he was more popular and the world was changing and gave examples of Britain and so forth for ushering in young presidents. Imus say its not youthfulness that saves the day or may answer the cries of many zambians out their. In any case Sata has the experience in govt and all sects of public service, his party is more popular than HH’s and has more sits in parliamnet than Up & Down party of HH. It will be more prudent for HH to let Sata start the show and help him learn. There is an MOU, and that will guide them…

  41. Mr Nyirenda said that those who believed in the pact of forming a government in next year’s elections should forget because the loose alliance would not manage to resolve its leadership wrangle.
“The issue of leadership in the pact has always been a source of concern because as far as I am concerned Mr Michael Sata and Mr Hakainde Hichilema do not trust each other and I know they have already split,” he said.
He said the current activities in the UPND-PF pact had exposed the two leaders that they could not form a government.
“I know the two opposition political party leaders can cheat people in urban areas to vote for them but not in rural areas because people believe and trust the MMD leadership unlike the urban areas,” Mr Nyirenda said.

  42. Mr Nyirenda said that he was ready to join and support the programmes of the current Government under the leadership of President Rupiah Banda.
Meanwhile, the Constituency Concerned Citizens Forum (CCCF) has cautioned political parties against entering into pacts before holding conventions.

The forum has observed that selfish people generally advocated political pacts without the vision for the country.
CCCF information and publicity chairperson Wilbroad Mutoloka said in a statement in Ndola yesterday political parties should not enter into pacts or alliances before holding conventions.

  43. The Pact is over. I have therefore instructed PF and UNDP divorce lawyers to come and sign divorce papers. HH is granted full custody of UNDP orphans, and is Sata for PF orphans. MMD as the sole beneficiary will pay for maintenance of UNDP and PF orphans until they are integrated into MMD structures.

  44. thanks for sata for speaking out loud much to the chagrin of ba kaponya mu exile. HH is full of hot airs but he will never enter state house. You guys like over rating yourselves. Are we mad to allow HH to rule with his sheepish mentality of only him

  45. Mr Mutoloka said it had been observed for a long time that these pacts were only entered into between one leader of a political party and the other, without the full support and knowledge of the general membership.
The trend, Mr Mutoloka said, had deprived many vibrant men and women from competing and vying for various political positions in areas of their choice.
“The historical background of our independence does not all reflect on winning an election based on a pact,” he said.

  46. I for one thinks its the UPND members who are selfish, and HH has failed to hold UPND together. We can see with Sata, how discplined he is with his members. We saw it with the rebel MP’s. However, if HH does not hold his party together and expects a PACT with a strong, well discplined PF, he will loose his mind. I remember Sata praised HH for the interview he made on QFM and that showed how keen and desireing to bring change through togetherness Sata portrayed. I have never heard HH praise Sata. He does praise himself all the time. His own part id crumbling the PACT and i wish he sorted out his issues inhouse and perhaps talked more about his wife and children like RB, Sata does then we will trust him to lead zambia but even then that would take him the next elections after the ones…

  47. Mwata who will vote for MMD. The PACT is not the only party. We have other choices, but not ba Mafi Mumputi Da(MMD). There is also ADD. We will think about them.

  48. Senior Citizen #27 its u who has no brains at all ! infact its a share waste ot time to exchange words with a fool like u ! u,a such a hopeless, worthless and useless chap. i dont even kno why u,r still living coz chaps like u deserve 2be D.O.G.S ! to hell with yo fooli.sh.ness ! we kno u are paid to write R.A.B.I.S.H bt wat i can u is dat go to school so that u find a decent JOB. useless chap

  49. The Pact is over. I have therefore instructed PF and UNDP divorce lawyers to come and sign divorce papers. HH is granted full custody of UNDP orphans, and is Sata for PF orphans. MMD as the sole beneficiary will pay for maintenance of UNDP and PF orphans until they are integrated into MMD structures. ..

  50. Mwata, are you in sensible employment? Coz even if you are self employed where do you find time to write all this stuff? Mind you, i bet a lot of bloggers hit the scroll button when your comments arrive. It is very boring, so just cut out the CR.AP and say what you have to say in a few paragraphs. its very irritating. Are you on MMD’s payroll??

  51. #47 & 48, i guess you share my sentments. I for one does not even read their blogs at all. These are people who contribute totalling nothing at all to the well being of zambia.

Just calm down guys, we need solutions to the crisis at hand rather than venting our anger at parasites like the two.
    Chao!

  52. What is wrong with HH saying the world is turning to Younger Leaders?? It is true. Its his way of telling voters that its okay to vote for a young leader not that he meant to say “Dont vote for Sata coz he is old”. Sata must behave in an elderly way. Should the PACT have elections he is saying people must not be afraid to vote for him. Isnt he allowed to campaign for post of PACT president??

  53. This is not the first time Sata has quoted the Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade as being old and intelligent. This is a very misleading statement, any one who is familiar with West Africa politics will tell you that the silly old cow supported an illegal take over of power in the Gambia by then-Lieutenant Jammeh on 22 July 1994 just because Jemmah was from the Wolon tribe like him. I wonder why Sata does not quote Mugabe next door as opposed to scampering to West Africa for comparables leaving a more suitable one next door.

  54. Sata is a selfish old man and believe me you if the PACT finally crushes he will go to his grave with Minister without portfolio as his highest achievement. If he becomes sober and allows HH the briliant young man to run for Presidency then he can atleast attain vice presidency. Anyway I hope HH as the bigger one in the whole of this impasse will not respond through the media. Whatever the case MMD is far from being the option so they should not sit on both their bums.

  55. Dear Zedians,

Even as you go around singing tuposemo akalibwe muli ba pact maweee, remember to pray for the two confused chaps Sata and Ichilema so that they don’t turn to their Chawama and Mapatizya formulas against each other’s throats. From a false marriage of convenience to fierce enemies in brink of an eye they are too desperate to outdo each other. Anything is possible.Their hatred has hit a boiling point.

  56. #46 people like you who support sata blindly even when he is in the wrong are the ones who have contributed to the demise of the PACT. I hope HH sees through this nonsense and leave this noncensical pact while his integrity is still intact. PF just wanted to use UPND to get to state house, such selfish tribalistic individuals. They want to partner with UNPD and yet they use every opportunity to dicredit UPND and insult its leader. Lets see how sata can get to state house on his own riding on mmembe’s shoulders

  57. The painful truth is that NONE of these 3 men, Rupiah Banda, Sata and HH is fit to be president of Zambia. They are all egoists and opportunists.

  58. I only hope Sata realises that Mmembe’s support is always a “Kiss of death”. Just ask magande and ba maureen who were supported by the post where that support took them! Reading the mmembe’s immature and extremely biased commentry in today’s post, I’m totally convinced that UPND should leave this silly marriage of convinience. Mmembe claims PF is a bigger party than UPND, based on what?? Maybe membe is basing PF’s popularity on the number of PF stories featured in the post. Ba post dont think all Zambians are fools. UPND has been winning bye elections for the PACT this year while PF has been losing.

  59. #45 LADY ZED. Do you know or fathorm you ranting against me. I barely poised to let all zambians know that HH has no experience and is unpopular. I hope zambians like you know how to distinguish between black and white. You need lenses young girl. Can you read in between lines, can you sense the language of HH? His own MP’s are trying to speak for him while he is out there praising himself. Coward! It is HH who wants to use PF polpulace. We all know who has come close to the highest sit in the land, HH has never except remain in his third position. Recently, you heard UPND members desiring to rally behind RB and that must be ironic. Do you trust such, let alone when he is with someone with experience. Its simple mathermatics, if PF is popular in this area, let PF run but how do you…

  60. Sorry LADY ZED, some of my words for you are removed by LT.But take you grey matter for check-there could be cancer of unreasoning there.
    Chao!

  61. The writing was on the wall for a very long time but some people chose to forget to remember the true colours of one Michael Chilufya Sata appropriately named by the late Yumbe as King Cobra. The pact was never going to work and this is just part of what psychoanalysts would call a script. The final implosion is coming soon for the pact. Forward with RB!:)>-

  62. # Iyee: I agree with you. Ba Post think they know it all. It’s part of Mmembe’s agenda to be king maker but as you have correctly put it he has always failed. This time round we want him to come out in the open and declare his support for Sata and PF. There is no need to hide behind editorial comments. People are not f.o.o.lish.
Let the three parties go it alone and we will see who is more popular. We cannot continue living on past glory. It will be nice to have the 50% presidential constitutional clause to settle the pact issue. Whichever party comes third will decide who between the 1st and 2nd to support. That will sort out the pact mess.

  63. Lady Zed: I like your analysis. Please soldier on. Don’t be discouraged by negative opinions. You are brainy and you have a vision. You can see through what is wrong or right. We love you!!!

  64. Well, well, finally we have arrived; at the end of what never was. Sata like his supporters thought they were clever and that HH and UPND were dull and could be woodwinked. HH did not become chief executive of a multinational company for nothing – he is sharp!

So now we have a PF/POST pact lets see how well it does. As for me, ever since Mmembe poped that debate of Bemba being made a national language, I realised he was shallow and not a nationalist. For those who still believe him and take his editorials as gospel truth, good luck – you are within your rights.

As for those crying about the Pact, ask yourselves what you really want. Ask yourselves in all honest why you support either HH or Sata. If Sata and HH were of the same tribe, who would you support? Change we need BUT at what…

  65. I do agry with most of the comments you GUYS have put accross. The pact is doomed to fall becoz of FRED MMEMBE. I now believe why this chap was taken behid bars and it is my hope that he must getback to prison. He is very subjective than objective. This mmembe thing will always do everything possible to campaign for those he wants and decampaign those he have personal hatred for which is very unfortunate. I remember how he championed to have Sakwiba be UPND president, and after he lost that was the end of support for the UPND by the post. The same thing happened in 2008 wen Magande, was defeated by Rupia, the same mmembe and his post became ANTI-Rupiah, even now he(mmembe) has smelt that Hichilema, might be president that is the very reason he is writting negative about UPND.

  66. Are there any sane people who support Sata or it is just that most Zambian’s brains are marred by poverty and so they think there is any substance in this chief Kaponya. VIVA HH.

  67. It would be desirable for the PACT to die now than die at the eleventh hour. The heartaches caused are there for all to see. Just look at how people are insulting each other blaming Senior Citizen when MMD has created jobs for such people:d! The problem with our country is we are a bunch of hypocrites who believe in cosmetic lives. One lady told me that she would rather date a zimbabwean than a Zambian because Zims were genuine while Zambians are lazy sweet talkers…probably true. We fear the truth when criticised. If HH and his bunch of opportunists had dared to listen to Hon Chizyuka, the PACT would have gained more depth as their goals would have been harmonised. But alas the man has been called all sorts of names. Today he stands vindicated. The problem is that the ideological

  68. ba kaponya especially those in the diaspora think that if sata became president their will be enough money in the country for themto come back from self exile and build houses and have a lot of cash in there pockets. they are sick and tired of leaving abroad but too scared of kuchula under mmd. just come back and be counted

  69. backgrounds of the two are at variance not ease to bridge. When you look at the calibre of some PF MPs on the copperbelt, you wonder what good can come out of them. Like i said, Post = Fred just as PF = Michael Sata. I ask anyone to challenge me on this score and we can debate. How can you not be subservient to a person who appoints you without giving a job description? What are you supposed to be doing? All PF members believe in is that Sata is their messiah. Without Sata, let us not pretend, there would be no PF. its high time we stopped lying to ourselves.

  70. HH hijacked the party from one Mazoka, the son of Zambia MHSRIP. He has no leadership skills to show for let alone hide in the PF shadows and besides closed doors drum up his own support for his selfish witts. Egoistic. Even Chifire said this guy is a bully, he bullies his own wife, MMD and the IG in Mufumbwe. He nearly punched one office there. I like him for that kind of hash leadership but he must learn to trim down some of it and know that a country is not like a home with five people, husband,wife,3 children. There is more to that. Even if he compared himself to Cameron=cameron and has come along way through the public office son has Nick Cleg-who was once state secretatary. Can one tell me HH’s record is far as governing is concerned. Can he also take out his pride and ride along…

  71. #68 Mimi….you make me laugh but I feel your pain. hard as I try, I fail to find reasons why sata should be considered as presidential material…..to a large extent, it explains why Zambia is poor and why foreigners come to Zambia, abuse zambians with the help of Zambians. Most Zambians have a true sense of patriotism and no value system.

I asked one lady why they would vote for sata, I was told ‘nimuntu nayeve so nikumuvotela’

Good luck to the PF/POST pact!

  72. i am very saddened by the politics of opportunism and tribalism. It is high time we rose above such pettiness and put Zambia before self. So far only KK has shown this country that we are equal hence the tribal balancing. This nonsence of thinking that certain tribes are superior will never take us anywhere. I am disgusted with these greedy politicians who just want to break our hearts and loot the treasury at the end of the day.

  73. georgeWbush & politics of saving Zambia better,
you, both, have truly made day lmao!!!! George W, you have the verbal eloquence of the real George w Bush (and that’s not a complement!!!) and politics of saving, ati rabbish!!! lmao!!!! Combined, the two of you are as dumb as a bucket of hair!
educate your selves grammatically PLEASE. You are a discredit to our nation.

  74. Oh, by the way, Sata is a product of 2 failed regimes, HH, is a pompous arrogant F.O.O.L, and Bwezani is slightly r.e.t.a.r.d.e.d.

  75. The Legacy #74, am glad you have possed a question like that.
If HH was selected as president, its okay. The only sence at the end of the day is that leadership cancer in the PACT will be sorted out and they will vent their energies to togetherness. Time is running out and it is this leadership problem that is causing all this chaos. The thing is, Sata is ready to rally behind HH, but i guess HH is not and outrightly wants the top sit. In their MOU, i must say they have agreed to run to rallybehind each other for the good of the country and not to campaign for oneself within the PACT. HH has a fear, some sort of inferiority complex. He knows that PF and Sata are undoubtedly more polpular than HH & UPND. He cant come from somewhere and before they even sit with his counterpart, he says…

  76. Good Afternoon

The pact, with it’s power-play and tense stand-off situation is really one of a kind. Both leaders remind me of two kungfu masters facing each other – standing absolutely immobile as they wait for the other to move first. Just one slip by either side and self-destruction is guaranteed.

#58 and others wondering where I’ve been hiding, I currently work 12 hours (!) a day, clocking in at 09:00 am and working until 09:00 pm! Except for a quick peek at the headlines, there’s absolutely no time for me to drop a detailed analysis. Thanks to the excellent analogic quality amongst all the illustrous LT bloggers, at the moment I would rather lay back and read the comments than write something myself.

  77. no PACT no vote. It is a sheer waste of time voting for the same party with same ideologies. The MMD is not a party to continue entrusting with our natural resources. If Sata and HH are tired, let the pact choose a different person within the rank. Otherwise, natunaka nabo bakelenka aba sapota ama crooks yatwibile.

  78. #69 MK: It was necessary for UPND to join the UPND/PF pack. This has worked to their advantage. Imagine what would have happened had HH and Co. refused to work with Sata? He could have been called all sorts of name like opportunist, arrogant, greedy, selfish, tribalist etc. By agreeing to work in a pack with PF they demonstrated that they were ready to put the interest of the country first. There was, as expected, competition for the top job and UPND wanted to work out procedures on how to choose the Presidential candidate. PF on the other end thought since they were the largest party of the two hence the president should come from them. There in lies the problem. Personally I do not agree with Chizyuka’s politics. If I may remind you Chizyuka is a known tribalist and he hates Sata.

  79. #78 georgeWbush: Sata can not agree to be VP. He is just playing a gimmick here. In the same statement he make he has already contradicted himself by publicly declaring that he is the best candidate. I won’t be surprised that Sata and not Mmebe has been writing all those editorial comments in the post newspaper about the pact. Probably that explains his silence ever since problems in the pact were exposed.
As to whether Sata and PF are more popular than HH and UPND, that is yet to be proved. Politics is dynamic so you can not always rely on past results to measure the current status quo. Unfortunately in Zed we don’t have regular opinion polls.

  80. i see things are not going well in the PACT & the PACT was our only last option! But now i see MMD keep on ruining our country with their corrupt tactics!! Please God gives us leader with the heart for the people of Zambia!!!!!:(:(

  81. The beginning of the fulfilment of my prophecy. Two desparate and power hungry leaders can not agree on who should be present. Watch this space. There is more

  82. #82 i agree indeed but what has gone wrong. Sometimes refusing to submit senselessly to certain tribal beliefs would be mistaken for tribalism. Others argue to dominate other tribes so on that account probably Chizyuka is right. Regarding Chizyuka being a tribalist i dont know. I think the PACT was/is necessary for both PF and UPND. The moment the eyes feel they are more important than the anus, then trouble begins. How else are they supposed to choose the leader of the PACT if not based on numbers?

  83. The Legacy and Zed Patriot,i gree withnyou,i only hope that even Mmembe has time to go thru these comments. We de do agree that he’s played an important role in as far as fighting bad governance is concerned but i that he is slowly losing track.the current POSt in nolonegr the one we new sometime back,it has now become a tool for fighting Mmembe’s enermies. If Fred was so connerned about figting tribalism he should have condemed GBM on the remarks he made during campaigns in Kasama,We also expected him to condem Namulambe,Mpomboand another PF Mp who made some tribal remarks against the Luvales but in all this he has been quite. We do admit we have some individual tribalsit in every tribe and we dont expect anyone to toralate some and condem others…

  84. Zambians, this is a great test for our nation. Failure by the pact to unite will mean end of a better future for our children. There is nothing tangible that MMD has done that we can see with our naked eyes. People who raped our economy have become heroes in our nation. It’s a mockery of the waste kind to support a person who had raped your wife. Zambia is bleeding not because she has no resources but because of mediocrity in leadership. MMD should at all cost pack their bags otherwise we are in for rampart corruption after 2011.

  85. Trusting a Bemba is the last thing a normal Zambia can do. Well its good every Zambian knows how to show them all are Zambians. Bembas are like Nigerias. This is why we have problems of VISAs. What do you expect if you allow the Nigerian in the economy. Look at what is happening in Zambia in terms of women in drugs. These guys are very smart and have troubled South Africa and now we are in it. Surly how do u let these guys in the country. They hide behind church yet something else.

  86. … It’s all over now..

The POST supports SATA and not the PACT. HH has been left sucking his thumbs by Fred Mmembe & Sata. UPND should form an alliance with MMD – at least they will feel loved! The Post thinks they are the King makers in Zambia – they will shocked come 2011!

  87. ZEDIANS@ You are thats predijuce. I guess we cannot say Sata will refuse to be VP.That proves my point that HH and UPND have some inferiority complex. I wonder why they should not take their third place in understanding the whole scenerio because the masses have placed them there. UPND thrives because it was started by a known zambian son-one Mazoka. Even Milupi has managed to form a party, can HH do that? We cant allow him to be hijacking everything-he needs to win the minds of zambians for him to pride himself not on the prestext of the populace of PF & Sata. Currently, ECZ figures show Sata atop. The previous elections depict that too. Does this guy HH listen, wonder?
Can Zed patriot @84 tell me, why the three UPND MPs hinted to the fact that they would rather rally behind RB even…

  88. let’s hope HH is not losing it,because when an intelligent person like him starts making a fuss about age then really much leaves to be desired.

  89. #89 MK: that is the dilemma. Choosing a pact president based on historical results is not the best criteria. Sata could have been more popular in 2008 but that could not be the case now. I think the best option is to choose a pact leader at a specially convened summit were delegates from each province representing each party are allowed to vote. There are fears that this might cause divisions, but that is the price you pay for democracy. Alternatively it will be better for them to push for a 50 plus presidential system and let each party stand alone. That way we can determine who is more popular and then the people can chose which pact to go for depending on the results. …..each part of the body is equally important for the body system to function well.

  90. I will tell you one thing, even if Sata formed an alliance with MMD, there will be sincereity in govt. RB also just needs someone to lean on and at the moment is surrounded by people who have messed up and need protection. If HH merged with MMD, i doubt there will be change?

  91. AS QUOTED IN THE POST TODAY. THESE ARE THE WORDS OF YOUR SO CALLED LEADER SATA:

“If we wanted to bulldoze, either UPND or ourselves would have stood in Luena. We are far much stronger in Luena and we prevailed on our candidate in Luena not to stand as an independent candidate. That is one,” Sata, who featured on a HOT FM radio programme, said.

“(2) I have not toured the country denouncing HH. But he has done so. I have not gone to the press, coming from America and say ‘I’m the best because I’m young’. I wasn’t born old.” Sata said all the ministers in the current government were young but impotent when it came to delivering for the country. He said what mattered most in the Pact was sincerity.

  92. The pact and the problem of insincerity
    By The Post
    Fri 23 July 2010
It seems there is a serious problem of insincerity and dishonesty in the PF-UPND pact.
And probably, this is why Michael Sata is demanding sincerity in this pact.
We all know very well that this pact will not work if it is not founded on sincerity and honesty. And in any pact or alliance, those involved in it have to accept the integrity of their partners.
If they fail to do so, it will not be possible for them to build a meaningful or viable partnership.

We say this because a pact that lacks sincerity will have intra-pact strife which will inevitably result in pact members’ concentration on discords, distracting the pact from effective and efficient opposition

  93. Surely it would be better for the country if the pact was to die a natural death. If they is all this noise before they have even produced a manifesto and chosen a leader, how the hell do you expect them to govern for five years and produce positive tangible results? The pact has been in existence for over a year now, if it had any strength in it’s legs, we should now be talking about the pacts policies and who is in their shadow cabinet and not this non-sense which has nothing to do about the development of Zambia but the interests of certain individuals. Ousting MMD from power should not be the basis of a any political movement. Zambia and Zambians deserve better.

  94. I dont know how old you bloggers are, but I will tell you Matongo and Hachipuka are not honourable atall. 1) Matongo destroyed CONTRACT HAULAGE.2)Hachipuka destroyed Zambia Railways. 3)These two chaps ensured only a Tonga succeeded the lat Mazoka, hence the houding out of Sakwiba, Sichinga and Chisanga. These are the guys who have/may destroy our only chance of booting out the MMD Axis of Evil.

  95. Just as though my conseption was wrong read about sentments written by #92PF. It says perhaps all the mind of HH. Iam from NW-one who Sata castigated but am sure i hold him with high esteem for being able to speak his mind. Clearly what is there.
For HH PF 92 says it all. Its not about tribal, but HH rides along those lines let alone his own have neglected him including Chief Mwanachingwala. He fails to convince me outrightly. I guess i can give him 50% trust. Mind you HH has been in an alliance before and this is not the first time. I guess the curtain will be rolled over during their convention or when HH responds to Sata’s attack. For now, he must reflect on what his counterpart has said and learn one or two things-his ego is too. Be careful with a person who is so clean that you…

  96. #17 Wanzelu chikala. Times of Zambia did not originate this story. Your kaponya president Sata was speaking on ra live adio Hot fm programme. You are free to ask Hot Fm for a CD copy of that interview to hear for yourself how your fellow chikala Sata was ranting and raving like a mad man.

  98. When Charles Milupi refused to join PACT he was called all sorts of names. He is by far a better man we need more of such coming together if we are to see meaningful change, otherwise we will continue on a roller coaster which started spinning in 1991 until we are all too dazed to stand. Can you imagine another term with bakulu mpuno. He will be pushing 80 through his term, ladies and gents we can do better than this. To Charles Milupi better lose alone dignified if it comes to that than join a 2 headed snake alliance!!

  99. #95 georgeWbush: Let me repeat my point. HH was 3rd in the last presidential result, that is a fact. There are reasons why that happened. The nation was in mourning and there was the sympathy vote for the late Mwanawasa that benefited RB. MMD was gaining ground in UPND strongholds at the time because of Mwanawasa. There was fear amongst some UPND voters who disliked Sata & thought he might win so they tactfully supported RB. On the other hand there were some UPND supporters who did not want MMD to continue & voted Sata to increase chances of kicking out UPND. Remember, there were calls to reserve HH for 2011.
Parties are not like’ tutembas’ started by individuals. They are mass movements. They represent ideas. Even Sata’s PF was build on the notion of perceived persecution of…

  100. I dont understand all the doomsday theorists! even in the American primaries candidates of the same party jostle for the position. The only difference is that they are not so personal. however i do recall John mcains age and health status being mentions many times in the republican primaries. THIS IS HEALTHY POLITICS as long as it is done in a mature manner. May the best man win and VIVA PACT!

  101. UPND is welcome to enter an alliance with MMD, VJ
Veteran Politician Vernon Mwaanga says that the United Party for National Development UPND is welcome to enter into Political Alliance with the Movement for Multi party Democracy MMD.

Mr. Mwaanga who is also MMD National trustee says that the UPND and MMD unlike the PF and UPND can only get into an alliance and not into a Pact.

Mr. Mwanga also reaffirmed that assertions that there are talks going on between the UPND and the MMD are false and unfounded.

He said that the MMD has no reason to hide any agreements that it is getting into with other parties.

He said that it is sad that when he suggested that the people of Southern Province were looking forward to entering into an alliance with MMD the PF-UPND pact rose against him…

  103. This was said by HH in April 2010. Why apply it like it happened yesterday? Frustrating and f .o.o.l.i.s.h.

  104. Now we see who HH is, just trying to hijack things. Where the ground is hot, he moves where its abit warm. Can we trust such kind of a leader. Solution lies in booting MMD completely out of govt or else let him not even condemn RB because its like he shares the spoils of his thinking with MMD. I said it that, HH is unpopular as compared to Sata and the figures also testify-sits in parliament. Howver, he wants to use the populace of PF to get the highest sit. Things dont just come that way. Sata too deserves a place and this can only be decided at the convention. This must be done soon or else, there will be more fun there than MMD convention.

  105. There is no proper reasoning between the two leaders. Sata has now made it worse by criticing the partner in public. If the pronouncements of HH before were not right, should have called him there and then and discuss them with him in private. The pact is a marriage. Just like in a marriage, cannot wait until problems build up that is when you sit down to discuss them. I am surprised, both leaders are married but are failing to apply the basic principles of marriage. I hope cool heads now will prevail. If HH also replies Sata in the media, that is the end of the pact.

  106. We can not allow a thug close to power. HH must quickly find another alternative. Leave the snake alone. Do not be duped by king cobra saying he can be vp. He had said exactly that in 2008 & sent guy scot & lubinda to hold you up all afternoon at Pamozi hotel while he campaigned in Kafue. HH get it into your head, a thug is a thug period. Join MMD as pact NOW! Better than evil.

  107. please mwe bantu dont celebrate OR cry..Sata has not said the PACT has disolved OR they will split..he is merely trying to say’ HH check your tongue and what you say”..so MMD dont celebrate yet..this to me has even made the PACT more stronger.. did I read someone has again flown out of the country for the umpteeth time, to Uganda, where he can surely send even his deputy minister..PACT or NO PACT, ba MMD kuya bebele together with your tourist leader..!!

  108. The formular which the Post have is to destroy the pact and let UPND stan alone or with another small party. They have seen that UPND is only likely to get votes from MMD strong hold since a truee MMD can not vote for a lumpen. This will erode the 35,000 vote leed that MMD had over Sata and Sata will win. That is why I think it is important for UPND not to just leave the pact but to support MMD.

  109. It’s good president Sata has come out and brought to the fore these issues, he’s not like any of you pretenders always hiding and pretending. Let us debate these things, bring them out and resolve on how we should move forward.

  110. Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Felix Mutati said Government efforts to reduce the cost of doing business in Zambia are beginning to bear fruit.
Speaking at the launch of Pick n Pay in Lusaka on Wednesday night, Mr Mutati said the retail sector in Zambia is the second biggest contributor to the gross domestic product (GDP) at 15 percent.

Pick n Pay is investing US$25 million in Zambia, and its goal is to open seven stores, five in Lusaka and two on the Copperbelt.
Mr Mutati said Government is keen to make a difference in Zambia, adding that the coming of investors such as Pick n Pay will help make a difference.

  111. “The wave of inspiration is what Pick n Pay is bringing to Zambia. The company will connect 5,000 farmers who will be supplying vegetables and fruits,” he said. Pick n Pay chairman Gareth Ackerman said the legacy of the retail store is looking after its customers, helping the business community and the surrounding community. “Pick n Pay started in South Africa in 1967, and our focus is on developing the African operations. We are happy to be in Zambia, a market that is growing very fast with the projected GDP of 5.8 percent this year,” he said. Pick n Pay group enterprise director Dallas Langman said the retail store chain is excited to be expanding in Africa as evidenced by the opening of its first store in Zambia.
Mr Langman said southern Africa represents an attractive market

  112. Pick n Pay Zambia general manager Andy Roberts said the company is working closely with the Zambia Development Agency as a point of contact for local business houses and Roseblooms, a Ngwerere-based farm, as a point of consolidation for small-scale farmers together with Pick n Pay South Africa.
Mr Roberts said the company plans to establish an academy to grow and improve the farming community in Zambia. “As the group’s policy, we will use local suppliers as far as possible, and work with the local farmers in a bid to grow the local farming base,” he said.
He said the group is also exploring the possibilities of franchising Pick n Pay to investors who will meet the group’s standards.

  113. #98 i like the way you look at things. I wish these two camps would do that. But if they come with the same number of delegates wouldnt there be a stalemate uncountable times? These two appear to me as die hards.

  114. #122 You are very correct – the opposition is busy opposing each other. In the mean time, they are not articulating their vision of the kind of Zambia they want to see in the future. If the pact get over this impasse, then they have to come up with a manifesto and then sell it to the Zambian public – good luck to them. In the mean time, another stumbling block for the pact will be the adoption of the new constitution. UPND have been part of it whereas PF have boycotted it, what happens if the new constitution is adopted? If the pact won the election, would they agree on the writing of yet another constitution?

  115. #95 georgeWbush: Let me repeat my point. HH was 3rd in the last presidential result, that is a fact. There are reasons why that happened. 116. # 117, so RB should have sent ‘even his deputy minister’ to attend the 15th Summit of the African Union in Kampala, Uganda? For your infor, there are 49 heads of state and governments attending the same. So Zambia should send a deputy minister instead? And, which deputy minister would that be? Grow up!

  117. #124 MK : They are both competitors. That is what I like about them(Sata & HH). Unfortunately most Zambians don’t see it that way. To them they are power hungry, selfish, egoistic, tribalistic, arrogant,….the list is endless. Unless us Zambians embrace competition and learn how to set the rules we will remain underdeveloped. In Zed who ever shows presidential ambitions is called all sorts of names.

  118. The leadership in the pact should be decided by popularity. Who is more popular between hh and Sata. Dont even wreck your innocent brain, Sata is by far more popular. Exhibit is the last Presidential results! What makes you think HH had suddenly become popular over night? \:d/ Even simple minds can pick this from a distance! If colour. Dont pretend:o

  119. chad I agree with you. some people are just so foolish in their posts. When have you heard a Deputy Minister attend an African Union Heads of State and Government Summitt?? Even when European Union meets all the Prime Ministers, Presidents and whoever is head of state or government attend. Zambia is an important country in African politics and its President must attend such meetings

  122. #114 georgeWbush…stop blogging like you are dealing with kids here ok! Whatever amount of spining you can do, you cannot wash Sata clean

    1. Was it not Sata who was the chief supporter of the 3rd term?
    2. Was it not Sata who called the Mazoka you are now praising tribal?
    3. Was it not Sata who had USD 27,000 confiscated at the airport in RSA?
    4. Was it not Sata who cheated that a Chinese porter at a hotel stole his passport when CCTV showed that he left the hotel with the passport?
    5. Was it not Sata who said in 2008 that if he won the poll, there would be no elections in 2011?

Now wake up and smell the coffee, Zambians are not fools that can follow baseless support for Sata. Its not Sata or a Pact zambia needs, its a good govt!

  123. 128 Serenje Bull says: Politics is dynamic. HH was 3rd in 2008t, that is a fact. There are reasons why that happened. Remember the nation was in mourning and there was the sympathy vote for the late Mwanawasa that benefited RB. Mwanawasa transformed the support base for MMD to penetrate UPND stronghoods. On the other hand there were some UPND supporters who did not want MMD to continue voted Sata to increase chances of kicking out MMD. Remember, there were calls to reserve HH for 2011. The power dynamics are different now as witnessed in the recent bye elections in N/W province. So you can not be 100% sure that Sata is more popular.

  127. The famous wako Jacko once said THIS IS IT. It applies to SATA. He has been so desparate to rule zambia. This was his last chance.

  128. #131, thank you. I wouldn’t have put it better.
Do you think PF cadres stop for a moment to reason? No chance, they would harm the few brain cells they have.

  129. Where did all these Nigerian bloggers come from, all of a sudden? Maybe we need synophobia in Zambia too to cleanse us of this festering cancer. By the way, none of the old presidents Sata mentioned have ever suffered debilitating heart attacks or neither was any of them found with four serious diseases seriously resident in their bodies like is the case with Zondwe. Presidential state funerals are an expensive venture, we know this well from precedent to “awe sure Zondwe munee, twanaka ufwe abantu.” To compare yourself to Mandela is tantamount to stinking political blasphemy, alah!

  130. #128 Serenje Bull: Politics is dynamic. HH came 3rd in 2008, that is a fact. Is that still the case now? only an election or properly conducted opinion poll can tell. In 2008 some UPND voters backed RB becoz expected Levy’s legacy to continue(sympathy vote) or they feared Sata would win. Some UPND voters supported Sata becoz they wanted to increase the chances of kicking out MMD. There were no parliamentally elections that year and no MPs were campaigning on the ground. The Post supported Sata and the state media supported RB so the contest was portrayed as a two horse race. HH also lost his supporters in Eastern Province as they switched to their own son. These factors will be different in the next elections. The recently held bye elections are pointing something different.

  131. I wish some people would stop “copying and pasting” biographies from wikipedia and masquarading as being fountains of knowledge. Let us also not equate intelligence or leadership to education. Unless you are saying that before education was introduced in africa there was no one capable of leading or anyone intelligent.

As for this disagreement within the pact – this is the test of leadership and the power of persuasion. If HH and Sata fail to use their negociating and reasoning skills to reach a diplomatic agreement, then how can we trust them with more serious matters of state? Consider how Obama embraced Hilary Clinton post election despite her attacks on him previously, and thus placated to an extent the democratic party.

Pact also needs some PR advice and info containment…

  132. age is a factor..sata is sick,he’s got chest problems and heart problems..we shouldn’t experiment..give the youngman!!

  133. One coment by sata cought my attention and i caught: ”MMD knows they are weak so they want to form a pact with UPND to have an extra Province”. This is an insult to UPND insinuating that they are only strong in southern province and PF is strong almost everywhere. The truth is that even if these two are voted into government, these conflicts will surfice and consequently miss rule zambia and cause arnachy in the country.Level headed zambians by now shold know that going for PACT is suicidal for our zambia developmental endavours!!

  134. We need to keep our eyes on the ball and not drop it, the objective is to remove MMD. If we effective democratic institutions that are independent and serve as checks and balances and ensure good governance, it shouldn’t really matter that much wether it is Sata or HH that is the President. Obviously i do have a preference, but rather than add to the diviseness, i will keep my ballot secret.

There are a number of strategies the pact could use. Have we forgotten that when MMD was formed Chiluba was nowhere in the leadership picture, he was merely used as an instrument for change. Not so much a pone in a game of chess because as we both know he turned on them and “bum-rushed” them! Wrong choice in the end, but fit for purpose

  135. Fellow bloggers sorry this is a bit off topic but I just wanted to warn those who dont already know (if any) that there is an ATM scam going on to please take note and avoid swiping your debit cards in stores. A number of people who bank with stanchart, barclays and stanbic have already lost millions of kwachas after swiping their cards. Not sure if withdrawing from ATMs is also affected. If this is stale news for you please ignore the message. Have yourselves a good weekend. Remember ni vima politics chabe ivi, dont develop BP over the discussions on this site.

  136. #139 You are very correct. Even if they iron out their differences and get into govt, the squabbles will continue and might lead to a Kenya type situation. People forget that Odinga and Kibaki got together to get rid of Moi.
#14O Not all of us want to get rid of MMD. If you think that Sata as president would not run roughshod over any form of democratic practice then you must be extremely naive. Why should a person who has never practiced any form of democracy within his own party suddenly become a great patriot for the country? What kind of ‘change’ would an old man like Sata realistically bring to Zambia? The man can not articulate a single point from a to b let alone to c and you think he is presidential material?

  137. #140 Simon…NO! the objective is NOT ‘to remove MMD’, the objective is to develop Zambia. Weather its MMD or UPND or PF or Pact that does it should not matter unless one is on a particular party’s payrole.

#139 Patriot: If Sata said what you have quoted, then HH and UPND will be fools to remain in this PACT. In anycase, PF has a pact with the POST so UPND are just wasting their time. If the PF/POST pact can say all they are saying now about UPND, imagine what they would do if they got into power.

I cant wait for 2011 to see the reaction of the POST when their sponsored candidate Sata is not elected president!!!

  138. 141 comments in single day for LT stories is a high record.

That alone should make over-confident MMD to check itself and revise their 2011 projections.

Its a pity Sata and HH have failed the Zambian people by being too selfish.

  139. #131 LEGACY YOU HAVE MADE MY DAY FOR THE REMINDERS.
    1. SATA DEPOSITED MONEY FOR MEZARF HOUSING PROJECT IN HIS ACCT AT STANSCHAT
2.SATA TOLD US IN 1990 OF AN ARMS DUMP IN SINDAMISALA
    3. SATA MADE MEDICAL STORES PAY RENTALS FOR HIS SHOP AT FARMERS HOUSE
4, SATA HOUNDED EVERYONE OUT OF MMD AND REMAINED WITH FTJ FOR 3RD TERM
5, SATA WAS FLOWN IN AIR AMBULANCE TO JBURG WITH A FAILED HEART.
6, SATA WAS CHASED IN CHIPATA BY MAUREEN FOR TRYING TO TURN FUNERAL INTO COMEDY

  140. Someone said “The devil you know is better than the one you don’t know” and thus, I urge the mighty UPND Group to stay in the PF-UPND PACT because Mr PF/Sata MC knows what is at stake for him while the POST and PF cadres all over the world do not agree with Mr PF/Sata MC’s resolve to support HH for Zambian President (see today’s POST Editorial Comment).

When both Mr PF’s Sata MC and Mr UPND’s HH continually announced that the PACT will stand, I just knew it that Mr Sata MC was ready to become HH’s and Zambian Vice-President because of this opportunity for Mr Sata MC to help bring in better socio-economic politics in Zambia.

Bravo Mr PF/Sata MC for agreeing to be HH’s Vice-President and continue encouraging your supporters to now support HH for Zambian President…

  141. 143 – Legacy, if the objective was to develop the country then they would not be focusing on elections. They would be content to play their role as official opposition create checks and balances. Their objective in the short term is to take over the reigns of power – whoever makes you believe otherwise is lying to you. Thats just the reality no matter how naive we may wish to be.

Development will never come from a person given the title “President”. Developent requires a multi thronged approach that focuses on capacity building, macro economic management and accountability. A president is just a figure head and he does not have all the answers!

  142. Pact was doomed to fail. How do you expect the pact to hold when such important issues as the candidacy are not agreed from the outset? Sata should quit now…..He is way past his sell by date>

  143. I still find it ridiculous that some people actually believed this PACT would work. Zambia has been a peaceful nation ever since it got its independence. For that we have KK to thank. If there is one person who can trigger civil war in Zambia, it is Michael Sata. He cannot serve under another person, and whats more, no sane intelligent person can serve effectively under him. I hope the electorate are not blinded by his rhetoric and end up voting for him next year.

  144. BA SENIOR CITIZEN # Thanks for your comment but in all the comments i can’t see any comment that is sensible, first of all dont use the BIBLE in order to steal or cheat people, am studying the bible dont take the bible the way it is and for that matter in pieces for interpretations,NO. Ask your son maybe might know something over the bible when you are stealing from the bible you are not looking at what does the bible say over the commandiment of stealing, but you are using it in order to win people BIBLE IS NOT A JERITA AND MULENGA BOOK! so dont waist your time on using it

  145. Believe what you want to believe. I guess all we want is a peaceful zambia. Unless others have affiliations to these leaders……..Come 2010! Lo!, i will be back home!

  146. Better the devil you know (SATA)than the one you dont know(HH)
Let me go and check if my account has not been tempered with.

    Gooday

  147. no more pact…..like it or hate it MMD is coming back 2011 cause of the failure of the opposition to unite.

  148. One thing am sure is that Mr Mwaanga got wind of HH alliance with MMD before Sata came out to tell off HH. Look in the eyes of HH and tell me if you see meekness? Even RB said it. I guess deep down in his heart, he has seen better ways of getting along with MMD than Sata because of inferiority amoungest his own tribes men and most zambians out there. If he was prudent, the last thing UPND, would do is merge with MMD. I guess MMD has a cancer left by one FTJ which is incurable let alone infectious. I tell you one thing, even if RB, moved out of MMD, he will be the right person, however, his affiliation makes him what he has become. Tell me who is worthy trusting in the entire MMD grandstand? I guess none, even the MUATI’s are merely a show! As long as there will be rotten eggs like Vernon…

  149. 170 ba george bush, please help with ideas of how the pact can be saved. Don’t worry about MMD or Mwaanga, they are a mass party who know how to cure themselves, they are resilient and founded on stone unlike the late pact.

  150. The statement was mad in MAY not today or yesterday…. what is the noise about? or is there a reason someone went to resurrect an old story….?

  151. The problem of trusting a bemba. Bembas cannot be trusted. HH is quiet and he never attacked Sata when he has been saying he wants to be president. Its good the pact is dead. Bembas have problems thats why they are always stealing.

  152. Ba Pact, you are so argumentative even when the facts are bare. Is this the time when you have known that the Pact is a non-starter? Everyone knew from the beginning and told you in clear terms that you were just in a trance and when you come back to life you would find that there was no real Pact after all. Why do you want to waste our precious time on nothing? Imagine we have been debating this for over a year now.

  153. 157 Lady Zed, thank you for your warning on the VISA scam. And for the motherly caution over BP, but don’t worry about us non-Pact bloggers: a little BP = a little excitement, actually good to exercise the heart. The real worry is on those Pact cadres who swallowed everything that Sata and HH could spew in the past one year, only to learn the truth today. Agony madam!

  154. The PACT has collapsed because it had no real support among the masses/grassroots in both parties. If the masses believe in a cause they will not allow it to collapse, they will simply change leaders who are found wanting and move on. That is the real secret of MMD’s elephant-like strength, the grassroots.

  155. pact is rubbish coz its made up of greedy people…………………………………………………

  156. cannot trust sata supported third term and it will be difficulty to remove him from power. mmd is cool coz we are able to change leaders every time there is an election. within 18 years of power we’ve had three presidos and new ministers. sata and the group just a worf in a goats sheep. eng. one day should just rise and come up with our own party.

  157. Lets expel both Sata and HH from the pact and move on. We are not going to allow the two of them to confuse us. This is not about individuals, its about the Zambian masses who are suffering due to bad governance by the MMD. Don’t take us for granted, we owe you guys nothing period.

  158. HH WABA ICITOLE AFTER WALYAMO FROM LUPIYA BANDA .YOU WILL MANTAIN YOUR POSITION OF NUMBER 3 AND NUMBER ONE IN SOUTHERN PROVINCE.GO AHEAD AND FORM A PACT WITH MMD WHO HAS PROMISED YOU TO BE VICE PRESIDENT IN 2011. YOU SHAMLESS *****. I CAN ASURE YOU THAT YOU WILL NEVER NEVER NEVER ENTER STATE HOUSE BEFORE MR SATA.VIVA PF VIVA MR SATA. HH WABA ICITOLE.

  159. HH VERY VERY CORRUPT. WABA ICITOLE CAN YOU TELL US HOW MUCH YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN BY CHILUBA AND PRESIDENT BANDA. YOU ARE LIKE B. Y WHO WANTE TO BE THE PRESIDENT BUT HE IS NOW A SMALL BOY MP.HH I CAN SEE YOU ARE REAL TONGA AND YOU ARE MARRIED TO A MWENYE WHO CAN NOT ADVISE YOU ON WHAT IS GOOD AND WHAT IS BAD.

  160. 183 Is that how deep the PACT was? I mean after a few tiffs in the PACT family, you guys are already at each others throats, or at something between the legs to be exact.
Good night fellows, the countdown has started and when I wake up tomorrow another day will be counted towards demise of PACT. And who is hosting the funeral by the way, is it Sata or HH? Okay more like HH since ba tata ba Sata akaso kulupiya balichilamo. Sendamenipo bonse mukwai, muibusheko na ba mmembe besu, katwishi headline bakaletapo mailo mu Post. Ok guys good night finally!

  161. Honestly speaking bloger Sata is the man we want for Presdo. Those of you who lived in Lusaka around 1986 – 1988 will attest to how he managed LUDC (lusaka city council) as governer. And not long time ago when he was minister of health, how hospitals (i saw kitwe central) looked clean. Imwe bantu we need a man like him. He has performed and will perform. Viva mbuya, sata, abash bakwinthu. I will not eat tribalism.

  162. Bloggers like #183 FREDRICK CHILUBA CHITOLE and one #187 /georgeWbush ARE A DISGRACE AND STUPID IGNORANT AND UNINFORMED RANTING *****S WHO ARE BRINGING THE BEMBA TRIBE INTO RIDICULE , YOU CAN TELL THAT THESE THUGS OR KAPONYAS FROM PF ARE SELF CENTRED WHO THINK SO SHALLOW, LOOK AT NICK CLEGG AND DAVID CAMERON ARE WORKING NICELY HERE IN UK DESPITE BEING FROM DIFFERENT BACK GROUNDS. IF SATA AND HH WERE ALL BEMBAS BETWEEN THEM TWO SEARCH YOUR HEARTS AND BE HONEST WHO WOULD CHOOSE ON BASIS OF INTELLECT AND UP-LIGHT CHARACTER, SATA HAS A HUGE OF S CANDLES BEHIND HIM WHICH DEPICT A CLASSICAL DICTATOR, IAM BEMBA BUT I DONT WANT TO SEE THUGS LIKE SATA YOURSELVES NEAR STATE HOUSE .THIS WAS SATA’S CHANCE TO GOVERN , I BET YOU SATA WILL NEVER NEVER EVER RULE ZAMBIA I PRAY .WORK UP U TOO…

  163. HEAR SATA’ S RANTINGS ON HOT FM.He said Mr Hichilema did not show respect for him as a partner in the pact when he boasted that he was more suitable for the top post because of his younger age.
I have not toured the country denouncing HH. But he has done so. I have not gone to the press, coming from America and say ‘I’m the best because I’m young’. I wasn’t born old.”
Sata said numerically, PF was the second-largest political party in Zambia, while UPND was the third-largest.
They are the third-largest,” Sata said. “You see, when they say we are bulldozing, they want Mr Sata to say ‘yes, stop talking. Yes Mr Hakainde you are the aspiring candidate’. PF is not Michael Sata and Michael Sata is not PF.”
Asked to comment on assertions by the UPND on the Copperbelt…

  164. that they would not support the Pact if Hichilema did not stand, Sata responded: “Now you are saying choose a leader, but your colleagues are giving conditions; ‘if you don’t choose HH, we are not going to support the Pact’.

Let them continue because the more they continue, we learn more. Information is vital in everything you are doing because you have seen recently, ‘yes we welcome their pact with MMD’.”
Sata said MMD knew they were weak and thought they would get an extra province if they got the UPND
    HOT FM

  165. FROM THE ABOVE INTERVIEW YOU CAN TELL THAT SATA DOES’NT MEAN WELL AND IF U READ BETWEEN LINES YOU CAN SEE HE HAS NO RESPECT FOR HIS PARTNER, HOW CAN HE INSULT HH THAT MMD wiill be glad to get an extra province . THESE ARE TRUE COLOURS OF KING COBRA MANIFESTING. HH has NEVER GONE AROUND THE COUNTRY DE CAMPAIGNING SATA BUT THE OLD MAN HAS NOT SHOWN ANY MATURITY AND RELISHES DEMEANING HH. THANK GOD HH HAS SHOWED MATURITY DESPITE THE POST WITH ONE PATSON PUSHING HH TO SAY SOMETHING AGAINST SATA BUT HE TOLD THEM OFF THAT HE WONT WASH DIRTY LINEN IN PUBLIC. SO DEAR FRIENDS YOU CAN SEE THAT SATA IS A DANGER TO DEMOCRACY. HE IS SO PETTY THE OLD MAN IS IMMATURE BUNDA BWAKU BOSA BOSA FYE. HE HAS VERBAL DIARRHOEA. WITH SUCH AN ATTITUDE HIS CV WILL ONLY GO UP TO MINISTER WITHOUT POT-FOLIO.

  166. UPND IS NOT A PROVINCE, THEY ARE POPULAR SOUTHERN,CENTRAL,WESTERN ,N/WESTERN THEY HAVE A GOOD SHARE OF LSK CB AND EAST SO SATA IS SUBJECTIVE THAN BEING OBJECTIVE

  167. Vote for HH
He promised to give away his presidential way to the national development. 5yrs term will mean free education, free medication etc..

SATA …. Does not live on what he says. He wants to be president… he want to be vice president.. Objective??
