Dumped baby in a pit latrine in Mufurila Town

Police in Mufulira have retrieved a live baby that was dumped in a pit latrine.

Copperbelt Police Chief Martin Malama says the baby is admitted at Ronald Ross Hospital in Mufulira for medical attention.

The mother of the child has also been taken to the same hospital for medical attention.

Dr Malama said despite being out of danger, mother of the child would be charged by police accordingly for dumping the baby.
Muvi TV reports from the Copperbelt that the incident occurred in Mupena area 7 miles from the main town.

Cases of suspected unsafe abortions and dumping of fetus continue to be almost a daily occurrence in some of Lusaka’s compounds.

These incidents are attributed to a number of reasons ranging from unprotected sex among young people to promiscuity and alcohol abuse.

On Sunday, 19th September, 2010 residents of Bauleni compound were treated to a bizarre site when they discovered a fetus wrapped in a plastic and dumped in a trench.

A resident, Joyce Phiri said there is need for people to be given information on contraceptive measures to prevent unwanted pregnancies.

Another resident, Naomi Chatwe called on the local authority to close down drinking places that do not operate within stipulated time charging that these places encourage promiscuity.

  1. A financially empowered woman would not under any circumstances dump her baby. Poverty is at the heart of all this misery, yet RB is on tour every single second of his presidence.

Where and how is the US$400m helping the poorest of our citizens??

  2. Zathu, good morning
I agree with you that a financially empowered woman can never dump her baby.
US400m should not be used on such cases because everyone should take full responsibility of their actions. When they are busy satisfying their appetite, the govt is not their and then when they dump the babies, they cry for assistance from the govt.Condoms are everyone, people should use their common sense and prevent such things from happening. If they cannot take care of the child then they should use a condom or not do it at all. SHAME on the month for treating an innocent child like trash…..

What if you enticed with your sweet tongue, then used her and dumped her, leaving her feeling dejected, worthless and stupid??

If she had her own financial means, she would definitely pick up the pieces and move on

  4. It is completely irrational to blame RB for these things. A woman who is financially secure is most likely to go and have an abortion if she has an unwanted pregnancy. Conversely, other factors such as post-natal depression might push a woman to behave in such a matter. Lets not try and blame RB for everything, these kind of things happen all over the world all the time. Even after 90 days of a Sata led govt, baby dumping will still happen.

  5. Awe they should stop ukutoba if they cant handle the results of ukusefya pa ngwena.Lack of recreational facilities has led to most youths taking s.e.x as a consolation.Too bad.

  6. Zathu
You are right however, dumping innocent kids in trash should not be an excuse for all women whether financially stable or not. This is why women who do such things should be sent to jail at least for a minimum of 5 years so that they learn and not put their paints down anyhow. Men should also be held liable for producing a child that they cannot take care of therefore they too should be sent to jail for 5 years as the pleasure was shared equally when they were doing it.

  7. “…people will be lovers of themselves…”
Suffer the little children to come unto Me,and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God”.(Mark 10:13-14).

  8. It could be that the mother is positive, the baby too is positive. In which case the challenges that lie ahead for the mother are Insurmountable and too overwhelming. For a long period of time, the mother has to forgo the normal way of living. Everything has to be done in a restrained manner-s.e.x, drinking and other forms of self improvement must all be done properly because there is a baby. In such a situation and given a choice, its the new born that must suffer life in pit latrine.

  9. Most people on this blog have been brainwashed by capitalism. All you think about as a solution to any problem is money. Where there is no money, the blame is cast on the President. But honestly blaming the President on an abortion! What of the local communities where the woman lives? What have they done for her? What of her church and the Priest and all the NGOs within the area?

  10. Dr Kanganja-you r right in a way but that is too rough reasoning in as life is concerned. @ZATHU-its actually the self reliant woman who kills more feutuses than the poor girl who basically just requents the club for a dollar/shagg from drunken poor man whose family does not even have enough food to go round the month. When i was at school, i knew of a girl & boy who shagged each other like hell. They had 4 abortions at the expense of their parents struggle to educate them. You would notice that the self reliant woman has more sex than even a married woman because any man is welcome & she is not commited. The more you shagg or get shagged by more than one, you would always feel like doing with someone different & if you have the means-they will fall in like hot cakes-you know mwn & sex.

  11. @16. The fact that certain bloggers r bringing in the president over this happentance is not really unreasonable. Also, you have alluded to the fact that her community & so forth can come in! Well, in the first place, the economy of zambia is biting everone on their necks, people have lost jobs in the mines & the future looks bleak, there is only one recepient for this moral & economic crisis-the govt-because even as such things r taking place-RB is travelling every day, donor money is being misappropriated at ministry of health & corrupt hogheads r still raoming the streets free & under gaurd. If these things mentioned were under some sort of attention from the govt-i bet no one would blame them for people’s own selfish inclinations resulting in such heinious & cold blood attempts to kill

  12. Poverty is not the cause of infanticide.
Well off women have just got more sanitary ways of killing babies. Our hospitals bear witness to abortions and contraceptions that are mass muders.
From antiquity man has no answer to the problem of unwanted pregnancies. It is a matter of the heart of every individual for we are all responsible. Some line up to be artificially fertilised to fecundity and another lines up to get rid of a gestation. We could liberalise adoption laws, but the world is teeming with predatory Paedophiles! This is a paradox.

  13. Our society has lost the quality of good morals resulting in people shagging each other recklessly ending in unwanted pregnancy, sexual life has nothing to do with RB.

  14. Insala is just too much pa Zed that is why women are behaving in this horrible manner. Though the woman could be having some psycho problems that led her to do that. But whatever led her to that is really sad and must not be tolerated! Hope the people survives the horror!

  15. if there was a place that mothers can take their babies with no questions asked, we might see fewer abandoned babies. an anonymous baby drop off centre is what would work.

  16. to over come this problem, an anonymous baby drop off centre would see that fewer babies are left for dead. this center would then raise tje babies and put them up for adoption.

  17. Tapali ifyo mulelanda bonse imwe. if the economy of the country does not empower people regardless of gender they should not involve theselves in risky behaviours period!!!!!!! I only hope that the law will take its course for that foolishly act of dumping an innocent soul in the latrine. In advanced economies like Australia, people are reluctant to have children despite assurance from the govnt that it will provide some family assistance incentives becoz most of them are not prepared to raise children. Therefore, it is not even worth throwing the blame on RB becoz our govt has not provided meaningful welfare services for the less fortunate ones for so many years now.

  18. People one thing we have to rememba is that to every action we take in life there is owez an equal and opposite reaction to it,so as sweet as sex is we shud oso rememba that it has its repacations,so lets educate our women & men in Zed abt the dangers of unprotected sex & teach them on how to use contraceptives not only condoms cause for same pipo it doesnt taste sweet so they wud want it live. Its time we became open and live abt sex toks as Zambians, the GRZ oso u are to bleme improve on the economy, create jobs in the country not only 4 the educated bt oso 4 the uneducated yashani? To u women oso stoped being dat cruel babies are a blessing from God dont kill them.

  19. People let us stop envoling ourselves in Sex if we cant look after our own babez,The mother to the baby must be given a heavy punishment once descoverd.

  20. A person necessarily help to make significantly posts I might state. That is the very first time I frequented your website page and thus far? I surprised with the research you made to create this particular put up extraordinary. Magnificent process!
