Cholera breaks out in Sinazongwe

Share

Cholera has broken out in Sinazongwe district in Southern Province and one woman is reported to have died while 31 people have been admitted to Sinamalima clinic.

Both Sinazongwe acting Commissioner (DC) Sokoloku Daka and Malima ward Councillor confirmed the development to ZANIS.

Mr. Daka said the woman died last night and among the samples that were taken to the laboratory four were confirmed to have cholera.

He said Sinazongwe District Medical Officer Dr Elias Chipandwe and his team have since rushed to the area to contain the outbreak.

The Acting District Commissioner said an emergency meeting would be convened to address the situation before cases spread to Sinazeze area.

Mr. Daka however, said it was a challenge to access areas where cholera had broken out because of Sikalamba stream and Nangombe which had no bridges.

Malima ward Councillor Fisher Zimana disclosed that cases were coming from Bbune village, Sinalulungwe, and Manyonga village in Malima area.

Mr. Zimana said the dead woman hailed from Manyonga village in Malima area.

He said some people were carrying their cholera patients on their backs owing to the impassable roads, a situation he feared would increase the number of cases.

  2. cholera is a fecal oral disease. meaning that it is found in feaces then eventually finds itself in the mouth. the min of health hv very qualified environmental health technologists who carry this message in sinazongwe. what is klling the pipo there is their traditions which they have failed to let go ; such as not owning toilets in the villages. pliz sanition matters r real and shd be adhered to. other wise no one shd be blamed. soon the cholera festival in lusaka will move to full scale war especially in kanyama. its sad that its an annual festival…

  3. When we watch ZNBC TV..the President and his are VICE are busy preaching about how they have ”worked” so hard to improve our living standards and that we one of the fastest growing economies in the world yet on the ground the reality is totally different…what a Country!

  4. why aren’t our politicians talking about health care. in the cholera high risk areas why are they not providing cholera vaccinations to people. instead of financing NCZ at least finance vaccinations and save lives. so little is being done about the general health of population

  5. No 4 you cannot rush to blame people for the cholera. actually this is a failure of the health system. no practical information, no services, no access to treatment when needed
