Kitwe-Chingola road to be upgraded – Mulongoti

Share

GOVERNMENT has assured Copperbelt residents that it will this year upgrade the Kitwe-Chingola road into a dual carriageway.

Minister of Works and Supply Mike Mulongoti said on January 20 that Government will this year also rehabilitate the Chibuluma and Kalulushi-Lufwanyama roads.

“We are committed to ensuring that the road network improves in the country. In fact, all the infrastructure development projects are on course. We are going to expand the Kitwe-Chingola road into a dual carriageway; the Chibuluma road and the Kalulushi-Lufwanyama road will also be worked on this year,” Mr Mulongoti said in an interview.

Mr Mulongoti said Government is in a hurry to develop all parts of the country.

He said Government has appointed a transaction advisor to supervise road projects under the public private partnership (PPP) initiative.

Mr Mulongoti said the council of ministers made the appointment in November last year.

“The appointment of the transaction advisor that will work on the rehabilitation of road projects under the private public partnership (PPP) programme throughout the country has been done,” Mr Mulongoti said.

He said Government is committed to improving the road infrastructure in all parts of the country.

Mr Mulongoti called on Zambians to continue supporting Government in its quest to develop the country.

He called on individuals unnecessarily criticising Government to appreciate its efforts to develop the country.

Mr Mulongoti said it is unfortunate that some people have refused to appreciate the development projects Government is undertaking.

He said some opposition leaders have failed to initiate meaningful development in their constituencies and wards since they were elected as members of Parliament and councillors.

He said Government will not be detracted by critics who want to derail its development agenda.

“We are working very hard to develop this country, but it is sad that some people in the opposition have decided to politicise everything that we are doing. They must be told that as Government, we will not be detracted in taking development to our people throughout the country,” Mr Mulongoti said.

  1. Whether political or not, please do it faster than fast.
I have buried more than 3 of my best friends with great minds for mother zambia.

Make this yo last promise fguys and plse keep working and not talking.

Iam very principled but u may receive my vote over that road…God willing.

  2. #1 this is vry true. We started getting this stories years back, but now that it is an election year you have again brought it up. The fact of the matter is we removing you MMD. This road is bad especially to us who travel in it everyday when going for work. We have lost enough of our friends. DONCHI KUBEBA

  3. This is an election year – so I am very sure the Chingola road will be turned into a dual carriage way…that will be a very good thing. Many people have died and many more injured on that road. Maybe we should actually reduce the presidential term to 4 years so that more projects of substance can be implemented by these politicians who are scared to lose their positions!

  4. I’m tired of hearing this story. That road is a death-trap and has been ignored for years. That little punk is only talking about it because it’s an election year. I hope the road does get worked on for the sake of the people living in that part of the country. However the people of Chingola will never vote for those MMD clowns no matter what!

  5. Am not oposed to the up grading of the road in question, But i would think that the Lusaka – Ndola road, which has more traffic should take priority.

  6. #8 You are fight bro. Only that elections are costly. In terms of development, 3 years was going to
help us develop mother Zambia. Coz these guys were going to be on their feet thoughout the term.
With 5 years they go to sleep as soon as they are put in power. Chibuluma Road is really bad.
The other thing is they do not have engineers to plan for our Cities. God help us.

  7. Kashikishi # 10, you are very right,we will never vote for them ku chingola, kuya bebele.whether they do the road or not.Upgrading the Chingola-Kitwe rd has long been promised and is overdue.
Come to Chingola town itself, roads are pathetic especially the mine residential area.Kanshi ninshi ku chingola twalufyanya?? Could it be that there is a PF MP and GOVT is marginalizing development resources so it appears like PF has failed?

  8. oh this is great news! I’m very happy well done government. I don’t care whether its election year or not.The road needs urgent attention.

  9. Just from the statement you can tell Mulongoti is telling lies. How long does it take for the government to do a road? It took them over four years to rehabilitate Zimba Livingstone a stretch of 80km and then this fool is saying this year. Have the done the studies? Has the contractor moved on site? and I am sure it will be another Chinese contractor who will do a shoddy job like they did for Luansya. The Luanshya Masangano road started falling apart few months after it was completed.

  10. Maybe the govt should have first “lied” to the people along the Ndola -Lusaka road. It appears like every pronounciation from the govt is lies to some copperbelt bloggers. Or is it that they are annoyed that certain quarters are going to call this development and get a few votes away from their preferred candidate? Well pansaka everyone has something to say.

  11. Government is in a hurry to develop all parts of the country. The skeptics will remain aloof in the stupor of development phobia.

  12. Let’s look at facts and figures from a similar project and make our own comparisons and conclusions. LT reported yesterday that Govt has just borrowed a sum of K500bn from African Development Bank –ADB- for the rehabilitation of the 114.7 kilometers of the Great East Road from Nyimba to Sinda. (Nacala Corridor Road project). This worksout to be about 4.4bn per km. Kitwe – Chingola is 51km, so this project would require about K222bn. And since its a dual carriage, it will be almost double that to K444bn. Question:- Where will this money come from?

  13. how long has it taken government to work on the solwezi – chavuma road? even now they have not done half of the project, but every time they are elections they tell the people of nothwestern to vote for them so that they can complete the Road, Ama rubbish yeka yeka. kitwe is not northwestern still even if you mend the road we wont vote for you , ni dont kubeba. ka mulongoti nali kapata ka shit.

  14. Mulongoti and his MMD are taking us for fools.

How many years indeed has this been said, and at what time of the year?

In any case, this does not deliver food onto the tables of the Zambian who never drives and will never drive on the dual carriageway.

If you are working, you don’t have to announce to the people, you just get on with it, and people will notice that work is in progress.

  15. dont kid us mulongoti there have been so many lives lost on that road inluding two of my nephews. please tell us the source of funding for this project? was it inluded in this year’s budget? who will be the cintractors?
for once please be serious in life mike

  16. Many countries have motor ways but we are still talking about dual carriage ways in 2011. Dual carriage ways are national roads in many countries for short distances like 10 to 20 kilometres stretches, anything more than that and is a busy road like ones mentioned here need motor ways. We also need dual railway lines too. Build motor ways and dual carriages, put toll gates there for road users to pay that is how you create wealth, jobs etc with proper responsibility and accountability properly working in a good system. You will create jobs for sign writers for roads, jobs for road maintenance, jobs for road markers with white and yellow lines, jobs for speeding cameras managed by traffic corps. Developed countries do that, I don’t know why we don’t. This is not rocket science, let’s do…

  17. The Kabwe-Lusaka stretch of the Great North Road needs upgrading to dual carriage, many lives have been lost on this stretch of road, overtaking trucks on this road is such a hussle.

  18. Friends, some of you I do not know what you want to hear. When government makes a grade you get annoyed. Even if you have made up your minds on who to vote for, learn to congratulate good and criticiz bad. Do not behave like witches to avoid being so in old age. Keep smiling at signs of development, Congratulation Mike keep it up.

My understanding is that most people here are complaining that they (we) are tired of hearing the same old promise of upgrading roads etc EVERY ELECTION YEAR! Its so irritating. Also, where they cant promise anymore they now make what i call “disposable roads” …roads that will last only up to a week after polling day. The idea is welcome but another empty promise is NOT!!! We’re tired of empty, recycled promises!
I used to travel daily on that road, survived a couple of accidents and would really like it to be upgraded. What I really dont want is to hear another promise.. for a change it would be nice to hear something like “we have done thirteen kilometers of the new road…”
This is why we’re done with the MMD as we will with any other non-performing…
