Information has emerged indicating that a private meeting was held early this month at which some prominent people attempted to intervene and resolve the leadership crisis in the Patriotic Front-UPND pact.
The meeting held on February 7th at LUSAKA’s Acardes Protea Hotel was attended by Post Newspaper Managing Editor Amos Malupenga, Lawyer Mutembo Nchito and Former Task Force on Corruption Executive Chairman, Mark Chona.
UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and his party’s Chairperson for International Relations, Professor Clive Chirwa also attended the meeting which started around 17:00 hours and ended after 22:00 hours.
According to insiders, Professor Chirwa was used to convene the meeting with a view to resolve the leadership crisis in the UPND/PF Pact.
The meeting was also to apportion parliamentary seats and cabinet positions in the shadow PF-UPND government.
But when contacted over the matter, Mr. Hichilema said the meeting was called to resolve the alleged non press coverage of his party by the Post Newspaper.
Mr. Hichilema however, admitted that attempts were made to discuss the PF UPND Pact leadership.
He said he objected to discussing the Pact affairs because the PF was NOT represented at the meeting.
Mr. Hichilema said although some people felt his stance was unreasonable, he refused to be lectured on political issues of the Pact.
He wondered why details of this particular meeting had been leaked when he has been holding many meetings over the PACT with people from all walks of life.
Mr. Hichilema maintained that there will be no sharing of positions before UPND and PF agrees on a national program for the people of ZAMBIA.
Efforts to get a comment from Mr. Nchito failed as his phone went unanswered while Post Managing Editor Amos Malupenga asked to be called after sometime because he was in a meeting.
Mr. Malupenga earlier referred the queries to the sources of the information about the meeting.

Finding common ground is always an important asset in our society so as to avoid potential problems.

I have just been watching ZNBC evening news which I watch religiously every day. Tonight it featured a newly built Moomba High School complete with Hon Dora Siliya giving a motivational talk to a very receptive and appreciative pupil audience. Well done for educating some folks on this blog. The Times of Zambia & Daily Mail are news forums that educate the nation on aspects of: Economics, Social, Environment, Technology developments etc….
Unlike the Post that can see some inroads coming into the country, they still blank it because they do not believe giving credit were its due. No Government can be perfect. I was a supporter of UPND until HH took over when Mazoka died. What annoyed me is how he hated all those who worked with Mazoka. Its been very clear from the begining that upnd wants hh to be the pact president, even though is not popular as sata.They have said in the past that unless hh is pact president, they will support mmd. What they have not told us , is in the event that upnd pulls out to support mmd. Is hh going to stand as president in the mmd/upnd pact? If not so the man (hh) is most likely to spell doom on his political career. Good things come to those who wait. Looking at the age difference hh has alot of time on his side to shape his political career if only he can be patient. Professor Clive Chirwa is overrated. This is a Professor whose arithmetic on the PF-UPND pact makes stupid sense sensible. Honestly, this is a terrible example of things that are so wrong that it is not even clear where to start explaining profound idiocy of the idea. 40% UPND plus Vice Presidency and 60% PF plus Presidency. Now suppose PF wins only 50% of the 60% that would translate into 30% and other 30% go to smaller opposition parties and MMD and now if UPND wins all its seats so we have 40% of 40% or 100% win for UPND and yet PF only won 30% of the 60% seats but because Sata PF has been given the Presidency despite having less seats Sata can claim according to the agreement he was rightly so elected as Pact President when infect he would be getting to State House on a UPND tickit.
