Expelled former ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy MMD chairman for elections Mike Mulongoti has challenged Republican President Rupiah Banda to prove that he is legally ruling the country.
Mr. Mulongoti has said that  President Banda should clear the air on whether he is qualified to rule the country or not.
Yesterday, MMD founder member and former Zambian ambassador to Malawi and Botswana Milton Phiri charged that President Rupiah Banda has been leading the country illegally.
Mr. Phiri said President Banda breached the Republican constitution by contesting the 2008 elections when he was not eligible.
Mr. Mulongoti has however distanced himself that he is behind the allegations brought forward by the former ambassador.
He wonders why his name keeps coming up each time certain allegations are made.
He says he is not a guardian to Mr. Phiri, and has no business in the allegations that were made by the former Zambian envoy.
Mr. Mulongoti adds that President Rupiah Banda should take a leaf from US president Barrack Obama who produced his birth certificate following questions on whether he was born in the United States or not.
Mr. Mulongoti said this in an interview with QFM this Morning.

If I were Rupiah Banda at his advanced age and having been in public service for ages, I would just step down, go back to the ‘farm’ in Chipata and lead a quiet, stress free life. These allegations and revelations are too much for an old man to handle and it seems there will be more to come.

Mulongoti and Phiri ought to know that the onus is on them to prove that RB is ineligible to rule. This is a very risky and some would say st.upid political strategy on the part of Mulongoti. If RB has to prove that he is Zambian, then the same will be asked of MCS, and if the rumours of the snake’s father being Tanzanian are true, then what next? How will this play out regarding Panji, whose father was made stateless by the same person he is supporting, isn’t Mulongoti simply opening up old wounds? There is no need for people to become emotional over the issue. RB is not Zambia or Zambia is not RB where, by all means he should stand under MMD. Let him be investigated on the basis of available evidence. If indeed he is not elligible it is not too late, drop him and let MMD pick another candidate we move forward. Born just pre independence in N Rhodesia places me in an anomalous position as no birth certificates are being issues to those pre 1973, effectively this could dis-enfranchise vast swathes of people who were legitely Zambian in 1991 simply because they were not in possession of a Birth certificate, is that not a distinct possibility?:-?

Having an educational qualification does not automatically translate into one being intelligence. I am very sure that Sondashi, Chitala, Ka mulongoti are good examples of dull but educated chaps.
